Answer: learn about application design instead of just writing code. There's more to programming than just the APIs.

Answer: No clue what "serverside management" is supposed to be. But if you want to stick to the web realm, you should have a look at overall JEE architecture, servlets, JSP and JSTL. AJAX too, although that's of course not a Java thing. Oh, and maybe basic web design principles and usability. Once again, programming's more than just knowing the syntax.

Answer: if a server-side scripting language is what you want to learn, so be it. You might want to consider what you actually want to do in the future. I have yet to see a PHP programmer in business application development.

Answer: I tried to learn PHP but gave up quite quickly. No idea whether it's considered "easy". No idea about an actual performance comparision between Java and PHP either - but Java's definitely more flexible. As long as I don't see a PHP-based ERP system, I suppose Java is performing sufficiently.

What should I learn next?
So I already know Python. I decided to learn Python because I heard it was a good language to start out with. I've got a good grasp of the language and have been making various scripts for my personal needs. I've become interested in other languages and have wondered what I should learn next. So should I learn another language or continue exercising my hacker skills with Python? I want to learn a wide variety of types of programming.
ArchArael wrote:Learning new programming languages is fun but I think it's better if you develop something.
Much more better would be some bug fixing or helping some existing projects.
You can always learn new languages when you need to and save your time for something more useful (girl friend, friends, books, games, music etc).
Learning programming languages just to learn keeps you from doing practice in programming.
Mastering something takes time and practice, as someone told you before.
I don't think so. Programming takes time and practice, sure, but it also takes reading code and reading about programming. You can't give a pen and paper to a kid and say "here, write me a book" and spect this kid will write a masterpiece if she hadn't read a lot before.
Learning a new language gives you insights of how programming works, even on different languages. Both you and I aren't native speakers of English, but learning it changed the way I see somethings in Portuguese and vice versa; I have a different understanding of English and Portuguese that I would have if I've learnt only one of them, I belive this applies to you, too. This also works with programming languages: the way I program in C was different before I grasped some Lisp, and it would probably be different if I hadn't learnt Python, and so on.
Back on-topic, I'd recommend learning C, so you can grasp some of the basics: pointers, memory allocation, structs and unions, etc. Later, I'd suggest you to learn a language that makes you think about programming in a different way: Lisp or Haskell. Shell script is also nice, but I'd only use it to "glue" things together, and I don't see a problem with learning it concurrently with another language.
Edit:
Edit: Forgot to add this,
http://www.e-booksdirectory.com/programming.php
now say goodbye to all your free time and go learn 6 or 7 languages.
Indeed, very good site. I like the Mathematics "folder", too.

What should I learn next? Which choice is better?
After getting the Oracle Database10g OCP and LPI Linux Level1 certificates , I have finished (learn and practise) the following documents:
Concepts
Administrator's Guide
Backup and Recovery Basics
Backup and Recovery Advanced User's Guide
Data Guard Broker(10g and 11g)
Data Guard Concepts and Administration(10g and 11g)
Platform Guide for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit)
2 Day + Performance Tuning Guide
Administrator's Reference for UNIX-Based Operating Systems
Storege Administrator's Guide(11g)
PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
What should I learn next? Which choice of the following is better?
Choice 1:
Go in deep for all previous documents and stop to learn additional documents.
Choice 2:
Enterprise Manager Advanced Configuration
Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface
Enterprise Manager Concepts
High Availability Best Practices
High Availability Overview
Choice 3:
Secure Backup Administrator's Guide HTML PDF
Secure Backup Installation Guide
Secure Backup Migration Guide
Secure Backup Reference
Choice 4:
2 Day + Real Application Clusters Guide
Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Administration and
Deployment Guide
Choice 5:
Performance Tuning Guide
Security Guide
Choice6:
LPI Linux Level2I think you can't 'learn' Pratical Oracle 8i, without putting into practice what you 'learned'. When I look at the questions you have asked so far, as far as I am concerned, you have understood the stuff you 'learned' only half, exactly because you have no practical experience. As far as I am concerned you can't 'learn' Oracle from books, this is exactly why OCP is useless. People who have OCP don't 'know' Oracle, they know the books.
There have been no fundamental changes in the database engine between Oracle 8i, 9i and 10g. In fact, the last big change of architecture was when Oracle released Oracle 6, and After Image Journalling was replaced by redologs.
That said more than 90 percent of Practical Oracle 8i is still valid. You won't find any fancy stuff about database control, but you can do without.
However, I would recommend against 'learning' anything in the same fashion you have done so far. Looking at the list of books you 'learned' your understanding simply must be very superficial. Essentially you are now swimming in a pool without water, and you didn't even get your toes wet.
You may not like this opinion, but I am afraid when you are thrown in a pool with water (ie get a job) you will sink immediately.

Most of the remotely useful functionality that Applets could give you can be easier done with Flash these days.A year ago I'd say because of the vendor lockin it isn't worth to think about flash, but today...
But it seems that I'm the only one bothering... :o(Maybe there's a reason that nobody else bothers.Surely is, but I don't understand it.
Nearly every web application we created in the last 3 years was about to put fat clinet features like dynamic auto compleetion and updates of the page content without Page refresh (to give just 2 examples) into a web application hiding the networtk communication by ajax.
Doing that as an applet (or flash-application if you'r Adobe addicted) would have been much easier, more (automatically) testable and more browser indipendent. But nobody (including customers who don't know better and collegues who don't want to cunsult the customers but code) wants to think about that because web applications are considered as the most modern aproach...

