Weird INDICATOR c))))

Title says it all. I looked into the list of indicators and I could not find what this c))) means. Its like a wifi signal turned sideways with the band pointing right and somewhat flashing all the time. Anyone know what this is? =/

It means your phone is actively searching for wifi connections. Turn the search off under settings-connectivity-wlan.

the battery you bought is not an original nokia product.
while it may have said OEM (ORIGINAL equipment manufacture), it does not mean "original" by/for nokia.
i have purchased 4 of those back in december and all are still working.  (i go through 2-4 batteries/day)   those behave the same way.
i did find a seller that i just recently bought 4 new batteries from, and they are correct and show the appropriate battery ratings.  send me a pm and i will reply with the link as it will get deleted if i post it here.

  • Weird battery indicator

Hi , I've recently noticed that the battery percentage indicator on my iPhone 4 is not accurate/spoilt . The phone switches off when the battery percentage indicates 22% . It's like the 22% is "2%" on a normal iphone , you get what i mean ? When i plug in to charge , the phone switches on again and shows a 22% charging . I tried restoring my phone but it wont work . I also tried resetting by pressing home and lock button but it still won't work . I can't drain it to 0% because the meter won't go down to zero before the phone switches off , so i cant do a full recahrge to recalibrate my phone battery . Has anyone else faced this issue ? Any suggestions as to what I can do to sort it ?
    Thankyou , Shivonne .

Mine has done this for a long time. First time happened after about 2 months of owning the phone, took it to the genius bar 3 times and then finally they couldn't figure it out and replaced the phone. 2 months after that, the problem started again with the new phone and I went to genius bar again 3 times and they said they don't know what it is. I have noticed that the longer you let it happens, the more battery is left before it dies. Starts at 22%, then 33%, then 44% all the way up to 66% was my experience. After it shut down I let it be off for about 1-2 hours to let it completely die, then I charged it to 100% and did a hard reset. It still does it, in fact it did it today, but about once per month I do this and it seems to help. Genius bar is no help, along with all the suggestions of it being a hardware issue.

A few weeks ago my on screen charging indicator started acting funny.  Normally it takes my macbook around 2 hours to charge fully.  However, sometimes the indicator says anywhere upwards of 4 hours.  Furthermore, sometimes the indicator keeps switching back from the charging symbol to not charging.  Why is this happening?  Here is my power info:

    Try Troubleshooting the MagSafe adapter
Thanks for that link.  It did provide some diagnostic tools to see if the adapter is the culprit.  I don't believe mine is.  My situation, MacBook Pro 8,2 - early 2011, 2.3 GHz i7.  I'm experiencing, while on the adapter, after the battery charges to 100% a slow drop (while connected to the power adapter) to 98%, 97%, etc.  Unplugging the adapter for a bit will again bring it back up to 100% but it again starts to drop.  I don't think it's the battery - have good on battery performance (in bare bones boot - a special user with no StartUp items) I can get 5-7 hours.  I suspect the power adapter - one glaring issue: I have a CAT who thought it cute to chew on the cable but I couldn't tell if it was superficial or had actually damaged the wires inside past the protective sheath.  I suspect this could be the issue and have ordered a new adapter.  My wife suggested coating the cable with lemon juice to make it less tempting for the cat to bite on.  This isn't the first cable this cat (never caught "red handed") has chose to chew on.  My Jawbone charge cable was completely severed.  I took measures to make the cables less accessible but the damage had already been done to the Mag Safe Power Adapter.  As I said, my monthly "battery exercise" fully charges the battery - it is this mysterious battery percentage drop that has me wondering.  I read somewhere that some are blaming Mountain Lion, I'm not so quick to do so until I get the new adapter.
This post may have been better off in a new topic, but since we're talking about the Mag Safe Power Adapter I thought it would be okay here, especially since the link to the KB article gave me ideas on what to look for.  The pins in the cable were all up, I presume the middle pin is different and will look different as to its height compared to the two outboard/inboard pins, yes?  There was no issue with the laptop end of the connector.  I did not switch out the "duck head" with the long cord though.  With the cable damage issue I thought I'd wait and see.  Now that I think of it I could have borrowed my wife's adapter - same MBP, almost, but should both have the 85w adapter.  We'll see...

