Weird Text
I received the following text today: "600070000000 (From:wireless) Your account verizon is disabled by reasons of security enter link and confirm your data http://4wirelessx.comeze.com" I was down the street from a Verizon store so I took it directly to them. The girl @ the front door said I was the 2nd person of the day to come in with that message, but that it was not from Verizon, and to just ignore / delete it. I am still curious, though, to see how wide spread this might be and who/what it is from.

Pie chart legend summary bug, weird text being printed
Hi guys, I created a simple report with a Pie Chart on VS2008 and on my computer the chart legend displays all items perfectly but when I deploy it on our web server the legend summary, which is always 100% doesn't say "Total" anymore but a weird text, have you seen this before? Here's a sample.
On my machine the chart legend is the following:
ITEM1 35.0% 63
ITEM2 38.3% 69
ITEM3 26.7% 48
Total 100.0% 180
On the server:
ITEM1 35.0% 63
ITEM2 38.3% 69

Weird text messages from number that at one time told me when a payment had been made
I have received a few weird text messages from 900-080-00400 that look like this
//VZWDM;2010/12/29 23:32:17 GMT;400.572;;;MB;F;;0;;MB
Any idea what they are?The long sequence of numbers is the Verizon Wireless reference number. The information you received in the text is your data usage.

Address Book - Weird text field behaviour
In Address Book when I try to edit any text field weird things happen.
When I start typing all the previous characters are repeated with each keystroke - for example typing "Thomas" would become TThThoThomThomaThomas". Pressing the backspace, delete or the ESC key repeats only the keystrokes made, i.e. "Thomas" would be added to the end of "TThThoThomThomaThomas".
If I click into another field and start typing it still remembers all the previous keystrokes and puts all of them in front of the key I just pressed.
Additionally, nothing can be typed in the notes field.
I've tried deleting:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
but that doesn't fix it.
Anything in ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book be the problem?
When I log in a a guest user this behaviour is not present.It's good that you tried this on a different account. That suggests that the problem exists somewhere in your user account directory. I don't think anything in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ would cause this. Do you have any input managers installed? These might be in ~/Library/Input Managers/ or something like that. I've never installed one myself, so I am not certain where they are. I think if you find one, you can just remove it from that folder by dragging it out, and then restarting Address Book might solve the issue.

Weird Text display in Mail & Safari
Whenever I use Safari or My OS X Mail, I get certain text that will show up in weird characters. This does not happen when I use Explorer as my internet browser or my email from any other application. Does anyone know why this is or how to change it? Would it help if I upgraded to Tiger? I am currently using Panther 10.3.9. I also am working on a imac G4. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Just guessing, but according to Kurt Lang...Helvetica Fractions is a known source of many font issues. Kurt Lang also has an excellent treatise called Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, which may help answer your question.

Safari 3.0.4 (523.12) weird text field & delete button behavior
Just installed the software update (10.4.11), and now have a weird problem with Safari 3.0.4 (523.12).
When entering text into a text field _on a web page_ (i.e. NOT the address bar or the built-in Google search field), the screen scrolls when the space bar is pressed (oddly, a space IS entered into the text field).
Also, once a few pages have been visited, hitting the delete key makes the browser act as if the "back" button had been pressed!
What gives?
I tried disabling plug-ins (and restarting Safari) in case one of them was causing a conflict, but it didn't help. I also repaired permissions with Disk Utility. For clarity, I hadn't tried rebooting before launching Safari.
Is it possible to revert back to a previous version?Hi,
Some other things to try:
- delete the Safari prefs file at /Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
- try resetting Safari via the Safari menu
- a test you can do to help narrow down things is to try Safari in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+\] to create a test one (and \[-\] to remove it if needed) -
I have a Z1s running 5.0.2 and I'm not a big texter. I'm using the stock apps for texting and contacts. I was trying to send a text to someone I had never texted before. I brought up their contact page and pressed the little text icon and I got a texting screen except that it was covered by a menu that had options like 'add video', 'add picture' and a bunch of others that prevented me from actually being able to text. The options did nothing and the back arrow also did nothing, so I was prevented from composing and sending a text. I sent the text I needed to from my desktop using mighty text. When I received a reply, I was prevented from reading it by the same menu which still did nothing. That was yesterday. Today, the menu was gone and I could read the return text. For a while though, I was prevented from reading any other text I had received. I would press on one and the first one I looked at came up instead. Then that went away after a while and things seemed to have returned to 'normal'. I really don't understand what is going on with my phone. I like the phone and I love the battery life, but this bit of weirdness and the fact that some apps that worked just fine on my N4, don't seem to work at all on the Z1s. I have an app named Move that counts your steps during your day. It worked just fine on my N4, but on the Z1s it's only counting maybe 1-3% of my steps. It says I walked 89 steps yesterday and that is absurd. I assume that the app uses the accellerometer to do its work. I have another app that uses the gps for tracking and it's not registering anything even though the gps seems to be functioning. And the phone doesn't have as good a connection during calls as my N4. I get a lot of static and breaking up during calls that I never got on my N4. 99% of my calls are made and received at my home, so that is what I'm comparing. Anyone have any clues as to what is going on here? The update to lollipop was done through the pc connection. Any additional updates have been done OTA. I haven't rebooted in a while and I think I'll try that first. TIALT
The texting problem has gone away for a while, so I can't take a screen shot. I loaded the suggested messaging and google fit. I don't like changing apps if what I had worked under lollipop on my N4 and now that I have the Z1s also running lollipop they don't. It seems to me that Sony must have something to do with this problem. Either the hardware or the software (os) is significantly different (inferior). The gps tracking app I'm using is called Bubbler. I tested it today and it only registered my location a handful of times instead of the every 5 or 10 minutes like it's supposed to. To me this indicates that the gps is not functioning properly. The phone and the sim card are about a month old and it came as a micro sim. I don't mean to be a whiner, I'm just confused and disappointed that things are not functioning as I expected. And on top of all that, the call quality is less than stellar. SorryLT

