When I import my media it breaks apart my folder structure

Strange thing started happening and I'm not sure what changed.  The way I organize my media is in a folder tree like this:
- Client
  - Project
    - Exports
    - Elements
    - Raw Media
       - Shoot day 1
          - Card 1
          - Card 2
       - Shoot day 2
         - Card 1
         - Card 2
Normally I just import my my raw media folder for that project into premier and folder structure stay intact but now it's not.  it gives me the folder that I import and then all the clips but I loose the other folders for day and card.  It's a particular pain in the *** because the project was shot on a Sony FS700 and the 700 does do distinct file names.  Every time to start a new card it starts on with 00000.  Anyone have a clue on how I can fix it?

Well I do something similar. But I start at Project.
On the Hard drive I just Ingest / Import the camera card  structure from and including the Folder "Private">.mts"
I just  Import the .mts files to a Bin in the Project Window that has the same naming protocol as on the HDrive. eg Day1 >Card 1 etc...
No problems ever.
and the 700 does do distinct file names.
I think you meant "does NOT do..."

  • How do I relink my video files when the source files are located in an AVCHD folder structure?

I am using FCP X 10.1.1 and I was completely done with editing a simple multicam video for a choir track and when I was exporting it it failed. I re-opened FCPX and found that there are several missing files, when I had just been working with them just a second ago! I know about relinking video files, but when I try to locate the source files (knowing where they are), the browser will not let me select ACHD file contents to get at the video files. Also, I cannot open the Library file for my project either.
    Here is a snap shot:

If it comes down to it, use clip wrap to carve your .mov files out of the SD. I am confused tho - if you were originally able to import all you needed and still have the original media ? Why can't you do it again to add other clips? To "get in" to your Library, control click on it>show paskage... but do NOT MOVE anything only copy.
Perhaps soeone else can shed light on this?

  • Using cs3. Clips dropping frames.  When I import m2t video from my focus inhancements fs-4hd

The 2 gb. limit creates several clips and the clips don't join together correctly. the end of each clip is missing 4 frames of audio and 1 frame of video. This makes it impossible to sync to video tracks together. Am I alone with this problem? Would Cs5 correct it?

Yes exactly.  Using the original files to edit with can make your editing process verrryy slow especially on a laptop.
Forget about H.264 for editing- a good codec for other purposes but not for editing in Final Cut.
Don't worry about losing image quality when you import and transcode into ProRes  - you aren't 'sacrificing' image quality, you're only converting (transcoding) into this codec to edit with-- to make editing faster and more efficient on your CPU... This is what he means by that.  The original files will still be there - don't worry they won't be slaughtered
ProRes is the most FCP friendly codec for editing - it's an Apple codec that gives you high playback quality without using a ton of CPU, and was pretty much designed for FCP. You should find that transcoding your material into this codec will eliminate the sluggishness you've described.
FCPX gives you the option for ProRes optimized or ProRes proxy when you import your media - both are good for your purposes, but proxy is probably the best for you since you are on a laptop .  Fastest to edit with, with slightly less image quality (again - only while editing!)
Then, whenever you're done editing and are ready to export back into high quality - just go into your preferences menu and click Original/optimized media and it will switch over for you.  You can then export in high quality.
FCPX as much as I hate it - makes the transcoding procress very easy.
    good luck.
the original media will still be retained, all you have to do is click a button when you are done editing and export your project with high quality media at the very end.

  • Second camera lost in breaking apart clip items

    Hi there,
I did some syncing with two camera's and separate audio (Using Plural Eyes 3.5 (why does it on a Mac does not recognise MP4?)).
Made a Compound clip from it.
Now, when I double click I zoom into the compound clip and see my two camera clips perfectly synced so I can choose (I am not using multicam here),
BUT when I hitShift-Command G for breaking apart clip items. I only see one camera 1 (on storyline).
Note, when I zoom in (rubble click) on the compound clip; I see that the camera clips of camera 2 are bundled in a compound.. maybe that has something to do with it?)
    Thx already!
    Stephan

Thx.. can't figure out the issue I described. Tried it again and now it does work.
Regarding Plural eyes I have a screenshot. Its 4K footage form Lumix GH4. What I do is simply change the name to .mov and it works. Shouldm't be necessary though.
    thx!

