Which ISP????

Calling all ye mac experts,
Just got a G5 and am wanting to upgrade from a dial up connection to a broadband. Would be criminal to restrict this thing of beauty to dial up speed!! Can anyone recommend a UK ISP that is fully compatible with macs. I had presumed that any ISP would do (mac novice that I am!), but apparently not I'm being led to believe!!? Don't want to sign up with someone for a year just to find out it will be a year of problems!!! Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I am no expert with the mac having just bought mine a month or so ago. However I have done a lot of research on the question of ISPs for the mac. Unfortunatly I am locked into a contract with AOL Broadband and can not change yet. AOL do not support broadband for the mac!!. Yes I know.
When I do change ISP it will be to Zen. Go to their website at www.zen.co.uk and click on support. You will find that their support for the mac is second to none. Plus their is no annual contract. Just month to month payment.
Check them out.

  • UK ISP wanted

    I am hoping to connect my new iMac to broadband as soon as possible. But I am out of my depth when ISP websites contain lines like "There is currently no driver support for Intel based Macs". (You will gather that I know next to nothing about setting up this kind of connection).
    I have Airport express and an ADSL-nation XModem M3.
    Can anyone suggest ISPs in UK who might provide a relatively straightforward setup?

    Generally speaking, it really doesn't matter which ISP you choose. When an ISP says they don't support Macs what they mean is that they do not have any staff that know Mac OS. Connecting to an ISP is very simple. The protocols used are exactly the same for a PC as they are for a Mac. I would advise that you get an adsl router as opposed to a usb broadband modem though. USB modems cause more problems than they solve and continually require updated drivers. With adsl routers, you just plug them in and within seconds you're up and running - no drivers required.
    As far as which ISP is best... they are all pretty much the same really. I'm currently with BT Broadband but I have also been seriously looking at Talk Talk (http://www.talktalk.co.uk) who claim to offer free broadband access for life - I'm trying to figure out what the catch is.

  • Multiple ISPs & single IP/MPLS/ADSL infrastructure

    Actually very soon we'll have an IP/MPLS core network with ADSL access network.
    What we are going to do is to make several ISPs to use the IP/MPLS core in order to provide internet to their users.
    Can we configure an MPLS VPN for each Service Provider so that it can support the ADSL users from its own Backbone. (I suppose that the MPLS VPN will span several cities, and it will be secure and totally separate from other ISPs MPLS VPNs) .
    If so , can an ASDL user choose the ISP that he wants , or the ADSL port will be dedicated for a specific ISP.
    Could you provide me with examples for multiple ISPs that use the same IP/MPLS/ADSL infrastructure & what are the all existing(already applied in the real world) senarios ?

    You can definitly do what you described. actually i am a network engineer for an isp that uses exactly that service from a carrier. there are at least 10 more isps on that share this mpls core to reach that carriers dsl customers.
    There are few ways i know to do while enabling users to select their isp:
    use PPPoE or PPPoA for the dsl users. get those dsl users to terminate at your BRAS (which should also be a PE in some of the options (for example a7301 routers stack). from this point the solution divides to two options:
    1. this option is faster but not so acaleable.
    In this option you termintae the ppp sessions sends a radius request to your radius server that by the domain name recognizes to which isp the customer belongs to (for example [email protected] vs [email protected]), and forward the request to that isp radius which then authorizes it and within the response sends an vrf selection. then the users belongs to that vrf on your network that belong to that isp.
    in this option one dsl user can have severel isp accounts and switch between them by changing the credientials in his ppp software.
    2. this options requires a more comples system from the isp but gives him much greater control over his subscribers and saves you a hell of a management burden. this options begin like the previous one with a PPPoE/PPPoA session coming from the dsl users to your BRAS (which doesn't need to be a PE but rather be a CE) however this time the BRAS is configured not the teminate the ppp sessions but to map them (by the domain name) to l2tp tunnels which will terminate in the isp BRAS. in this scenario all isps can share the same vrf since they get the l2tp/ppp seperation of each user session.
    It gives he isp many advantages like controlling the addressing, applying serivces etc etc. again users can switch between isps by changing the username@doamin at their ppp software.
    The third option is based on service selection devices like cisco ssg. in this option you can use the adsl in 1483b mode (cisco rbe for example).the service selection device is the one that terminates the atm pvcs from the dslam. when the users is trying to access the internet he is presented with captive web page where he is required to authenticate with his isp. this authentication request is then proxied to the right isp (again by the domain) which replys with a radius response that include the vrf assignment. again users can switch between isps any time.

