described? As I mentioned, the Thread is added to a ThreadGroup when it is created. In your case the thread can be cleaned up when the Threads has been removed from the ThreadGroup.
I'm not really sure. Won't there need to be a new thread per request, If you can use one thread to send all the replies (which also need to be serialised) what is special about the requests that they need their own threads. How is the serialization of the requests so fundermentaly different?
otherwise how will the thread get the object to be serialized,I don't see how the objects are serialized and how you use your threads are releated???
or is a setRequest(someRequest) on the thread from the model OK to do.I would use another thread that the GUI thread to send requests and recieve replies.
I was somewhat leery of calling a setter from the model on an already running thread. I would call the setter for the GUI thread.
How you do this is:
- Read reply using the thread reading replies.
- Add a Runnable to the GUI Thread to set the values via SwingUtilities.invokeLater()

Will iPhoto collection be automatically migrated to new Photos app when it replaces iPhoto?

If history is any guide, and I'm not saying it is or it isn't, the new application will likely import your old photo libraries or access them directly.
However, as with all upgrades, we have to wait and see. None of us have a crystal ball into the future.
Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it.

With full understanding the current (as of Dec 2012) iTunes U policy allows for only:

I am having to use safari to access even here. mozilla firefox and its mail application thunderbird are not en tirely compatible with OS X VoiceOVer.

When will a new version of the 7D be released? Or, will there be one?

I got my Canon 7D just after it came out. It has been out a very long time and now seems "behind" in features compared with some of the features of other recently released Canon EOS cameras. When will a new version of the 7D be released? Or, is this the end of the product cycle and there will be no more 7D cameras? I have been looking forward for a long time to getting a new version to replace my current one... in the past have gotten, right after release the 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D 7D - but they were always coming out about 18 months or so apart.

I am more sure, than not sure, there will be a new version of the 7D out soon. The 7D is a wonderful camera and I can't imagine the "new" one will out do it by much in the photo taking category. It will probably have other great features, though.

I'm a web designer. The question I have is if anyone knows when Safari will support WOFF typefaces? I know that webkit does in its current build, but when will Apple implement it?

Hey Marko. There was a nightly build of Safari released on August 12, 2010 that did in fact support WOFF. As you probably know, in spite of a major system update (v. 10.6.5) three months later, on November 11, 2010 and a discrete Safari update (v. 5.0.3) made available on November 19, 2010, Safari still does not support woff. My experience is with the iPhone 4S and the "new" iPad, both of which I ordered early on the opening pre-order day. In both cases the wording from Apple during the media event was "pre-orders will start on ABC date for delivery on XYZ date" which was also the same day they were to go on sale in stores. In both cases, the UPS truck rolled up earlier than usual XYZ date as promised to hand me my new iPhone/iPad. In both cases there were instances of confusion due to some pre-order confirmations stating incorrectly "SCHEDULED SHIPPING DATE: XYZ". In both cases that caused much fear, panick, and trepidation that fed upon itself as it permeated a widely scattered forum linked community of "adults" that seem to collectively revert to a state of childish impatience and ultimately child-like glee as they obsessively refresh their dedicated tracking browser window; become convinced that there is no hope of escaping the dread delayed shippment, and then finally receive their new toy exactly when they were supposed to. Not that I personally would ever succumb to that of course. Er uhm ... it's just what I've seen you know .. nothing I can really relate to.

When I see the new Apple products, be it Retina notebook, ipad or imac, I get angry.
I don't need and don't want a product which sacrifies environment for design.
When will Apple again be avantgarde and design recyclable, reusable and upgradable products?
The stuff I'm seeing frightens me. I stick to Apple since 1993. I've gone through the lows and highs.
What I'm seeing now makes me think to move to a Windows/Linux PC for political reasons. And I really do hate standard PC's.

