Sorry, but again, it's unclear what you mean. An iPod is a separate device and can't be "put on an external drive"? Do you mean that you want to move your tracks in iTunes to an external drive? If so, look here:

I am sorry for this rudimentary question. I am not a novice user, but have been using Windows for over two decades.
I used to think Windows Explorer was File Explorer, but sometimes it still has very high CPU usage after all File Explorer windows are closed. Searching Windows Explorer on the machine turns out nothing named Windows Explorer.

Acrobat Professional 6 can't display pdf ebooks in MetaProducts Offline Explorer Enterprise!

I have installed Adoe Acrobat Pro 6. Everything works fine. However, Acrobat can't view pdf-formatted files likes ebooks etc in MetaProducts Offline Explorer Enterprise 4.9. Could you please help me?

Browser similar to Internet Explorer for Mac?

I've got on-line training for work that I can do from home, but the site is not fully compatible with Safari. Its good in some windows, but in others its bad enough that I can't actually do the work. The application says it requires Internet Explorer. My question - is there another browser for the Mac that may more closely match Internet Explorer that I could try?

It depends what "requires Internet Explorer" means. If it relies on Windows-only DirectX features, then you won't be able to get it working from the Mac OS no matter what browser you use. If you have an Intel Mac, you could install Windows via Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion and run IE from there.
If it's more a matter of appearance, and the site relies on IE's (frankly, awful) web standards interpretation, then you might try Firefox or Camino and see if they serve you better.

How can I Import data without opening explorer. If I add Import button visual and click on it automatically opens explorer to chose exported file. But I already know location and name of exported file so I don't want that explorer to appear.

What about to have code for importing and exporting. for example:
Import(DataName, location)
Import(Collection1, "C:\User\Documents\Data\dataname")
Export(DataName, location)
Export(Collection1, "C:\User\Documents\Data\dataname")
With this code we could easily add it into timerEnd behaviour and we could make automatic backup files
Or
We could add this into save button where we do editing of our collection and save it straight to backup file
We could have the location and data name saved in local machine and call them in that import export code. This is exactly what I need if I want that data to be shared between multiple devices where all the data would be stored on server or
shared folder
And also for better user interface there should be a location picker (button visual) what would open explorer where we could chose the location instead of writing it down into an inputtext

What to do about Error 150.30?

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for 14 months on a Dell XPS16 computer running Windows 7. Recently when I open the software, and click on EDIT, I get a window that says "The product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your computer before it can be launched. If you continue to see this message after restarting your computer please contact either your IT administrator or Adobe technical support and mention the error code shown at the bottob ot this screen. Error 150.30. Adobe technical support suggested that I contact this forum for a solution. I hope that you can help. Thanks.

Thanks for your prompt response. The error window that I received did not include "Licensing for this product has stopped working." unless that was what "Error 150.30" implied. Assuming that was the case, I started through the solutions, eventually becoming discouraged. Solution 1 required the unzipping of a file and I don't have unzip software that I know of. In Solution 2 I didn't find "Administrative Tools" under "Control Panel." Solutions 2, 3, & 4 referred to a FLEXnet Licensing service and/or folder. I didn't come across anything with the FLEXnet name. In the "On Windows 7 or Windows Vista" section of Solution 4, I tried to work through this. I got to item 5 and wasn't sure what the Computer Explorer window was but I found a place where I could enter the command %ALLUSERSPROFILE% and press Enter. This action did not lead to anything and I gave up. It seemed to get more complicated from there on. Solution 8 is the reinstall option which goes immediately to a WARNING! Solution 9 is to contact Adobe Technical Support which is where I started. Any wisdom will be appreciated. Thanks.

Windows Internet Explorer 9/10 question on Win7 system

Hi this is my first post here even though I have been a member for some time. I would like to thank everyone for all the helpful information, as it has helped me greatly.
First off I am a IT computer engineer for a major hospital I do the programming, setup, deployment and maintenance of our hospital computer systems as well as Bio-Med. So you guys and gals can speak the lingo.
Now to my question. I will explain in detail.
We have computers that are know as generic and have generic logins in certain departments, (where anyone from the department can go to the computer and then use it for research on the internet). Well we seam to be running in to a problem with the night staff
where they surf the net for pleasure/playtime and these computers then get infected with virus, malware...etc. No one knows who it is and everyone is pointing fingers.
Is there anyway to have Internet Explorer 9/10 on Win7 have a login, so that a user tries to launch Internet Explorer but Internet Explorer will not launch unless the "user" has a login for the application and that application only. Thus giving
us a log of What time Internet Explorer was used and by what user and this is what they did/or went.
Example...
Generic account (ph12345) is open to everyone in the department, all they have to do is hit enter and they are on the desktop
BUT
User (DC12345) login to Internet Explorer @ 1:35am
AND
did this...
Now these computers have to stay generic accounts for the staff. I am asking is it possible to have just the application "Internet Explorer" have a login to launch the app???.they user will click on the application "Internet Explorer"
a popup window or a login screen comes up asking for login information. Then if the user has rights to Internet Explorer it would launch and they then can do what they need to do. But at the same time create a log of the launching and what was / where they
went.

