What is considered low memory amount? Ihave 9.8GB presently.

I have 9.8 GB available memory of a capacity of 56.0 GB on my IPad 2.  Every so often a white lettered memory warning appears while using it. I have noticed a considerable slow down in its actions. Does this mean it's near it"s end of life??

How can I tell if my memory capacity is low then. Why am I getting those messages?

  • What is considered low light condition?

What is considered low light condition for the keyboard? I'm in a room with 2 bright led tube lights and the keyboard light is still on? i had to manually turn it off

The light sensor can be turned on and off in the Keyboard and Mouse system preference pane and the Display preference pane. The sensor is located to the left of the iSight Camera on the top of the screen bezel.
A low light condition is when the light sensor can't see light. Now the problem with the new MacBooks is that the light sensor is on the screen not the keyboard. So you have to have light shining on the screen for the keyboard to turn off. Even if you have a desk lamp shining on your computer, the keyboard light will still be on because it is short range and cannot see the light.

  • Powerbook Lower Memory Slot Issue, what are my options?

    Hi there,
I have a Powerbook G4 1.5ghz that I purchased in October of 2004. I had no problems with it until after upgrading the RAM to 2 x 512mb chips and then installing Tiger which resulted in me later notcing the missing RAM and learning about the lower memory slot failure issue.
I find that sometimes if I remove the RAM and try and power it up and then replace the RAM again that the lower slot ocassionaly does come back. Trouble is though that the machine will either crash or I loose the other RAM slot when I have to shut it down. It seems to be so intermittent this way and I'm tired of constantly removing the RAM to fiddle about with it.
My serial number begins W8441, so it isn't covered by the returns programe. I would call Apple Support, but I am put off by a £35 charge just to have them discuss and diagnose the problem.
I'm in the UK and as I don't have Applecare and I'm not elgiable for the returns programe can anyone tell me what they charge for a logic board replacment? Looking at what they charge in the US, it's not cheap.
I use my Powebook for Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, After Effects mainly and I had been alright with 1gig when it was working.
I'm really trying to decide what the best thing to do is....
    - Do I pay for the logic board replacement, which I'm not really sure I can afford right now, or to be without my machine... especially as I have read that it can just fail again.
    - Should I just buy a 1gig stick for the upper slot and try and sell my old RAM, as that would be cheaper than getting the logic board replaced?
It's a real shame that Apple doesn't seem to want to ackowledge that this effects other users as I'd been so impressed with everything about Apple up until now.
    Thanks for any advice.

(Browse down for findings and questions).
The notorious lower-memory-slot-bug has hit my finally too... I never believed it until now (and I've immediately signed the petition).
I am outside warranty and I never bought Applecare either.
Also my powerbook, a very dear machine to me, is a less common type to have this problem: a 1 GHz G4 15" FireWire 800 OS 10.3.9 type. Funny enough my older powerbook ( a G3 Bronze) is still running strong with no problems whatsoever.
My G4 15" also has the "white spots" problem and a dead superdrive... I cannot believe how many hardware problems I'm having with this machine in comparison to all my older macs - even my sluggish powerMac 7200/90 never gave me this many headaches...
Alright, I'll stop complaining for now.
I've been able to browse the internet on this and found the following statements:
The lower memory slot gets "fried" because of a OS 10.3.9 upgrade,
or possibly due to overheating when the powerbook is put on the users' lap,
or possibly due to picking the powerbook up by the corners so the metal gets bent.
+ I have only seen one case where someone's UPPER memory slot was defective.
The solution to this problem (replacing the logic board) didn't seem to be definate in many cases so I'm reluctant to try this myself (and I have very little money). The alternative (replacing the upper slot memory with a bigger type of RAM) seems a bit scary to me,
    because I wonder:
-will the upper memory slot RAM get "fried" eventually as well after a while?
-do you need to have something installed in the lower slot or is it possible to just install one RAM card only?
-are there more people with a 1 GHz PB that have this problem? It seems it's mostly people with a 1,67 GHz that have been bitten by this bug and maybe that's why Apple decided to give the majority a free repair. I am not sure whether that is a common policy, I am part of the minority it seems.
As a solutions someone posted on a board that we should all buy KTA-PBG4333/1G RAM, but here in Dutch stores it is said this memory is only compatible with 17" powerbooks....
Does anyone know if it is suitable for 15" as well??

  • Several times over the last few days while on safari my iPad spontaneously shuts off screen goes dark then goes to home screen what's going on and how do I fix it when I look at settings diagnostics it says that there is low memory ?