  • Network Drive Mapping for users who have Port 445 (possibly others) Blocked by their ISP to a Server 2008 system

    Nice to see my original posts are still up.  I was hoping that in the ensuing time someone had found a solution.  At least I can now see many other posting the same problems.  :)  Thought I was losing it for a while.
    We have 100% proven that the problem (in our case) is from the ISP blocking port 445 (possibly others but 445 for SURE) with the reasoning that it prevents the spread of some Internet "worms".  It also just happens to prevent people who work
    from home from being able to map to their network drives at work.
    What I was hoping was that eventually someone would comer up with a solution for this short of having to load a server using a different OS from Windows.  The SMB protocol is the one needing port 445 as far as I can tell.  Not all ISP block
    port 445 and the laptops that use those ISP's  have no problem.  Unless they travel.  Then it is "hit or miss" as to whether the ISP for the Hotel they stay at blocks it.
    I have run multiple tests to prove that this was in FACT the problem.  Even the particular ISP in question which is a very large national ISP company freely admits they do this supposedly to prevent the spread of an unnamed Internet Worm.  It also
    happens to prevent Business use of their Internet by Home Subscribers at they cannot map to their Business Servers which also need port 445 to map.
    I have used WebDAV successfully to get around this but at a huge loss of speed and performance.  Cloud services all do essentially the same thing and all have pretty much the same loss of speed.
    If anyone has come across a method of allowing a drive mapping to be rerouted to any other port, that is the only hope I have short of changing to an alternate OS for the Office Server and even then I cant be sure until I try if it would help.  I read
    somewhere about the possibility of routing through a proxy but again, the problem would still be that the requests for mapping are expected on port 445 on the server and they will not get through even to the proxy since the originating ISP is the one blocking
    the port from the User's system. 
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated  I have posted this question now for several years with no one yet providing a working solution.  Hope burns Eternal though :)

    Yes, OwnCloud is an option as well as many others.  Even self hosted Cloud services such as the WD MyCloud all work.  The problem is speed.  JungleDisk is the best I have found so far.  I am not sure exactly what they use to allow the
    drive mapping but it seems to work faster that anything else I have found.
    VPN's don't work.  At least none of them I have tried.   I can connect a VPN with no problem.  But still cannot map a drive over it.   Actually, there are some issues with the VPN as well but these are just a matter of methodology. 
    Mapping to the FQDN works for some people while others require the public IP.  Some users on some ISP's can map using the FQDN, others have to map to the IP.  That in itself was a bit odd.
    I have tried every trick I could find including adding  the IP and/or FQDN to the Windows Hosts file on the server as well as on the client systems.  This actually did help to get the VPN to connect in some cases.  However, it still would
    not allow me to map a drive letter.
    I can create a Network Place,  This also works.  But it will not allow me to MAP that "network place" to a drive letter.  I have tried multiple utilities that allow mapping of Drive letters to almost anything but they wont work to map to a
    Network Place.
    The software that needs the mapped drive is a SQL database which runs on port 2004.  The program itself has no problems at all connecting to the server to run the database.  Even on systems which cannot map to the needed drive letter for the documents
    referred to in the database.    Users can run it and look up all kinds of material but it it is only a half-solution since the database refers to files stored in a "common-mapped" drive letter.  Which I cannot Map.
    I have tried every possible configuration of the VPN setup I could find, I have even tried a "Test System" with the NIC connected directly to the T1 Modem.  With all firewalls off and no AV software.  Even if that had worked,  there is no
    way I could run like that.  But it didn't.  Same issues.  All this did was put the blame squarely on the User's ISP which was the only reason I did it.  I had to rule out even the slightest chance that it was something in our equipment.
    This was already almost a certain fact since the same user could take their laptop to a WiFi Hotspot at a fast food restaurant and connect as well as map the drive.  As soon as they went back home, no drive.  On the ones I could convince to pay
    the extra charges, if they switched to a business connection from their ISP, No Problems.
    On most MiFi or other Cellular Internet devices, No Problem,  Although that had a habit of changing.  We had a few that worked for a while, then they got a software update for their MiFi which immediately blocked the ability to map.  Others
    it would be that some models of Cellular HotSpot units worked while other would not work even if both came from the same carrier.
    Coincidentally, we had none of these problems before two other events occurred: 
    One was the release of Server 2008 R2, (which was a kid of "surprise" change for all of us used to Server 2008 R1.  Welcomed changes, but not expected with a simple SP release. 
    The other was IPV6 finally became a reality:  June of 2012.
    This left us with much head scratching as to what was the real cause of the problem.  It took months to narrow it down to port blocking by the Outside ISP's with a 100% certainty.  Even tried reloading a system with Server 2008 R1 just to rule
    that out.  As well as disabling IPV6 on every network device.  The problem stayed with the User when Outside and which ISP they were connected to.
    Currently we are using a mix of normal VPNs for those who can run them, and CLOUD access for those who can't.  Even this is problematic since we have to keep both the local copy and the cloud copy in constant sync so that everyone sees the same versions
    of the same files on each one.
    Sorry to make this so long but I wanted to cover everything to show that we tried it all.  The only thing left short of getting the ISP's to remove the port blocks would be to find a way to route the SMB file requests around port 445 in some way. 
    I have been told that this is easy enough if using a file system other than Windows but that is not an option even if true. 
    Thanks for the updates and ideas.  I keep hoping that eventually there will be some secure method for mapping a drive letter that does not depend on having port 445.

