Weird spooling in 1.5.3

When I try to run a script that spools, I get strange looking output that looks a bit like gibberish opened in Windows Notepad. Probably an end-of-line character thing.
What's worse is that I don't get the spool output I'm expecting--the same script run in SQL*PLUS spools fine, but in SQL Developer the spool file simply contains a copy of the script itself--rather than the script's output.
Is this a known bug and is there a work-around?

FYI As a workaround:
You can use wordpad which displays \n as newline as opposed to notepad to read the file.
Spool works for me (in 1.5.4.59.40 production), but there is a bug already
logged saying it does not work:

since i ran the software update from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 my machine freezes with a spinning ball... right at the log in window... the strange thing is... that i cannot even boot from cd...
starting the machine with command-s - single user mode... gives me an error with the wireless setup... password not found in keychain... however nothing else works...
if anybody had a similar experience... and can give some advice re the matter...

I am having the same problems. It seems that most of the freezing has to do with audio - if I begin to open audio in safari, itunes, or quicktime - or edit video. Anything that contains audio.
My fans are also acting very weird - spooling up and down.
Let me know if that seems the same to you at all.

Data in spool file does not match output.

This is a strange issue, and I'm not even sure it's a problem in SAP, but I don't know where else to ask and haven't found anything like it online:
We create pick lists on dot matrix printers. Occasionally, the output is missing a digit or character - for example in the middle of the delivery number. If delivery number is 81234567, the dot matrix output might be 8123467. The SAP spool file is not missing any data. And the paper dot matrix output is never skewed nor looks like it has jammed or "hiccuped". There is no space where the missing piece of data should be - it's all run together nice and neat. It occurs on different bits of data (sometimes, delivery#, name, batch, etc.), and it occurs on different printers at different sites. So far, it has always been only one digit or character missing every time it occurs. Reprint from the spool and it comes out fine.
So, SAP data is correct, and it occurs on different printers. Maybe it's a network issue? A printer buffer issue - but it happens on two different units, and that would be a weird coincidence. I really have no ides. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Hello -
Difficult to answer accurately here as no access to spool data on the affected system and exact methods used. But, perhaps if you can print the RAW (OTF) data to a fileprinter and send that as a .txt file to the printer hardware vendor they could investigate why certain characters do not print.

SCRIPT: second page is not print but need spool number

I'm creating a script. It has only one page. if the line item is exceeds in main window then it automatically print the next page.
now my requirement isgiven below
I need to print the first page and the second page should not print. But i need seperate spool request for 2nd page. whenever the user wants second page at that time he use the 2nd page spool number to take the print.
is there any solution or alternative method?

Hmmm if i knew your exact requirement i would be able to propose something better i guess, since this seems a little weird to be honest.
E.G. having a own output type for your page 2.
Anyway, returning to what you asked. You opened your form using FM OPEN_FORM. and when you are ready you use CLOSE_FORM to close it again.
You could make use of END_FORM followed by START_FORM when page 2 is to be printed.
This will give you page 1 and page in seperate spools.
you could as well close your form and open it again with ITCPO-TDNEWID = 'X' inmstead of using end_form and start_form.
But still i highly doubt that complete scenario.

Data is missing in Even Page when report running in background (spool)

I have this weird problem in my report. The report would run in background convert the data in to PDF from spool and then email it to people.
Now when the PDF has more then 1 page the error occurs.
It drops the last row from the even page. The total at the end and every thing shows correctly. If there r more than 2 pages then on page 3 the last row is not dropped and its all fine but again on page 4 it drops one record and on page 5 again its working fine.
One thing is it also puts an extra line(horizontal line which is not in the code) on those pages where its unable to put the record and its always the last one on the even page. I also looked up the spool. Its doing it in the spool too. So i think its not the PDF converter its when the spool is getting created for some reason its droping the rows for the even pages...
Did any one else encountered some thing like this? please help.

is there any problem with Background spools with SAP? We are running R3 here. And looks like its the spool background job that's creating the error. When i execute the report it shows all the record in print preview or if i print it.

WDDX Parse error in cfadmin Mail Spooler respool

I recently discovered that emails were not being sent and were stacked up in the spooler. In the CF Administrator interface, I verified that the mail server connection was fine and it was. I went to "View Undelivered Mail" (under mail spool settings), reviewed the emails that were stuck and selected a random message to "respool". Unfortunately, on every attempt to respool an email (one or many), I get the following error: "Error: WDDX packet parse error at line 1, column 1. Content is not allowed in prolog.."
I have restarted the windows service twice, checked my email host...all to no avail. The error still occurs.
I also unchecked the spooling option and emails (new ones only, not the spooled ones) are coming through just fine.
I'm running CF9 full on Windows XP.
How do I get the respool function working so I can send the stuck emails? all suggestions welcome.

