What controls width in streaming flash video?
I need to access and stream flash video stored on a US server. I do so from one of three PCs - all running Windows 7, all with same updates and same version of Flash. Two of them show a given video fine. The third runs the same video but it is clearly truncated on the right and bottom - that is, only part (top left two thirds?) of the video is visible. And two show timecode and the third...doesn't (or its hidden by the truncation). But how can this be??? And more importantly, what can I do to make the third PC play streaming video correctly?
If this isn't posted in the best place please say so.
Bemused and baffled.
Check if the same issue is repeating with new flash player version 10.1.82.76.
Thanks,
Sudheendra

Problem with tutorial:Creating a dynamic playlist for streaming flash video
hi, anyone tried the tutorial: creating a dynamic playlist
for streaming flash video?
i follow the instruction exactly as stated in the tutorial
and test the fla file, it worked perfectly well when i open the swf
using the macromedia flash 8. Everything look fine. Nothing is
changed except the url is changed to "rtmp://localhost/videosource"
in the xml file.
after i publish the file using the setting: access network
only, i try to open the swf and html file from the folder, the
thumbnail did not appear and there is no way i can click on any
videos. What i see is only the list, and there is no response from
the flash media server 2. All the files is in the same folder.
Anyone please help with this problem???? thanks....i debug the movie step by step
and realised that the xml file is being read by the code...
Your original problem stated it worked but not when playing
outside the
Flash authoring environment by simply loading the swf from
the hard drive.
The Flash authoring environment is a trusted environment and
so you really
need to test in the actual deployment mode which loading an
swf from the
hard drive is not a valid deployment unless an installed
Flash player is
available outside the web browser which you would have as you
have the
authoring tool and your users will not.
Use a browser with
http://yourdomain.com/yourmovie.html
to do final
debugging.
In this regard you may need to debug the movie while running
in real time
mode in a web browser with
http:// A technique to trace I suggested is to
create a temporary TextField perhaps named out_txt and send
trace message to
it such as out_txt.text += "My Trace Expression".

Creating a Dynamic Playlist for Streaming Flash Video
Hello,
I have been trying the tutorial given by Lisa Larson in order
to create a dynamic playlist for streaming Flash video files. I
have realized some of the FLV files that I have downloaded from
internet don’t show in the thumbPlayList and cannot be
played. But once I convert them back to WMV and the use the Flash 8
Video Decoder to convert them to FLV file everything works fine.
Any idea or suggestion why there is such a problem?
Thank you for your advice.

P.S. "scoobidiver" in the contributors forum just posted the following:
Since Firefox 9, all issues with slow Flash content or hangs in the French support forum have been caused by the Ask toolbar although users have uninstalled it with the Windows Removing Program feature. Sometimes, they don't even know it was installed.

'''EDIT:''' If the Ask Toolbar is installed, try these removal instructions, which link to a ToolbarUtilityTool.exe removal tool: <br>

Watching streamed Flash video (like say Hulu) causes iMac to go to sleep
Lately, my iMac goes to sleep (after some time) when watching streamed Flash videos. Is anyone else experiencing this? Oh, and before you say that it is my sleep mode, this issue happens WAY before sleep mode would initialize; usually a few minutes after starting a video.
Message was edited by: Dennis CattThe symptoms you speak of are the exact same ones happening to me. This use to never happen, it has only been happening recently and I have had this computer over 4 years now. I have also been streaming Flash video on this computer for just as long without much issue. It seems like an issue with Flash Player 10.1, but the problem is, sites like Hulu don't support older versions of Flash anymore.

Streaming flash video will not play automatically. Must move the mouse off the link
I have 4 computers, all running Win7. On every one, Internet explorer. 2 have firefox 3. 2 have firefox 4. When clicking a link on a website that has live streaming video (flash) - the stream changes to the next one and the video feed begins right away. Works fine on all 4 computers in IE, and in both Firefox 3. The video starts when the mouse is clicked, or when the screen is refreshed. On both computers with firefox4 - the mouse click loads the new feed, but the video hangs on a white screen until the mouse pointer moves. same problem when the feeds are set to auto-rotate. they load every 30 seconds, but unless I physically move the mouse, no video plays (or click the 'next feed' button again, which gives a split-second peek at the video feed I am navigating away from), I need to monitor many security cameras, and this is excruciating. Safe mode does not help. I have the newest versions of everything. please tell me this is a bug and not someone's bright idea

What format converts best to Flash video?
Hi folks!
I'm trying to get the best Flash video I can. I can export from my editing program (Final Cut Express) in a number of formats, including QuickTime, mpeg4, and avi. Is there a preferred format such that the final conversion to Flash will be optimum? Any ideas? I realize I'll still have some trial and error, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I would appreciate your help immensely. Thanks very much!
VixterGenerally, if you have the option to encode to H.264, that will be your best bet. Modern version of the Flash Player (versions 9+) allow for H.264 video playback without any additional encoding. If you don't have that option, then Quicktime would be your second-best bet, as it uses H.264 under the hood.

