What is CSS?

Pardon my abysmal ignorance but I'm very confused about
something. What
exactly is CSS? Can it be produced using the DESIGN view on
Dreamweaver
or must it be hand coded?
I'm new to web development. I did a training course on
Dreamweaver,
and am making websites by using tables. (I started by drawing
layers,
but learnt from this forum that isn't good practise and don't
do that
now.) However it seems that TABLES are frowned on. What is
the best
way to construct a website using dreamweaver?

I think you'll get the idea from the CSS tutorials at the
Adobe site...
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/css.html
the beginner tuts by Adrian are the best to start off with
and move on to
the more advanced tutorials.

  • What level CSS and HTML for Dreamweaver CS5 (Vers 11.0)

    What level CSS and HTML for DW CS5?

    CS5 does not support HTML5 in this sense -
    1. It will not automatically start a new document with an HTML5 doctype (you can force it to do this - if you are interested I can tell you how), but you can always just replace what CS5 writes with an HTML5 snippet.
    2. It will not show any of the new HTML5 tags in any of your menus (or in code hints) - if you want to do HTML5 you are on your own with manual coding.
    The same is true with CSS - if you want to do any of the advanced CSS styles (like animation, gradients, rounded corners, shadows, etc.) you are on your own.

    Hi all,
    Can anyone help me out to solve an issue calling a css user created method from a jspx page.
    Note: The css method is not the default css method. It needs to be called using 'styleClass' attribute in any tag.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I am not an expert in CSS so I don't know what a css method is. However, CSS can be applied to components via EL accessing a managed bean that returns the sytle text

  • How does linked CSS work in Word 2010?

    I'm trying to figure out how to work with the "linked CSS" feature in Word 2010. Can someone who has used it give me advice?
    I'm somewhat hampered by being unable to find any documentation for the thing, but it seems to me that I should be able to use it like this:
    With a document open, select File > Options.
    Select the Add-Ins tab.
    In the Manage dropdown, select Templates, then click Go.
    Select the Linked CSS tab.
    Click Add, select a CSS file, and click Open. Word adds the CSS file to the "Linked style sheets" list.
    So far, so good. But now it seems to me that Word should be able to apply the styles defined in the style sheet, and that doesn't seem to happen.
    I've added a style sheet that looks like this:
    outrage {
    line-height:400%;
    If I set a paragraph to the style outrage, it should acquire the properties of the
    outrage style rule. But it doesn't.
    I tried labeling the style rule as p.outrage to clarify that it's supposed to be a paragraph style (actually I tried that first), but it didn't make any difference.
    Have I missed some necesssary step here? Or have I simply misconstrued what "linked CSS" files are supposed to do?

    Hi,
    If we want to apply an external CSS stylesheet to the current document in Microsoft Word 2010. We may save your Word document as 'Web page (*.htm; *.html) first. We can't apply a css stylesheet to a .docx file directly as it's not html.

  • CSS Output Message Types

    We're syndicating spec data to an internal web service via CSS under 6.1. Specs are syndicated twice per GSM workflow to the same system, first as a "create" and then as an "update".
    So far in testing we haven't seen anything other than ADD types being output even when the same publication is syndicated more than once. The general GSM workflow steps are like this:
    1. Draft
    2. Developmental (Syndicate here as "create")
    3. Approved (Syndicate again here as "update")
    We would expect the message type at the Developmental step to be ADD, and then have a message type MODIFY at the Approved step to make it easier for the middleware program to know what it's looking at. But in both cases the XML comes out as an ADD in the syndicationCommand type attribute, and shows "Add" types in the catalog response section of the publication for both responses.
    I've tried using both the Initial Load and New publication types, but they both have the same results. The questions then, are:
    1. What triggers CSS to output a publication message as a MODIFY versus an ADD?
    2. Does the publication type selection make any difference to the system at all for internal syndication?
    Thanks!

    Doing External syndications handles this scenario by setting the type to MODIFY if it has already been syndicated. Your testing is showing that this isn't having the same behavior for Internal syndications.
    You could write a custom handler (like mentioned in [this previous post|https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2376907] ) which checks if the spec has an already syndicated TIP and outputs a MODIFY value. You could use the ExportExtensions framework to do this.

  • An error has occured while publishing "About Us.css"?

    After trying to clean up a bunch of errors around images that just won't publish I'm now getting "an error has occured while publishing "About Us.css".
    Not sure what a .css file is. I assume its an actual page. Any clues as what to do?

    How about if you try to add it on the HA server?
    Which server is master at this time?