  • FileVault 2 bootup login gets weird after crash

I have had FileVault 2 encryption enabled on my laptop for almost a year. It's worked well and I've never had trouble... until yesterday.
My computer froze while I was saving something in Photoshop and had various other apps open. Nothing unusual. This happens once in awhile so I wasn't troubled by it. I have a TechTool Pro (TTP) emergency boot partition installed, so I booted off of that and ran Disk Utility and TTP to check the encrypted disk. Of course, I had to enter the disk's password just to mount it on the desktop.  Disk Utility said the disk was fine other than a few permission issues. I rebuilt the volume directory in TTP, as I usually do after a crash just for precaution, and it didn't report any negative or unusual issues.  Then I restarted back to my main partition.
Instead of the usual encryption login screen appearing, I got this:
I added a white box over the login name that was under the icon; it was my username printed there.
This looks like a weird combination login screen of the encryption login and the usual non-encryption login. But I couldn't do anything. I could move the mouse around, but I couldn't click on anything. There was nowhere to type a password. Finally I tried typing the password anyway, and the screen changed to this:
Again, I've whiteboxed the username and now a snippet of other text: my password hint. But you can see around the password hint are rows and rows of colored noise.  It didn't change at all -- e.g. it was not video noise -- though if I clicked or pressed a key, it would go away, and then come back with another keypress.  This was really confusing.  I had just accessed this disk a few minutes earlier!  And I'd checked it by booting via another partition, with no problems.
On another computer, I googled possible issues and looked through the Apple support resources. I didn't see any situations quite like this, but I did get the idea to check the encryption.  I booted the troubled laptop into Recovery Mode (command-R) and turned off encryption via Disk Utility.  After that, the computer booted directly to the usual non-encryption login screen without problems, and worked fine.  It took about 3 hours for the system to finish decrypting itself (per the Security preference status) but there were no problems.
After it decrypted, I ran all my disk utilities again (no problems found!) and tried enabling FileVault 2 again. When you enable it, you have to restart. I did that, and... it gave me the same login weirdness described above. EXACTLY the same. So I booted back into recovery mode and disabled encryption again, and everything is working fine (other than not being encrypted as I want).
Does anyone have suggestions for what is going wrong with FileVault 2?  Is there a config or preference file somewhere that I can delete or edit?  A flag that needs to be set via command line?  A disk driver that can be reinstalled without wiping the disk?  I do not relish the idea of reformatting the drive and restoring it via Time Machine backups, though I would consider it as a last resort.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Update:
On a hunch that the problem was somehow with a configuration related to the login screen, I went into the Users & Groups preferences, under Login Options, and turned off everything.  I set the login window display to "Name and password" instead of "List of users". Then I went back to the FileVault preferences and turned it back on. I followed the steps and restarted the computer.
It rebooted and spun on a grey screen for awhile.
Then it rebooted again, right back to the non-encrypted login.
I logged in and checked the FileVault preferences. It indicated that encryption was off, even though I had just turned it on.  Odd.  So I turned it on again, restarted, etc.  THIS TIME, it booted correctly to the encryption login, with none of the weirdness of before, and FileVault's preferences indicated that it is in the process of encrypting.
I'll keep an eye on this for a day or two. If it seems resolved, I'll mark this resolved.

