Which model iPod should I buy?
My 3-day old classic 80G is going back to the store today. It crashes, needs to be rebooted every time I turn it on - it is absolutely useless. And this is without any music on it. Totally empty box device. Which model do you recommend that I buy that will hold a lot of music, will play the music, & will not crash so often? I do not need or care about video. I just want a music player that works.

The easiest way is to simply browse the App Store on the iPod touch itself, it will only show apps that are compatible with the device that you are using.
It isn't currently possible to do that with the desktop iTunes App Store.

I tried just about everything and finally brought my Ipod touch to the apple store. The tech installed ios 4.3.5 but still no WIFI. He recommended a $149 exchange - not really a bad deal with a new battery and 90 day warranty, but I thought I'd try again.
The "solution" was bizarre. On YouTube was a fix involving taking the motherboard out and heating the wifi components with a heat gun.
I did not like that idea, but another involved turning it off, putting it in the freezer for five minutes and restarting. It worked! I must admit the fix does not work reliably, so I may still go for the exchange. Still, I am now convinced that it is a hardware problem. i remember back in the old days, TV repairmen sprayed a suspected bad resistor with Freon. The chilled component would work long enough to identify what needed replacement. Perhaps something similar is happening here.
For anyone wanting to try this, I found it more convenient to place the back of my ipod on a frozen cold pack until the wifi is restored. It seems to happen when condensation forms on the face. I used a towel to wipe off the moisture so as not to add to the problem. -

I own an iPod touch which stopped working and this being a quality team and prestige is that I have to be considered as disposable as so far I have not been able to repair and I am sorry I took some effort for me it . If your business is equally as good customer service and say I can do to solve the problem and my equipment is still functional. Thank you for your attention to this.
Oredinarily, I would ask if it's still in warranty and, if so, recommend that you contact Apple. However, you indicated that you attempted to repair the Touch yourself so I suspect that you have voided the warranty. You might want to try Apple anyway and see what happens.

I've read through several discussions and I've seen a lot of similar issues but none that were quite like mine. Every time I plug my 3rd gen. iPod nano in it shows it connected on the iPod screen and iTunes opens up but the device does not show up in iTunes. The icon on the iPod shows connected and gives the arrows circling showing syncing even though it still says connected. But it won’t show up in iTunes. It shows up on my windows computer but I can’t click it or make it do anything. It keeps saying “You need to format the disk before you can do anything.” And when I hit cancel it beeps and says "Location not available. Dara error (cyclic redundancy check)." As if I know what that means!! And I have 800 songs on it but they aren’t all on my computer and some are on my parents’ computer but I can’t get to that one. It shows it is a “FAT32” which I have no clue what that means but I’ve never noticed that before.
Windows "can't access the disk" and I don't know why. It gives me that notification if I try to check the drive or disk or device for problems. And if you click it on Windows it pops up a screen with formatting things (which I don't know anything about). And then it closes and says that it CANNOT format the device.
The iPod works almost okay when it isn’t plugged in, but I’ve noticed that half my songs won’t play. You click on it and it plays the next one in the album. And it isn’t always the first song in an album but random songs. And songs I listen to a lot. You can’t go back (you can only go forward and you can’t skip over the ‘missing’ song) or even click to select those songs. But other songs play normal, just not half of them that are on the iPod but all of a sudden no longer work. And I don’t know why. I have another 3rd gen. iPod nano that doesn’t have ANY of these problems. It hooks up, it doesn’t need formatting, and all its songs play. I don’t know what is wrong or what to do. I’ve tried re-downloading iTunes and everything. I don’t want to have to reset my iPod and lose everything.
I’ve tried locating the device in iTunes and it shows the iPod but it gives this weird symbol and I can’t select it. It’s like a white box with a box that is outlined in blue with six random icons in the middle. I’ve seen it before and it always means something is wrong or a file (which is where I have seen it before) is corrupted. And like I said I have a second iPod nano of the same generation and it does not give this weird symbol. Plus it connects just fine. It’s this one iPod.
I don’t understand what is going on. It worked just fine and then all of a sudden I noticed songs wouldn’t play so I went to plug it into iTunes and nothing has worked. I’ve searched discussions and none of the tips help. But I want my songs to play again and I want my iPod back.Hey briannagrace96,

My 60 gb Ipod worked great till last night (4/23/06) now... not so much
ok, maybe somebody can help me with this... cause as much as I doubt it, it could be a software issue...
I went to update with the nifty Ipod Updater app. last night and it said that the was a "disk read error, cannot read or write to disk."
then my Ipod (which had worked flawlessly up till that point) displayed the little caution/exclamation point sign. It will display nothing more, the updater app won't do anything with it, itunes doesn't recoginze it. I have gone through every single step on the support page 10 times for all three of my USB ports, and the guy from the Geek Squad at BestBuy just looked at me and shrugged (largely cause I won't be here in a week therefore it is pointless for me to give it to them for fixing).
On the off chance that there is some kind of software fix that I can try, i'd really like to know.Want to know how Apple will get 20 hours out of their 60GB iPods batteries ?
They'll fill it with music and fully charge it (of course), then get it to play continuously (probably on random/shuffle or something similar) until the battery dies. They'll have the screen off all that time and they simply won't touch it, in an attempt to get the longest time they can.
ie. it won't simulate real-life use !
Few other things worth mentioning :
- Battery life whilst playing videos is only 3 hours total, so playing any videos at all is going to make quite a difference
- The battery life indicator is only a rough guide - it's not accurate
- Don't get too obsessed with 'calibrating' the battery. Accoring to Apple, this isn't necessary because ""lithium-ion batteries, such as those used in iPod, have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries."

