Where do PATH and MANPATH definitions go for OSS12.4 in Solaris 11.2?

** Newbie alert **
Hello,
This link says what to add to PATH and MANPATH for a new Solaris Studio 12.4 installation
but not where to put the PATH and MANPATH entries (preferably for all users).
Setting Up Access to the Developer Tools and Man Pages - Oracle® Solaris Studio 12.4: InstallationGuide
Note that my "installation" consisted of downloading the appropriate Tarfile and then unpacking it - so this comment is confusing:
"If you did not enable the installer to create symbolic links in /usr/bin and /usr/share/man, you might    need to change your PATH   and MANPATH  environment variables to enable use of the Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4 software."
Another confusing entry in the Solaris 11.2 documentation says "the MANPATH definition is no longer required in Solaris 11".
Sincerely,
Kent

Hi Kent,
If you installed from the tar file you will need to add the directory to your PATH and MANPATH variables.   The steps are platform specific and are listed below:
On Oracle Solaris platforms
Add the path /install-dir/solarisstudio12.4/bin to your PATH environment variable.
Add the path /install-dir/solarisstudio12.4/man to your MANPATH environment variable.
On Linux platforms
Add the path /install-dir/oracle/solarisstudio12.4/bin to your PATH environment variable.
Add the path /install-dir/oracle/solarisstudio12.4/man to your MANPATH environment variable.
For a more detailed discussion PATH and MANPATH you can review the Solaris documentation on "Setting Environment Variables".  The location to that information is located here:
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19683-01/806-7612/customize-8/index.html
You might find this link helpful too:
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E36784_01/html/E36818/userconcept-39855.html#scrolltoc
Note - When you install from a tar file you cannot get support or patches for the product from Oracle. If you want such support you must use a package installer. See Chapter 2, Installing Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4 on Oracle Solaris 10 and Linux or Chapter 3, Installing Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4 On Oracle Solaris 11.
Also, if you haven't installed the latest Solaris 11.2 SRU then you will also need to install the required system libraries.   Here's a link to the instructions:

  • Fixing PATH (and MANPATH) once and for all

I think the list of directories in PATH should be:
    /Users/cb/bin:
    /opt/local/bin:
    /opt/local/sbin:
    /usr/local/bin:
    /usr/bin:
    /bin:
    /usr/local/sbin:
    /usr/sbin:
    /sbin:
    /usr/X11R6/bin:
    /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current
Do you agree? Comments and suggestions welcome.
    Background:
I am trying to sort thru the endless confusion and set up PATH (and MANPATH) right, once and for all. Every package I install seems to have its own idea of what these variables should be.
I could set up a wrapper script for every installed command - but some subsystems, like Aquamacs and Python, let you create and use subshells. If the PATH in your subshell isn't the same as the one you use every day in bash, you could create bugs which are nearly impossible to track down.
My solution is to create $HOME/.setShells.sh -- which sets a uniform set of paths (and which will probably rewrite man.conf in the bargain). But I want to make sure that I'm choosing the right baseline, which is what the list above is supposed to be.
I'd appreciate your thoughts and/or assistance.

Correct is what's correct for you. You have to consider and repect how the vanilla system sets up the environment, and realize that the software you install and configure to make the machine yours will be different for everybody.
Your list looks reasonable. Of course we all know that PATH is searched in the order listed, so your ~/bin takes precedence over everything, and stuff you install in /opt and /usr/local takes precedence over the vanilla system.
You don't need a wrapper for every command. Environment variables are inherited. You simply need to set this stuff up in your ~/.bashrc and everything you run from the shell will inherit the environment. I think PATH may be exported automatically, but it never hurts to do so explicitly. So set those variables with lines like ...
    export PATH=
    export MANPATH=
It's important to understand the subtle difference between executing a shell command file and sourceing it.
    bash# ./file
... will run the file in a subshell, so any variables and environment changes will only be known to the subshell. Your interactive shell is the parent process of the subshell.
    bash# . ./file
... will run the file in the current shell rather than forking a subshell, so any variables, functions, aliases, or environment changes will remain in effect.
When a shell starts, your ~/.bashrc is sourced, not executed.