Computer spitting out weird text upon startup! HELP!
I've noticed on my iMac Core Duo that my computer has been running slow upon initial startup. The gray screen will stay for quite a while before the dial turns and turns and then changes to blue then the desktop.
Today has frightened me however as my computer has started turning black and spitting out rapidly all this text I don't understand. Here's a snippet of it. I'm going to transcribe it from a photo I took...

I called Apple Tech Support and they told me to throw away my cache. I think this is a more serious issue!First do what is called "Zapping the PRAM". Re-boot holding down 4 keys: Command ('Apple key') - Option ('alt') - P - R (6 fingers on each hand helps!). Keep them held down until you hear the 3rd "boing", then release them.
That mode where you saw white writing on a black screen is "Single User Mode". We now want you to deliberately get there again. If it happens spontaneously fine, if not re-boot holding down 2 keys, Command ('Apple') and 'S', and hold them until you see the writing appear. Wait for the writing to finish and type
fsck -fy (note the space between k and -)
…and hit <return>. You will probably see some errors reported. Wait for it to finish (the '#' prompt returns), and type that same command + <return> again. Do that repeatedly until the report says "…seems OK".
Type reboot and hit <return>.
When you are up and running get the freeware AppleJack, which is designed especially for dealing with boot problems, but can also be used at other times. Once you have it installed, start up again in "Single User Mode" (Cmnd-S) and use AppleJack's items 1, 3 and 5. You will understand when you see it – the very simple instructions will be on the screen. After running AppleJack's items 1, 3 & 5 you would do well to hit <return> a few times to get out of AppleJack (you'll see the ordinary "#" prompt) and then type "AppleJack AUTO reboot" (the capitalisation matters) – again the simple on-screen instructions will make it quite clear.
BTW, "No AirPort Driver found" isn't an error – it's a report! ;=)
BTW 2, there are currently no viruses that can infect OS X, none! You might have a look at Macs, viruses, and anti-virus software, after reading which I hope you will trash any anti-virus software you might have installed. Your Mac will be healthier without. Most ant-virus software is as bad as really having a virus! -

when someone tried to copy a portion of the text to quote something i said, they couldn't copy text: when they tried to drag their mouse over it, it pulled the entire article as an image file. i thought it was maybe because of the background i used.

1.43 GHZ G4 mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.4)This might be true for some but not me: I have two text boxes one that shows as an Image and one that does not. They both have the exact same Web friendly font. They even have the same exact text. They both do not overlap any other images and no images overlaps them. Next I created a new box with the same text in the same place and it is now text not a picture. So to me it seemed like the box that turned the text to an image had a setting that made it do that. So I copying and pasting the box and changing the text but now the box would no longer display the font as a picture but as text. This is strange behavior. I really wouldnt be that annoyed by it but if you look at the page on a PC it looks horrible.

