What is optimal system to run CS4?

I have a pc that exceeds the minimum requirements to run CS4. The only problem is my ram, I am maxed on the mb at 2 Gb. I have read several posts regarding crashes and slowness in comparisons from CS3 to CS4. My system ran CS3 just fine. I have experienced the crashes and slowness described on other threads running CS4. I don't know that my issues are necessarily system related. I am thinking however of building a second system and am wondering what would be the optimal system configuration on which to run CS4. Ultimately, I would like a more stable working environment. Additionally, rendering and exporting seem to be taking a lot longer in CS4. An example, I created a short minute and a half video for my daughter to post for her friends. It took 3:42 minutes to export to wmv? That wasn't my experience with CS3. Please give me your thoughts.
Thanks,
Tom

Update:
Given my ram limitations, I restricted many of the services and aps from loading using msconfig. I then uninstalled Norton Internet Security. Huge improvement. My system didn't multi task well. CS4 didn't run well with a lot of unneeded services and aps running in the background. Using it as CS4 workstation and not a as a family pc has improved the CS4 perfomance greatly. Just a thought for people who are trying to run CS4 on systems that are not optimal.

  • Pointers for optimizing system performance (run time) while running DP process chain with parallel processing

    Hi Experts,
    We are running APO DP process chain with parallel processing in our company, we are experiencing some issues regarding run time of process chain, need your help on below points;
    - What are the ways we can optimize process chain run time.
    - Special points we need to take care of in case of parallel processing profiles used in process chain.
    - Any specific sequence to be followed for different processes in process chain - if there is some best practice followed.
    - Any notes suggesting ways to improve system performance for APO version 7 with different enhancement packs 1 and 2.
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Regards

    HI Neelesh,
There are many ways to optimize performance of the process chains (background jobs) in APO system.
Firstly I would recommend you to identify the pain areas (steps) which are completing with more runtimes. Then each one of the step has got different approaches to decrease the runtime.
Like you may end up with steps like infopackage executions, DTPs, DP mass processing jobs etc which might be running with more runtimes. So now target each one of them differently and find out the ways to optimize. At the same time the approach you follow should be technically possible with basis perspective (system load and utilization) as well.
And coming to parallel processing, you can use parallel processing for different for different jobs. You can further r explore on the same using parallel processing. Like loading an infocube, mass processing, infopackage execution, DTP, TSCOPY etc.
Check the below link for more info

Let me know if you require further info.

  • New computer system specs for CS4

I need to replace one of my office systems. It's been over 3 years since I've bought a new computer, and would like to know what I should look for in a good system to run CS4 Design Suite. Main applications I use heavily are ID & Acrobat. Light usage of PS and IL.
I've usually bought Dells and would consider staying with it. I will likely go with Windows 7 (is Home okay or do I need more?). Which of the Dell lines should I be looking at? I know I need a separate graphics card (which one?). How much RAM should I get?
Are the AMD processors okay or should I stick with Intel -- and is there a minimum processor I should consider.
Of course I don't want to spend more than necessary, but I know I need more than a bottom-of-the line system. I was hoping to keep it under $1,000 if possible.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
    Thanks.

I've speced out a Studio Desktop system for $809 (before tax and any cash back) with the following details:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q8300 (4MB L2, 2.5GHz, 1333FSB)
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
2Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis
20" Dell ST2010-Black High Definition Monitor
    8GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4DIMMs
    640GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
    16X DVD+/-RW Drive
    ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB
    Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
    Also Includes
    Integrated 16-in-1 Media Card Reader
    Integrated 10/1000 EthernetCompatibility
Am I missing anything I need?
Is $809 a good price (not looking for a spectacular deal unless there's one now; just a good price) for this system?
If so, I think I'm ready to buy it. Let me know what you think.
    Thanks.

  • Keep getting the 'system has run out of application memory' window, what to do?

I'm running a mid 2010 MacBook with 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and OS X 10.9.5. Every time I'm on Safari I get the 'System has run out of application memory' window and it asks you to quit out of programs you're not using.  The problem is sometimes the only things running are Safari and Finder.  It'll then freeze up programs and prevent web pages from loading or showing up.  I'm not quite sure what this means or how to go about fixing it.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Meghan,
If you are seeing that alert that you are running out of application memory then I would take a look at using Activity Monitor to see how the memory is being used. If it looks normal usage to you, then you may want to upgrade the memory on your Mac. Take a look at the article below for more information.
OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH13895
    How to use Activity Monitor

    Take it easy,

  • What can I do when it says "your system has run out of application memory?

What can I do when it says "your system has run out of application memory?"

The message has nothing to do with low disk space.
There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the  leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • What is "launchproxyls"? It runs every time when I start the system.

I am using 10.6.6, Recently I noticed the computer running even I did not using any program. Then I found the process "launchproxyls", when I close this process, computer return quiet again. But every time when I start the system, it runs, and I have to close it manually.
    Could anybody please help me?

    Thank you for the response.
I found it was SPSS using inetd.
So I made two changes, but it the launchproxyls does still run the same:
First I uninstalled the SPSS, but no effects.
Then I reinstalled the OS(10.5), the launchproxyls did not appear. But after I update to 10.6.6, it appeared again, I still have to terminate it manually.
Is there any relation between 1.6.6 and launchproxyls?

  • Optimal system setup / configuration

    Hello -
Any suggestions / advice on how to optimize my system for running the FCS (version 2 or 3) and possibly obtain real-time editing performance with just simple transitions, titles, color correcting, audio sweetening?
    My current setup:
    2009 MacPro 2x2.26ghz
    16gb RAM
    ATI 4870
    HDD =
    BAY 1 = 640gb = MAC OS
    BAY 2 = 500gb/7200/16mb (formatted as Mac x-journal)
BAY 3 = 500gb/7200/16mb (formatted as Win NTFS)
BAY 4 = 500gb/7200/16mb (currently have B/C running Win 7 on this one)
    2x24" Monitors
(still researching on getting some decent monitors for audio; currently just using headphones)
    What I'll be editing:
    VIDEO
    - Analogue tape (Hi-8, VHS)
    - Digital tapes (Mini-DV shot with XL1 and Sony PD150 cams)
    - 5D MK2 files
    PHOTOS
    - Still photos from P&S cameras as well as the 5D MK2
    AUDIO
    - Audio (on camera audio, off camera audio like from a H4n type of device, pre-mixed CD's, SmartSound, Soundtrack, GarageBand compositions)
If there is a link to a different thread, website or PDF that has all this kind of info., please post that or those links; much appreciate it.

  • Stuck at Optimizing System Performance after installing Security Patch

24" iMac seems to be stuck at "Optimizing System Performance" after installing the latest Security Update. Software Update won't quit. Nervous to force the computer to shutdown during that process. It's working fine at the moment other than that the Software Update box won't go away.
    What do you think?

Well kind of answered my own question. Tried to run Activity Monitor which only started halfway and then crashed. I remembered the whole computer is backed up to an external drive everyday so I figured if it won't start at least I can start up from the external drive.
Forced the shutdown by holding the power button. Started up w/o a hiccup; ran Repair Permissions which checked out and the Verify the Disk with First Aid which also checked out fine.
So I guess it's ok though I may unplug that external for a day or two.

  • OS X 10.4.4 DOWNLOAD HANGING AT "Optimizing System Performance" STAGE

I began downloading 10.4.4 update about 1.5 hours ago; most of the download executed fairly quickly--within 10 minutes. But then the download got to the "Optimizing System Performance" stage, and has been hanging in it ever since. It's accompanied by the spinning beach ball.
Is this common, or at least normal?
If not, what should I do? How long should I wait? I don't know if I can even get my iBook to force quit at this stage.
thanks in advance for your help.
    T.W.

    Timothy,
What you are experiencing is not common or normal, but can hopefully be rectified.
According to iBook: If the Computer Won't Respond you can Force Quit by holding the power button for several seconds.
Restart from the Tiger Installation CD and run the Disk Utility as directed in the Try Disk Utility paragraph of Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance.
Next, attempt a normal startup of your computer.
Mac OS X: Troubleshooting installation and software updates says this about optimization failures:
    Installation fails during "optimization"
If the installation fails during "optimization," all of the software was installed. There is no risk of an "incomplete installation." The optimization phase of an installation only affects performance and not stability or features. You may force optimization to be repeated by reinstalling the software. If you were using the Software Update pane of System Preferences on the first attempt, you will need to download the standalone installer of the same software from Apple Downloads in order to reinstall the software.;~)

    Hello Daniela,
you try to perform an offline backup (which is a very uncommon way nowadays) and your SAP system is not down.
This is also described in the official documentation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm32/helpdata/en/0d/d309664a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm
offline: Database backup in offline mode, in other words, the database is shut down during backup. When you select this parameter, BRBACKUP checks that no SAP system users are connected to the database. If an SAP System is active, the database is not shut down and BRBACKUP terminates the process with an error message (message number BR0068E).