Safari crashes several times while on pinterest, screen goes black then goes to home screen when I start safari again it keeps doing the same thing.  I checked the diagnostics page and there are several references stating low memory yet when I check the memory on the iPad there is plenty of memory  help please

The memory that is low is the processor memory, not the overall storage space.  Next time, before you go to that site, double tap the home button to see the task bar.  You will see the list of apps siting in the recently used list.  Most of them are not doing anything, but some of them are using up memory.  Touch and hold any one of them until they jiggle, then close them all off by touching the minus sign.
Do that every so often to help the pad use it's memory wisely.
Some apps, and browser pages use a lot of memory, and do not give it back easily, causing what sis happening to you.
You can also get a similar result by rebooting.  Press and hold the home and sleep buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.

  • What to do about diagnostic and usage reports. I have crash reports and low memory?

I just recently got my iPhone 4S and I'm still learning and going through everything and ran into the diagnostic and usage reports low memory and crash reports what do I do from here?

You do not have to do anything.
They will automatic send to Apple for diagnostic.
It's not meant for consumers to read.

  • IPad mini low memory report - what can I do to stop apps crashing

The iPad worked well, but friend started playing Nemos reef,, no problem to level 20 now the Disney app is crashing all the time and occasionally Facebook and Safari crash. There is low memory reports but I do not know how to improve that. I did delete some apps but didn't help. Disney no help because I am in UK although they were happy to take money for in-app purchases!

    Do two things:
    1.  In Settings > iTunes & App Stores, turn off automatic downloads for Apps.
    2.  Assuming you sync using iTunes, turn off the automatic app syncing on the App tab when you have the iPads connected that should not receive the downloads.

  • Low Memory Warning

I started a new app today and got the following message:
    Low Memory Warning
Air Harp has detected your device is
low on memory. If a problem occurs
    please restart your device.
No problem occurred. I think Stanza may have been using memory - I really don't know how to tell what's using memory.
How do I tell what needs to be shut down?

    Pharmer,
Looks to me as though you don't enough enough physical RAM to run as many processes as you currently are. 2GB of RAM is pretty low these days. Do me a favor and -- click Start -- Type
MSconfig in the search bar and press enter -- Click the
startup tab and see how many programs are checked to start on bootup. You can uncheck ones that you don't need running all the time. That should free up some memory to keep you going for a bit. But a permanent fix would be to increase your
    physical RAM.
EDIT: Switching to basic desktop will reduce the amount of RAM needed to run Windows, which is why you haven't gotten the problem since.

  • Low memory question...urgent!

I'm having some problems with low memory. Earlier this evening, I tried to download an mp3 file which, it turned out, was too large to download. I noticed about an hour later that my memory had gone from just under 18KBs to just around 13KBs -- and now I'm getting the little hourglass icon a LOT. My BB is getting quite sluggish.
The file I tried to download, obviously, did not get downloaded. What's eaten up so much memory? Where did it go? How do I get it back? I tried pulling the battery -- twice.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Oh forgot to mention to check this too. When explorering the Device Memory you can select a folder, hit the menu button, and choose Properties to see the size of the folders. See if the total numbers add up to the ~8MB that you put down earlier

  • Error when modifying VM Memory - "Invalid minimum memory amount"

    Good day,
I am trying to modify a virtual machine's static memory setting using VMM 2012 R2 with UR 2.  The VM is running on a Hyper-V 2012 R2 host cluster.  Whether I use the VMM GUI or attempt to issue the command via VMM Command Shell, I get the same
    result:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> $VM= Get-SCVirtualMachine -name "SomeVM"
    PS C:\Windows\system32> set-scvirtualmachine -VM $VM -MemoryMB 4096
set-scvirtualmachine : VMM cannot complete the host operation on the hyperv.domain.com server because of the error: 'SomeVM' failed to modify device 'Memory'. (Virtual machine ID22AD6F9F-E5B6-4B8D-9AB6-6A48A9521297)Invalid minimum memory amount assigned for 'SomeVM'. The minimum amount of memory you can assign to a virtual machine is '32' MB. (Virtual machine ID22AD6F9F-E5B6-4B8D-9AB6-6A48A9521297) (Error ID: 12700, Detailed Error:Unknown error (0x8005))
Resolve the host issue and then try the operation again.
To restart the job, run the following command:
    PS> Restart-Job -Job (Get-VMMServer localhost | Get-Job | where { $_.ID -eq"{8301e122-b69e-4ac0-82d7-82c473d99e3a}"})
    At line:1 char:1
    + set-scvirtualmachine -VM $VM -MemoryMB 4096

    + CategoryInfo          : ReadError: (:) [Set-SCVirtualMachine], CarmineEx   ception
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 12700,Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManag   er.Cmdlets.SetVMCmdlet
The error indicates that I am attempting to set the VM memory to something less than 32 MB, but as shown above I am actually trying to set it to 4096 MB.  I also get this error when I attempt to modify the value using Hyper-V Manager (or in this case
the Failover Cluster Manager).  Note that I am not attempting to configure dynamic memory on this VM.
One more note about this VM - it was migrated from a Hyper-V 2012 host cluster performed by exporting the VM from the old host, and importing it to the new one.
Not sure if anyone else has experienced this error or if there is a work around.