  • Retaining folder structure on imported photos.

Thank you for reading this.  I just purchased an Ipad to be used as a sales device for our design team.  I have a folder of thousands of pre sorted and categorized pictures on my PC desktop that i want to import to the ipad while retaining the folder structure organization i have made.  When i try to import them, it sorts all the pictures off of date while seemingly ignoring my folder structure.
For instance, we sell swimming pools so i have my photos broken into several categories such as free form, rectangular, stone decks etc...  I want the ipad to break those folders into a separate gallery for each folder containing pictures so we can browse them in the way i have organized them.
Anyone have any insight into this process?
    Scott

However, unless I want to start over, the LR tutorial advises that, as a catalog has no upper limit, there should be no reason to create a new one.  Is there a reason to create multiple catalogs and if so what is it?
The only reasons in my mind are if you have completely non-overlapping subject matter (like business and personal). Otherwise, one catalog is the way to go.
In your case, following 99jon's advice, creating a new catalog is meant to replace the incorrect catalog that you previously created, so in reality, you have only a single catalog (the new one), you won't be using that first catalog you created ever again.

  • My music is on a nas loaded by Windows Media Player in WAV. When I import into Itunes only the songs appear no album name etc.

My music is on a nas. Loaded using windows media player in WAV.
When I import into Itunes only the record apears, no Album name etc
How can can I see all the details

Information is often stored as tags embedded in the file.  WAV does not support tagging. I don't know how WMP works but iTunes keeps its own database about media.  For many audio formats, track information will be stored both in iTunes' database and in the file itself as tags.  With formats such as mp3 most tags (not all) will 'travel' with the file when copied.  This does not happen with WAV where the information is only stored in the player application's database.

  • Premier 3.02 crashes when breaking apart transferred slide show

Following the instructions in a reply on the PS Elements forum, when I right click on the scene transferred from PSE to Premier Elements and right click in the menu to break apart the slide show for additional editing, after receiving a "low system memory" warning Premier eventually crashes. The error message is "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe PE to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
    I'm running PE 3.02
    Vista Business
    3.00GB RAM
Video card AT1 Radeon HD 3450
    54.3 GB free disc space
No browser or Outlook is open and have even closed PS Elements before trying to break apart the Premier scene slide.
I have had no problems, warnings, or crashes constructing a 30 minute slide show in PS Elements.

    Gina,
    >Open Premiere then try to begin my project in from Photoshop and get the same issue. The message from Windows says shut down due to serious error.
It is not clear to me WHEN the failure occurs in this scenario. Does Premiere Elements start up OK? Can you open a new project in Premiere Elements? And does it then fail when you have do the Send of the Slideshow from Premiere Elements?
Or like the original poster on this thread, does it fail only when you attempt to Break Apart the slide show?
And also - have you deleted or moved or renamed any of the photo files or video files included within that slide show?
A more general question - have you previously done any projects successfully in Premiere Elements?

  • I have material shot on a new camera in 16x9.  When I import it into FCPX the media is "squished" into 4x3.  How can I get it to look right?

    I have material shot on a new camera.  It's a Panasonic AG-HPX250EJ.
According to the clip properties of the media on the camera the footage was shot 16x9 at a frame rate of 50i
    The format is DV25_420
The problem is that when I connect the camera to the iMac via a USB cable and attempt to import the media into FCPX (I'm running version 10.0.1) it displays as 4x3.
    What am I doing wrong?
Needless to say I have a deadline looming for the edit and I'm rather tearing my hair out.

