Webutil_file_transfer needed btw AS and DB
As I posted in May 04, the header of the webutil_file_transfer package spec says:

* 2) Add functionality to Upload / Download from App Server Filesystem to / from the Database
This would be VERY useful in cutting out redundant slow transfers. I want to populate a db blob with contents derived from a template doc and db items, and the only way I've found is to:
a) copy the template on AS to a temp file on AS;
b) edit the temp file using OLE2
c) download the edited file, as_to_client
d) upload it, client_to_db
I'd like to replace c) and d) with a single call of "AS_to_DB".
Is Oracle going to provide "AS_to_DB" and "DB_to_AS"? If not, could anyone suggest how we might do it for ourselves?

webutil equivelant would involve you loading to the
client and then you could do client to d/b - but of
course that would be a long way around the houses!!!

This is the long way round the houses for which 'AS_toDB' would be the shortcut.
I do agree it would be very useful to have and you
could certainly use some of the webutil features to
extend it yourself.Since it would be very useful, I don't see why Oracle doesn't provide it. The least-effort max-gain route would be for the original author to do the development, since a) he knows what the original code is doing, and the new functions would be b) proof against future re-releases and c) available to all.
Since this isn't going to happen, it's guidance on how to do it myself that I'm looking for.

I feel as though I am forced into repairing the iphone before I can backup the information (photos, videos, contacts). If the apple ID on the device is the same as the one on my iMac I do not understand why I have to unlock the iphone by typing in the 4 digit passcode. This is a little ******** as having the screen break seems to be the usual prpblem with the iphone, I want to be able to backup my files when I feel the obvious need to do so (eg. when it breaks)! I also believe I shouldn't have to use other apps for backing it up (which I obviously have to pay for).. I am rather angry with this issue.Okay folkes, you were right and I was wrong.. I admit it. But I was pretty mad though when I tryed to backup the last few contacts I needed for work and couldn't do so. Worst things are when something gets broken (by me or whatever) when there is an emergency. I needed the contacts off of that phone real fast and couldn't do it, thats what got me real mad. And btw I am a Russian living in Moscow and instead of having an official Apple store we have shopes called ReStore who resell apple devices with ridiculous prices, same thing with the repairs. It is cheaper to sometimes buy a new iphone then repair an old one.. So there.. but I repaired it and now happy again with my apple device.. Also I know the itunes and icloud are free and I do back it up, this time however I couldn't use them and had to try the iphone extractor app, which is not free. There.. Hardware needed for wifi and stay hard wired to Mac
I just got an IMAC and I want to set-up my wireless network. My kids have Ipod Touches and I want to stream music over the stereo instead of them plugging directly into it. The stereo is up stairs and the Mac is down stairs next to the modem. I still want to stay hard wired into the Mac though. To do this do I need Airport Extreme and Airport Express or just get wireless router and Airport express?

Sorry but there is no way to wirelessly stream music from an iPod touch to the stereo.
The AirPort Express (AX) can accept music streaming from iTunes and send it out to a stereo via its sound output port. However iTunes must be running on a computer.
You could use any 802.11b/g compatible wireless router with 2 or more Ethernet ports connected to the modem. Your iMac would connect via Ethernet to that router. Then place an AX next to the stereo and configure it to join the wireless network provided by the wireless router.
This will give you the ability to stream music from iTunes running on your iMac to the stereo.
BTW, there is an iPod touch application which allows you to remotely control the iTunes running on your Mac so that you could change the music from the iPod touch. -
I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.
Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to 'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)

I have an iPod Touch version iOS 4.2.1, 8 G capacity, and whenever iTunes tries to sync my iPod, I get an error message saying "Mobile Backup has encountered a problem and needs to close", and the sync fails. I have tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes, and the same thing happens. What can I do to fix this problem?

I keep receiving this error every time I open LR, "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and the app won't open. It said LR would try and fix this error next time I opened it but the error remains. I tried uninstalled and installing the app and the error remains. I have windows 8. Can anyone please help???
Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. The normal location is Pictures\Lightroom. Locate a folder with the extension .lrdata and delete that folder. Then you should be able to start Lightroom again, and Lightroom will begin building and new previews folder. Do not delete anything else.

Open the folder containing your catalog. In that folder you will find another folder with the extension .lrdata, and you need to delete that folder. After you do that, Lightroom should start normally and will create a new preview cache.

Help needed with consolidating and moving itunes folder.
I have imported songs into itunes using with the Copy Files To iTunes Folder When Adding To The Library box unchecked and moved the location of my music folder to an external hard drive. I already had a folder full of music files on this hard drive so I now have 2 folders with music files, the iTunes folder with music recently imported from cd's and the old folder. The library points to references to both of these folders but not ALL of the files in the old folder as I don't need them in iTunes.
I now want to be able to listen to my iTunes library when not connected to the external drive. How do I do this? If I reset the location of my iTunes folder back to the macbook do I then need to consolidate, and if I do will only the files with reference pointers go into this folder? Need to backup and remove photo library from my iphone. This library was previously backup on a hard drive that crashed. So these photos are only in the photo library and not in the camera roll. If I do a full backup, it only takes the camera roll.
So this is a 2 part question:
1) how to I backup the Photo Library to my new hard drive (as the last one was unrecoverable but previously backed up)
2) how do I remove the Photo Library form my phone (preferably after backup in item 1)
Thanks, JanisSince it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer. As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you. I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.

Thanks for that clarification. So, now it appears that the ultimate purpose of a Smart Mailbox is to point to all emails that meet the criteria in a single place, so if they are spread among several mailboxes, you will be able to see them all together. Here is an article from Apple that describes it:
A Smart Mailbox displays in one location messages that are stored in other mailboxes, so you don’t have to move messages between mailboxes. The messages displayed by a Smart Mailbox are based on criteria you define, and are automatically updated to include new messages that match your criteria. For example, you might create a Smart Mailbox that displays all messages found in all mailboxes from a specific sender.
If you change a message in a Smart Mailbox, such as marking the message as read or unread, or moving or deleting the message, the change is reflected in the mailbox where the message is actually stored.
So, adam, I would think that, if you had mail going to a lot of different places, and wanted to be able to see a particular set of those in a single place, you would use a smart mailbox. Maybe use the rules to direct your mail to different places to start with, but a smart mailbox to bring a set of common ones all together into a single smart mailbox?
Maybe you have Rules move your Amazon mail to an Amazon folder and your Apple mail to an Apple folder, but then you have a Smart Mailbox that contains any mail that has the word "Receipt" in the Subject line?

The church's iMac was registered by an employee that is no longer at the church. We would like to update the OS to Lion as well as some of the software. Since we do not know the password, is there a way to reset it it? Or do we need to wipe and reinstall the OS, register and then update? If so, how hard is it to reboot?
OK, thanks for that. Look on the original OS X install disc and see if that say Leopard 10.5.x or Snow Leopard 10.6.x. You advised in the last post the system is running 10.6.4, which is Snow Leopard. The most up-to-date version of Snow Leopard is 10.6.8, once we get your password changed we can work on getting it up-to-date.
So to change the administrators password you will do the following:
Insert the Snow Leopard Install Disc into the SuperDrive and restart the computer , when you hear the Startup Tone hold down the Option key.
Choose the SL Install Disc
Choose the language
Select the Utilities Menu - Select Password Reset
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Select the user name of your original administrator account. (you can change this later!)
Enter the new Password (remember to re-enter in the second box)
Quit the app by hitting the Command - Q keys
Quit the Installer (Command - Q again)
Restart