Hi,
I understand what's your requirements, but based on my plenty of test, I doubt there is no way to restrict IE start.
In Windows 7, Compatibility of IE properties, it shows greyed out and couldn't be check run as administrator. That's to say, we couldn't restrict a standard user use IE.

IWeb and Explorer

I'm a teacher and I use IWeb to create a class Website.

I've been using iWeb to publish my site since 2006 and never had a problem. My school has all Dell Desktops and Laptops. Lately, out of the blue, when the kids using the lap tops in my classroom, my site crashes Explorer while loading. It just freezes and locks up. In a class of 25, I'll have 19-20 kids doing OK, and 5-6 with computers that are "stuck" loading the site.
If I can get the "Computer Lab," Explorer loads the site with issue on the desktop Dells... no problems.
In school, I have no problems loading the site on my iBook or old eMac using Safari or Firefox.
What could be crashing Explorer when the kids use the laptops? The school's Dell laptops and desktops use XP "Server." Why would the laptops crash loading pages and the desktops work fine loading the site?
The 'IT guys" will not help because they me, because they say they only support Windows computers. One of them told me my pages use too much "memory" in Explorer and that is what is crashing the lap tops. They have no explanation why the pages load on the desktops or why the pages loaded correctly in the past.
Any ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated.

The Dell Laptops have Explorer 8 installed. I don't know what version or how often it has been updated, but I'm guessing nothing has been updated since the summer.
Last year, the kids didn't experience any problems loading pages from my site... but last year they were using IE 7.
The tech guy told me again today that my site crashes IE because it consumes an "enormous" amount of RAM when my site is loading. He said this causes the CPU usage on the computers to "spike" and that is what is causing Explorer to "lock up and freeze" when loading pages on my site. He also said that the download speeds vary greatly over the district network in my classroom. The download rate varies wildly from typical Cable Modem speeds to lower than you'd get from a dial up modem. The speed may go from "good" to "bad" four or five times each class period (42 minutes).
If this is the case, why would the desktop computers in the computer lab running the same version of IE 8 load the pages without a problem? I believe that something is "wrong" with the the access point or how they've re-configured the wireless network. Over the summer, they placed several "High Capacity" wireless routers all over the building. The also have a dedicated wireless router that travels around with each "cartload" of laptops. Each Router has a different name, so if you did a scan of available wireless networks, there may be four or five different "networks" in range of the laptops when they are in my classroom.
I wish I knew more about this "stuff" because I believe that the IT guys would rather not bother with having to diagnose the issues I have complained about. Not only am I the only staff member in the school who uses Macs. I am one of the few folks who actually bother to complain about technology issues. Most teachers are so disgusted with how poorly these lap tops work, that they don't use technology very often in their lessons... and when they do, it's most word processing (Typing up reports on Microsoft Word)... so it looks like I'm the only teacher who has any problems. In Education, no if there are no complaints, it means that there are no problems.

Explorer Previews

Can someone please explain the logic behind what Excel files Explorer will preview and what ones it won't? Also what do the two different messages mean? "This file can't be previewed." and "No preview available."?

As far as Know, first, the "This file can't be previewed" error that occurs because you must open another instance of the program to preview the document. (Quote from:

Then the " No preview available" error is not only occurred with Office file, it also occurs with Notepad, Image or PDF etc.

Next, as you said, part of the xlsx files could not be previewed. I recommend you copy them to other computer to test. If them still could not be preview, it might be caused by the files themselves. Would you like to share us a sample of them through OneDrive
if possible? I want to test it.

Open QT In New Browser Window - Followup Q For Quicktime Kirk

I found a thread a few months ago (now archived) where you explained how to open a QT movie in a new browser window at specified dimensions. The example you gave was your page:

So I've got it all working and it looks great in Safari and Fireworks (thanks very much!), BUT unfortunately it does not work in Explorer. What happens in Explorer is that the window basically targets "_.self" (i.e. the parent window goes away), and when you click the "Close Window" button it closes the window and you're left with nothing.
I know that Explorer has all kinds of bugs, but unfortunately it's popular -- esp. with the PC crowd whom I need to allow for. Do you or anyone know how to get this functionality working in Explorer???

Yep. I just checked the link using IE for Mac. The "pop-up" window replaces the source window (not supposed to do that). Another reason to no longer use IE on a Mac.
The javascript is valid in every other Mac browser. Just not IE, it seems.
My PC is down (I think it really died this time) so I can't test its implementation of javascripts on a PC platform.
And, you're correct. It doesn't work as it should when opened using IE on a Mac.
I "borrowed" the javascript and it must contain errors that are not so obvious on the Mac OS.
I'll look for the cause but can't promise a solution. Thank you for pointing this out. I try very hard to accommodate all browsers and OS's. This one skipped by me (no IE use in years on my Mac).
Maybe a javascript guru can "fix" my (or IE's) sloppy page code.