File spooling but not printing - InD CS3

I am at a loss as to why InD CS3 (and Acrobat and Reader) will not print to a shared printer. Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3 will print to this shared printer. Why not InD CS3? This has been ongoing since CS3 came out.
The file spools, all images and fonts are downloaded but the file never appears in the print queue. Not on the originating machine or the sharing machine. It just vanishes.
CS3 Pro versions Loaded on Mac G5 dual 2gig (non-intel) running Tiger. Three other machines have the same issue. All various machine configs (G4 single/Tiger, G5 dual 1.8/Tiger, and an Intel iMac/Leopard).
- Printer is shared through a networked G3 running Jaguar (yeah, yeah, working on it).
- The printer is an Epson SP1400
- All drivers updated on all machines.
- All CS3 patches done.
- Permissions done.
- OnyX system maintenance done.
- Preferences trashed. Machines restarted (printer and macs).
- The InD CS3 file can be printed from CS3 to a networked Panasonic postscript printer. So it's not the file.
- The InD file can be saved down using Interchange to CS2 and that will print to the shared printer.
- The InD CS3 file will print to this printer if the printer is connected directly to the machine it is printing from.
Apple and Epson have pointed out that because other CS3 apps do print to the printer, there is something going on with InD, Acrobat and Reader and the sharing function. Is it the G3 and Jag? Or something to do with CUPS or .local or a sharing protocol? Please help me out with this.

Anything interesting in the logs on the printing machine or the sharing machine?
In the Print button in the Adobe Print dialog, click the popup to Error Handling and tell it to cough up an error page if it fails to print. Maybe the printer will give you feedback about why it's failing then.
If that does nothing, then what if you print the file to postscript and drop the PS file onto the printer icon in the Dock? That would at least guarantee you were getting a file and let you experiment with why it isn't making it all the way through the process.
A final thought is to raster it completely [make a Transparency Flattener set to 100% raster @ whatever DPI] and see if just a bitmap will print correctly. That tells you if it's something weird with the postscript at least.
It's all guesses, really. But at least it might give you something new to play with... Best of luck!

How to reproduce the weird phantom shared folders issue (._-blah@blah.blah)

I have the known issue of the weird phantom shared folders in /var/spool/imap/ with filenames like "^_-blah" that show up as folders with names like "._-blah". I have only 2 folders like this and haven't had new ones show up since July 14th.
I've read the old threads on this and would like to try implementing the fixes, however I need to be able to reproduce the folder creation in order to test the success of a potential fix. And I cannot figure out how to reproduce it. I have tried sending mail to ".[email protected]" and/or mail from (and Reply-To) ".[email protected]" via command-line sendmail (postfix) on my Mac laptop on the local network of the server. No combination of those seem to result in a new file in /var/spool/imap/
1. How can I reproduce this issue? I confirmed that I've not installed any Software Updates between Jun 14th and now (to make sure it's not that it was patched with some update that I installed).
2. What is the appropriate way to delete these (after I confirm reproducibility, apply a fix, and confirm subsequent non-reproducibility)?

Rewrite spool in BG job

Dear Gurus,
I have problem with spool request. I have scheduled BG job for every day period and thist job generate spool.
This job is writing values to the same spool number every day for a mounth. This work correctly for seven days
In eighth day the same spool number was attached to this job, but values in this spool were from another job. And every jobs which were created in last with this spool number have incorrect values of spool too.
It looks like this spool was rewrite by another job. I don´t know ho to prevent it.

Thats very weird... so when you open the spool attached to the job it shows the result of a spool created by a different job with the same number?
Check the spool number range maybe?... Also check for consistency in TEMSE

Spooky! Strange! Weird!!!

HI,
Although I've not been a member of this forum long, I've noticed that a lot of people don't even get to the BIOS on initiAL BOOT even when they've got the correct PSU, RAM etc.
I recently bought an MSI K7N420 with fitted AMD Athlon XP1900 (Palomino - I think). See signature for RAM, PSU other bits n pieces etc.
On initial boot 4 Red LEDs on D-bracket (Manual reads "System will hang if CPU is Knackered or not installed correctly" - or words to that effect.) No monitor display - "Check your Video", no POST, no BIOS access.
I was advised from various quarters that my RAM/CPU were probably at fault (favourites on this forum) - bought new 550watt CPU and New (Compatible RAM) result: still 4 Red LEDs etc. (as it happened both my original PSU and RAM work perfectly well with this board).
I tested my board with a Duron Spitfire - booted first time - replaced 1900XP to see if it would work (well, you never know) back to three Red LEDs.
I returned the CPU to the seller as "Duff" and he promptly sent me a replacement CPU and another (extra) K7N420 Pro (as compensation for extra RAM and PSU I bought and didn't need) - nice guy.
Fitted the new CPU to my board - booted with no problems.
The guy e-mailed me today and told me there's nothing wrong with the CPU that I returned - it works perfectly. For the cynical among you, he emailed me to thank me for a previous message I'd sent and he asked "Don't you just hate computer's when they do that?" As far as I'm concerned this guy had no axe to grind - and he was being genuine.
Of course this begs the question why would my Mobo not work with this Athlon 1900XP?.
I'd tried everything to get my setup to work with that CPU
all to no avail - only to be told it works perfectly well in another MoBo.
I'm not trying to make a major point here, I'm just relating an experience I have had with what seems to be a CPU/Motherboard conflict. (Stop laughing you at the back).
Many of us in the computer building community have these "anomalous" tales to tell. I mean, all you've got to do is look at Windows 95,98,ME, 2000 and XP to get my point.
What's spooky, strange and weird about all this I hear you ask? Well, the D-Bracket was actually correct for once (a miracle in itself) - I did need to change the CPU - the fact that there was nothing wrong with it has nothing to do with it, now has it?!! :D
by the way this post has already been edited - so hands off!!! Grrrr!!! :D
P.S. this board has now been tested with Athlon 1800XP (Palomino) and Athlon XP Thoroughbred 'B' both work perfectly.