Ipod works on one computer but not the other?
Can someone please help me? My ipod works on my laptop but not the desktop. When I plug the Ipod into the desktop it sometimes shows up in Itunes but says it's corrupt. Which it obviously isn't because it works fine on it's own when not plugged into a computer and it works fine when I plug it into the laptop. Also when I looked in my computer the Ipod would show up as drive j and it would flash on and off. Well, I tried plugging the Ipod into a different port and that worked as far as drive j stopped flashing on and off. I tried changing the drive name and it wouldn't let me because it always went back to drive j even after I changed it to drive z. Itunes is playing music and is up to date. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Please help.

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

Which iPod Nano on OS X 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1?
Hello,
I'd like to know which iPod Nanos (i.e. generations/models) I can use with OS X 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1. I can't find such a compatibility chart on the site.
Note that I am not interested in syncing my laptop iTunes and the iPod per se. All I want to do is for the iPod to mount as an external drive/device via USB, copy selected mp3s to it, and then independently play them.
Thanks for any info.You can't directly copy them and play them. I believe the 3rd Generation and below will work with your setup. You would need to set up the Nano to manually manage your music and drag them from your iTunes library to your Nano.

My ipad says it is connected to WiFi, which is workingly perfectly for several other devices, will not connect to internet. It keeps giving the message 'Cannot Connect' or error has occurred or just blink off site or icon?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I'm in the need of an external HDD. But, as I was thinking about it, an iPod came to mind, which leaves me with LOTS of questions:
1) Do all HDD-based iPods work as disks?
2) Can I partition the drive so that I can have X gb of music and Y gb of files at the same time?
3) Are there problems with using it as a disk as well as music?
4) Realistically, is file transfer bearable as far as speed goes? (about how long will a 2GB take to upload and download?)
5) What generation iPods can be connected simply (no dock to carry around)? Do any use 4pin FireWire or standard USB, or only the Apple cabling?
6) Any other suggestions / warnings / pointers?

2. No. Disk mode and "iPod mode" both share the same partition.
3. Yes. Excessive use as a hard disk generates a lot of heat which is bad for the iPod.
4. USB 2.0 is not too bad.
5. All of them. The older gen iPods used a standard 6 pin firewire cable. All current iPods use a proprietary Apple cable with dock connector.
6. My suggestion... don't do it. The iPod is an audio player. It has standard hard disk capabilities, but not to be used in the way you intend. -
Does the iPod work without a screen?
Hello all, I am asking for your help.
I have an 80 gig 5.5 gen iPod video and the screen was recently broken. After the screen was cracked (I don't know how this happened), the iPod quit working altogether. So I decided to remove the screen and see if the ipod would work. It kind of works, but the music won't play and the click wheel doesn't click. All it does is fire up in disk mode, and the buttons click when you press them (an audible click is heard from the clicker inside). I am wondering if this is normal for the ipod to not work when the screen is missing, or should it still be functional? I would like to know this for the simple reason of whether or not to buy a new screen and put it in, or is my ipod broken for good.
I don't want to spend the money on a new screen unless it will make my ipod work again.

I just plugged the screen back in and the iPod is doing the same thing, and the backlight always stays on. Is this a defect of the broken screen, or is the whole ipod wrecked?
Message was edited by: LafandaIt should work. Reports I have read from people with broken screens on these boards usually say they can not see anything since the screen is cracked, but the iPod will still play fine.
Perhaps you are not hitting the right menu items (on the display you can not see) in order to get it to start playing something?
You might try resetting it first...
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen, which of course you can not see. But you should find if it is rebooting that the click wheel will no longer give any sounds for a good minute or two while it reboots.
So just keep whirling the click wheel around every 30 seconds or so until you hear the clicking noise again. Once you do, then you should be able to whirl it clockwise which would put you on the last item of the main menu of your iPod. Hopefully this is the Shuffle library one on yours. Hit play and then wait while it loads up the music and see if it starts playing.

First off, I'm using Windows XP (and Mac SnowLeopard) Here's how it started. For some reason my ipod started showing up as a camera when I plugged it in. It works fine in itunes, though. But when I tried to access it from "my computer" it only
showed me the one and only picture I had on my ipod. I deleted that picture hoping it would no longer show up as a camera. When it still did I right-clicked on it in "my computer" and selected "properties". Under "autoplay" I
chose for it to 'not show up' or 'take no action' or some such deal when I plugged it in. I thought that would stop it from popping up the window that asks whether i want to 'open camera wizard' or 'open camera scanning' or 'open folder to view files' or 'take
no action' , etc. But now it won't show up in "my computer" at all. I also have a Mac with SnowLeopard. When I plugged my ipod into it my ipod doesn't show up in "finder" either! So basically my problem is not a mechanical one with hardware
or software; yht ipod still works fine in itunes. I just need to undo the change I made. I've searched all around my preferences, utilities, options, etc. It shows up on my "Device Manager" but not on "Disk Management".

Moreover, i recommend you to
restore ipod to factory settings.
If this issue still persists, locate to device manager, uninstall and reinstall USB Mass Storage Device driver.

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

How to use a dropdown in a workbook which can work in different queries?
Hi Experts,
I have created a workbook which can display the query by using the 'Push Button'. One query is based on material analysis and another one on product analysis.
It works good..
In that workbook, I want to use a dropdown so that it can display the required key figure. (Note : In both the queries, key figures are same.)
While selecting the keyfigure option in the properties of dropdown, the target data provider is not visible.
So, pls help me to use the dropdown which can work in both the queries.

From that moment a user that is tied to new role can read the old report using the rights associated in a new role.
