What thrid party tools are you using for backup compression?

I have a few SQL Server 2008 standard edition instances and I'm curious to what third party tools people are using for backup compression. I know upgrading to enterprise edition or SQL Server 2008R2 or above will give me that compression but I do not
have that option right now. I'm familiar with Idera, Red gate and Litespeed and I just want to know what else is out there.

What web based tool do you use to manage computer repair customers ?

We are working on building a new computer repair and remote support business which is similar to geeksquad.
I'd like to have an accounts section for my customers, that means a database in the back-end which would be viewed by customers to find their previous work, their signed invoices, and possibly be able to track their repair status. I'd like to add most of the features on geeksquad.com like chat with an agent, scheduling an appointment, tracking repairs...etc.
Can this be done with Zendesk or freshdesk ? if not, what do you recommend ?

Actually the thing is that when we are so eager about designing and start using PS then it's hard to tell that what tool we use the most and what tool we like the most to use! Besides my personnal opinion is to use Lasso tool would be my favorite

Hi, I have had a student ask me a question I cannot answer: what controls the color of the cursor that selects text when you use the "Edit Document Text" tool?
I have only seen it appear as a black semicircle over each letter, but at a different computer in our training facility, this same tool appears as an aqua-green highlight.
Is it a preference I never noticed? Thanks for any info.

Answer would be no unless application provided such feature. Numbers does not as far as I know.
Note that even if you have complete list of formulae used in a table, identifying formulae referencing any given cell is not simple.
E.g., cell T20 is referenced not only in
=T20+1
but also in
=SUM(T)
=SUM(20:20)
=SUM(S19:U22)
=OFFSET(S1,19,1,1,1)
=INDIRECT("T"&(10*2))
In order to identify such formula, we have to actually evaluate it to see if it references the given cell. Especially such formula as OFFSET() and INDIRECT() may not be found by static parser because their parameters can be dynamic.

The size and resolution depends on the intended output.
In my opinion relevant zooming shortcuts would be cmd-0 (View > Fit on Screen), cmd-1 (View > 100%) and cmd-spacebar/cmd-alt-spacebar to temporarily switch the current Tool to the Zoom Tool.

i use jmeter for without issues..
first make sure that the system from where you are doing load testing is in the same lan(without firewall) to that of server. Here you are testing the capacity of server and not the network bandwith.
So assuming very good network connection what is the servers performance level...
If u have to decide which tool is decent enough to load testing,
i would suggest go for jmeter. its reliable and i have used it without problems.

RECORDING A TEST.
     Add a HTTP proxy server in workbench by right clicking on it and selecting Add->Non test Element->HTTP Proxy Server.
     In Test Plan Add Thread Group
     In HTTP proxy server select Target Controller as Test Plan > Thread Group.
     Go to Internet Explorer and go to internet settings and set proxy server as localhost and the port
          which is configured in Jmeter proxy server.Save Settings.
     In Jeter proxy server start by Clicking on Start button in the HTTP Proxy Server Flap.
     In browser navigate the application which you want to test.
     The nodes will be added in the Thread Group.
     Once Navigation is done stop the proxy server and save the test plan from file menu.
LOGGING INTO APPLICATION.
     When we have to login into system and then navigate the system
          we need a cookie to be tracked after login. This could be achieved
          simply by Add -> Config Element -> HTTP Cooie Manager.
     After adding the HTTP Cooie Manager simply run the test.
LOOPING COUNTER.
     When a request is made multiple parameter is sent to server.
     Parameters are sent from the HTTP Request node added in the Thread Group
          in "Send Parameter with the request" table.
     If we run the loop count 10 times the parameters will be sent same in every request.
     If you have to send parameters like user1,user2,user3,user4....
          then add -> Pre processor -> Counter.
     Put start as 1 and and Maximum as 10 or whatever required.
     Put Referene name as iCtr or whatever.
     In the "Send Parameter with the request" in value column put user${iCtr}

Clicking the Stamp tool doesn't select the most recently used stamp - Acrobat X

My issue is pretty much what the title says. Clicking the Stamp tool doesn't select the most recently used stamp. According to the Help screens and training videos, it should. I've checked Edit > Prefernces and could not find a setting that adjusted this behavior of the Stamp tool. Does anyone know what can be done to fix this? BTW - It's not just my installation of Acrobat X. Other users at my firm are having the same issue. The OS is Windows 7. Users have administrator rights. Thanks in advance.