    I'm new to MAC and to this Forum... I recently bought an iMax Intel Duo Core and am now shopping around trying to get a good Broadband provider, in London, UK, which will support MACs!
    Can anyone advise please?

    Hi Monica and welcome to the discussions!
    It depends on what you mean by "support Macs." If you mean, "Which ISPs will work on Macs" the answer is all of them. If you mean which ones will give technical support and assist in troubleshooting, then that answer is a little fuzzier.
    In theory, all ISPs are platform agnostic. They simply do not care what kind of computer running whatever OS is connected to them. Macs, PCs running Windows and Linux can all connect to the internet just fine. Most ISPs I have used in the States have limited knowledge of Macs and offer very little tech support.
    If your ISP requires specific software to connect to them - and the ones I have seen typically do not - then they usually provide both Mac and PC versions. That software is usually just a quick setup wizard that quides you through what you could do yourself in the OS configuration and settings.

  • PIX with a second ISP

    I have a PIX with two ISPs connections, each one arrives to a different PIX interfaces. ISP1 is the default route for the PIX. If I receives a connection to an internal server through ISP2 (non default route), did the PIX answer this client through the same connection (ISP2) or through the default route (ISP1)?
    I'm trying to arrive to an internal web server through ISP2 and I can't. If I put an static route in the PIX to the ISP2-client IP through ISP2 router I can. But I can't set advanced routes in the PIX (based in source IP address), so how can I solve this problem? I want to set one ISP for navigation and the other one for my servers (web, e-mail,...)

    The only way I've gotten something like this to work was to use 1 ISP for default route communications (i.e. Internet access), and the 2nd ISP for staticly routed connections (i.e. VPN site-to-site tunnels).
    Alternatively you can use a Cisco IOS router and connect both ISPs into it upstream from the PIX and then use policy routing on the Cisco router to route traffic in/out each ISP based upon the source IP address. Then you control which ISP is used based upon what IP scheme you NAT into on the PIX. I've done this before and it works fine.

  • How can I avoid re-configuring my outgoing server when travelling?