  • Weird bug with desynced nodes - including demo and screencast

This is a follow-up to Desync of Elements and logic - how to debug?
I started a new thread because I will provide better information on this.
So we've made our graph editor working with JavaFX. One of our common demos for different products is a organizational chart demo. This is a tree-like graph with employees as nodes to depict the hierarchical structure of companies.
You can try this demo here (jre7u6 with JavaFX 2.2 b17 required):
    http://www.yworks.com/products/yfilesfx/OrgChartDemo/OrgChartDemo.jnlp
We have also made a screencast which can be viewed here that shows the usage and most importantly the problem we are facing with JavaFX here:
    http://www.screenr.com/uEF8
The startup is quite slow, it takes a few seconds for the graph to load. This is because the visual representation of the nodes is described within (nested) fxml files and each of those files is loaded in a not so effective way (because it is at the moment not possible in JavaFX to define a custom BeanAdapter in the FXMLLoader that does proper caching). After those files are loaded, there are still some ClassNotFoundExceptions thrown in the background by some part of the JavaFX framework I did not identify, yet. After a few seconds the performance speeds up significantly.
What you can do in this demo is described on the right. Basically you can zoom in/out, fit view, center a certain employee and interact with them.
Interaction means you can collapse and enlarge certain parts of the graph. For example, you can hide all subordinates of an employee and show them again.
The part of "showing them again" is done with an animation effect that is implemented in our framework, not in JavaFX.
When you hover an employee, a fading translation is played as a hover effect and some buttons appear. This part is important so i wanted to highlighted.
The hover effect is triggered by a onMouseEntered and onMouseExited event.
Also you can focus a certain employee by clicking on them. When clicked, the color changes from blue to orange. This is done by our internal logic, since the clickable things on the screen are not the JavaFX rectangles and such but rather a logical representation of a node with a position on the screen and a with and height.
So this is where things go wrong and what is really crucial for our application:
When you collapse/enlarge nodes (employees) a bug appears quite frequently that causes the internal representation and the actual appearence of JavaFX elements on the screen to be out of sync. Most notably the hover effect doesn't work anymore: The node is visually present (as you can see it) and the values of the nodes in the scenegraph match as well, but those nodes just are not present any more for any events. They do not receive mouse entered/exited events, hover-events and pressed-events and so on. You can still click on the node and focus it, but this is done in our framework (indicating that our logic works).
The connection of the logic and the javafx controller is done via databinding. The controller listens to changes in the corresponding model item and updates itself accordingly - you can see it when clicking on a node, the selection state of the model item changes and the controller updates the style of the javafx node.
The other effects however, like the hover-effect, are implemented on databinding on properties of the JavaFX node class: hoverProperty, onMouseEntered onMouseExited and so on.
Once a node is in this state, weird stuff is happening. For example, a node that is in this state seems to have normal values when viewed in ScenicView. However, when changing some values, for example translateX / Y, the node just disappears. (see also: http://www.screenr.com/lYF8 where i recorded that (a bit later in the video))
For an example of this have a look at the link to the screencast above. We showed how to reproduce the bug there.
We noticed that without any animation played this does not happen. So it seems to be caused by the animation. This is itself quite surprising, because we used the same animation process with other javaFX applications but never experienced this bug.
What happens is that our Animator sets the layoutX and layoutY values of a node that is being animated repeatedly and in rapid succession over a period of time.
The only thing we can think of that might cause this problem is that JavaFX somehow is not able to process a large amount of such update-calls and throws some exception internally and just dies.
Because of this we strongly hope that somebody can point us to were we have to look or how to even debug this problem.
    * edit: added second screencast for ScenicView

I use the swing version embedded in Idea and the diagrams are really nice => everytime I make a printout I get asked "what tool did you use to generate that diagram?".:D thank you very much.
Only real advice I can offer is something you almost certainly know =>
JavaFX is a singlethreaded UI framework.
Ensure that anything you do which could read/write from nodes in an active scenegraph be done on the JavaFX application thread.I just double checked this and unless Platform.isFxApplicationThread() returns a wrong value, the only interaction with JavaFX nodes is done in the JavaFX application thread.
I think your app issues will prove very hard to resolve through this forum. Nicolas Lorain is the javafx product manager, so you could try contacting him directly for support. There is also some kind of JavaFX partner program which may be able to offer support as well, Nicolas should also have details on that.
Good luck with your app.I just searched for the JavaFX partner program, and couldn't find anything ongoing. The only advanced support I could find is the Oracle Premier Support, which at this point isn't suitable for us. I also couldn't find any contact information for Nicolas Lorain (he has a blog and twitter but I cannot find his email). So if you could point me to somewhere, I'd be very glad.

  • Weird behavior in Classic or not?

It has been a long time since I've needed to use Classic (on 10.4.something)  Today I needed to do something that could only be done in classic.  I thought I saw some weird behavior so I tried a couple of other classic apps.    All started Classic just fine, brought up their document window and menu bar.  But there was no classic desktop under the app's window and while the menu bar showed "finder" as an open application that could be switched to (the right-most menu item) but when I switched to it I got the OS X finder, not a OS 9 one.   Occasionally I can get what looks like a Finder menu bar, but that's on it are the Apple and Help and the app switcher.
Recently I've been playing with Sheepshaver on a Snow Leopard system, which brings up an honest-to-goodness OS 9 desktop.
Now, I am misremembering how Classic works (in effect, no desktop and no finder) or is something wrong.  I checked all three of my systems running Tiger and they have the same behavior.   (A G4 -- that will still boot into OS 9, a powerbook G4, and a mac-mini.)