Weird text problem in Internet Explorer
I have a totally puzzling issue with my text in my website.
The problem is that it looks fine when the site is previewed in Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari but when previewed in Internet Explorer for some unknown reason some of the text displays incorrectly as illustrated in image 2 below.
I have been trying for days to solve this issue but nothing I have tried so far can solve the issue. Is anyone out there familiar with this bug?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have included some images and my CSS details below.

I've run into an issue with text boxes or images, for some reason if i select certain text or image boxes, in article A, it will open a seperat article lets say article C. Its annoying and i've tried renaming the text box, the layer and nothing seems to solve this problem. Has anyone esle run into this issue, if so is there a way to stop this from happening?
I'm working with the latest tools v19In most probabilty, I presume you are copy-pasting these boxes or frames between articles (separate indd files). It usually happens when we copy paste buttons or hyperlink frames from one article to another. In such a case, if you click on that frame or button, it'll pop-up or open the source article or indd file it was copied from. Now, if you close that file, each time you click on that button again, the source file will open up.
So just let it stay open and don't close it till you finished working on your article, else stop copy pasting hyperlinked frames of buttons between articles. -

Sorry to bang on about this.
I have a number of iWeb websites such as www.sbls.co.uk
If you launch a browser and look at the pages they are fine. If however you change the text size, by just one point in the browser, the titles on some of the iweb pages goes huge, like 100points and renders that page useless. Decreasing the text size does not help you have to quit the browser and try again.
If you goto the page and then adjust font size in the browser it works just fine. Its if you change font size before going to the website. Its repeatable.
it does it in both Safari and Firefox for me and is likely a bug in iWeb. Does anyone else experience this with their web pages? I am at a loss what to do.

No. If you failed to turn off Find my iPhone BEFORE you upgraded to iOS 7, you will need the original Apple ID and password. If you upgraded to iOS 7 you will need this info; there is no way around this. If it is the device passcode you will need to restore your iPhone in order to reset that, which in the end will require your Apple ID and password in order to activate the phone once it is restored.
Why don't you have the original Apple ID? Where did you get the phone? -

That message is tied to your old phone receiving a message to get your emails. However on the your newer phone it fails. As stated tech support can correct it rater quickly or if you are adventurous Google the issue and you can fix it yourself, but tech support is easier.
I got one too yesterday from 6200 with the same or similar message. Already deleted it. I never had gotten my emails on my old phone. It was a simple feature flip phone. -

I'm having some silly trouble handling text area. Check out the text in the text area...I really don't know why by default it does not fit into the container in width and height...any clues? I'd be gratefull, cause I have the sam problem with all my text area's somehow...

I don't seem to know how to find the hardcoded info you are talking about...and one more question: I retrive String from an object, and try to do simple textArea.text = object.property, and it doesn't work...it doesn't show anything.I know there is a String value, cause it is being saved in an XML, plus the trace function shows it on the console...any idea? And another thing - the scroll bar doesn't go all the way down. It allows to view whole text but the scroll itself stops about 3/4 from the top....What's with that spark textArea?? The old mx never caused problems like this...

Weird text screen came up after I installed 10.4.10
Hey everyone.
Okay, so I recently got an iPhone and needed to install both iTunes 7.3 and Mac OS X 10.4.10. I installed the iTunes update easily enough with no issues but after I installed the mac update, it didn't shut down correctly, so I just pressed the power button to turn it off. When I try to turn on my mac, a black screen with the text 'localhost:/ root#' comes up, and I have no idea what to do. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I can't get off of the screen and I've tried pretty much everything I could find on the apple support pages, but it still won't fully start up. If anyone has any suggestions or information, it would be greatly appreciated.
MacBook- White, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 60 GB, 512 MB Mac OS X (10.4.10) iPhone, 60 GB Black iPod Video, 60 GB iPod with Color Display, 4 GB Pink iPod MiniType in reboot. That should restart the machine. However, I suspect it'll just boot back into that mode. If so, type in shutdown -h now. That should shut the machine down.
Bad juju shutting a machine down manually while it's installing an update. Pop in the install disk, startup the machine, holding down the C key, and hopefully, it'll boot with the install disk. If so, select your language and do an Archive & Install, saving user and network settings, installation. If that gets you up and running, then, before doing anything else get a bootable, external FireWire HD and make of bootble backup/clone of it to the FWHD. Then, you can supdate and have a means of restoring if you run into further problems. If the update goes well and after a couple of days you're satisfied, erase the backup and redo it.