  • Proper way to make bulk changes the Owner ID, Path and file share credentials for my existing subscriptions, ExtensionSettings

We are going through with an upgrade/migration to SSRS 2012 and moving everything to a different domain. We have about 200 active subscriptions running, the reports are being delivered to a file share.  What is the correct way, in bulk, to change
the OwnerId, the Path and the FileShare Username password credentials for these subscriptions?  I see these values are being stored in Subscriptions > ExtensionSettings.  I see that the file share path and Owner wouldn't be a problem to change,
but since I see the file share credentials are encrypted I would not be able change them directly in ExtensionSettings.  Anyone know the proper way to change the Owner ID, Path and file share credentials for my existing subscriptions without having to
change each one of them manually in the report manager?
Note: Reporting Services Native upgrade from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2012.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Cygnus46,
Based on my understanding, you want to change the Owner ID, Path and file share credentials for all existing subscriptions.
In Reporting Services, the subscription information are stored in the Report Server database. In your scenario, you can go to report server database and run the query to list all the subscriptions, then modify the owner and fileshare paths in the subscriptions
table. For more information, please refer to this article: Tip: Change the Owner of SQL Reporting Services Subscription. If you want to change
the file share credentials for subscriptions, you can run the query provided by
    wiperzeus from this similar thread:
    Windows File Share Delivery/ SSRS 2008 R2.

  • Where is Rescue and Recovery 4.50 for Windows 7 and why was it removed from the support site?

When Rescue and Recovery 4.51 was released a few weeks ago, all references to the previous version were replaced. Unfortunately, the new release is not supported on the R series machines nor on the earlier T series machines, so for those machines, the only version of Rescue and Recovery for Windows 7 that is available is version 4.30.0027 which was released in September 2009.
    This makes no sense.
Please re-instate the documentation and download links for Rescue and Recovery 4.50 for all machines which were supported on that release but are not on version 4.51.

    ThinkCenter A63 5237-CTO 3GB Ram Win XP; A21m and a pair of 380XD's

    Thank you for your response.
The R61 and the R500 that I own, that are currently running Windows XP are staying there until Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP, at which point I will decide what to do with them, so trying 4.51 on them is not currently an option.
As an IT professional, I tend to be the support guy for all the Lenovo computers in my family. My son also has an R500, which was purchased used, and it came with Windows 7. When I set it up for him, I installed Rescue and Recovery 4.5 over 4.3 before taking the original full system image backups.  He would loose the capability to use those backups if I were to try to downgrade that machine to Rescue and recovery 4.3. My own R500 came with Rescue and Recovery 4.30.0025, (for which there is no documentation nor download links available, to my knowledge), and I have never upgraded it, because I am concerned that all my backups would become unreadable if I did. I don’t think it is worth the effort to make all the external bootable backups that upgrading the software would require. I would upgrade if I was assured that version 4.30.0027 could read the backups taken by version 4.30.0025.
There were 2 more versions of Rescue and Recovery. There was version 4.31.007 released on 2010/09/28 and version 4.31.011 released on 2011/03/04. The document ID’s for release 4.51 are the same as those for the 4.31 releases, so I should assume that Lenovo considers the 4.31 releases a major advance over the 4.30 release, and thus not a valid fallback option but why not?

  • Where to upload and publish a quiz for Captivate?

    Hello everyone.
I may be asking really basic questions here but I really need help with this.
I have a quiz that I created for work and right now we are just in the testing phase.
I need everyone in my team to access this quiz and view it in html.
Can you please share with me a place I can host this file for free.
Also, I am aware about Adobe Connect, but they have a 30 day free trial period...I would like to publish it in a location that does not expire (at least not in 30 days).
I do not necessarily need to collect score results as it is the testing phase. But I would want everyone to be able to view all the interactions that take place in the quiz.
And see a quiz result when they take the quiz. Can someone please help me with this.
    Thanks!

  • Property and Property Definition for a Node

    Hi all,
While retrieving meta data for each node, I could not understand whether Property for a node represents meta data or Property Definition. Please provide a clear understanding and difference between the two.
Second, is there a predefined fixed set of Property and Property Definition for a node (for any given portal application)?
    Provide inputs.
    Thanks,
    Shakti

    Hi Shakti,
A node has two types of metadata -- the built-in system metadata such as node name, node path, node objectClass, create date, modified date, created by, etc -- visible via getXXX methods on the Node object, and the user-defined metadata.
The system metadata applies to all nodes regardless of ObjectClass (and also to nodes without any ObjectClass).
The user-defined metadata depends on the Node's ObjectClass. A node with no objectClass cannot have any user-defined metadata. A node with an objectClass can have the metadata defined by the ObjectClass's Property Definitions.
Suppose Node n has ObjectClass "StringType", and StringType ObjectClass has two property definitions -- StringVal (single-valued string), and BinaryVal (single-valued binary). In this case, Node n can have zero, one, or two user-defined properties from the set 'StirngVal' and 'BinaryVal'.
In short, a PropertyDefinition is a schema, part of the ObjectClass definition, whereas a Property is an instance of a PropertyDefinition attached to a node of the ObjectClass.

  • SQL Query for members of dynamic group - Need to include Name, Path and Type

    Hello,
I built a custom dynamic group that has all my SQL databases in it using SCOM 2012 SP1.  The group works fine as I can see the Name(ie, Database name), Health State, Path (ie, hostname/instance) and Types (ie; SQL 2005).  Now I'm trying to
build a custom report based off this same information using a SQL query.   I'm no DBA and could use some help.  So far this is what i have
    use
    select
    SourceObjectDisplayName as
    'Group Name',
    TargetObjectDisplayName,TargetObjectPath
    from RelationshipGenericView
    where isDeleted=0
    AND SourceObjectDisplayName
    like
    'SQL_Databases_All'
    ORDERBY TargetObjectDisplayName
This gets me the Group Name (which i really don't care about), database name, and hostname/instance. What I am missing is the Health State and most importantly the Type (ie, SQL Server 2005 DB, SQL Server 2008DB).
If someone could assist me here I would appreciate it. I believe I need to do some type of INNER JOIN but have no idea where the SQL type info lives or the proper structure to use. Thanks

  • Where to find screen and field definitions?

    Dear All,
I need to be able to find all the screen and field definitions that exist in the SAP Repository for an application I am developing.  Can anybody tell me where to find them?  I specifically need to know which field types are defined for each screen (GuiTextField, GuiComboBox, GuiTableControl, etc.) as well as their IDs as they appear in the SAP GUI.
Can anybody help with this?  I've looked all over and haven't been able to find out where this information is stored in the data dictionary.

The HUD Inspector in Full Screen View seems to position at the right margin of the image as a default(?)  If I toggle the button in the top right of the HUD it 'unlocks' and I can drag it to where I prefer -- at the left margin; (for over a decade) my dock has resided at the right margin so all my slider manipulation over countless editing sessions in Aperture has been ingrained to work at the left margin -- but, the vast majority of the time, the HUD overlaps the image I am editing in this 'unlocked' mode.
Every occasionally I enter Full Screen View and it positions on the left margin *without* superimposition...(!) My great joy is modulated into aggravation, however, should my tracking cursor drift all the way 'out of bounds' -- to call in the hidden pane of adjacent images sequenced in the library... This dramatically shrinks the Full Screen display and re-locks the HUD; if I toggle the switch to re-xpand the image it re-positions at the right margin!!!!  I SOOoooooo wish I knew how to control the default 'locked' margin of the HUD in Full Screen View...

Drag it over to the Left. Then lock it there.

The problem with those two apps is that they are supposed to be in your Apple ID and you didn't set up the Mac properly/completely when you got it.

  • Path and Name field in SPD 2010 Workflow for creating Doc Sets

    Hi Guys,
Here's hoping you can help out and give a few pointers. I'm currently trying to implement what I thought was quite a simple workflow involving the creation of a Content Type (similar to Doc Set but with additional field) within an alternative library when
a new item is added to the current library.
Create Item in CaseFileLibrary (Output to Variable: CaseFile)
When running the workflow, I keep getting the following error:
"The workflow could not create the list item because the file name is either missing or invalid. "
It seems to be related to the 'File and Path' field within the 'Create New List Item' field mappings. For this I have tried the CurrentItem:Title as some other forums suggest and have also tried entering the URL path e.g. /subsite_name/library_name/CurrentItem:Title.
(as the name of the CaseFile (Doc Set) is going to be the same as the current item name)
If anyone has any suggestions, I would be truely greatful.
    Luke

    Hi Luke,
This error indicates there is an error in the workflow logic. Ensure that the file name entered in the Path and Name field is a valid file name. Common reasons for a file name to be invalid include a missing or incorrect file extension or a file/path string
that is too long and exceeds the allowable number of characters.
More information, please refer to :
Common error messages in SharePoint workflow development
For the URL that you used in the ‘Create New List Item’, whether the CurrentItem:Title is a lookup, not typed by yourself. If not, please type /subsite_name/library_name/, then lookup CurrentItem:Title, like the below, then save and publish the workflow,
    compare the result.
In addition, please use another name for the name, compare the result.