    I have always "reconfigured" my 'outgoing server' -- the smtp setting under MAIL preferences -- when travelling outside my ISP's service area. (For 12 years with Eudora, and now 4 years with MAIL).  But often at hotels, or in airports, it's not possible to get the info, that is, the smtp designator for the ISP serving the hotel or airport. When unable to get that info, I have to revert to using my home ISP's "webmail" which is clunky, limited, slow, inflexible, and doesn't integrate well with my Apple MAIL later. I hate using it.
    When I AM able to get the local smtp designator info when on the road, it nearly always does the trick and I am able to do all my email work as I would back at my home office.
    However, recently, I stayed with a friend on the west coast, (let's call him Brian) who is something of a Mac expert, but he was unable to confidently give me the smtp designators for his local ISP-- apparently because he never has to change his smtp configuration when on the road!  Like me, he uses two servers, that is, he is connected at his home via the phone company's DSL service using a high speed modem, but he likes to retain the email address he had originally got from an earlier ISP he used, back when he was on dial-up. So he pays that ISP a monthly $5.00 to allow him to continue to use the email address he has had since being their customer way back when.  So we called both of Brian's ISP's and got their smtp designators. However, neither of these, when plugged into my MAIL preferences, would allow me to "send" using Apple MAIL and I was again obliged to use my clunky webmail.
    Now, it seems to me he is being "relayed" (is that the right term?) by the phone company sending outgoing mail over to the older ISP, and the older ISP relays his mail over to the phone company's server to give him his incoming mail. When I am visiting him, this may be to confusing for the smtp configuration in my MAIL.
    I would think not, though, because I have a similar setup: I connect to a cable company modem from my home on the east coast, but my address is the one I got from our local phone company before high-speed became available to us via the cable TV service. When we switched from the phone company's dial-up to the cable company's high- speed, we kept the original email address --which was specific to the phone company-- and we pay $5.00 per month for the privilege. Seems very similar to Brian's setup.
    However, at Brian's, changing the smtp designator doesn't work to allow me to send emails from Apple's MAIL program.
    Brian tells me he doesn't have to do this smtp change when he travels, with his Apple MAIL.  He doesn't know why I do it, nor why I should have to.  I suspect, that unknown to him,  his ISP has some kind of setup whereby his smtp designation is a sort of "universal" outgoing server designation, and his outgoing emails are accepted no matter which ISP he is using when away from home. And I think my MAIL configuration must be incompatible with that. This is just my suspicion.
    So my questions are:
    1. why doesn't Brian have to re-configure his smtp outgoing server when he travels? and...
    2. how can I get that kind of universal "email send-ability" when I travel, and not have to be challenged with having to re-do my outgoing server when travelling, using Apple's MAIL?
    Any insights will be most gratefully received!!!!
    PS I'm using Snow Leopard on MacBook 10.6.8; I think Brian is using Leopard on a 15-in Powerbook.

    Many email providers allow you to send from outside their network if you set up authentication to their servers in your outgoing mail server setup. You may wish to confirm this with your email provider, but you can just try this:
    1) Go to the Accounts preference in Mail
    2) Select your email account
    3) On the Account Information tab, locate the "Outgoing Mail Server" section and pull the menu down to "Edit SMTP Server list"
    4) Select the appropriate outgoing server and go to the Advanced tab
    5) In the Authentication pulldown, select "Password" and enter in your email account ID and password
    6) Click all the applicable "OK" buttons to close it all up and save the information.
    That may work with your email provider, or they may have additional settings needed such as "Use Security Sockets Layer (SSL)". Your provider should be able to tell you what specific settings you need if the basic user name and password don't work.

  • 3 MONTHS DELAY FOR CONNECTING TO A NEW BUILD PROPE...