OK, I found an article on rebuilding the desktop and it indicated that while there is a file for the OS9 desktop, in the classic environment it is invisible and can only be found through an alias that is created on the OS X desktop.  I suspect I've deleted that alias since I didn't have any particular need for it.   The article tells you how to re-create the alias from the terminal.  indeed there is a folder there and it is empty.  No particular use for it -- if you select Desktop from an OS 9 app you get the OS X desktop.   I can also see why there's no real OS 9 finder -- anything you could have done from it you can do from the OS X finder -- except the "Apple Menu" and that's why that's under the classic icon on the right half of an OS X menu bar.  There still is a "rebuild desktop" in the Classic prefs -- I assume that's so you get the right doc/app association in the classic environment, since I don't think OS X understands the classic creator/type info.
So sounds very much like I'm misremembering!

  • MacBook Pro Hard drive is making weird noises and slow

its important that you understand what has led to these issues. I first was witing an essay on my MacBook. Whole thing dies, screen freezes and entire thing crashes. i have no choice but to force it off by holding the power button... Then the fun begins. I log in and it gives me a circle with a slash basically telling me no you can't use your computer.. Ok.... Let me just get apple support on chat... after 3 painful hours, they even had no idea what was happening... I erased my hard drive after 4 repairs and verifies.. looked fine sure... Redownload os x 10.10 bam, the issues begin, first you hear a weird high pitched noise that varies from just heard by me to my entire household... Lovely Sure makes doing college work harder in the morning as my roommate can hear it and he's under 40 blankets. Next the slowness, niw when I mean slow I mean every 5 seconds I get the pinwheel because it can't multitask correctly. I mean wow I can't even go to the apple in the top corner without it attempting to "load" the menu. even just on pages (which was a nightmare to download I'll get to that soon) Itll give me the pinwheel after a few words... App Store, broken. I tried to redownload pages iMovie etc. 40 clicks for each because they each showed an error occur.. Some right when I click some when it was downloaded... 1.99 GB and then it tells me it can't install... Then, it's a nightmare to log in because start up take 5 to 30 minutes depending on how ever much this machine wants to infuriate me. It's only 7 months old, there is no excuse for this, and I'm very disappointed, now before I take me and this machine to geek squad located in Best Buy can anyone locate with any knowledge why this thing is behaving so disturbinG. Please excuse the horrible spelling, I had to  do this on my iphone and download google chrome because Safari doesn't support apple community When asking questions.

Your storage device is probably faulty.  It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.

  • Resize indicator doesn't show in OpenGL app

    Hi, all.
I'm adapting clutter user interface library for mac os x and I met a problem - the system is rendering opengl content inside the whole main window and maybe because of this the resize indicator is not showing. We have [self->window setShowsResizeIndicator:is_resizable] call in this library to enable the indicator. We can resize the window by dragging the part of window where resize indicator should be, but it's not showing. How can I solve this problem

really weird, I had to archive my first folio, for the second one to appear
Or maybe it was due to a shared file that was in my folio producer ?
Any way, now it appear properly inmy dev ipa

  • Weird problems with GarageBand

    Hi all,
First post and relatively new to Mac, so sorry if any of these comes across as newb-ish. I recently recorded some projects in GarageBand consisting of all live instruments. Two guitar tracks, two drum tracks, two vocal tracks and a bass track. All was fine with the project and I exported it to iTunes without fail. When opening the project a day or so ago, I noticed that the volume was swelling up and down and there was some weird phase-y sounding thing going on. I disabled all effects on all tracks but the problem still persisted.
So, I checked some other projects that I had recently recorded and they were all doing the same thing. However, if I record a brand new project...it's absolutely fine. It's literally as if one day, all of my projects were fine and the next day, they weren't. I know this is very strange but I have checked the master track, disabled all effects, no automation...I'm stumped.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

I'm wondering, when you listen back to the song the next day, are any audio tracks record enabled? Is it that you're inadvertently creating a feedback loop with an unintended record-enabled track? When you're listening back the next day, make sure that no track has the little red dot lit up (indicating that it's record enabled, and potentially feeding audio back into the system).
If that's not it, but along those lines, is it possible that when you're recording additional real audio tracks, you're also re-recording previously recorded tracks? Are your speakers on and getting picked up by the mic? Are your headphones "bleeding?"
Finally, for strange problems, you could always try trashing both GB preference files. that's probably not it, but sometimes trashing them helps solve mysterious problems.