If problem persists after importing via FW
Select the clips in the event browser and in the inspector select INFO.
Ensure that the View bottom Left is set to SETTINGS.
You should be able to change the way FCPX interprets the clips via Anamorphic Override.

  • Sony DCR-HC30 --- footage in iMovie breaks apart upon import

    Hello,
I'm having trouble importing camcorder footage from my Sony DCR-HC30.
The footage plays fine in the camcorder but after I transfer it to iMovie, It breaks apart and the transfer stops.
I have successfully transferred footage from this camcorder into iMovie in the past.
I've tried a new firewire cable but it hasn't helped --- although at least
iMovie recognizes the camcorder now (with my old firewire cable it didn't)
Any assistance would be much appreciated
    Thanks very much!
    Mike

    Hi Sue,
I got the footage from my camcorder safely on board my PowerBook (and am backing up to an external hard drive even as we speak --- certainly nothing wrong with my stalwart and intrepid firewire port!)
    Woo Hoo!!!!!!!
I can now proceed with my project --- work on which came to a screeching halt several days ago...
    (It'll be on www.computershy.com)
Just as the import was starting from iMovie (during my many failed attempts) --- I briefly saw something like "importing QuickTime movie".
If iMovie was under the impression that it was importing a QuickTime movie from the camcorder, that would explain the distorted footage (but not why iMovie was having problems seeing the camcorder at all...)
I didn't see that message during the imports thad did work.
    I'm gettting a new camcorder
Thanks for all your help! You were there in my time of need!
    Mike

  • When I import a video I recorded to my laptop from my Iphone 5c  it won't play on window media centre or vec or any medium. Please help??? It plays perfect on the phone.

When I import a video I recorded to my laptop from my Iphone 5c  it won't play on window media centre or vec or any medium. Please help??? It plays perfect on the phone.

The format from the phone is :
h.264 encoded video, AAC audio. Both standards of MPEG 4.
You need Windows Media Player version 12 or above to play MP4 (or add the codecs to your current version).

  • When I drag a synchonised clip to timeline, can I turn off the video's audio track only without breaking apart clips?

I have preparred many clips by synchonising them with audio recorded on H4N - and have these in keywords.
When I drag them to the timeline, do I have to break apart each clip item to turn off the video's audio track or is there a shortcut to doing this?

For each clip you can go to the audio portion of inspector and uncheck/disable the tracks you don't desire. That would take longer than Tom's method, but I think the audio won't show up as a blank later on.

  • I Can No Longer Break Apart Clip Items??

For some reason, I can no longer drag a clip from the browser to the main timeline, then lift and then proceed to break it apart into a video and seperate audio tracks. I was doing this all the time, but now this option seems to have disappeared. I tried repairing permissions... I can access the components of the clip with the "open in new timeline" option after dragging down the maintimeline and lifting, but that still doens't explain why I can't choose or shortcut to break it apart in the main timeline, when lifted, anymore??? Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

Dustin, let me know if I haven't understood your post correctly.
You create a new project and set the frame rate to 23.98P
The media in your Events is 30P
From what I understand, your saying that if you drop a 30P clip in a 23.98P project, your unable to Break Apart Clip Items..?
    Works perfectly fine for me.

  • Breaking Apart Images and Bitmaps in Color Panel

When I break apart a bitmap and use the eyedropper to sample
it and then fill in a shape, I notice that the bitmap also stays in
the color panel as a bitmap. Will this become a permanent part of
my Flash installation or is it only accessible for this file? I
opened a new file and it did not seem to appear for it. I just want
to make sure I understand the purpose of it displaying in the color
panel. What is the point of this?
    Thanks.

Not sure I totally understand - the point is so you can pick
this swatch "color" again in this
document. If you delete the bitmap from the document's
library it will go away. If you open a new
doc it won't be there because the new doc doesn't contaqin
    any imported/broken apart/color-picked
    bitmaps.
I have to ask, what were you expecting to happen with this
particular swatch? Or rather, is there a
better workflow solution for you perhaps? Just curious.
