When i try to wake my macbook after sleep the keypad lights up but the screen stays black. I have to switch off and restart. How do I fix this?
After my Macbook goes into sleep mode it sometimes won't wake. The keypad lights up but the screen stays black. This problem has only occured after updating to OSX 10.7.2.
All I can do is switch off and restart. Then any programs I have not 'quit' all open.
OK, I have a fix.
After spending about an hour online with Apple Care without success, I did a reinstall of the Lion OS. It fixed the problem. I was concerned that I would lose data or settings, but the reinstall was seemless and everything was the way it was before the reinstall except that the "black screen on wake" problem was fixed.
I started the reinstall before I went to bed and it was waiting for me the next morning.
Here is a link to the page on how to do the reinstall:

Hope this helps.

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed. -

The first thing I did was UPDATE. I have all the latest updates available (according to the updater). The Camera Raw Plug-in says it is version 8.0.
The RAW files are from a Canon T3i. It's a very common camera, I can't believe it wouldn't be supported. -

My mac wont turn on. It is charging and the on light is on when the computer is shut but once I open it the light turns off and the screen is black. I turn it off and then on again and the start up noise goes but it is still black - Help!?
Claire, please post your machine specs as requested. There are some variants of the MBP with specific hardware issues. Example: the older "silver key" MBPs with 2.2Ghz and faster processors can have a defective video chipset that produces a black screen or distorted video. That problem is covered under an Apple program that will fix this at no cost to you if you computer is that model.
Do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click the "More Info..." button. That launches System Profiler for you. The first screen looks like this:
The second line, "Model Identifier" (or "Machine Model" if you are running OS10.4) precisely identifies your MBP variant. Post that, and include it in your equipment info in your profile for future posts. That means people don't have to ask, and you get faster help that is targeted to your specific model. Saves everybody a bunch of keystrokes and you get better advice. -
When I click on a link and I choose the option to open link in a new window, it opens behind the currently open window instead of in front of it. This is a real nuisance. Why is this happening, and how do I fix it?
Hi alanbala,
There are several possible reasons why the new window opens in the background and not in the foreground by default.
# another installed program is causing this
# the Firefox main window is set to Always on Top
# probably a Windows 7 bug
# possibly a Firefox bug [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790013 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790013]
What you can do is
# update your Windows 7 to the latest security patches
# open Mozilla Firefox in Safe Mode (see KB article [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]])
# evaluate the other programs installed on your computer
# open new links on a new tab
Let us know your progress. I will be following this support thread. -
Message reads: the required software is not installed. Remove iTunes and re-install. I have a pc with Windows XP. If I re-install iTunes, won't this erase all of my data from iTunes?
No, reinstalling iTunes will not remove iTunes data. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

I loaded the latest OS X software and I keep getting an error indication when I put in my password. If I shut it down completely and reboot it goes to a page with my login and guest login. If I click on my picture I enter my computer. I try to reset my password and it doesn't recognize my old password.

I have no idea how to do that. Can you help me?
Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and select your volume and then select Repair Permissions. Same directions are also in the OS Mac Help Menu. -
Hi I hope someone can help....when my husband bought his new Iphone 4, I set it up on our computer for him. However, his phone has taken on my identity for his apple ID. How do I seperate the two phones and make them both personal?
To avoide these kinds of problems my wife and I each have our own Apple ID. We also set up different user accounts on the computer we use to sync our devices.
In my wife' sac count iTunes is signed into her Apple ID and in my account iTunes is signed into my Apple ID. We also have individual music purchases etc.
One more thing that avoids confusion is to give each phone a unique name. When the phone is connected to the computer and iTunes is running on the computer double click on the phone's name in iTunes. Then type in a unique name. Mine iPhone has my name and hers has her name plus the iPhone 5 identifier.
To remove your Apple ID from your husbands phone I suggest resetting the phone and erasing all content. Then start over with the setup process. Be sure to back up any photos your husband took with his phone before you erase it. -
Why does the screen turn black? I was using it normally and it all of a sudden faded to black and hasnt come back on since yesterday. You can see the back light but no image on the screen. Ive plugged it in and it vibrates that its connected but still the screen stays black. I left it alone while I slept and tried again in the morning but still nothing.
So weird mine is doing the same thing. I didnt drop it or anything. I was texting and it suddenly went white and then turned black. It says its plugged into itunes but the screen comntinues to stay black.

Macbook Pro:
When I raise the lid after sleeping, the screen comes on momentarily then backs out. If I close the lid and raise it again, the same thing happens. It is sometimes necessary to force quit. Once restarted, there is no problem unless the lid is closed for a short time and the machinge goes to sleep.

My MacBook Air 2012 turns on an the key board lights up however the screen stays black but when I shine a torch through the apple sign on the back you can see the login is there a way to fix this??
1. Press the F2 key couple of times.
2. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
3. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.

When I try to load an update for aperture 3.0, I get an error message " you need 3.0 or later loaded". I have V3.1.2 loaded. How can I fix this?
ThanksIs your Aperture application installed in your "Applications" folder, or did you move it to a subfolder? If you moved it, put it back into the "Applications" folder. Also check the name. If you renamed it, change the name back again to simply "Aperture" without any additions. Otherwise will the updater not recognize your current installation.
