Which operator is better: "minus" or "not in"

I have 2 queries below which produce same result, see Case1 and Case2.
My questions are:
1. When it is better to exclude records with MINUS operator, and when with "NOT IN" operator. Maybe we can theoretically answer that question? Maybe MINUS-operator will always be faster than "NOT IN"? Can you explain when to use which of those?
2. Why Case1 produces different row order than Case2?
Case1:
with T as
(select 1 ID, 'COMPLEX EXCLUDE CONDITIONS' CONDITION from dual union all
select 2 ID, 'INCLUDE' CONDITION from dual union all
select 3 ID, 'INCLUDE' CONDITION from dual)
select ID from T
minus
select ID from T
where CONDITION = 'COMPLEX EXCLUDE CONDITIONS'
2
3
*/Case2:
with T as
(select 1 ID, 'COMPLEX EXCLUDE CONDITIONS' CONDITION from dual union all
select 2 ID, 'INCLUDE' CONDITION from dual union all
select 3 ID, 'INCLUDE' CONDITION from dual)
select ID from T
where ID not in
   (select ID from T
where CONDITION = 'COMPLEX EXCLUDE CONDITIONS')
3
2
*/

Hi,
MINUS does two full table scans & removes matches after whereas NOT IN does a full table scan of table 1 then for each row it searches through table two...assuming you have two proper tables e.g.:
TABLE1: 20,000 rows in 1000 blocks
TABLE2: 10,000 rows in 500 blocks
Reads required for minus:
Full scan of TABLE1 = 1000 blocks
+
Full scan of Table2 = 500 blocks
= 1500 reads
Reads required for NOT IN:
Full scan of TABLE1 = 1000 blocks
20,000 lookups in TABLE2 = 20,000 x (depth of index on TABLE2)
= 21,000 at least
So a lot more work is done with NOT IN. Taken from here. Note the gets:
SQL> select count(*) from
  2  ( select object_id from t1
  3    minus
  4    select object_id from t2

  • Which operator  should i used for loading not matched records

    HI ALL,
I am just evluate OWB tools.
    and i met a question.
I need to join two tables A and B with Condition A.id=B.id
    For example,
    A has 1000 records, and B has 100 records,
what i need to do is
    (1) to get matched 100 record from B to a new table C,
(2)to get the not matched 900 records from A to another table D.
By the requirement like above, which operator could i use for?
I tried to use joined but can not get the record of (2).
    Thanks for your attention.
    Regards

    Hi,Sutirtha
    Thanks for your attention.
because joiner has only one output group.
so what you mean is use joiner operator twice?
One joiner userd to get the matched records,
and the other used to get unmatched records?
    Thanks
    Rachel

  • I am a sophomore in high school and i am between getting an ipad with a great quality keyboard case or an 11 inch macbook air. Which is a better suited purchase? I do not want to make the wrong purchase!

I would like some input on which might be better suited for a sophmore in high school because I do not want to make the wrong purchase. I have apple products so I know how they work, so I have no problem in that area!

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The iPad does not do Java or Flash. So you may have issues using it on many  websites. There are web browsers for iPad that try to be work arounds for this, there is mixed reviews as to how well that they work.

We are receiving following error, while trying to deploy the application on Win Phone emulator. “Windows Phone Emulator is unable to connect to the Windows Phone operating system: The phone did not respond to the connect
request. Some functionality might be disabled.”
I have tried all possible ways that we found on blogs. We are still not able to solve this issue

I have had a lot of issues with the emulator in the past.
Check out this troubleshooting guide. It might help:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj681694(v=vs.105).aspx
Also, I find that if I cancel my build/deploy while it is stuck on booting the OS and then wait a short while the phone OS will complete booting, and from that point I can deploy to the emulator. It's a workaround, but it works well for me.
I need to do that on Windows 10 tech preview, which may or may not be simply an incompatibility with the beta OS.

Which operating system are you running? It might still be running in the background. You may want to check your Task Manager or Activity Monitor. Or better yet, if you feel uncomfortable with that, try logging out of your user account, then back in. That might kill any stray processes.

  • Which operating system is best for computer control using LabVIEW

I am using LabVIEW 7.1 and want to write a program to control a system of pumps, heaters, and  compressors.  I am wondering if using Windows XP is a bad thing, given how many background processes computers tend to use these days.  I don't want my computer to slow down for intermittant checking for updates, or any other sort of routine maintenance computers are set up to do.  I have heard mixed things about windows reliability and computer control, most of which is people saying windows could crash and completely ruin my tests.  Does anyone have any advice on the best operating system to use for continuous computer control of my system?