    Hi all,
    This is my first post here, not intended to be a rant, but would like to share my anger and frustration I had with BT Openreach. This is a very long story.
    To begin, I am not an average user, I understand about BT Wholesale, ISP, service provider, Line provisioning team, Line Plant Team etc... Yet, everytime I called BT customer, I was treated as if I was an idiot but in fact, the "advisors" were actually those did not know whats going on!
    Anyway, I think it was rather unfortunate that no matter which ISP we go for, the actual connection must be done by Openreach. This means, if Openreach decides not to work for you, then you'll be stuck... forever. well, satellite broadband or 3G,4G are still viable if you have the wallet.
    So my situation began 3 months ago when I moved into my new built apartment in London. I quickly signed up to BT internet and phone because this was just a daily necessity. Typically, there is a 14days lead time for the engineers to attend your case, which is reasonable... and so I waited for it. The "big" day came which I took holiday from work to wait, and after numerous emails and txt to tell me to wait at home for the engineer, and guess what happened? No show from BT.
    I phoned the customer care in India the next day, waited for 30mins on my mobile (had not discover WeQ4U yet that time), someone picked up and said that the engineer would come again the following monday, although no explanation was given why no show the first time. So, I waited and wasted another day of my 25days annual leave, NO SHOW AGAIN!
    This time, I was given an explanation that there was a problem at the switch, so additional works was required. Which also meant that an even longer delay would result. I wasn't happy with BT and their so-called customer care’s attitude and so decided to cancel my order and go with a service provider that I used for the last 7 years.
    So... I went to signup phone and internet package with them, as this company was truly UK BASED, I received update almost instantly. So on the day I paid for the connection, it immediately showed up as delay status from Openreach. I phone them up to find out, and they were told by Openreach that there was a substantial problem occurred at the exchange, - this seemed to match with what BT told me, so fair enough, I waited for a week as Openreach said they would update my ISP in a week time. 
    A week had gone, as expected, no update whatsoever. I contacted my service provider to find out, then they were told by Openreach that they were working on it and advised a "significant update" would be issued 3 WEEKS LATER! (This was probably the 5th week since I signed up to BT broadband). Openreach also advised my provider not to contact them during this time because there would not be any updates.
    Ok, so I waited for three more weeks (8th week). I called my service provider to check the progress, which they raised the question to BT Wholesale team and then the team spoke to BT Openreach, the answer I got was they had not completed the works… that was it! They advised me to wait for another THREE weeks for an UPDATE. WTF, bear in mind the property was not in the middle of nowhere, it was in LONDON! waiting for 6 weeks just to receive an update? and yet they did not mention about when the works would be completed, or whether it had even started?
    After a good conversation with my service provider, they had escalated the case for me. After a week of escalation, no reply from Openreach so my provider escalated again to get to their manager, now this time the manager came back and said the works were completed! So.. did that mean I could get my phone line to work? No. 
    Today is probably the 10th week I waited, and so far, no official word from Openreach on when they will actually connect my phone. 
    This is ridiculous because I am living in a new built apartment, my ISP also searched that there are 3 pairs of spare lines to the apartment block – which is referred as Gold status. At one point, Openreach said that there was a lack of supply to my development, hence causing the delay. And yet I am receiving more and more WIFI connections from my neighbours everyday, so how can this be true?
    I contacted my property developer, they said they had provided all necessary infrastructure, not being able to connect phone would be BT’s problem.
    I contacted Ofcom, and they said there was NO WAY to complaint about Openreach because none of us are actually in contract with them. The only way to complaint would be through my ISP. Well, in a way this was true, but shouldn’t there be warranty from Openreach to the end users? Any visiting Openreach website was more of a time waster because they do not contain any useful information about contacting them or making a complaint.
    My ISP contacted BT wholesale and Openreach, the reply from them was almost a box standard reason for delay. I felt that this problem was out of their control because there wasn’t much they could do if BT Wholesale or openreach were not co-operating.
    So… what should I do now? Wait? Change supplier? Or just give up and use satellite broadband? Given that no satellite dishes are allowed in apartment balconies. 3G? 4G?

    Hi atsang,
    Unfortunately you will need to contact and negotiate with your Communication Provider as BT Retail (an ISP who operates this forum) can't help you as you're not a BT Retail Customer.
    Openreach (a BTplc Group Company) own, maintain and install the exchanges and telecommunication lines for the majority of ISPs and Communication Provider. However Openreach is a seperate line of business to the rest of the BTplc Group and have to treat all ISPs/CPs equally and BT Retail do not get any priority.
    Openreach do not talk to end users like you and I, they will only talk to the ISPs/CPs.
    I'm afraid you will need to take this up with your Communication Provider.
    This is a BT Retail Customer to Customer help forum. The only BT presence are the moderators.

  • Safari fails to open pages - "server not responding"

    Hello all. I just got my new MacBook a few days ago. This is my first Mac and I love it! Safari was working perfectly until yesterday. When I try to open any webpage, it says that Safari "failed to open page because the server stopped responding". Any ideas?

    Have you tried Safari in an other user account if not do so please.
    System pref. ->Accounts -> Login Options [+] to create one. Log out of yours & into that one. This help to pinpoint if this issue is systemic or user specific
    Which ISP do you use ?
    Which Router do you USE, Does it have a Firewall ?
    Can you find it here ? Do you know how to configure, do check the settings.

    If AOL is a browser does it have settings that over ride Safaris ability to connect nI know nada about AOL, perhaps you could check its settings.

  • Can you move mail from one account to another?

    I Use Bellsouth as my ISP. As other Posters have noted they are one of the ISPs that won't accept outgoing mail when you are on the Edge Network (even more frustrating since they are owned by AT&T!). When I go out, I have to change my outgoing mail server to cwmx.com which allows me to send messages and reply to e-mails over the Edge network or random Wi-Fis I pick up.
    However, cwmx.com doesn't work over my home network...I have to reinsert mail.bellsouth.net:25 in the outgoing server. It is a real pain.
    So, I also have a G-mail account. I thought if while I was out, and I went to iPhone/settings/mail/default account, I could select G-mail as the default and I could respond to e-mails that came in on my Bellsouth account via G-mail. Not so fast, Kemosabe!
    So, does anyone know a way to move an incoming message from one email account to another on the iPhone so you can reply using a different account?
    Just as an anecdotal observation, seems like Apple's iPhone partner, AT&T and all of it's children could give less than two hoots about Apple, Safari, etc. They seem pretty stuck in the PC world.

    Formally I always used my ISP's email account as my primary account and when moving or if deciding to change ISPs (I moved twice within a two year period of time), this required changing my email address so I switched my primary email account to a .Mac account so my ISP doesn't matter. It has an authenticated SMTP server so I can send messages with my account regardless which ISP I'm using for my internet access.
    A Gmail account would provide the same for you, is free and can be accessed as a POP account or IMAP account with any email client on your computer and with the iPhone's email client. An IMAP account would also provide for keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized between both email clients used and the ability to save Sent messages on the server with both so sending a message with the iPhone's email client will be available in the account's Sent mailbox with the email client used on your computer automatically and vice-versa. You can also create additional server stored mailboxes with the email client used on your computer for storing received or sent messages by by category and these additional server stored mailboxes will be available with the iPhone's email client automatically.
    This is not possible with a POP account and BellSouth provides POP account access only.
    I understand it is a pain to change your email address but with the combined benefits of a Gmail account which is free and has a good spam filter on the server, I think you should give this some serious consideration.

  • Multiple accounts on same base station

    Can I set up 2 different ISP accounts (access numbers, etc...) on one Airport base station? Once formatted, I could choose which ISP I choose to access at any given time. If so, how is this done? Thanks to anyone who can lend a hand! I am trying to do this with a 12" Power Book.

    2 people are sharing one Power Book. Each person has a different ISP. Can this be accomplished through one Airport Extreme base station?? Remember, we only want to access one ISP at one time.

  • Repeated itunes credit card fraud attempts

    Due to ongoing credit card fraud issues with the itunes store, I'd  like to remove my credit card from the account and strictly use itunes gift cards.

    Actually no, they almost certainly don't. I very much doubt that Apple does, or even can in any practical way, track and log the IP address for every transaction. Even if they did:
    and can give this to the police,
    the police would have to request the information. Whether they have I can't say, but depending on UK privacy laws it might take a court order before Apple could release any information about users. And even then, the police would have to go to extensive lengths to try and find the culprit; first tracking down which ISP manages that particular IP address to find out any location from an IP address. And then working with the ISP (again perhaps requiring a court order) to identify where that IP address is. And that would be assuming that the location wasn't just some Internet cafe or other anonymous location as is most likely.
    While I understand your frustration, it's just not realistic to expect the police to take that much time away from more serious crimes to go to all the effort of tracking down what is probably a minor (relatively speaking; I'm sure it's not minor to you) crime. Sorry, but your best, and perhaps only, recourse is to work through the fraud department of your credit card issuer and hope that they will indeed label the purchase as fraud and reverse the charge to your card.

  • How do I find out who the BB provider is at my pro...

    brief history.
    Bought my existing property in july2012 .
    Ordered BT combined phone and BB package 2 with 40Gb and free calls August 8th 2012
    took BT 5 xweeks to connect my phone line although there was an existing line working at the house .?
    Also 5xweeks to connect the BTHub3 broadband.
    Today i learn that BT cancelled my BT broadband service over a month ago because there was a previous broadband provider still active at the property .
    I am now told that my BT router has been connected to an unknown ISP for the past 6x weeks ????
    How can I find out who the ISP is so I can cancel it as I cannot contact the previous property owner.
    BT have not advised me of any of this by the way. If I hadn't phoned today to query why I have no caller ID or answerphone service or email address and my number isn't ex dir as requested then I'd never have known

    If you go to www.speedtest.net it will display which ISP you're with in the bottom corner. There are a few other websites which tell you too but the URLs escape me at the minute