IPOD With Click Wheel Crashes everytime ITUNES update

Every time Itunes asks me to update to a newer version the ipod becomes unstable and eventually shuts down. This time was the worst. Does anyone know if itunes 7 is incompatible with the click wheel. And what about Internet Explorer 7. It seems strange that everytime it crashes. This time was the worst. Spent many hours trying to restore the ipod. Eventually had to delete itunes and ipod from computer and reinstall with original disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How do I restore address book and emails lost when I upgraded to current version?

First, I am not a tech savvy guy, so please be patient with me.
Last Friday, my email stopped. Message on the screen said "Inbox is full. Delete unwanted messages to make room" etc.
First, I went to Help/Tools and upgraded to the newest version. That did not solve the problem.
I couldn't find anything on Mozilla/Thunderbird site that seemed to fit the problem, so I contacted my service provider, XMission.
After trying several things, and guiding me through several things that I did not really understand (see 1st line above), he then guided me to the Mozilla web site and had me download a new version from there. (His explanation was that probably there was something in my longtime Mozilla/Thunderbird installation that had become corrupted). So I did that.
We finished about 2 AM, and the "Inbox" appeared to be working, and all of a sudden email from last Friday through to early this morning appeared in the inbox. So I thought the problem was solved.
Alas, this morning, when I got looking through things, I discover that my address book is gone, and all my archive files, going back several years. I contacted XMission again, and they told me I had been contact Mozilla.

In the windows start menu... type %appdata%\thunderbird\profiles and press enter
In the explorer windows that opens, what folders are shown? (Names please)
On Thunderbirds help menu select troubleshooting information and click the show folder against profiles.
What folder does explorer open into this time? (it will be one of those you listed before I hope.)
Is there only a few incoming emails in your inbox in the mail profile your currently using? (I hope so.)

Can I use the new Captivate6 (subscription) Widget PlayBars and still give control to my learners?

Hi there, I want to create some screens that dont have a fixed duration, as I want my learners to explore several 'click to reveal' interactions (eg 4 pictures (buttons) appear) and user can click each picture to reveal some text and pictures, then choose when to move on to the next screen. I don't want to do "show click, show, click, show click" ie linear interaction, instead I want to let my learner decide what order to explore and when to move on. I know how to set up the click interactions - but how do I stop the timeline from moving on to the next screen? I want the items to stay on screen and not dissapear, and to prevent the screen moving forward to the next one automatically. Currently I have set the slide duration to be huge to give learners enought time to explore but surely this is not a best practice method? Ideally I would like to take advantage of the new Widget PlayBars for navigation, rather than building buttons for each screen. Is this doable? Much thanks.

The best way I have found to do this is to use Event Handler widgets.

The important part about these widgets for what you want to do is that they have options to Disable Continue (which permanently pauses the timeline) and Reset Success Failure Criteria After Action (which means you can click the objects as many times as you want and keep executing the same Advanced Actions).
This allows you to set up interactions that can be done indefinitely but do NOT force timeline to advance until the user is ready. You just provide another button (or you can use the playbar) to advance to the next slide.

Can't import class from SWC

I have created a swc file. I can import most of the classes from it in my project, no problem. One class, though, simply won't import. I've tried copying the swc directly into the project, referring to the source folder of it, etc. No dice. The swc builds just fine so there's no error in the class. The first few lines of the class look like this:

I should be able to do import com.thismoment.TakeEvent; right? It doesn't work. I keep getting "1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: TakeEvent."
How do I find out what's going on? Is there a way to dump out all the classes in a swc?

What is "package explorer"? I can't find a reference to it in the documentation. I'm using Flex Builder 3 on Mac OS X if it matters.
Build automatically is on. I've cleaned every project multiple times.
I don't have a Flex Library Build Path -> Classes tab. I have a "Flex Build Path" entry in Project Properties, and on the Library Path it shows my library added to Build path libraries, link type: merged into code.

Unable to export picture in AdobeRGB(1998) and 8 bit.

Im trying to export a picture from Lightroom with the following file settings:
- TIFF
- AdobeRGB (1998)
- 8 bits/components
When the picture file is exported is instead has sRGB and 24 bit in the settings.
Im not quite sure where it goes wrong.
I hope anyone of you can help me out on this one.

This is a minor bug in LR, on both Windows and Mac, that you can safely ignore. LR sets the wrong value for the EXIF:ColorSpace field, and that's what Windows File Explorer is showing. But LR does include the correct ICC profile, which is what color-managed apps pay attention to. If you open the exported TIFF in Photoshop or some other color-managed app, you'll see that it thinks the TIFF is in Adobe RGB (1998).
Note that neither the Mac Finder nor Windows File Explorer can be relied on to display photo metadata. In this case, Windows File Explorer doesn't show you the ICC_Profile field, and the Mac Finder doesn't show EXIF:ColorSpace.