Well-- that's excellent-- kinda what we used to do with old ampex audio tape recorders when we wanted a wild effect. I was going to suggest laying the footage off to vhs, taking apart the vhs machine, opening the cassette and spooling out a couple of handfuls of tape and pulling it back and forth over the heads while playing out to a capture card. ART!
All in all... do as Nick suggests.

Mysterious folders showing up in /var/spool/imap

I recently noticed some new folders in /var/spool/imap that were not added or generated by any means I know of. I first noticed them in my IMAP account which now has a folder called "Shared Folder" and these new weird sub-folders (e.g. ".-verlendens" — In the file-system they show up as "^_-verlendens").
That folder-name is not any user account on the server, either. I also found mention of the same name in the SPAM logs:

Powerbook screen - weird fuzzy flickering pixels

We have a Powerbook that has suddly developed a problem with its screen.
At random times, red/pink shimmering pixels will appear.

They will just appear at randon, and can stay for a few seconds, or until the computer is rebooted.
I ran an extended hardware test, and everything passed. I've also reinstalled OS X 10.4 using the Erase & Install option.
This seemed to fix it, but about an hour later, the fuzzy pixels appears again.
I've seen other messages about weird screens, but they're all different to this.
I would appreciate any help with this. Any ideas as to what it could be?

I'm no expert so can't suggest much. I have just noticed that my pixel and screen issue although recent (past 3 months) aren't nearly as severe or consistent as others in the forum. I notice the issue perhaps more when operating on battery power, text iChats, and when I have many applications open/running. My inquires lead me to believe that high temperatures have caused issues with other brand laptops. However I'm still not convinced its software and hardware related.
I have recently downloaded the iStat Menus from the Apple downloads page (free) http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/istatmenus.html. I chose the menu bar option, however there are two others to choose from including a widget. With this little utility you can monitor fan speed, temperature, cpu usage among other parameters. My fans are capable of spinning up to 2800+ RPM which I believe is adequate for cooling.
Next I downloaded Andrea Fabrizi's G4 Fan Control http://www.andreafabrizi.it/g4fancontrol/. A small (free) utility that allows you to see the temperatures of each CPU sensor and the temperature at which the fans are set to begin cooling. Best of all you can select different temperatures (lower/higher via a slider type control) for the fans to begin working, or as I've done when working in Illustrator and Photoshop while streaming music ... just slid the fan controls all the way to the left turning the fans on max rpm/cooling. I watched the cpu temp drop from 144˚F to 116˚F in about 60 seconds which is amazing. The default settings only allowed the fans to spool up to 1700 RPM which provided cooling, but nothing to drop the temps more than a few degrees. It took much higher temps to get the fans to spool up to 2800 RPM. Now I run my laptop at very "cool to the touch" temperatures.
I still have not discovered if the pixel problem is related to heat, however, I have direct control over the laptops temperature which in itself has made it more comfortable to use and hopefully will extend the life of its components.

My Excel with PowerPivots acts weird, it hangs when i try to change font color

I am facing a weird issue using PowerPivot in my workbook, there is a worksheet named Charts in my workbook and all the charts i am using resides in that worksheet. Whenever i try to change the font color in that sheet, my excel's color palette goes blur
and then everything just freezes and turns black. This problem is happening only with Charts worksheet, when i try to change the color in other sheets, it works just, the problem is only with Charts sheet. File
size is 16 MB, there are just 10 pivot tables with some calculations and some calculated fields. There are no add-ins other than PowerPivot.

Do you receive any error message?
Which Excel version are you using? Excel 2013 or other?
Which workbook format are you using? XLS or XLSX?
Are you performing any specific task?
According to your description, this issue seems only occur with the special worksheet "Charts".
Firstly, I recommend we copy all of the content to a new/blank Excel file to test.
If it works fine, this issue might be caused by the "Charts" workbook itself. We'd better check the "Charts" workbook. Or re-build the file with a new workbook.
If it still makes Excel hang with a new file, this issue might due to the content. Please check the content first.

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds,but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