    You're coming to this forum through Adobe's webforum; it's
    also gatewayed
    to a newsgroup
    (news://forums.macromedia.com/macromedia.dreamweaver). As
    a result of that, the forum is searchable by Google Groups:
    http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=line+spacing&as_ugroup=macromedia.*
    which came up with 3,160 results.
    I also went to the front page of the Dreamweaver General
    Discussion
    webforum and entered line spacing as the search term. It came
    back with
    a full page of results, all of which give you the answer
    you're looking

  • Snmp THROUGH css

    Hi,
    I am trying to monitor some hosts, using SNMP, behind our CSS11501.
    I Read The Fine Manual, and eventually got
    something working, but it broke DNS on the hosts.
    I removed the Group statements, and now DNS works, but not SNMP.
    Anyone have any clues on this? the relevant config info is below.
    Thanks in advance.
    flow-state 161 udp flow-enable
    !************************** SERVICE **************************
    service APP1
    ip address 192.168.16.75
    redundant-index 90

    service APP2

    owner BOGUS
    content mgmt1
    add service APP1
    vip address 192.168.16.18
    protocol udp
    active
    content mgmt2
    add service APP2
    vip address 192.168.16.19
    protocol udp

    !*************************** GROUP ***************************
    group snmp-app1
    vip address 192.168.16.18
    add service APP1
    active
    group snmp-app2
    vip address 192.168.16.19
    add service APP2
    active

    you should try to add to the group config 'portmap disable' and also add
    'flow-state 53 udp flow-disable nat-enable'
    or
    'flow-state 53 udp flow-enable'
    If this does not work, capture a sniffer trace font-end and backend and verify what the CSS does with the DNS traffic.

  • CSS Repeating Background

    Hi
    Could somebody talk me through implementing a repeating page

  • CSS Reverse Proxy Rule problem if caches suspended breaks web site

    Hi
    Another perplexing problem we've had tonight:
    2 x CSS11000 with 2 x CE560's providing Reverse Proxy Cache to a front end web server. During testing we had both CE services "suspended" but not the RCP content rule. So in my theory this rule couldn't work because it's services were not available. However, the CSS continued to hit this content rule and hence broke the web side. We then suspended the RPC rule, all traffic was forced to use the directtoserver rule and things worked again.
    The question this poses, and we will be testing this on Monday is....if the caches are "down" rather than "suspended" does the same thing happen....and is this a bug (because I cant help thinking thats not what ithe CSS should be doing) or something else.
    Anyone come across this ?
    Thanks
    Simon

    Simon,
    I think the answer to your question comes down to whether the content rule is considered "down" or not. When the caches are down, what does a "show rule" show as a status of the content rule. If the rule is down, the CSS should not even respond to the clients request via the vip unless there is another content rule containing the same vip (L3, L4 etc..)
    Maybe the keepalive types need to be changed. For example, using icmp for a keepalive type and shutting down port 80 on a webserver will NOT signify to the CSS that the services is down.
    If the rule is down and still increasing hit counts, then this would be some type of bug.

    How do I do this?

    Thanks SnakEyez02
    here is what the css says - (don't really want to change what is there) - but I can add to it ...
    - but i want to change the TABLE basics - width:100%; height:100%; border:0px; etc. - seems these are GLOBAL settings for ALL tables - correct? how do I change these for just the 1 table?
    thanks dave...

  • How To Get Rid Of White Space Around Footer

    Hi,
    I am really new at this (still trying to get a handle on HTML, CSS, etc.) and I need help fixing the footer in a template that I've created in Dreamweaver (CS5).
    Right now, my main background image extends the full width of the page with no problem. However, my footer won't do the same thing. Instead, there are white bars on either side of it and when I test the page in a browser, I keep finding that no matter how small I make the browser window, the footer still won't extend to the full width of the page - I just keep getting the white bars on either side (the footer does this in Dreamweaver, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.).
    I created the footer using CSS, made its width 100%, and made sure that both the margins and the padding are 0. Here's what the CSS looks like for it:
    #footer {
              font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
              font-size: 11px;
              color: #464646;
              background-image: url(../Images/Other/Footer.jpg);
              background-repeat: repeat-x;
              text-align: center;
              width: 100%;
              margin-right: 0px;
              margin-bottom: 0px;
              margin-left: 0px;
              padding-right: 0px;
              padding-bottom: 0px;
              padding-left: 0px;
    And here's what my HTML coding looks like for the entire template:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

  • Browsers constantly crashing

    It seems like my browsers (both Safari and Firefox) have been crashing like mad since I downloaded the security update last week. I was having the occasional problem before, but now it is a constant problem. Pretty much every time I go to someplace like Facebook or Myspace, it crashes. It's crashed when I've tried to search something in Google. Not only that, but I've had my Weatherbug widget crash on my dashboard when I wasn't even using the dashboard, and have had occasional problems with iTunes and Azureus as well (no, I didn't download that iWork virus).
    I saw this topic (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1888726&tstart=0) and so I've made sure to upgrade my Flash player and repair my permissions. I checked to make sure that my scanner was not causing login problems and it didn't show up, so I can't imagine that's it. I have not tried repairing my hard disk since I'm not quite sure how to do so, nor have I tried that onyx stuff, for the same reason (I don't even know what WebCore/CSS means).
    My comuter is a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, running OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 3.2.1, and I'm hardwired to a router/modem on broadband.
    Also of note, I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, also running 10.4.11 and 3.2.1, it's connected to the router wirelessly, and while I haven't really been using it (I prefer my desktop if I have the option), I just navigated to Facebook and Myspace and had no problems whatsoever. I'm assuming that means my problem is not with the router, modem, or internet connection in general.
    I'm really hoping that you guys will be able to help, because this has been incredibly frustrating for me. I'll never go back to PCs, but this's making me feel like I'm using one, and, as you might imagine, it's making me feel a bit dirty inside.
    Here's the crash report. Let me know if there's any other useful information I can give. Gotta get to work soon, but I'll be back. This problem sure as heck ain't fixin' itself.