  • Image Display got rotten (really: the Indicator, not the Image!)

I'd like to hear comments on the following VI, containing just a single Image Display Indicator, which, for some reason got corrupted during porting across LV versions and resizing. By divide and conquer I found that it was the origin of pretty odd problems that I was observing in a complex VI: absence of front panel updates, pull down menues not displayed, actions needing a double press of buttons, and so on.
The VI is saved from LV2012 windows, also attached as saved for 8.5. Just opening it, on 2 installation of Labview, I turn labview into something responding oddily. (try to pull down a menu, e.g.). Linux LV seems not to suffer from it, maybe because it places a nonfunctional FP placeholder for this control, without trying to cope with its nonfunctionality.
The question is perhaps, why LV doesn't detect the problem and behaves so weirdly with it -- bug?

Yes, I was able to see this trouble as well. Checked in different versions (2010 and 2012 x86/x64). But was unable to re-create this VI from scratch. It seems to be that Vision Control was broken in customization attempt where cluster with buttons was rearranged from vertical to horizontal position (may be in combination with saving for previous LabVIEW version).
Time to time I do the same (for example save VI with vision controls from v. 8.6 to 7.1) and I've got lot of situations when "downgraded" VI cannot be opened or caused just crash, or broken. Something is wrong.
Quick and dirty analysis of the given "BadImage.vi" shows that the problem with refreshing is present. LabVIEW tries to refresh this control continuously.
In Process Explorer we can see one thread with 100% CPU load (overall 20-25 percent, because I have 4 CPUs):
In Call Stack we may see DrawImageControl function which is called from niviswnd.dll.
Well, load this stuff into debugger, set breakpoint and see - this function called continuously:
called somewhere from SetPIClusterPartSize from LabVIEW.
I don't want to go deeper into call chain analysis (anyway makes no sense without source), but short walking in debugger shows that messages continuously fired:
    Check it with Spy:
There are thousands WM_PAINT messages which continuously sent to the Window with this weird control. Looks like attempts for update, but due some internals errors this called again and again.
The messages queue is full with WM_PAINT - therefore LabVIEW is "unresponsive" - context menus cannot be shown, dialogs cannot be closed, slow reaction, etc.
Sorry for slightly off-topic above, but may be this will be helpful for NI's engineers for further investigation.
    Andrey.

  • Strange battery indicator problem....

I'm having a very weird problem with my iPod, any help would be greatly appreciated!
I recieved an iPod Video 80gig as a replacement under the Best Buy replacement plan. At first I was very happy, as I had turned in a 40gig photo...so it was a nice upgrade.
But I soon realized something was wrong. The iPod simply wouldn't charge beyond a certain point, about 3/4 up the indicator. I would have it charge for days, on both a USB and AC adaptor charger, and it would never complete charging. From there, the battery began to hold no charge.
Figuring it was just a bad battery, I paid to have it replaced. I was sure this would fix the problem, but it seems it hasn't. Once again, it won't charge beyond about 3/4 of the bar, no matter how long it charges. It will play fine, but the battery seems to drain at a progressed rate...not as bad as before I had the battery replaced, but still quicker than it should.
Strange this is, the place I sent it to, to replace the battery, did a test to make sure nothing else major was wrong with it. But nothing turned up.
What the heck is going on with my iPod? Is it actually fully charging and just not showing it? But still, something seems wrong. Maybe I just got a bad iPod back. I plan on returning it to BestBuy for yet another, but I would love to hear anybodies theory on this or if anybody else has had the same problem.
    Thanks in advance!
    iPod Photo 80gig   Windows ME

