What is Reply with Template in Message Filter?

Using Message Filters, I want to block a sender and have the message sent back to the sender. I see action Reply using template, but what does this do? All I want to do is send the message back.

What does reply with message mean?

In the Passcode Lock section of Settings, you can decide what you can access when the iPod is locked, and I was wondering what "Reply with Message" is?

The iBook nor the online manual even mentions this setting.

ISync fails - what to do with this error message?

I set my iMac to autosync everyday at a certain time. I realized that the last sync was 7/27/06, and when I go to Sync tab in the .Mac system preferences, I get the following ".Mac Sync Error" message exactly as follows:
"* -[NSKeyedUnarchiver initForReadingWithData:]: incomprehensible archive (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)"
Any idea of what sync fails? and what I need to do ?

With the release of Mac OS X 10.4 more than a year ago, iSync no longer has anything to do with the synchronization of contacts, calendars and tasks with .Mac - that is the responsibility of .Mac Sync. You should probably post you query in the .Mac Sync forum, here:

You may be able to deal with the error message by resetting the Sync Services framework—its truth database, actually—by launching iSync, opening the Preferences… dialog, and pressing the Reset Sync History button. That will leave your data intact and your sync clients registered, but reset the truth database and framework to behave in such a way that your next synchronization event will appear to be the first event you have ever performed.
The 'incomprehensible archive' the error message refers to is likely on your Macintosh.
Before proceeding further, back up your contact and calendar files using the built in provision to do so in both the Address Book and iCal. If resetting the database does not correct your issue, you can launch System Preferences, open the .Mac pane and press the Advanced tab. In the lower left corner is a Reset Sync History button. Press that, and in the dialog which appears, configure .Mac to overwrite the data files for one OS X application on your machine at a time, starting with contacts. Make sure that you overwrite your computer data [which you have just backed up, and can therefore restore if that is necessary] with the data from .Mac.

What's up with the Junk Mail Filter (all messages in Sent)??

Hi,
I've seen this question asked in a few different threads, but many of them seem to be dated back to September or October. Was wondering if there was any new light someone could shed on this:
I have a client who reported that all of her Sent Mail was going into the Junk Mail folder - and that she needs to "unmark" it before she can send it.
She is getting really frustrated by this, but I can see she's not the only one.
I reset her Junk Mail database a couple of days ago, but that did not help - now everything she sends is getting labeled as such.
I haven't seen a definitive workaround or fix for this - does one exist? Or does a rule have to be created in mail that says "any mail from <user@domain> is not junk"?
She is running an iMac G5 with 10.4.3.

The fix was: Turn off Junk Mail filter

What causes crash with "Illegal instruction" message?

Hi,
I'm a bit of an amateur, so thanks for any help.
This program I'm working on tends to crash with a message saying "Illegal instruction" in the Terminal (where it was opened). There are no details, and I don't know what could be causing it. It's sort of a complicated program, with lots of parts, each of which have worked fine independently or in other programs before, so I don't know what code I could show you that might help explain the problem.
I'm just wondering what this message is all about, or what types of things cause it. I can't find any information on the java site about it, but if someone knows of a place where it's documented in some form, I would really appreciate it.

hey thanks, this looks like it's on the right track.
But I'm still not sure what limit has been reached. What are the limits? Are they documented somewhere?
I've been dividing up methods here and there, like the guy on that message board did, but his was specifically a huge static method, which I don't have. But I've been splitting other stuff up anyway, to no help.

Is there a solution to reply with a template to more than one message at once?

Okay, I'm stuck. I was using MailTemplateEditor which allowed one to create a template message and select multiple emails with a "reply with..." command in Apple Mail. It was a great way to get a standard reply out to multiple emails/recipients in one step.
Is there ANY solution for Apple Mail 6 that can do the following:
allow you to select multiple emails and reply with a predefined message?
I don't want to go through individual emails, one at a time, and then use TextExpander to have my message added in the reply. It's a time-killer.
Any solutions out there?

Message Filter case insensitive help

Need help with a simple Message Filter that skips virus scanning if a message has "MonkeyTails" in the Subject. This should work with "monkeytails" and or "MONKEYTAILS" but it does not, it only works with "MonkeyTails". What am I doing wrong? I thought the (?i) makes it case insensitve

Mail; Using applescript to create an auto-reply with attachments

I know nothing about applescript and so have no clue how to do this. I tried googling a script but couldn't find one. I also saw similar posts on this topic, but couldn't find scripts.
I am looking for a simple applescript to go into the Mail app rules to reply with an email message with an image attachment. does anyone know where I can find that script? again, I know nothing about applescript, so I cant do it myself, so details would be nice.

