I havent used java for long time. I just want to get the latest compiler. i really don't know what is the latest version and as i saw download section it has a lot of options like JDK and JRE , enterprise and standard etc ...
i just need for windows environment and my practice.
which one to download?

If you start sapinst the first time, you will be logged off your operating system and afterwards prompted for the installation directory of JRE 1.4.latest or 1.5.0_22 (tested).
Do not use 1.6.x! The installation will start, but not finish.

Which operating system are you running? Not sure, click the apple on the left of the menu bar, the click about this mac. It will say version 10.6.x or 10.7.x.

I just bought an external drive to install Red Hat Linux Fedora (which I got from Sams Teach Yourself ...).
Im looking here http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/index.html to decide which version of Oracle 9i I should use.
My new external drive is connected to my laptop, which is an Inspiron 6000.
Any ideas ?

Thanks.Really ... rocket science ain't all that hard. Let's take a look at your rocket science:
if your hardware is 32 bit, any 64-bit stuff will not work.
if your hardware is 64 bit, and you chose a 32 bit operating system, any 64 bit applications will not work (and in this case the oracle database is an application)
if you hardware and your operating system are 64 bit, any 32 bit application or 64 bit application will work as long as you have the correct libraries (DLLs) installed.
then you decide whether the benefit of 64 bit is greater than the overhead of 64 bit
So ...........
if you have an Inspiron 6000 with the Pentium M processor, you may not have 64 bit capability.
if you have a 32-bit Fedora (which you don't bother stating, do you?) you may not have 64 bit capability
if you do not have 64 bit capability, don;t bother with the 64 bit version of Oracle.

In Adobe folio builder panel my version is:

We are using adobe InDesign cs 5.5
I am on a mac and my co-worker is on a PC. I need to find the correct link to the folio producer tools that is v20 so we stay compatiable.

You can use newer tools, they have backwards compatibility. You just need to make sure when creating a new folio that they're set at "v20".
But the 5/4 ones are v20, if you're dead set on having that version of the producer tools.

[Solved] How to specify which version of Java to use?

I have OpenJDK 7 as my default, but I also am trying to use Oracle's Java 7 for a specific program. I have installed jdk7-compat as suggested by the arch wiki, but I am unsure how to use it specifically.
java -version outputs:
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.5.0) (Arch Linux build 7.u60_2.5.0-2-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.60-b09, mixed mode)
so OpenJDK is still the default, which is good. At the same time, how do I use Oracle's Java for a specific program?

You have to create a bash script to execute that program, where you define your Java variables. For example, let's supposed your oracle Java is installed at /opt/java_1.6.14/ folder

export JAVA_HOME=/opt/java_1.6.14/
export PATH=/opt/java_1.6.14/bin:$PATH

Just installed OS X snow leapord on my mac OS X 10.6.8-. which version of garageband can I download and where might I find DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS about using the frickin' thing?? thanks everyone...

Why does everything about garageband gotta be so **** difficult and do the instructions seem kinda "vague" to anybody else.... or is that just me?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated..... ~JH~

You can run GarageBand 6.0.5 on your Mac - the version is described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1507
But you cannot download a full version any longer from the AppSTore, the current App Store version is 10.0.2, and that is incompatible with your system. To get a compatible version, buy an iLife '11 installer from Amazon, or check, if your Mac came with bundled applications on an instller disk.

If you have the IcedTea plugin, then Java will be automatically updated by the OS updates or you can manually try to update via the Software Center / Update Manager. Though not sure if Ubuntu 9.04 is still supported.

How to find the version number of Java compiler used

Is there a simple programatical way to extract what version of Java compiler was used to create a certain class file (the byte code) from within the program?
Actually, by checking the file is ok too.

I installed netBeans IDE 3.5.1 a few weeks ago, but did not change my AUTOEXEC.BAT file for a while.
Then I changed AUTOEXEC file to the following:

SET PATH=C:\Program Files\j2sdk_nb\j2sdk1.4.2\bin
IDE kept working, but DOS stopped recognizing javac command.
After getting suggestions from some people here, I changed the AUTOEXEC to:
SET CLASSPATH=.
SET PATH=C:\Progra~1\j2sdk_nb\j2sdk1.4.2\bin
IDE still works, and I can compile from DOS now.
SDK 1.4.2 must have been installed (or at least unpacked) by IDE 3.5.1.
Does anybody know how to change settings on IDE 3.5.1 to make it use whichever SDK I want to try?

Can anyone help me with this problem of installing Adobe Flashdrive 11, the latest version ? I'm bashing my head against the wall. Started when iPhoto would not load to Facebook and was advised it could be Flashplayer update after troubleshooting other options including deleting extraneous iPhoto files. I uninstalled older version, enabled Java, allowed cookies, downloaded installer but when I try to download it, the install button is grey and won't work. (This is, coindcidentally the same problem that suddenly began today with iPhoto which always worked fine before....grey button for "publish") It is ALWAYS a problem installing Adobe anything, and usually this same problem. All my software updates are current. Now I have NO Flashplayer and can't use YouTube at all, much less iPhoto.

Also, sounds like others are having this problem. Read other posts, didn't find an answer. OBVIOUSLY did not solve my problem. No delete ? First time here, sorry.