If you plan on using a desktop PC for control type applications, then your best option in terms of performance will be with a Real-Time operating system. Windows is not deterministic for many reasons. Determinism involves the ability to respond to an event within a specified amount of time with an acceptable amount of error (jitter). First of all, Windows is not deterministic because it has to service mouse and keyboard events, as well as anti-virus software, automatic updates, etc.
You can, however, convert an existing desktop PC to a Real-Time target with a Real-Time OS and use it for your control type application with the deterministic behavior of PXI, Compact FieldPoint, and other Real-Time targets. Check out this link for more information.
On a side note to a previous reply, using the LabVIEW Real-Time module on Windows XP won't make your application deterministic. Your best bet, as others have noted, is to use the LabVIEW RT Module on an RT OS with good RT programming practices (avoiding memory allocations, etc.).

    COUNT(OBJECT_NAME) COUNT(OWNER) COUNT(OBJECT_NAME)-COUNT(OWNER)

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.
    good luck

This cannot be determined by users with the info provided, and I'm not sure if Apple would give you this info over the phone if you called AppleCare in the U.S. - for security and privacy reasons.
You need to get this info from the seller. If the seller is unable to give you this info or the correct info, return it to the seller for payment credit and purchase an iPhone in your country from an official retailer and you will have less problems or no problems including not having to hack the iPhone to unlock it which removes all the built-in security making it insecure as with an Android phone.

  • Better privecy does not work with windows vista home prem. what other program removes LSO'S AND HOW can I stop trackers?

    Question
better privacy does not work with windows vista home prem. what other program removes LSO'S AND HOW can I stop trackers? edit
    Details

As a temporary workaround, I believe this Adobe management page allows you to clear your "Flash cookies": [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Storage Settings panel] (hosted on macromedia.com -- Macromedia was the original developer of Flash).
Regarding the script error, if I'm reading the script correctly, it is related to accessing your Flash cookies directory. It seems the publisher's support forum is not currently available for searching, but that might be a good next step.
In the meantime, could you check whether the script has the correct location for your Flash cookies directory? If you can't access Tool > BetterPrivacy, you could check here:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''bpr''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) There should be a bolded setting named '''extensions.bprivacy.DataDir''' which looks approximately like the following:
    C:\Users\''yourWindowsUsername''\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia
Do you have a similar value? If you paste the path used by BetterPrivacy into a Windows Explorer window, does it open? Also, click a couple levels in the folder, can you see:
    Flash Player \ #SharedObjects
If the value is wrong, right-click the wrong value and choose Reset. BetterPrivacy should update the value the next time you try to access it.
If the value is blank, you could try inserting a sensible value and see whether that helps.
    Any luck?

  • SCOM 2012 R2 installing on SQL 2012 SP1 - Error Code: 0x80131904, Exception.Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

    Hi,
I am getting an issue during a SCOM 2012 R2 installation while creating the SCOM DataWarehouse database. Setup seems to timeout during creating the datawarehouse database. I can see all database files created in windows explorer on the SQL server before
setup rolls the SCOM install back.
Has anyone seen this issue before or know how to help resolve it?
Appreciate your help, below is the SCOM installation log:

    Hi,
Based on the log, I recommend you use the following way to test SQL connectivity.
You can use a UDL file to test various connectivity scenarios, create a simple text file, rename the extension from TXT to UDL, fill out the necessary information on the connection tab then test the connection, and troubleshoot as necessary
    if it fails to connect.
For more information, please review the link below:

Which browser is better to use as an option to Safari and how do you safely download it? Thanks

I use Firefox when a site doesn't work well with Safari. Some people like Google's Chrome, but I find it too instrusive and do not trust Google's security. You can download Firefox from firefox.com.

I have a sata II samsung 5400 rpm and i am only able to transfer at 85 read right speed.
On my main drive sata III ocz agility 3 ssd i get 120 mb read and 180 write.
Neither of these come close to the 300 mb promised. So it wont matter if he got sata II or III
The speed came from Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

  • Operation ' Change Attribute TSTATE ' could not be carried out

    Hi All,
When I attempt to compress an infocube I get the following error messages:
@5C\QError@     Operation ' Change Attribute TSTATE ' could not be carried out for Request 1114486
@5C\QError@     Termination in problem report 'RSS2_DTP_RNR_SUBSEQ_PROC_SET' in row '255'
I checked the request 1114486 in infocube and saw that its status is green however the overall status in the load monitor was "deleted".
How can I fix the problem with this request ?
It is a very old request and it was already uploaded to several other targets.
    Thanks in advance..
    Berna

    hi,
It can be due to large data volume which might require more system resources then usual, see if there is any dump related to this in ST22, Also check whether any request is currently running on cubefor data  loaded to cubeor getting load to further targets
try compression for less requests say 3 or 4, see if it works or not
    hope it helps
    regards
