What can I do with a working G4 and a nonworking G5?
I just got a new iMac and am looking to "fix" my old computers. I have a very trustworthy G4 flat panel 700MHz PowerPC. I also have a nonworking 20-inch iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor). More like when I turn it on, it gives a grey screen with the Apple logo and a thinking wheel. I was wondering how I could find out what still works on the G5? And if I could install any of the working parts in the G4 to enhance it?
To me that only suggests a software issue that should be fairly easily fixable. At the outside it could just be the hard drive which is failing (but that is a cheap and reasonably easy part to replace).
Switch the iMac G5 on and insert the OS X install disc. Then hold the C key down. Hopefully it will boot to the Installer. Don't install anything but rather select a language and then choose Disk Utility from the menu bar. Once it's loaded choose Macintosh HD on the left hand pane and then click Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions. Then exit Disk Utility and restart the iMac.

Hope you manage to get the moisture out, you can pull teh device apart and shave off the rust and corrosion you see buy purchasing a mobile repair kit, however rust spreads in a matter of months..

I recently upgrade to an iPAD Air. I gave my old iPAD (1st gen) to my wife. I restored it to original factory conditions. Now we cannot install iBook on it since it requires iOS 7. What can we do with older iPADS that are still 100% functional except for the fact that you cannot updrade the iOS above version 5?

[email protected]You can do just about anything with a JPEG image that you can with a raw image. The advantage of working with raw is that it is possible to work with more extremes in exposure. More highlights and shadows can be recovered in a raw image, but there is a lot that can be done with JPEG images as well. All of the library functions and keywording and all the other features of Lightroom can be used on JPEG images just as easily as they can be used on raw images.
Having said all that, you might be more comfortable using Photoshop Elements. Both programs have trial versions that you can use for 30 days to decide which one or whether both will work for you. It would probably be to your advantage to try them out and decide for yourself. -

"app.selection[0]" – what can be done with it? (CS5)/(CS6)(JS)
This is hopefully not a simple question – because then the answer would probably be 'no'/'nothing else'.
What can be done with a selection? Is it posible to sort out the different contents within a selection, declare variables around them or give them names, and then continue from there?
I have one specific idea here. I want to select two things – one is a group, and the other is a non-grouped object, and then include that object in the original group. No – not the same as selecting them and simply grouping them, that could be done by hand. I want to include an object in a previously set group without creating another one.
It has to do with a plugin used for creating apps for mobile devices. Creating another group out of the group + item makes all previous settings assigned to the original group dissapear. Not sure if the plugin will accept this method, but it's worth a try.Hm. This now is pure speculation on my side, 'cause you are not telling much about the plugIn that has to do with app creation.
From my knowledge of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, and I cannot assume that you are using the DPS plugIns "Folio Builder" and "Overlay Creator", I can only guess, that you applied something like an effect (in terms of DPS an "overlay" function) to a group and afterwards grouping anew with a different object to a new group. Then the overlay is burried in that group and will not work as you expected.
I never asked myself if it will damage an applied "overlay", if the object is grouped with something that has an different "overlay" effect or no "overlay" effect at all. But I will test for that situation…
After re-reading your question you like to add the same "overlay" effect of the original group to the new group or adding a new object to the group so the effect is not lost.
In case you are working with DPS, the overlay effects are "injected" with a method you can compare directly with the JavaScript method insertLabel("KeyString","ValueString") and will stick to the object until the values are changed or the object (your group) will not exist any more (by un-grouping).
So please, tell us something more about your workflow…
It's not that easy to add an existing object to a group without un-grouping and re-grouping. And this will destroy the "injected" Key/Value-pairs of the effect.

I/O timeout all the time on console - what can I do with my hard drive? Macbook pro late 2011
My macbook has been extremely slow for a while and after looking on this site I discovered I should look at the console - and noticed I had I/O timeouts all the time which I gather are a problem.
What can I do with my hard drive? If I back it up using time machine and erase the disk with zeros will the problem continue if I simply restore from time machine?
Or should I invest in a new hard drive - but if I buy a new hard drive is there something on my computer that will wreck that one as well? i use final cut pro/studio a lot and it's got to the stage where I can barely use it - do I need a 7200rpm hard drive? My current one is a 500gb 5400rpm.
I have 16gb of RAM in but since upgrading this from 4GB it made a difference to the speed for all of two seconds then the computer returned to its normal slow speed.
Would appreciate any help on this issue as I'm not particularly technical.I wouldn't worry too much about what the Console logs are showing... although I/O timeouts, if related to reading/writing to your disk may be a problem. I would have to see the whole Console message to know for certain...
Your hard drive is sure to be slowing you down with FCP. Your best bet would be to upgrade to an SSD, if you can afford it. It's the only way you're going to see a real speed increase in FCP as so many large temp/cache files are written to the drive.
If you can't afford a SSD, you may want to look at a 7200rpm SATA III drive (if your MBP supports SATA III - which model do you have? 2011 or later, I'm assuming, since you note that you've 16GB of RAM?).
You should also update your OS to 10.7.5 if your profile reading of 10.7.2 is correct. Won't help speed, but will be more reliable -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

It sounds like your iPhone screen is solid white and you cannot do anything with it. Take a look at these steps from the following article about that kind of issue:
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