  • Awful Customer service and handling of my issues

    Hi,
    Not quite sure where to begin but i would like someone to take notice of my concerns as it appears no one in the service center is. I have never received such a poor service and whats worse is that the information i have been given appears to be false.
    The issue started over a month, in november my ex partner bought me a brand new laptop from littlewoods, a G505s, the AMD quad core, ati 2GB graphics, supposedly the works, anyways after about a month it got really hot and then eventually the screen went blank and would not show any picture, so i contact Lenovo who arranged to collect the laptop and repair it.
    The laptop was received on the 17th of January in germany at there so called repair center, i called them each day to check the status and at first was told to wait the 10 days, then after the 10 days, ui was then told to wait 28 days, then two weeks after the initial contact i was told they would find out how long the parts would take to arrive and so fourth, this went on for weeks. Eventually after nearly four weeks, i was told the parts would take too long and so they would issue me with a returns code if i coudl provide proof of purchase. The problem is the laptop was apresent and my ex girlfreind was not playing ball so thinking that i would have to wait for the laptop to be returned, low and behold i come back from work and there we go, they returned the laptop UNREPAIRED.
    I received a document with it saying that they have diganosed the problem as the motherboard being faulty however they have so called resolved this issue by returning the laptop without being repaired, which i did not ask for them to do, i asked for it to be repaired or replaced under the warranty which they are legally obliged to.
    When i contacted LENOVO about this, i was put through to a rude senior supervisor who was very rude and unhelpful, stating that i had to provide this and when i tried to explain that i was unsatisfied that it had taken so long for this to get brought to my attention he claimed i was being abusive. I asked for an email address to email into and he refused to provide this, i asked to escalate the call, he refused. I think considering i have worked in customer services for over two years i know how these work and there are complaints procedures in which if a complain is not resolved then it gets escalated if the customer requires this however it appears Lenovo and this so called senior does not feel the same way.
    All i want is my laptop replaced or repaired, an email address to send my formal complaint about this member of staff and my outstanding issues resolved, as i was given [email protected]

    are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal  if you hear noise then you need to report a phone fault to 151
    regardless of which ISP you use apart from cable the engineers will be exactly the same as all the lines are owned by openreach and treat all ISPs exactly the same
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Internet Access through TMG for all HO & Branch office

    Dear Experts!,
    I am new to the Forefront TMG 2010. Have requirement to implement internet access.
    Head office : 192.168.11.x/24 (192.168.11.1 is the TMG server)
    Branch Office 1: 192.168.12.x/24
    Branch Office 2 : 192.168.14.x/24
    Branch Office 2 : 192.168.16.x/24
    Forefront TMG 2010 standard edition.
    Having 3 NIC's two have different ISP network addresses and one has 192.168.11.1.
    Branch office are connected using MPLS network, the requirement is all branch site internet must be accessed through TMG 2010 server which is homed in Head Office. How to achieve ?
    What needs to be done in external firewall and in TMG for enabling internet access.

    1 - If you wish to give internet as Proxy to users.
    Ensure the Below subnet is able to reach TMG Internal Interface that is 192.168.11.1
    Subnet
    Branch Office 1: 192.168.12.x/24
    Branch Office 2 : 192.168.14.x/24
    Branch Office 2 : 192.168.16.x/24
    Configuration
    Enable Proxy in TMG and configure Proper Ports as per your requirements
    On the Client IE – Ensure you put Proxy IP as TMG and Port configured in TMG configuration.
    Enable a Rule
    Access Rule
    Source : Internal
    Destination : External
    Ports : HTTP / HTTPS
    Users : Authenticated Users
    2 As normal Internet as Gateway to users
    You need to request your MPLS provider to change the Default Route of below subnet to 192.168.11.1. By doing this, all the internet request from the below subnet to internet will hit TMG.
    Subnet
    Branch Office 1: 192.168.12.x/24 Default Route 192.168.11.1
    Branch Office 2 : 192.168.14.x/24 Default Route 192.168.11.1
    Branch Office 2 : 192.168.16.x/24 Default Route 192.168.11.1
    IF you have any L3 Switch then you can also make Default gateway as L3 for all the subnet and from L3 device point it to TMG
    Enable a Rule
    Access Rule
    Source : Internal
    Destination : External
    Ports : HTTP / HTTPS
    Users : All Users ( Important )
    Two ISP
    In network Rules : You need to use NAT
    You will have a Rule which NATS internal to  External
    On external - Choose which ISP interface should be used  and Apply NAT rule