What is required in order to download "streaming" flash video from all websites?
I have tried many flash download Add-ons that work for a few websites but they do not work on all websites.
My goal is: If I can see the video on a website I would like to have the option to capture it.
I would appreciate any and all advice concerning this,
Thank you, DavidIt is usually not possible to save media content that is streamed as there is no real file involved.<br />
You can only do that if a file is downloaded and possibly buffered.<br />
If the player uses a secure connection then it is not possible at all to intercept and save that content. -
I am trying to determine if I have a Flash Media Server
problem or if it is an issue with Captivate 3. I have a 22 minute
video that I am streaming using Flash Media Server. Some but not
all users are reporting that the video will be playing and then
suddenly stop and restart from the begining. There does not seem to
be a recurring time in the video that this is occuring. Anyone have
any ideas what might be causing this.
Thanks
BrianHi Brian
I would think one simple way to test would be to provide
simple access to only the video using a means other than Captivate.
I'm not sure if one may create a link from a web page, but if you
can, I'd try that. See if the same affected users see the same
issue. If so, you have effectively ruled out Captivate as a
potential suspect and you know it's probably related to either the
video itself or the streaming software.
Cheers... Rick -
I have a Powerbook G4 with 1.5GHz running 10.4.11.
Flash videos are very jerky on both Safari and Firefox. I have all the latest versions of the browsers and the Flash player.
I have cable broadband downloading at about 10mbps and up.
What gives?Your Powerbook is too old and not powerful enough to handle streaming Flash video well. This is true of all G4s now.

Using Dreamweaver 8 I have created a site with PHP/MySQL that
is similar to YouTube. I am using the database to store the
filename for each uploaded FLV. I have a search page which will
return results listing page, and then go to a details page when one
of the results is clicked. So, on my details page, I want to insert
an FLV player using the Insert>Media>Flash Video function in
Dreamweaver. This brings up the window where you browse for your
FLV file and select a skin, etc. When I click on Browse, another
window pops up which allows you to navigate to the file, but also
gives you the option to Select file name from Data Sources. When I
choose data sources and select the appropriate field in my
recordset which contains the file to be played and click Choose,
and then then OK on the previous window, I get an error that my URL
cannot contain any special characters.
I thought this could work the same way as an image place
holder.
What am I doing wrong? Can I have an empty FLV player on a
page which gets the correct file to play from a MySQL databse with

After being able to watch live streaming flash video with Leopard these same live streams no longer work with Snow Leopard
http://www.hancockwildlife.org/index.php?topic=cam-sites
Is there a fix ? Do have Adobe Flashplayer 10 installed as well and it still no luck. They're working for me with Snow Leopard, so it's not a problem that affects every SL user, at any rate.
What web browser are you using? Are you able to successfully get Flash to work on Adobe's test page?

IMac can't watch streaming Flash fullscreen w/o repeatedly going to sleep
This is not an Energy Saver System Preferences issue.
The machine is set to never sleep. However, whenever I watch streaming flash video full screen, the machine will put itself to sleep, usually within just a minute or two of the video being made full screen. You wake it up, and within 10-15 seconds, the machine will sleep itself again - repeatedly. I have already reset the SMU, but that hasn't solved the issue. Resetting the P-RAM has made no difference.
I'm not sure if this is a software issue, or, perhaps a hardware issue.
Any ideas?UPDATE:
Full screen or not, it is still going to sleep.
This is a hardware issue:
Jan 1 11:23:11 Atlantic kernel[0]: IOSMUPwrController:: OverTemp notification
Jan 1 11:23:11 Atlantic kernel[0]: PowerManagement emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep!IOPMSlotsMacRISC4::determineSleepSupport has canSleep true
Jan 1 11:23:14 Atlantic configd[37]: AppleTalk shutdown
Jan 1 11:23:15 Atlantic kernel[0]: System Sleep
Not sure why machine is overheating. Vents seem clear of obstructions.
However, it seems so far to only be happening when I watch flash video. -
Hi,
I have an embedded FLV in a Dreamweaver page, inserted using
the
Insert > Media > Flash Video menu item and using the
Clear Skin 1 skin. Everything's been working well, but now
the client would like the movie to start MUTED with the option for
the user to turn the mute button off (or turn volume on).
I've tried using FlashVars (value="volume=0") and that
doesn't seem to work.
Is there some easy way of doing this or do I have to go back
to Flash and do it there?> (Insert>Media>Flash Video)