So, what your saying is that this function, the ability to select the most recently used stamp by clicking the stamp tool, has been removed, in spite of the fact that Acrobat's Help pages says it can be done (Using Acrobat X Standard > Collaboration > Commenting > Apply a Stamp > Step 1 > Second bullet). I wish they would put it back. It was quite handy.
Perhaps I should adjust my request. Do you (or anyone else) know of a way to use the same stamp several times in a row without having to choose the stamp from the stamps list? For example, if you needed to put a check-mark stamp in several places in a document, it would be a pain to have to go back to the list each time. Is there perhaps an undocumented feature (maybe holding down a particular key while using the stamp) that would allow for multiple stamping?

What custom desktop environment do you use?

I know one of the reasons I love arch is that you get to build a system from the ground up--you get to build your own desktop environment out of whatever login manager/window manager/file manager/etc you want.
I'm still experimenting with openbox and slim, so I'm just wondering what everyone else is using to make their computer "their" computer. What's your custom desktop environment built from? Maybe this will be a good starting place for other noobs (like myself), who want to be able to replace gnome or kde without losing all the features.
btw, what office tools are you using? I don't really like openoffice, and I really don't like abiword.

I am a gnome > xfce > lxde-ish > nothing-in-particular convert, so my post will be rather GTK-biased
Panel-wise...I threw together the visibility iconbox/desktop manager thing and two tweaked dzen scripts (power status and time). It's not so much a panel as it is two blocks in the corners and a large gap in the middle where I can middle click.
I use gmrun in lieu of Gnome's alt-F2 run dialog. I found that lxtask was a decent task manager. Seems to be unusually CPU-heavy for a task manager, though. I prefer htop. I use hardinfo for computer specs when I can't be bothered to look up the right commands.
As far as office tools go, I keep Openoffice around for compatibility and those times when vim+latex or geany+latex is overkill. I like gnumeric as a spreadsheet program.
I use alsamixer to control sound and nitrogen for backgrounds. No login manager here. I just xinit in my ~/.bash_profile . I've installed a lot of browsers for testing (I do a bit of web design), but I generally use uzbl, midori when uzbl doesn't work, and firefox when midori doesn't work.
Somewhere up there, jasonwryan mentioned the LnF thread. It might be worth also checking out the Crunchbang distro's applications list. The list is not as, well, light and fast, but it does have quite a few not-heavy desktop environment-independent apps.

I keep getting the box that asks "Do you use the Yahoo! Toolbar on multiple Computers. It asks Save to my Yahoo! ID, or No thanks, just save to this computer. How do I get rid of this one way or the other?

When I log on to Firefox, I get this block that pops up saying, "Do you use the Yahoo! Toolbar on multiple computers? It has 2 buttons asking "Save to my Yahoo! ID or No thanks, just save to this computer" It drops down from the Yahoo toolbar, next to the Y! on the left side of the tool bar. I have tried the Save button and no response, I tried the No thanks button no response. I tried the underlined "Learn more" and it too no response. I tried the close X but that does not get rid of this box. I tried right clicking and no response. It stays there through out while working on the mail, I cannot access the that toolbar so I cannot use the buttons on this tool bar. Please help or I will have to try another browser to see if it go away.