This is, of course, right. Sad enough.
What I want to say is that Apple goes backwards instead of forward in terms of sustainability. Previous Macbooks were modular, upgradable and better recyclable. The latest products from Apple, all above the retina notebooks, are produced to be trash after 2-4 years. The new imac seem to be just this, too. Who the **** needs a slimmer imac? The display can't be disassembled, the battery can't be changed, many things are glued and/or soldered without any flexibility. Don't get me wrong, Apple products are great, usually work well and are simply beautiful. I work with them since 1993. But along with Apple's intentions to user data collection and latest design directions I start having a problem with it.
But why do I read more objections in the forum instead of support in the same direction? Our opinion matters! And Apple DOES read these user-to-user talks.
Apple is now the big guy. They earn tons of money. They are the worldwide leader, they get all the attention, they have responsibility! They could be the one producing the greenest hardware ever. Particularly with the retina display I would wish to have the possibility to upgrade all the components using the same housing/display/power supply. This display won't be obsolete for the next 10 years.
Imagine what this could save. Imagine what marketing message this would be to the community. Apple could only win. They would lose possibly one lifecycle's display/housing margin, but could compensate this on the replacement components while getting the world's applause.

When Will Samsung Verizon or who ever is really in charge of screwing up thousands and thousands of cell phones going to be fixed?

So if it is Samsung, Verizon or Google that is the reason behind the screwed up update that was full of bugs that just are creating havoc and destroying phones, then when are they going to fix it. I know another month like this and I will have to pay to cancel my contract because I can not successfully run a business using a phone that Verizon and Samsung screwed up. They seem to know this is an important issue and causing a PR nightmare for Verizon, but when will there be a fix? I need my phone. Pretty soon my (removed) garbage phone won't even be able to call 911 for help because I am sure the update fudged that up too. Why should I pay for a phone that does not work, I held up my end of the contract why can't Verizon hold up their end of the deal on a contract THEY wrote?

I also have questions about the Samsung Galaxy Note II. I stopped in the Verizon store & they couldn't give me much help, they had to make a call to find out the "how to's" I tried to watch videos on you tube, but that took way too much time. I know this phone is awsome, but I'm only using the basics, I don't want to click on things that are not free. I was told that NFL was a monthly charge, VZ navigator too.

Oracle SQL-92 Non compliance: When will oracle support empty strings?

Oracle is the only database on the planet that equates an empty string to a null value. For several major versions, Oracle has said "Make sure you don't rely on null and empty string equivalency because it could go away in the future." When will Oracle get with it and support this aspect of the SQL-92 standard (not to mention mathmatical logic)?

You log enhancement requests through Metalink.
The procedure is documented in Metalink document 166650.1 as follows:
How to Log an Enhancement Request:

On the Create a SR - Brief Description screen, in the Type of problem field, select Enhancement Request.
Important factors to remember when filling out the Enhancement Request Service Request template and creating the Service Request:
Fully describe why the current product functionality does not meet your needs.
Explain in detail the enhancement you would like implemented
If possible, describe how the product can be changed to achieve the desired results.
Describe your business expectations. Include key milestone dates and justifications as to why this request is so important and the benefits your organization stands to gain should this request be accepted.
Once your Service Request has been created, it will be assigned to a Support Engineer who will validate your information. In some cases, your request may be a new or known product defect that the Support Engineer can either provide a fix, a workaround, or introduce to Oracle Development for resolution. In other cases, you may be presenting a valuable product enhancement that can improve Oracle product functionality. In all cases, the Support Engineer will be able to qualify your request and pass along the information to Oracle Development.
Once the Support Engineer validates your request, and an agreed upon action plan is created, your Support Engineer will create a new Enhancement Request and provide you with an Enhancement Request tracking number. The BUG search tool on MetaLink can then be used to receive status updates.
Please note that the Support Engineer will close the SR once the enhancement has been logged.

The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed.

This problem has been reported to Microsoft by me and I was told "the developers are working on it." That was six months ago. I see posts going back a year saying the problem was reported to Microsoft Support.

you've had a couple of contacts with support.
If you provide case numbers, it would be helpful in escalating further. And more
specifically, it might help someone from Microsoft determine IF the issue has
been escalated. While Microsoft has been doing work on the wifi driver for
nearly the entire time since the SP3 was released, there is no information
anywhere as to whether this bug is known or not.
As you also know, I sent it in to the"right" people inside Microsoft and as you
also know, I did not get a response. (I'm an end user just like you even though
I'm a Community Moderator on the Surface Forum in Communities).
