When client crashes...

Hi
I've a server program and a client program (RMI). In the client I've a method to disconnect from the server using server.unregister(this) and UnicastRemoteObject.unexportObject(this, true). This works fine, but when I eliminate the client using Windows TaskManager, I can't start the client program again on the same PC.
How do I solve this problem? Is there a way to let the server release the dead client(s)?

well if you kill the client via tskmgr then of course the Server will think it still alive, cos it wont have done any cleanup....
the only thing you can do it build a "ping" routine into the client and server...... if a client doesn't ping the server within your time period then automatically unregister and export the client.......
it's simple keep alive routine most network programs use......

  • Clients Crash When Connected. REALLY ODD!

    Server : System PowerMac G4 running Server 10.4.9
    Clients : (2) Mac Pros running 10.4.9
    Problem : When clients are connected to the server and browsing via the finder. The clients finder windows crash. This problem occurs when all the icons and information is loading about the files in the folder.
    The system is on a gigabit network. The only file protocol the server is using is AFP. The data on the server in question was moved onto the server from a OS9 client.
    Troubleshooting :
    1. Another G4 system implemented as a server with a fresh install of 10.4.9 server. Data moved over. Problem still present.
    2. Data moved directly to Mac Pro (A). Client has no problems accessing data on local drive. When Mac Pro (B) connects to Mac Pro (A) via network Mac Pro (B) finder windows crash when accessing Data on Mac Pro (A).
    3. New gigabit switch removed and replaced with known good 10/100 switch. Problem still exists.
    4. Enet cards downgraded on MacPros to run at 100. Problem still exists.
    5. Fresh OS installs on MacPros. Problem still exists.
    6. Diskwarrior ran. No major problems found.
    Not sure if it matters but allmost all of these are design files done on OS9 ( Adobe / Quark ).
    Any ideas regarding this would be greatly appericated.

    I have a 30 GB version of the same. I also got some external speakers for it, UBL I think they are called. I find there is something very odd about whether you charge it up or not. It seems to over-charge sometimes, and then everything freezes. As for connecting to the PC, no chance. After an initial burst on another machine, and after installing itunes on this computer, there is no recognition of the one by the other at all. Plus freezing and locking up. Plus freezing the PC as well, it is very tedious. So no answers, only commiserations. I think Apple are doing a very poor job on this ! And their help facility seems quite hopeless !

    Hi all,
    I have a strang issue with GroupWise: when a user clicks on the reply button and there are more then 5 recepients, the GroupWise client crashes.
    With less then 5 people are on the recepien list kt works fine.
    Environment:
    - XenDesktop VDI
    - Citrix PVS image streaming
    - RES Zero Profiling
    - Windows 7 x86

    Which build of the client are you running? Look in Help, About..
    Does it work properly under WebAccess?
    What is the backend? SLES or Windows? Versions?
    Can you try connecting with a physical machine as the client so that we
    can isolate if it has something to do with the VDI bits.

    This is for every user and it works with webaccess. The backend is Novell OES2.
    It works fine on a physical machine.
    Any ideas?

  • Client Crashes when Creating New Email

    I have a few users that are having this problem.
    Whenever they try to create a new email, either from "Reply" or from "New Mail", Groupwise crashes.
    This problem only occurs locally. If I delete their Windows profile and create a new one, it goes away. If another user logs into that computer, it works. If the affected user goes to another machine, it works.
    Once the problem starts, it will do it every time they try to create an email.
    I uninstalled Groupwise Client, cleaned out the registry, and reinstalled it. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat. I gave the user local admin rights. Only killing the profile is temporarily working. It does come back eventually, usually within a month. I have not been able to link it to a specific email or file attachment.
    All of our machines are running Windows XP SP3. We did have this problem with SP2 as well. They are also running MS Office Vista, Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, and Symantec AV Endpoint 11.
    Here is the error message when it crashes:
    "Novell Groupwise Client has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience."
    Followed by:
    "The instruction at "0x53667831" referenced memory at "0x03c32500". The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program"
    The error recorded by Event Viewer is:
    "Faulting application grpwise.exe, version 7.0.3.1068, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.5755, fault address 0x00010f20"

