What do I need to add a mixing board to my G4?

I have a G4 and I want to add an external audio mixing board. I don't have any A/V options on the G4. Is there a card or something I can add to it so I can plug in the board?
Thanks very much.
Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Hi,
Who made your mixing board? Does is have USB or Firewire ports? Or just serial ports?
There are a number of cards on the market that should fit the bill. One company you might look at is Mark of the Unicorn .
With more info, we can narrow done the options better.

  • What file type needed to add behavior?

I have a logo created in Photoshop (I have the illustrator file as well), and I'm trying to animate it in Motion. However, when I add a behavior to the PSD file, nothing happens. What file types can be animated using behaviors in Motion?
    Katie
PS-I know I could animate it using keyframes, but I'm looking to use the behaviors.

Euro spelling. It's the only thing people find interesting about Canadians.
No reason you can't put a Spin on a psd. Make sure you've assigned a spin rate to it. Look in the Inspector, click the BehavioUrs tab, and dial in a spin rate. See if that works. For Wriggle, make sure you apply to Properties (X,Y,Z, or combo of).

  • What do I need to add Airport to an early-2009 Mac Pro?

The wife's MB871LL/A. She wants to "get rid of all the wires". I'm pretty sure that just about any Apple Airport Extreme desktop card will work, but do I need to also get an antenna cable, etc.?

As far as remember, antenna cable is already installed inside of Mac Pro, so don't need anything except Airport Extreme Card.

  • What do i need to completely fix my ipad?

    Guys,
Let's be honest: As much as I love Steve Jobs and his company as a whole, why is it so difficult to fix these devices? I mean yes it is a cool piece of technology but it has its flaws that, when dropped or otherwise broken, FAR outweigh the benefits of such technology. Cracked screen? No problem! Just throw it out and spend another $450! As "green" as Apple is, it allows no room for human error; I mean gravity is truly an archenemy here. I obviously had no idea what I was doing when I attempted to replace the glass with a home repair kit and since it was out of warranty, I figured "what do I have to lose?" ABSOLUTELY no one will take it once you have opened the device. And for good reason. The glass itself is held in place by some unique glue which I could not duplicate, and the glass effectively holds all the other very-fragile plastic micro-components in place as well. After my "repair" attempt, the Home button AND the volume control just stopped working; yep, just like that. To top it all off, the finishing step that holds it ALL together is some kind of black polymer that must be heated for application. There is no way to duplicate that either. With regard to trade-in policies worldwide, no company (save the scammers) will take your iPad AND offer you some kind of rebate to hopefully help buy a new one once the screen has been cracked or after you have cracked the case. And it's useless to me.
BOTTOM LINE: If you're like me a month ago and are thinking that you can make your expensive mistake right again with self-repair, DON'T! I am a proficient repair technician in my own right but all I did is cause more problems and heartache. There is no practicality in this technology and anyone in these forums who disagrees, simply have not tried a repair themselves (or its denial).
So my penultimate question is this: What do I need to add to my shop (however many hundreds or thousands of dollars required) so that I am prepared to better serve those with similar damages and myself? What kind of glue? What temperatures are required? How do you steady the internal components as you re-lay the glass? Are there special tools? How do you re-seal the iPad? Are there diagnostics that can be done before the case is sealed back up? You see Apple? This is why people are so frustrated with these lines of products. Even with the vast internet and all its glory, even with excellent Apple support and service (up to the point that your warranty covers your device [and if you got your iPad as a Christmas bonus and so have no such coverage and never did]), the answers are just not there. It is paramount to trade secrets and presented like a foreign car; flashy, fun and impossible to work on.
Best to just suffer through it like Bill Hader on that one commercial, bandages, wincing, blood and all. MAKE SENSE AMERICA!

  • I would like to download videos from websites faster. What do I need?

I would like videos that I see on websites to download faster. What do I need to add to my system to allow that to happen? I have an eMac G4 with 512 MB of Ram, running on OS 10.4. I use Firefox as my browser. I'm connected via cable modem running at 256 Kbps.
I was told by an Apple store employee that I needed more RAM. I read an article online from MacWorld and nowhere did they mention added RAM would help with video downloads. Any suggestions?