1. The way iTunes sorts tracks and albums
2. The reason to select a leading check box
3. Why there are Option selections (Yes /No) and leading check boxes.
4. Why some changes remain in the track info, but do not "take effect" in iTunes (Part of a compilation is an example)

As Christopher says, it's a compilation. Different tracks are by different artists.
Setting the *Album Artist* field to *Various Artists* and setting *Part of a compilation* to Yes should be all that is required. Depending on your *Group compilations when browsing* setting ( I recommend On ) either should suffice but I suggest doing both.
Based on your commentary, I selected all the "O Brother" tracks, and checked the boxes for everything line that was blank in the Info and the Sort panes. Only exceptions were the album name and the disc number 1 of 1 and the artwork. I blanked and checked anything else.
That's not what I meant. When you select multiple tracks, only those values which +are already common+ to all tracks are displayed. Typically these will include Artist, though not with compilation albums, Album Artist, Album, No. of Tracks, Genre plus various sort fields. A blank value may indicate that different tracks have different values or it may be that the value is blank for all tracks. For the drop down values on the Options tab the value shown may not reflect the information in every tag. If values you expect to be common, such as Album Artist or the Album title are not displayed you can simply type these in and click OK. This will often be enough to group the album.
If you place a checkmark against the blank boxes and apply changes then you will clear those fields so you should only do this if that is the effect you want. Putting a checkmark next to an empty (representing different values) *Track No.* box, for example, will just clear the all the track numbers which is very rarely useful.
Adding then removing extra text is for a specific problem where despite all common values being identical across the tracks of the album iTunes seems to "remember" that it should see two albums. A typical example would be when an album originally listed as *Album CD1* & *Album CD2* is given disc numbers X of Y and then has the Album name changed to Album. I've seen iTunes merge all but one track into the new album, but insist on listing one remaining track separately, despite both albums having the same title. In this case I've found overtyping the album title again has no effect whereas changing it to AlbumX and then back to Album does what I was trying to achieve in the first place.
Don't forget that even properly organsied albums may still break up if you don't chose an album-friendly view. Sorting on the track name or track number columns can be useful in some circumstances but in general I revert to Album by Artist when browsing through my library.

How do you use the bluetooth VIs with a Microsoft Bluetooth Driver?

How do you use the LabVIEW Bluetooth VIs with the Microsoft Bluetooth driver? I have been trying with no such luck.
   I want to use 2 computers to talk to each other using the bluetooth VIs.  Eventually, I think we would like a PDA/phone to talk to a custom built electronics board with Bluetooth. But for now, I would just like 2 computers to talk and then eventually talk to our own device.
One is a desktop w/ the Belkin F8T012 USB adapter. It installs fine with the Belkin driver (but I know I need to use the Microsoft Driver in order to use the LabVIEW VIs, but I have tried to get Windows to install its own but it says it is a BCM92045DG-Flash. It says it cannot install it because it cannot find the necessary hardware. I thought this USB adapter was on the approved Bluetooth devices list? What else should I try? Another Bluetooth USB adapter?
The other computer is a Dell Latitude 820. It has a built in Bluetooth module which I believe is the Dell 350 Bluetooth Module. On this machine I have been able to setup a COM port with a bluetooth device (blood glucose meter). It came with a serial port interface which we modifed to go through a bluetooth interface. It comes up as COM40. We have been able to communicate to it using their program originally designed to talk through a serial port. But we would like to use the Bluetooth VIs in LabVIEW. I can't even use the Discover VI.  Perhaps it is not using the Microsoft Driver as well. Do I just uninstall the driver and then try to have Windows install its own driver? Do you have any other recommendations?

Hi Javi,
This sounds like an issue with Windows and your specific Bluetooth devices. As you mentioned, the LV Bluetooth VI's do require that the devices use the Windows drivers. Take a look at this link for specific requirements for using Bluetooth with LabVIEW. Also, you can take a look at our Developer Zone tutorial on designing Bluetooth applications a found here. Regarding your device drivers, sometimes it is as easy as uninstalling the driver and then letting Windows discover the device and fine its own driver.
