Which group should GI_HOME and ORACLE_HOME belong to after installation?

Hi, I finished installation and creation of database.
However now I think all the group for GI_HOME belong to grid:oinstall and ORACLE_HOME belong to oracle:oinstall.
Do I have to change them to dba as group?
Thanks

Hi,
Formerly the database admins set up the oraInventory to dba group. That works but fell outside the standards of Oracle.
In newer versions the Oracle OUI check if oinstall group is primary group (if not a warning is returned) so during install OUI don't allow you set up manually the oraInventory group, so Installer take the primary group of your OS user.
When you install Oracle software on the system for the first time, OUI creates the oraInst.loc file. This file identifies the name of the Oracle Inventory group (by default, oinstall), and the path of the Oracle Central Inventory directory.
By default, if an oraInventory group does not exist, then the installer lists the primary group of the installation owner for the Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster software as the oraInventory group.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/prelinux.htm#BABDEAIJ
Before installation, you can set the group as you wish, is only a issue of standards and organization of the environment.
However after the installation exists an procedure to change it. We can not simply modify using only "chown" utility.

    Sankalp,
I too have the error 0x81000033 when running the full system image backup.  I could not assign a drive letter to my 100mb drive with the Disk Management.  So, I went into the diskpart and ran the following commands:
    diskpart
    list disk
    DISKPART> list par

    fsutil usn deletejournal /D q:
After diskpart, I opened the "My Computer" and see that I have 78.2 of 96.0MB free.  Despite that, I ran these commands on the new q: drive:

  • As per best practice which Group should we use AD or SharePoint Group?

    Hi,
    Please help.
    thanks
    srabon

    Hi Srabon ,
Here are the benefits and limitations of both ,decide as per your environment and requirements
    SharePoint Groups:
Benefits – The definition and use of SharePoint Groups is under the control of the SharePoint administrators.  SharePoint is a more dynamic environment
where Sites and Lists are created for short term use by teams as part of a project.  SharePoint Groups provide the flexibility to be created when needed and then removed just as easily when the project is completed.
Limitations – The scope of a SharePoint group is limited to a Site Collection.  So, if I want to give
access to a group of users to more than one SharePoint Site Collection, I need to create that group in each of the Site Collections.  If I do that, I end up having to manage membership across each of those SharePoint Groups separately.
    Active Directory Groups:
Benefits – As the foundation of the operating system and Exchange, most companies are familiar with Active Directory Groups.  They are used as security groups for access to network devices
and other infrastructure and applications.  They are also used to manage distribution lists in Exchange.
Limitations – Active Directory Group management (adding/removing users) is usually controlled by the Network group within IT.   Due to the impact
of these groups, IT departments usually have very strong controls and policies around membership requests and changes.  These controls make it difficult for the SharePoint administrators to be responsive to the dynamic nature of SharePoint – meeting the
needs of a collaborative use model.
here is a good article you can refer to :

  • Can't start oracle wiki and blog application right after installation

I've been setting up the wiki and blog application 10.1.3.4.0 on weblogic server 10gR3, windows 2003 server SP2 and on trying to launch the application using the url format http://host_name:port/owc_wiki I get the following error
    Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
Any ideas? The access logs are showing that there was a GET request, but I can't find the reason why the server is not servicing the request.

I hope who ever gets this problem gets help from this solution. I managed to solve my problem just that from the many diagnostic changes, I can't really put a finger on what really did the trick!!
I desided to go through the insatllation one more time. I noticed that when I create by Data source jdbc/OWCWikiDS and test it, it was testing successfully.
After setting up Data source I went bank to JDBC > DataSources > Monitoring > Testing. i selected my data source "wikiserver", and tested , i got this error -
"weblogic server Warning! Connectivity to backend database not verified. This is either because required connection pool attribute "TestConnectionsOnReserve" has not been enabled, or an invalid value has been specified for attribute "TestTableName". Please check the server log for more details.."
I then went to JDBC > DataSources > jdbc/OWCWikiDS> Connection Pool > Advanced
Test Connections On Reserve, and I checked it. Further to that I changed my driver from oracle Driver (thin) to BEA's oracle Driver Type 4AX.
Then I inspected my startWebLogic.cmd and noticed that my update for toplink was not at the exact place it had to be so I practically copied the whole if-else clause in the guide to replace my one.
After that My application was now working.