dk07, glad to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I hope you can get it figured out as well. It is very frustrating.
Jeff, I appreciate the links, but I've been over those first two quite a few times, with no success. The last one is a bit more interesting though.
I guess what I mean to ask is; Is it possible that my iPod is actually charging all the way, even if I never get a "plug" icon and the bar never goes above 3/4 on the battery indicator, no matter how long I charge it? Can the battery indicator be 'that' off? I have yet to run into a help topic or tutorial that addresses specifically an iPod (with a brand new battery) never switching to the plug icon or never going beyond a 3/4 bar. I am willing to accept that the battery indicator may be inaccurate as to the actual charge, but the specific issues seem not to be as common as the general one; and that is what bugs me.

  • Help needed - weird behavior on 8300

    Hi,
I have the Curve for about a month. Lately (for 3 days), the phone's acting weird. It lets me make calls and all of a sudden, it turns itself off. Initially, I thought that the phone may not have enough charge; but today it happened again about 4 times - and I had charged it overnight! I checked the battery indicator and it shows that the phone is charged fully.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?
Thx in advance for any pointers.
    Regards. -Sam-

I know some issues of 8100 and 8700g with similar problem. But no resolution received so those handsets and my carrier provided replacement to customers for those handsets.

  • Active Link Indicator in TOC

Here is an interesting problem that perhaps someone else has
    seen and figured out.
When I launch my published WebHelp and select a link in the
table of contents, it sometimes happens that the active link
indicator (the dotted outline around the selected topic in the TOC)
is displaced from the actual selected topic and appears above it by
about one or two topics. Thus, the dotted outline, that has the
same shape as the actual selected topic, appears to be randomly
situated in the TOC; it does not outline any particular topic
    listed in the TOC.
If I re-size the browser, the displaced active link indicator
"snaps back" onto the currently selected topic and all is well.
My other projects do not seem to be doing this. This project
does have some javascript running on the content pages but I don't
see how it is related and, otherwise, I cannot ascertain anything
that is unique about this project's TOC.
    Weird.

You say: "This project does have some javascript running on
the content pages but I don't see how it is related ..."
I don't believe I've ever run into this type of problem on
the forum, so I'd tend to say that your particular environment is
at the heart of your problem.
If you remove this Javascript, does the problem go away?
Are you working the project on a network (Note: shared drive
    = network)?
Do some topics appear multiple times in the TOC? That always
    creates sync problems for RH.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • X41 Weird Battery state

    Hi,
I have an X41, running XP. The battery status on this is weird. Here's what's happening:
The battery apparently has no charge - without the AC plugged in, the machine does not boot. When AC is removed when the machine is 'ON', it turns off. So far consistent with a dead battery.
Next, when I do turn the machine on with the battery in the slot, the machine boots. The Power Manager guage shows a constant charge of 42%. It neither increases, nor decreases. The baloon when the mouse points to this guage says:
    (42%) remaining
Then, I fire up the Power Manager, and go to the 'Battery Information' tab.
    Again, it shows:
    Remaining Battery: 42%
    Batteries installed: 1-main battery
Condition: Good (with a green battery)
The battery is in good condition.
At this point, I'm totally confused. I have checked the battery contacts, and the slot itself. All seem OK. I dont know what to believe. Do I have a dead battery? Or does it somehow have  a disconnect internally?
Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for responses.

i reinstalled lenovo's battery utility and opened it up to battery.  i ran the reset which is supposed to charge to 100 then discharge to 0 then charge to 100.  well it discharged just fine but wouldn't charge from 0.  so i put the battery in an x40 and charged it to 93. i have the utility set to charge at 96.  it said it was charging but the percentage remained the same.  i then put the battery back in the x40 and charged it to 100.  put it back in the x41 and ran the utility until it discharged to 90.  then i turned off the utility and turned it back on and it said it was charging but it wasn't.  i then called the co. that i got it from and me an tech support determined that the charging system on the board was bad.  there are no resets, no fuses to change the only thing i can do is change the motherboard so we agreed to exchange it for an x40 which they had.  i guess i'll go back to the old tried and true x40.   the funny thing about this whole thing is the green light indicator showed a battery, the utility showed a battery, it showed the voltage of the battery, the voltage of the charging system, the only thing that didn't show on the utility was the  time it was to take to charge it up to 100.