  • 10.4.8 Server Crashes/Locks up when client search it

    OK.
    Server was updated from 10.2.8 - 10.4.8
    The machine is a Single G4 Slot Loading Xserve. We've added another 1 GB RAM (total is 2 GB) and removed both Hard Drives and installed larger ones (after market but matching as Apple stopped selling their drives to suite and we were told by Apple this was OK to do).
    There are two main issues:
    1. The first, and most pressing is the G4 Xserve crashes/Locks up with a black screen when clients try to search for files on it's shared folders. We ran a permissions repair yesterday and the technician did a search and it was fine. Then today the clients searched for a file, using command "F" and the Server has locked up again.
    2. Second issue is, sometimes the clients won't automatically log into the Server when they start up. We've removed them and re-added the shares previously with no change. The other issue which we think is related is the Server randomly 'disconnects" with the message saying "unable to find server"
    We are getting the following message in the log which I think is related. I've been unable to find any information about it. The log is:

    I've experienced the same problem. My users can chown by ssh'ing to AFP server of file in question but can't in Terminal perform chown on same file logged in to localhost by default.
    This subverts ACLs' usefulness in at least the respect that allowing group members to change ownership of files served in accordance with AFP is rendered unduly complex. One might as well not try that setting--for most clients, anyway.

    In this thread, though, can anyone comment on this or suggest how my users can invoke their ACL permission as members of a certain group to chown files on AFP shares in a local shell or--imagine this--in the "Get Info" interface?

    Firefox automatically updated when I turned computer on - 9 Sept - but repeated attempts to start M'soft Outlook resulted in calendar screen showing for a second then Outlook crashed. Eudora email client crashed when attempting to send emails. Tried rebooting, but same result. On 10 Sept selected System Restore and restored to 8 Sept restore point, Outlook and Eudora now operate normally.

    Did you install Bluetooth on your computer? If yes, please remove it and test the issue again.
    Please also make sure you remove all instances of the Lync 2013 Security Update KB2817465.
    If the issue persists, please past the entire log or message when Lync client crashes so that we know which file cause the issue.

  • Leopard 10.5.1, ARD 3.2.1, double click on client, client crashes!!!

    I have the strangest thing going...ARD Admin 3.2.1 launches, I get my list of clients.
    I double click on a client to control ( double click set to control, not observe)
    the window for the client opens to a black window. I do not see the desktop
    of the client, just black. I close the window, and soon as I do, the client crashes,
    and goes to offline.
    This is the second weirdness I've had with ARD 3.2.1 under Leopard 10.5.1.
    My Leopard install was an update, not an Archive and Install on my MBP.
    I plan on trying that, as I'm still having the other issue occur randomly,

    but any thoughts or is anyone else having the same issue?

    I'm not even sure if my problems are the same as anyone else's. I don't get specific errors, but Mail, Safari, Transmission, Full Tilt Poker App, and anything that uses the network causes my MacPro to behave like my crappy old PC. I get rainbow ball of death constantly and have to PowerCycle at least 3-8 times a day depending on how often I use my network.
    Won't automatically crash, but Mail just stops out of the blue, Safari will become unresponsive when loading a plugin like flash (YouTube for example), transmission will just stop, same with all net-based apps.
    Only error I get through Activity Monitor is that the UserAgent(something) is not responding and is red.
    I need my bootcamp, and Time Machine is too useful. I need a fix very soon!! Anyone else going through this?

    I want to know why Presenter erase all MP3 files if Powerpoint crash ?
    step by step...
    1- Someone came in my studio and record his presentation.  I took him 2 hours.
    2- When finish, I click "save" and close the recording windows.
    3- Back in Powerpoint, I click the save button of Powerpoint... and... Powerpoint crash.
    4- In windows explorer, I see the Powerpoint and the folder create by Adobe Presenter for the audio files with all the MP3 in that folder.
            -"Yes, everything is there"
    5- I re-open the Powerpoint of the client.
    6- Click on modify to see if all the audio are there
    7- Haaaaaaaaa, no audio.
            -"Ok, I just have to reimport all the MP3 one by one"
    8- I try to do that and.... Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... the folder with all the audio has been deleted by Presenter !!!!  I lost all the audio !!!!!!
    Ok,  that's not what really happen.  Because I know that sometimes Adobe Presenter decide for me that it want to delete ALL my audio files.  So after step 4 (before re-open the Powerpoint of the client) I made a backup of the folder that contains all the mp3.
    Can someone tell me why Presenter decide to erase all audio files when it crash or when it has a problem ????
    If I did not make a backup, I would have lost all the work of the client...