  • I am going to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard ( I just purchased the snow leopard disk today).  Will I be able to keep my data and third party programs after installation?

    Hi Apple Community,
This is my first time using the Apple Support Communities.  After installing/upgrading to snow leopard from disk will I lose my data and my third party programs like Adobe Indesign?
    Thank you in advance,
    John

    John... welcome to ASC,
You could if you don't backup everything to an external drive first. Always backup your important data before upgrading from one Mac OS to the next.
"Backup"  most important word in computing
Make sure your Mac meets Snow Leopard's minimum requirements before upgrading >   Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications

  • How can I perform a silent install of an application AND use "run executable after installation"

I am trying to do a silent install of a program I built using LabVIEW 8.5.  I also need to call an exe after the installation, so I am using the "run executable after installation" option on the Advanced tab of the installer.  I then pass the following command lines to the setup.exe:
    /qb /acceptlicenses yes /r
This installs the LabVIEW program successfully, but does not then run the additional exe afterward.  If I run the setup.exe normally (with no command line parameters), the additional exe gets run.
    Thanks,
    Jason

This problem is fixed in a future release of LabVIEW. Here's the CAR ID 67549 for tracking purposes.

  • Which  group belongs a user to

I have two older user accounts which were created by OS 10.2 or later and all times migrated over to newer OS versions. I do have some trouble with Fontbook and I tried all solutions I found here in the forum.
Now, I took a look with terminal to the users Library folder and see, that many folders are owned by the user (which should be) but the groups vary from staff and some belongs to wheel. Can this be make some apps not working properly? And what, if I use a tool like Font Fing... for setting new groups to all folders inside of user/Library/?
Are the correct group a user belongs to in his user home is staff? Does the group wheel come from a older OS install?

Yes, the 'wheel' group comes from one of your older installs. I think around the 10.4 -> 10.5 upgrade, group 'staff' was made the default owner group for all users. So, any new stuff you added to your home folder got the 'staff' group, and so it's not unexpected that you'll see a mix of old group and new group corresponding to old and new data.
Improper group affiliation could be causing you some problems, though I can't say for sure. However, it should be OK for you to change all your user's data so that 'staff' is the group owner...

  • Which group a contact belongs in

I'm not sure if this question belongs here so apologies up front if it doesn't. It's really a cross product question. I have set up groups in my contact list. I noticed recently that if I add a new contact and don't add it to a group it stays in All Contacts which makes sense. However, I set up groups so I did not have to show All Contacts. When I view a contact, is there a way to see which group it belongs in? If I'm viewing All Contacts, there's no way for me to see if I've already added that contact to a group or if I need to.
    Thanks.

Hold down the option key. The groups will highlight in yellow.

  • HT2486 Is it possible to notate in each Adress Book Card which Groups it belongs to?

It would be helpful to know ofr each Address Book entry which Groups they belong to. Does anyone know how to notate on each entry which Groups they belong to?

idip31 said on http://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/2juazy/can_you_nickname_your_credit_cards _associated/ that "You cannot change the name of the card to a nick name. And you can't change the design, it will be whatever is associated to it by ApplePay/Bank".
Hopefully a feature like this will be added in a future update of the stock application.

Why do I have both photoshop cc and photoshop cc (64 bit) in my menu? Which one should I be using?

The majority of the time using the 64 bit version is better, since you have more resources available (ram)
If you need to run some older third party plugins that were only ever offered as 32 bit plugins, then the 32 bit version is the choice.
Or if you happen to use a scanner with twain, then the 32 bit version.

I am using TM Unifi with an ASUS RT-N18U Wi-Fi router.  I would like to know could I use Apple AirPort Time Capsule to extend (repeater, booster) my Wi-Fi to a part of the house where the Wi-Fi signal is poor
Yes,, if you plan to connect the AirPort Time Capsule to the ASUS router using an Ethernet cable connection that will remain fixed and permanently installed at all times.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Time Capsule connect wirelessly and extend the Asus WiFi signal, since it would not be compatible with another manufacturer's router for that purpose.
Another way of saying the same thing here would be that if you want to extend the network wirelessly, it will take two Apple routers to do so

Depends on how you want to use it. Flash storage on the newer macbook and macbook air are built in. A macbook air is the most light weight and a very good machine. It will do all you want it to do unless you are running some very intensive programs. If you go to the apple store on line you can compare  the different macbook pro" and macbook Air's.