  • 'Your system has run out of application memory'?!

I've seen many users experiencing this same problem throughout the community, but none of the fixes have given me a permanent solution. Details of the machine are below, as well as what happens when the problem hits/triggers.
MBP Retina running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 (occurred in previous versions as well, thought the latest update would help but it didn't)
15-Inches Mid 2014 with 16 GB of Ram
Been using this Mac for good 6 months now, and one fine day of normal usage the whole system seems really laggy and slow and all of a sudden i'm unable to access anything and barely move my mouse. Then, a window pops out, telling me "Your system has run out of application memory", gracefully showing me that I have to force quit all my programmes for me to just stare at my desktop in utter disappointment.
I've been using Yosemite for awhile now (updated few days since the release) and haven't encountered any major issues, this being the first. Reading through many threads many have said that the problem lies with opening the Mail app, yet I haven't touched that app in months. I've also tried resetting the PRAM on my machine when it happens and the problem comes back again after several minutes of normal usage (iTunes, App Store). Checking the memory usage with the Memory Clean app, it tells me I'm down to a measly '15.58 MB' of memory, and it justfluctuates at that until I give it a restart again. This can't keep happening - I can barely use the Mac for 10 minutes without having to restart it, only to be able to use it only again for another 10 minutes.
Opening Activity Monitor tells me that mds_stores is the main root of the problem, yet I can't seem to shut the process down. I've googled and many say that mds_stores is spotlight indexing, but taking up all 16 GB of ram? That shouldn't be the case. Is there a fix to this? Does Apple know of its existence?
    Included some screenshots below:

    Step 1
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -F '$Time $Message' -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds | tail | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.
    Step 2
Enter the following command as in Step 1 and post the output:
    mdutil -as 2>&- | pbcopy
    You can then quit Terminal.
    Step 3
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Terminal. In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash reports related to Spotlight. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. A Spotlight crash report has a name beginning in "mds" or "mdworker" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent such report, if any, from the System and User subcategories and post the entire contents—the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.

This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.

  • System Process Running out of Control - Overheating!

The other day I arrived home and went to check my e mail and found my computer running at full tilt with the fans going all out and the case quite hot.  I thought maybe I had left dashboard open all day as I have done this before with similar results, but this was not the case.
I quit all programs and re started and the computer started to run at close to full process.
I ran software update and installed the RAW and system update that was available, re started still there.  I ran disk utility to check/repair permissions until they were good.
I ran the onyx cleaning set of stuff that clears cashes and histories.
When looking at the process monitor it shows the processor running at close to 3/4 but even with programs open in the background it shows them using little to none as expected with the process monitor on top of the list using some processor, but the little color chart below that shows process separated by programs and system show the system process running quite high.
Lastly I noted that when I restart and then let the computer sit for a few minutes at the log in screen  the system must be running hard again because the fans come on.  I do not know what is causing this or what next step I should take to remediate it, please help!
    Jerome

Hi, C Jerome. If your Powerbook were actually overheating, it would put itself to sleep, so you needn't worry that it's in danger of damaging itself. I can understand your interest in calming and quieting it, though.
First, how full is your hard drive? At least 10% of its capacity or 5GB, whichever is larger, should be free at all times. If you get down to much less than that, the processor and hard drive must work very hard cycling data in and out of virtual memory, and you run a substantial risk of system crashes, hard drive directory corruption and consequent loss of data.
Do you have disk indexing turned on? Indexing your drive is only useful if you use Find By Content searches (I'm not sure that's what Spotlight calls them, because I don't use Tiger). Indexing can consume an enormous amount of processor cycles and generate a lot of heat, in addition to taking up a significant amount of hard drive space. If you don't need it, turn it off.

Maybe it's set as a login item:
    - System Preferences: Users and Groups:
    - Highlight your user account in the left pane/list
    - Click "Login" tab at the top.
See if you have an Automater action on the list
    - Note, you can select it, then right-click, and can then select "Reveal in Finder". That way you might have an idea what installed it.