    All the 60 slides of my client have a name that doesn't match with the slide.  So because Adobe Presenter crashed et erase all the audio files, I have to re-import them slide by slide.  But with all those bizarre name, I have to listen each files and find the good slide that match with them.  why the mp3 don't have a name that match the slide number.  It would be very very very easiest !!!!!!!!!!

    What version of Presenter are you using? I know this was a bug with Presenter 7.0.0, and maybe 7.0.1. I've not heard of it happening since then, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. It may be worth a discussion with Adobe Support about what happened and why Presenter would delete your audio files. You can reach them at 800-945-9120.
    As to you other post, I did reply to it, but Presenter's functionality can't be changed. When you publish the presentation the audio files that are created do have a naming convention that associates them with the slide they are on, but in the build phase, it uses some cryptic method that I've never been able to figure out. So, for that reason, as well as a handful of other non-Presenter related reasons, I've taken to just using an Audio recording/editing application to deal with my audio, and then importing to Presenter. This allows me more control over the naming convention, as well as more control over the quality and settings used to record and/or encode the audio. It may seem like more work at first, but I feel like I can get through the audio portion of Presenter faster when I use a tool built for audio. Just remember to save or split your audio into individual files for each slide. Name them sequentially and then you can import them all at once into Presenter by selecting the first slide you wish to import to, browsing to the audio files and selecting them all for import.

    Check the even viewer for details.
    Generally, a crash of windows or windows services is a problem of windows. It must not crash. You may have to repair your windows installation or the network stack. Check a microsoft forum for instructions.

    I want something just like DBMS_LOCK. I think locks owned by one client could be released when the client log off normally or abnormally.What a very odd requirement. Why would you require a client "B" to be able to see what client "A" has inserted if client "A" is not yet ready to commit business-wise to that inserted data?
    1. You're right client A would have to commit inserted rows for client B to see them.
    2. Why is client A choosing to discard rows that he was already happy for client B to see? What if client B is acting upon those rows? That would suggest that client B can take action upon something that is not yet truly committed in the business process. This sounds like a serious flaw in the business process and hence the database design.
    3. If client A crashes, how is anything supposed to know about that? Client A can't send a signal/message to say "I've crashed" and just because client A hasn't performed activity doesn't necessarily mean that it's crashed, so how does anything know client A has crashed? As previously mentioned, the database server doesn't call out to all clients to check they are alive, that's not the way client server architecture works. Server's don't talk out to clients.... it's clients that talk in to servers.
    If there were any logical reason for trying to implement something as bizarre as the above, the closest thing you could have would probably be some sort of "keep alive" signal that client A sends periodically, whether that's through the client application automatically sending something to the database on a timer or whether it's an interactive thing with the user so that they have a countdown timer or something on the screen and have to perform some activity on the client to indicate that they are still alive. Then you'd have something running periodically on the database as a scheduled job, to check for any "clients" that haven't sent their "keep alive" signal in time and remove any data from the intermediate table related to that client. Of course there's a potential delay (determined by your implementation) between a client crashing (or user being inactive) and the associated data getting deleted, but that's the price you pay for implementing something so unusual.

    On client crashes, the JMS Server cleans up the related artifacts on the server. Is there a way we can tie a listener to be notified on client crash?
              We have an application which does further cleanup on client crash.

  • What did I do wrong? I used to have iTunes installed on this computer and lost it when it crashed. No I can't get past a certain point in the installation point. I keep getting an error message stating that I need to verify that I have access to this file

    Help!! What's going wrong here. I used to have iTunes installed on this computer but lost it when it crashed. I've tried re-installing it numerous times but I keep getting the same error message. "Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles\iTunes.Resources\es.lproj\iPadLicense.rtf. Verify that you have access to that directory." I know I have access to that directory because on a different computer I can sync my iPad and iPhone. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to go in and authorize or turn on? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
    XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
    Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
    Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
    Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
    Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

    If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
    Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

    So, I'm using a Windows 8 computer, & when it crashes, it closes altogether & it's really annoying having to reload my session, but when I was using a Windows 7 computer, Firefox hardly ever closed altogether when it crashed- all it did was freeze.     No, there isn't a way you can choose what Firefox does when it crashes. It crashes for a reason. But we can see what's causing those crashes.