On-Demand/On-Cloud vs On-premise or HybriD ?? What next..
Hi CRM Enthusiasts
A short intro about me, graduated in IT and joined one of SAP Consultancy firm back in 2006. And from there I was involved in numerous CRM implementations across the globe. So my forte is SAP CRM & Middleware, and light on ECC modules.
I started on SAP CRM 4.0 back then, and from then to now, things have evolved slowly but in a good way surely.
Now, as part of my job profile, I am responsible for designing the CRM architecture and action plan for next 5 years for my current employer. Its fascinating how things got changed in past one year or so, like Hybris acquisition, this came as a shocker as many of the companies did a huge amount investment in WCEM including mine, there are definitely pro-cons comparing WCEM with Hybris (Its not all about look and feel) I believe. And I want to believe that this investment is worthwhile.
Coming to a point now, what next ? We have got CRM on-premise and there is not much of it used today in our business, but there is huge opportunity to CRM to grow here. So is it worth building the blocks of Marketing, Sales, Interaction Centre on CRM 7.0 or should we start investing our resources On-cloud/On-demand SAP Cloud for Customer solutions. If it’s later, what are the limitation when compare to on-premise, I know this question is very wide, but for me and I guess, everyone out there need to know, how quickly and when we can get all the functionalities of on-premise with on-cloud or is theew an interim Hybrid solution integrating On-cloud (front end) with On-premise ??? What is the transition strategy of SAP ?? What happens to On-premise Customers ?? How secure is On-cloud?
There was a lot of buzz of this in Sapphire 2014, is Cloud the next big thing ?? If yes, can we have a SAP road map for this solution and how much will this solution support when compared to CRM on-premise solution.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
MMMHi MMM,
Yes this product from SAP is indeed beautiful. You should also learn about SAP JAM in case you're not aware.. SAP JAM would definitely erase all earlier notions that SAP products can't look sexy
Regarding strategy of SAP, with the amount of time Cloud solutions are getting in SAPPHIRE, I can guess that the product is here to stay & SAP is coming out with new features & industry specific modules on a quick pace..
Now coming to your query on using C4C as a standalone solution.. Yes it can be used provided you utlise marketing features only.. For sales, it would lead to opportunity win/loss stage & for service tickets, it would end as "work completion"
Unlike SAP CRM, you cannot create sales/service orders or create invoices in C4C.. This is a 'line of business' solution.. Now the "popular CRM cloud solution" I talked about before also can't make invoices or sales orders except maybe through apps which needs to be customised & configured.
I had a query on CRM, while invoices are created, is financial settlement also taken care by SAP CRM on-premise or you need to integrate with ERP Fi-CO?
Now coming to your last query on SAP C4C for customers who aren't in SAP landscape. We specificaly did an integration with non sap BW for a major chemical company using middleware and the results are quite good.. I'll encourage you to go through several blogs posted by mentors which can help you to understand C4C capabilities.. I found this document to be quite useful.

I have an IMac running OS X 10.9.1.
I purchased a new 4TB G-Drive. After installation with Time Machine the drive correctly made backups for about 2 weeks. I installed Maverick.
Then I began to see the message “Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder”
I called G-Technology. Using the erase function of Disc Utility we received the message “Disk erase failed. Disk Erase failed with the error: Couldn’t unmount disk”. It was determined that the disk was bad and I returned it to the vendor.
A second and then a third disk experienced similar failures after only two backups. G-Technology then said the problem was a computer problem
I called Apple support and allowed them access to my computer. After their intervention the disk worked for two backups and then failed.
I purchased a 1 TB G-Drive yesterday.
I thought I would give it a test and so I made it the backup drive for time machine. It made a primary backup and has been continuing to back up without the feared error message.
I went to the internet and have discovered that my problem has been experienced by others. It only occurs after an upgrade to Maverick.
It also only occurs with a Firewire connection.
The new drive has a USB connector. It works fine.
What next?Which iMac (please be very specific) and also why have you not updated to 10.9.2?

Unable to update, restore or recover. Slider doesn't slide and number pad doesn't work for passcode. What next? Worked last night . Battery charged. When I push Home button I get my backgroung but can't slide slider. Device is recognized by iTunes.Help! Thank you.
Besweet, I'm having the very same problem with 60GB colour which was bought new and worked for 6 months before suddenly just not being recognised by PC. I hadn't changed anything at all.
I've followed all troubleshooting advice and reinstalled and updated iTunes and iPod updater software but all troubleshooting routes seem to hit the dead end of either the need to access the iPod via the PC (which isn't possible as it's not showing up at all) or the iPod in disc mode stuck at "ok to disconnect".
It's still under 1yr warranty so will have to take to a dealer.
I'm sorry that's not much help for you but at least you know it's not a unique problem.

I can't sign in or out of iCloud. Forgot the password to an email address I no longer have access to. What next? From what I'm reading in the forums, once the email address is set up it cannot be changed. True? If so, um, stupid.
Message to log in to iCloud every time I reply or forward an email. Have to indicate to ignore every time. Annoying.Hello florabb,
You may be able to change or reset the password on this old iCloud/Apple ID account, even if you no longer have access to the email address associated with it. Once the password is changed/updated, you should be able to log your iPhone out of the old iCloud/Apple ID account and log in to the correct new account. You may find the information and steps outlined in the following articles helpful:
If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
Sign in with a different Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

My Ipod mini syncs, but when I go to play, no sound. I've tried multiple speakers and headphones. No Go. What next?
My latest problem is that the Apple site will not recognize my equipment by it's serial number. I know the mini is old, but I like what it did for me and don't necessarily want to "upgrade".This is the iPad in the Enterprise forum. You'll be more likely to get help with your issue if you ask in the appropriate iPod forum.

Just tried to update my iPad 2 to the current iOS, and I got an error that said the update wouldn't install. The iPad is stuck in a funny mode with the apple and spinning wheel showing. I can't power it down or restart it. What next? Thanks.
Try a hard reset: hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