Really what the error is not telling you, is that you need to set the value for minimum memory in addition to the value you are setting.
if dynamic memory is on, you need to set them all:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh801341.aspx
    -MemoryMB<Int32>
Specifies, in megabytes (MB), the amount of random access memory (RAM) on the host that is allocated to a virtual machine. The default value is 512 MB. For a virtual machine on which dynamic memory is enabled (on a host running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
or later), use MemoryMB to specify the startup memory value.
I have run into this issue what I had VMs that I migrated to Hyper-V 2012 R2, because the minimum was actually lower.  Or it was empty if the VM had fixed memory.  And now it can no longer be an empty setting.

  • What is using my memory?

    hi
I have a Mac Mini with 8 gb of Ram running Yosemite, and I have the app Memory Clean running on my task bar, which I use to periodically free up memory. However, most times it shows that I have between 2 and 3 gb of Ram free, and I'm not sure why it's so low. Most of the time I only have Mail and Safari open, and occasionally only Safari.
Any ideas why the available memory is so low relative to what I have installed? Seems like 5-6 gb of memory are being taken up somewhere.
What would be a reasonable amount of RAM that should be available?
    thanks
    nick

Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> Memory
As greg sahli says, Mac OS X is attempting to maximum RAM usage so that it can avoid expensive (in power and time) access to your disk storage.  The less it has to access storage the longer a laptop battery will last, and the faster Mac OS X will run.  Granted a Mac mini does not have a battery to worry about, but the cache will speed up Mac OS X.
Every time you purge RAM you force the Mac to access storage to get back what it had cached in RAM, thus forcing Mac OS X to get the data back from disk which is orders of magnitude slower than RAM (and using more energy, so you are being less "Green" ).
If you have a performance problem, please describe the issue, under what conditions you see this, what apps are running, and any other details that might help us provide a solution.
NOTE:  I have 16GB of RAM and currently only 520megabytes are unused.  My system is running just fine, and I am happy Mac OS X is not wasting the RAM I paid for.

  • Low memory in Bridge

Can anyone tell me how to configure Adobe Bridge correctly to keep from running out of memory. I assume Bridge is referring to cache when it is talking about memory. I have the pointer to my cache set to a drive that has more than 600GB available and I get the low memory message after viewing 25 - 30 images

    Hello Zeno,
I do not have enough space on the C drive. I already changed the location to the D drive but I have a feeling that Bridge is not looking at it.
So far, what I have done is in preferences:
    1. Moved the Cache to a location on the D: drive
    2. Increased the cache size to 75% on the slider
    3. Clicked to Compact Cache
    4. Selected Automatically Export Cache to Folders When Possible, and
    5. Reduced the amount of memory in Photoshop to 60%
I have gotten no increase in performance from any of these changes
    It is really frustrating.

  • What happened to my memory? HEEEELLLLLLPPPP!!

Last night I updated my 8120 with the latest software available to me, which was the v45.0.124.  Before this, when I would go in to my camera it said I had about 40 or so pics.  Now, after updating, I have 0 pictures left.  I checked my bytes and it says I had over 9 million and when I plugged my phone into the Desktop Manager it said I had 21MB left.  My question is why cant I save any pictures or ringtones now?!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    That explains the pictures.
I strongly suggest you get a media card.
10.2721 megabyte is what you had before reset,
11.7538 megabyte is what you had after.
64 megabytes is what your phone has total.
15mb would be considered minimum for your phone to function correctly.
I would suggest the following articles and keeping your memory around 20mb
Just a tip, most people close the applications by pressing the escape or red key. This does not close the applications.
    Each
application has a close or exit option. For instance if you are in the
calendar hit the menu key (spotted key) and scroll down to the
bottom close is listed. You can see what is running by using the switch
application option in the main menu.

I want to ask something about firefox.
why firefox use very much memory?
can you develop to reduce memory comsume?
this problem is very distrub in my PC with low memory.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

How much memory is Firefox using right now?
    # Press '''CTRL+SHIFT+ESC''' to load the Task Manager window
    # Click the Processes tab at the top. (Click once near the top of the window if you don't see tab
    # Find firefox.exe, and see how many kilobytes of memory it's using.
Showing around 80MB when Firefox first starts is normal. Right now, I have 75 tabs open and it's using 500MB - this varies a lot depending on what you have in the tabs.
Other than high memory usage, what other problems are you experiencing? (Examples include slowness, high CPU usage, and failure to load certain sites)
Many of these issues, including high memory usage, can be caused by misbehaving add-ons. To see if this is the case, try the steps at [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]. Outdated plugins are another cause of this issue - you can check for this at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck
