I have a text doc containing a little database.. I want to keep on my iPhone and read .. but I also need to search it. Does any App do this?

Now, I have several lines that begin with 'foo' and 'ZEN' Which make for one full paragraph, and in this paragraph there's a line that begins with 'DE4.2'. Therefore,
I need to write all paragraphs that include the line 'DE4.2' in their beginning and ending lines 'foo' and 'ZEN'

When I run this code I only get one line: DE4.2 I AM MISSING THE ENTIRE PARAGRAPH

Look at where you're calling utl_file.put_line. The only time you're writing anything is immediately after you find the the key word 'DE4', and then you're writing just that line.
You need to store the entire paragraph, and when you reach the end of the paragraph, write the whole thing only if you found the key word, like this:

SHOW ERRORSIf you don't have an EXCEPTION section, the default error handling will print an error message, spcifying exactly what the error was, and which line of your code caused the error. By using your own EXCEPTION section, you're hiding all that information. I admit, the error messages aren't always as informative as we'd like, but they're never less informative than "Unknown UTL_FILE Error'. Don't use your own EXCEPTION handling unless you can improve on the default.
Remember that anything inside quotes is case-sensitive. If your file contains upper-case 'FOO', then it won't be "LIKE 'foo%' ".

How do I read and write to text files on a remote computer's hard drive
I would like to read and write data to a text file on a remote computer. This is easily accomplished using one of the file functions such as "write characters to file.vi". If I am already connected to the remote computer, all I need to do is specify the path to the particular file and it will work fine.
My problem is that I want to connect to the remote computer programatically within LabVIEW (I do not want to have to use the computer's OS to establish the connection. Is there a function that I can use to do this?

Also, don't post the exact same question in multiple places. Or, if you must cross-post to some other forum, make sure to mention it in your question text.
I'm happy to be a brick in your Western Wall, but I'm not sure what the main objective is here. Is the main problem really getting access to the "X bytes received in Y seconds at Z bytes/sec" string? Or is it accomplishing the file transfer? And what OS and LabVIEW version are you running?
I think your problem is that you the LabVIEW System Exec command does not allow for the degree of interactivity that you need if you want to issue a sequence of commands to a command-line executable. However, under Windows XP (and, presumably, other Windows versions, though I can't check), you can tell the FTP executable to use commands from a textfile script by using the -s switch, and you can override the prompts during multiple file transfers with the -i switch:
ftp -i -s:FILEPATH SERVERNAME
If you issue a command in this format to System Exec, and make sure to create a file at FILEPATH with your command sequence (one per line), then you should at least accomplish the FTP actions. This won't give you the transfer details in the standard output, unfortunately. However, if you just want a general sense of how much was transferred and how quickly it happened, you can code that in LabVIEW by getting the resulting file sizes and using Tick Count before and after the System Exec call to see how long the transfer took.

thank you for the help. I should have said I had a iphone 3. A friend has the same phone and she showed me how she can see what web pages are open when she double taps the home button. Mine is set to bring up favourites when I double tap (chosen from settings>general>home button).. BUT my choices are only HOME; SEARCH; PHONE FAVORITES; CAMERA or IPOD. I changed my choice to HOME but that just defeats the purpose as when I am at the home page and double tap nothing happens. Am I making sense? -

ShrinivasIf you do a "where used" on READ_TEXT then you will find plenty of SAP methods that call it, so why not just call it directly yourself? If you do want a class wrapper around it, then it wouldn't take long to build your own "Z_CL_TEXT_HANDLER" class and associated methods.

Searching a text file and printing the line if found!
Hi, Im fairly new to JAVA and have been googling this for hours and havent found any results that
have helped me...
Im looking to search a text file for a value that is in a that is delimited by colons
eg 45787 : 398948 : 398884 : 398984
IF that value is found I need to print this entire line and move it into a string.
I can work out the delimit part, the problem for me is a)searching the text file
and b) tell java to print that line only??

A PDF usually consists of one to an indefinite number of clipping masks inside each other.
You need to be very carefull with selecting stuff.
So you need to read the manual on how to select stuff and on the basics of Illustrator.
On top of that: because of the complex hierarchy of PDF files, it is kind of difficult to help you without seeing anything. -

We have been sending images out to contractors, and sometimes when they come back the files are having this error:

When I then try to Photoshop Script the file info it throws errors. Does anyone know what causes this error to happen?

We use a lot of Photoshop Scripting, and the file info is how we direct all of our workflows. when a file comes back with "the file contains file info data which cannot be read and has been ignored" error, the scripts are unable to read/write to any of the file info ever again. So not only did we lose all the info already in the file, but we can't use the file at all after this.
Additonally, we tried copying and pasting to new blank documents, but realized we needed all the paths, channels, and sampler points too.
Is there anything anyone can think of to get around this probelm? A setting, or a program to fix the metadata, etc?

I have software disck "The Early Church Fathers" by Harmony Media Inc. It says the Merck Manual requires the Acrobat Reader and Search 4.0 to work properly. It says I must uninstall Acrobat 3.x versions before installing the the newer 4.0 version.
Shouldn't the latest versions open this, but it doesn't?well, the local Nokia representative got back to me.
Turns out all those "problems" are "features" (surprise surprise), they will forward it to the global Nokia.
I guess it's the best I could have hoped for.

Is there a function to Search a Text File?
I am writing a program that will read data from a URL and then save that URL to a text file. I then need to be able to search the text file for certain strings and must know which line they appear on. I realize that I could read the text file in line by line looking for the string and then note the current line number. However, I need to search for 20-30 different strings in each URL and this would be very inefficient. I would really like some way to say:
int lineNumber = 0;
lineNumber = searchText("sometextfile.txt", str);
And have searchText return the lineNumber on which the String str was found. Alternately, if there is way to search a URL that would cut out the middle man of writing it to a text file first.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I could not find this anywhere. Thanks.I have done something similar to to this, but it depends on what you want to use it for. I was looking for specific data on websites and would copy that data into a database. So, I used regex to find the data on the site and copy it. I also had to use String Tokenizer in certain places to get the correct data sometimes.