ok no one replied. now i am wondering, how can i get automator to maybe add an attachment to a current outgoing message. i saw an option for that in automator, but it only works if you have automator create a new email message which i dont want. im using mailtemplate to reply to email messages and quickeysx too, so what i need is to add an automator script to just add an attachement (or 2) to the current outgoing email message. or maybe there is an apple script to add attachment to the mail message on screen? any help would be great thanks

John hadn't responded at the time I started typing this, but I'll keep it posted anyways in order to expand on John's answer a little bit. The answer to your last question is that the loop's condition has to return true for it to run the first time around. To examine this further, let's take a look at the way you had the while loop before:
while (daphne > deirdre)
Now, a while loop will run the code between its braces as long as the condition inside the parenthesis (daphne > deirdre, in this case) is true. So, if the condition is false the first time the code reaches the while statement, then the loop will never run at all (it won't even run through it once -- it will skip over it). And since, before the while loop, both variables (daphne and dierdre) are set equal to the same value (START (100.00), in this case), both variables are equal at the point when the code first reaches the while statement. Since they are equal, daphne is NOT greater than dierdre, and therefore the condition returns false. Since the condition is false the first time the code reaches it, the code inside the loop's braces is skipped over and never run. As John recommended in the previous post, changing it to this:
while (daphne >= deirdre)
fixes the problem because now the condition is true. The use of the "greater than or equal to" operator (>=) instead of the "great than" operator (>) means that the condition can now be returned true even if daphne is equal to deirdre, not just if it's greater than deirdre. And since daphne and deirdre are equal (they are both 100.00) when the code first reaches the while loop, the condition is now returned true and the code inside the loop's braces will be run. Once the program reaches the end of the code inside the loop's braces, it will check to see if the condition is still true and, if it is, it will run the loop's code again (and again and again and again, checking to see if the condition is still true each time), and if it's not true, it will skip over the loop's bottom brace and continue on with the rest of the program.

What's up with this Green Pixel?

I am confused here... I just noticed a bright green pixel that appears to be stuck but only under certain circumstances...
For example, it doesn't appear in Pixel Check (under any of the tests) nor does it appear in a screensaver that produces black in that area... HOWEVER, it does appear in the sample screen in Sys Pref for that screen saver...
What's up with that?

Ok, this is just WEIRD! I'm looking at it in DVD player and I can see it clear as day...
But then I go full screen and I am viewing the same area and it's either not there or is considerably less bright...
Is this software or something?

Since Pixel Check doesn't show it as "stuck" or dead, it must be some sort of software issue, right?
I mean, it seems to respond properly to that program telling each sub-pixel to turn on and off...
Also, it appears in a DVD window under most circumstances (not just black) but seems to dim as I increase the size of the window...

Message filter replies with wrong template?

I have filters that search the body for a keyword and reply with a template. No matter which template is selected it replies with one template everytime.

Here is the reply I sent to the OP by private mail (while my account was mistakenly blacklisted):
I think the search that worked was with the Quick Filter Bar, which searches downloaded mail. The "Run search on server" setting is in the window that appears when you right-click an IMAP folder, Search Messages (this type of search is similar to the filter dialogue).
But even if you have everything set up properly to search or filter according to body text, I can't explain why each filter replies with the same template. Perhaps you are experiencing this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=533229

Cannot get new messages to download automatically and auto reply with out of office message have to manually check for new messages to get it to do this

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird 31.3.0. I know how to create a message filter to set up an auto reply message, but cannot get Mozilla to automatically download new message and auto reply with the message in the filter unless I manually check for new messages, that is the only way to make it work. I have looked online and can't seem to find an answer to this particular issue. According to anything that I have found, I have the correct boxes checked in server settings: check for new messages at startup, automatically check for new messages, check for new messages every x amount of minutes. It's one thing to have to leave my computer on and Thunderbird open to make this work, but to have to manually check for new messages to get the auto response to work defeats the whole purpose of having an auto reply, as I use them for vacations, holidays, etc. I have wondered if there are any security settings that are causing this issue, but if so, I don't know what changes to make to them. Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me crazy.

I do find it a bit odd that Thunderbird is not getting mail on schedule, perhaps you have an add-on or anti virus program that prevents that.
Holding shift while you start Thunderbird will start with add-ons disabled to check if mail come automatically.

You say that not having such a setting in Thunderbird is something that needs fixing. This idea comes on the whole because Outlook has such an option. what most people are not aware of it only works with Exchange server. There is no "vacation response" in server mail specifications so every server implements it differently.
Just as all cars have a radiator, you can not take any radiator and just put it in, they are subtly different even though they perform the same purpose. Same goes for the various vacation responders, They perform the same purpose but they differ between email server software brands.
Thunderbird leaves it to the server end to expose the functionality, as they are really the only ones who understand what they did. Outlook exposes the option and mostly greys it out.