The primary issue for download speed is the connection to your ISP. 256 kbps is slow by today's standards if you want to download video. It's really only good enough for email and some browsing. You should be looking at a service delivering not less than 1.5 Mbps. I think your computer would cope adequately with this speed but extra RAM is certainly advantageous. The RAM is important for the processing of the video as it downloads and plays. I presume you also have an adequate hdd to keep this video on.
I have a 512 Kbps service and this is not good enough for video download - it doesn't keep up with the play speed of a video feed.

  • What do I need to connect mixer into MacBook Pro 15"?

    Hi all -
I just finished a presentation I was doing for 250 people who work for me.
225 were in the large ball room and 25+ were participating via WebEx using VoIP for audio.
I told the A/V company at the hotel that I wanted to take an output from the mixer (where all mics AND computer sound was going into) and put it into my "line in" jack on my MacBook Pro.
This (I thought) would allow me to take everything being heard in the ballroom (microphones AND audio from my laptop) and pump it directly into my line-in and thus over my WebEx that would carry the audio via VoIP.
Well we didn't get very far because during set up I opened up System Preference and selected Sound, Input to test the Input Level... nothing. They tried a bunch of things and then finally came back to me and said I really needed a pre-amp mixer or something to "power" the signal into my line-in.
Does this make sense? I did a bunch of searches and found a lot of people talking about USB audio interfaces... is that what I need to hook my Macbook Pro up to a mixer in the room?
I want to ensure this doesn't happen again and am willing to pay for it. Any recommendations on portable devices that will help me accomplish this?

They could mean something like this small ($25) pre-amp I use one to raise the signal in from a vinyl deck and it would work just as well for other low level analogue signals I think.

  • What software do I need to add TouchEvents to app?

I have just finished the development of version 1 of my application using Flash CS4. It's almost completely AS3 code with a SQL backend. For the next version  I want to look at adding TouchEvents for a mobile version of the application. But I'm confused as to what I need to add to my development software in order to develop apps that use touch.
Do I just need to install the Flash 10.1 player beta in order to get access to classes such as  "flash.events.TouchEvent" or do I need to upgrade to Flash CS5?

you need to upgrade is you want to use more than a press event.  otherwise, you can use a mousedown event for a finger press.

  • What Software Do I need to add Chapter Markers

I've got a 55 min QuickTime movie file that I'd like to simply add Chapter Makers as well as setup a Chapter Menu selection at that beginning.
Also, I'd like to be able to render this file to a format that will playback on any DVD player.
To be able to edit/sweeten the audio and/or video is not a priority....I'd just need to add chapters so to divide up this one-long-movie into...well...chapters.
What software do I need that will do this?
    Thanks.
    Mac 17" MacBook Pro
    Mac OSX 10.4.10
Processor: 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM

You can add chapter markers using Quicktime Pro if you don't need to edit the movie.
You can find detailed instructions in the Apple document Chapter Tracks.
These instructions teach how to add a chapter track, containing your chapter titles and timecodes, to an existing quicktime movie without using iMovie or FCE or other editing software. No codec, compression, or conversion is applied to your video and audio, which are left alone. Only a new text track with adequate formatting is added.
    A few additional notes:
    - you need Quicktime Pro (30$)
    - you must correct a couple of points in the Apple instructions:
    a. in step 3. you have first to +enable the text track+ in the Property Window of the movie, and then you can use the Text to Text option in the Export Menu (otherwise no Text to Text option is made available).
    b. step 10 must be corrected as follow: +"Open Show Movie Properties from the Window menu, choose the *Video Track* ( not: new text track). Choose Other Settings then choose your Text track in the Chapters popup"+

I'm creating an epk and I need to add a bio to the menu.  Can I import the text file or do I need to retype the bio somewhere?  What is the best way to proceed?

    Electronic Press Kit.
Usually in the form of video outtakes, movie trailers, cast and crew interviews. Basically, the stuff that gets bunged onto commercial DVDs as extras or ends up on late night TV "Making Of..." shows.
To answer the OP, you want a button on the menu that leads to a still image, or series of them, set up as a slide show. You can copy/paste the text in DVD Studio and then add formatting via the Text menu. (Highlight the text and right click to access formatting controls). Or do it in a graphics application using the appropriate video image preset.

You need 10.7.5 or later for iCloud.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • HT3775 what soft ware do i need to add to play a MOD.mpg file on my macbook pro???

i am trying to play a video and the message says it (quicktime) cant support this file and i more need to add on?
    thx!

either file is broken or you need a codec. Alternatively you may go to an App Store and look for a player that supports multiple video formats i.e. by typing player to the App Store's search field you should get quite a few results.
