When my phone is charging and I get a call I cannot answer it unless I unplug it is this right?  As this has never happened to all the other iPhones ive had

I understand that you are unable to hear callers though the receiver on your iPhone 4 unless you change the sound to the speaker. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article and verifying that the troubleshooting steps have been completed.
