While sharing to iDVD -- computer crashed
Twice in a row, while sharing an iMovie 11 project to iDVD, the computer crashed. How can I gather information to find out why it is crashing?
The first time, when I rebooted, I continued the sharing (presumedly from where I left off), but the output file was way too large.
Platform was MacMini (2.4 GHz) with 10.6.7
Hi
My first thoughts
• free space on Start-up hard disk to low
• free space on target/external hard disk not enough
• corrupted pref filer in iMovie and iDVD
• use of strange material eg .avi, .mp3 etc in project
• hard disk/s need permission repair
• going wrong way from iMovie to iDVD (Share to Media Browser - close iMovie - open iDVD and import from Media Browser within iDVD).
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Delete iMovie pref file
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie7.plist
com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
• Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09 or 11)
• Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• iMovie updated ?
• QuickTime updated ?
• Mac OS version ?
• Program miss-match. iMovie 4 - will not work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.1.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’09 v. 8.0.6, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

I'm using a new Asus netbook and have no idea what caused the crash. I tried restarting firefox in the crash pop up window, nothing happens. I tried quitting firefox and then restarting in the crash window, it sends a report and that's all. I cant open firefox. I have power cycled the computer several times, tried to checking and install all plug ins, re-install firefox, uninstall and then reinstall ( could not reinstall), I restored the computer to the previous day and it still wont open. I tried opening it safe mode, I tried opening the computer in safemode, I still can't open firefox. I also tried to test for a virus by creating a notepad document on the desktop and naming in firefox.exe. Notepad ran fine. I also renamed firefox.exe to firefox3.exe. This didn't work and changed the name back.
What do I do now?
The computer I'm sending this from is not the one that crashedBoth your Conduit Engine, particularly, and Alexa Toolbar are known troublemakers. I would advise Googling both for advice and removal instructions.
I'm not sure it is a good idea to have both Foxit and Adobe Reader. -
Slideshow project shared from iPhoto causes iDVD to crash
I've searched the forum and found a few threads that sounded like they pertained to this issue, but I didn't see much discussion beyond the question or any answers that had confirmations that they solved the problem.
I've created a slideshow project in iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5), and I used the "Send to iDVD" option from the "Share" menu to send it to iDVD '08 (version 7.0.4). The export appears to work, a menu button appears in iDVD, and I'm able to work in iDVD to make changes to the theme, menu text, etc. However, if I try to actually view the slideshow movie in iDVD (either by double clicking on the menu button in the iDVD interface, or by using the "Preview DVD playback" button and then choosing the movie from the DVD menu), iDVD crashes. This is happening consistently. I've gone to my Movies folder and found the exported movie file that iPhoto created. This plays back in QuickTime Player just fine. If I add the movie to my iDVD project manually (as opposed to using the "Send to iDVD" option in iPhoto), it still causes iDVD to crash if I try to preview it.
Out of curiosity I brought a non-iPhoto generated QuickTime movie into iDVD, and it played back with no problem. I checked the compression format. The movie that worked was an Apple Motion JPG A movie file. I tried another non-iPhoto generated QuickTime movie file. This time iDVD crashed again. I noticed that this second non-iPhoto generated movie file said it was using the "Apple MPEG4 Decompressor" which is the same format as the movie file that iPhoto did create. I then tried an Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 QuickTime movie file and that worked just fine. Is that the problem? Apple MPEG-4 Decompressor movie files cause iDVD to crash? Could that really be possible when this is the format that iPhoto uses when exporting? Is there a solution? I don't see a way to select a different compression format when exporting/sharing a slideshow from iPhoto.
I discovered this problem while teaching a class to 12 students who don't know much about doing creative projects on a Mac. There are going to be 12 folks who don't think very much of Apple's computers and/or its software if I don't get this problem solved quickly (last day of class is tomorrow). Everything has been going along swimmingly up until this final step of getting the slideshow into iDVD and then burning it to take home. I'm stunned that this isn't working since I've never run into this problem before, but it's happening consistently with every workstation I've tried here in this lab. All computers are running iLife '08. We're all trying to do the same thing. Slideshow project created in iPhoto, trying to send it to iDVD for burning. I been doing stuff with iPhoto and iDVD for years without problems, so I didn't think I needed to run through an entire process here in this lab before teaching the class. I just expected everything to work like it always does. D'oh!
Help!UPDATE:
In case you're interested.... Just because iDVD crashes when I try to preview my slideshow movie from iPhoto doesn't mean I can't successfully burn my DVD project to disc. I was skeptical, but it works. The burn process went off without a hitch, and the DVD plays back using Mac OS X's built-in DVD Player.
Another workaround is to use the "OneStep DVD from Movie..." option in the iDVD file menu and avoid working inside of iDVD.
Someone suggested that perhaps my trouble was connected to using a legacy theme as opposed to one of the newest 7.0 themes. Any truth to that?
Just because I can burn a DVD successfully doesn't mean I wouldn't still like to fix the crash problem if possible. I'm grateful that I now know that I can work around the crashing problem, but I do think it's something that should be fixed and not just avoided. -
I keep getting the following error message while sharing my iMovie to iDVD. "Unable to prepare project for publishing" error (-2125). I'm running iMovie 09 v. 8.0.6 on a iMac with OSX v 10.6.8, 2Ghz core duo, 1GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM. Any ideas why?
That particular error comes up for a number of reasons, sometimes it's the size of the movie you're trying to export. Bengt Wärleby a longtime contributor to the iMovie Discussion Group has advised a number of people on this error code, so I am going to link to his latest advice he's given to anyone trying to export to DVD from iMovie: Bengt's tips for great DVDs.
Specifically, try bypassing Share to iDVD by using Share to Media Browser instead.
In the Share to Media Browser dialog box choose the Large Size.
When(If?) it gets through that process, quit iMovie altogehter then go to iDVD.
Create a new project and click on the Media button near the lower right hand side of the Project Window.
Then click the Movies button in the Browser window just above that.
Under the iMovie star icon you should see the name of the project you shared out from iMovie.
Drag that into the project and burn the DVD.
If it's still to large or you get the same -2125 error code trying to Share using the Medium size instead. But again if you really get stuck consult Bengt Warleby's User tips:

a while back my computer crashed (hard drive and motherboard:/) im a DJ so its kinda a big thing. my mom has a computer whith itunes on it, i signed on with my account but how do i get the music back. i dont have it on any device, just the hard drive that crashed. can someone please helped i put soooooo much money into those songs a good 4,000 $
please someone helpHi Glenn,
You need to Authorize your Mom's computer to your iTunes sign on. Sign on to iTunes, then go to Store at the top of the screen, and select Authorize this Computer.
Then you can download your purchases from your iTunes library by going to the iTunes Store (the one in the sidebar), Music, and then under Quick Links, Purchased.
Once the Purchased window comes up, select "Not on this Computer", and then select All Songs. Your purchased songs will display with a cloud next to them, and you can download them selectively or "Download All" (lower right-hand corner).
Hope this helps!
Cheers,

Computer crashed while downloading an album
My computer crashed while downloading the new Kings of Leon album and now there are several songs that are not on my computer. I don't want to pay for the songs individuall as they should have been downloaded.
Contact Customer Services, cick on this link you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service. On the form choose Downloading then My Download was interrupted and fill in your comments in the box provided. You could also look at the link on that page "How to resume interrupted download"

When I try to open the shared library on the 2nd computer (the one I want to xfer music to), the only songs that come up are those that are already in that same library (the library on the 2nd computer). While I can see computer #1 listed under 'shared,' when I click on it the only songs I can see are those that I already have on the 2nd computer. Hopefully that makes sense. Basically, the library from computer #1 isn't loading up.
What level of OS X is installed on your Mac (your profile is incomplete)?

My computer crashed while exporting and it won't let me open that catalog
My computer crashed while I was exporting photos and now it won't let me open that
catalog. It says keeps telling me another application has that catalog open and I need to quit the other copy before it will open it. The problem is I don't know what program has it open or how to close it. Help please! It will let me open my other lightroom catalogs.Check your catalog folder. You will find a file called catalogname.lrcat.lock in there, which you can delete. Then restart LR.

My computer crashed while quiting iphoto. When I rebooted my albums and folders had disappeared. How do I get them back? I tried rebuilding the database to no avail. I am using iphoto 5...
Thank you community! Most simple solution: restore from your back up.
Other than that, try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have had recurrent problems with my computer crashing for the past several months that I was not able to fix. I was downloading and installing updates for Firefox when the computer suddenly and completely crashed - just an immediate shutdown. When I was able to reboot it, Firefox would no longer open, and I got the following error message, along with the 'bong' sound or an error: C:\ProgramFiles\MozillaFirefox\js3250.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error...." The crash in the middle of the download corrupted Firefox so that it could no longer be accessed. HOW CAN I RECOVER MY FEW HUNDRED IMPORTANT BOOKMARKS? Any help you can give me with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!! Ron
Do you have a PowerPC processor or an Intel processor?
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and a Mac with an Intel processor.

I will be very happy if someone answers this, 'cos from all the other related posts, my outlook is pretty bleak. At least give me the thumbs up for trying, or a little human contact. Proof this post existed.
Alright, I (fairly) recently updated to windows 8.1on my Samsung quad-core notebook - Model is NP905S3G
For the full info- see the picture.
Anyway, the problem is, that ever since I installed Windows 8.1, if I don't move the mouse for around 1minute when it is on (i.e. I just leave it still for 1 min because I'm typing stuff), it stops working. Moving the mouse simply doesn't do anything. If I look on the 'devices' screen, it is still shown as connected, and I can try re-connecting it, but it doesn't work. Turning on and off doesn't work. Pressing that little blue 'connect' button doesn't seem to do anything normally, and in this case, does nothing. Un-installing and re-installing the mouse does not permanently solve the problem (but does restore connectivity, at least until I leave the mouse idle for too long again)
Currently, once the mouse has stopped moving on the screen, I press the power button (which for me makes my computer sleep). When I do this 1 of 2 things happen; either it goes to sleep as instructed, or it stays on indefinitely, and I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to do an emergency shut-down. This is a pain, especially since nothing is saved, and the computer takes extra-long to turn on the next time.
The real problem is this: about five minutes after the mouse becomes unresponsive, the computer crashes. It is during this five minute period that I can save all my stuff, but if I have been typing non-stop, I may not even notice that the mouse has stopped moving, and so the computer often crashes at unpredictable times. This of course is a major annoyance, and what’s more, sometimes just when I click a link my mouse freezes, and I have to restart my computer or let it crash.
The crash message is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, and comes on a blue screen with a message saying the computer is collecting some error info, and a silly little smiley face. I have come to hate that smiley face.
If you’ve read this far, thank you very much, PLEASE FIND A SOLUTION, MY MOUSE IS PRETTY UNUSABLE AT THE MOMENT
PS. When I feel it is too risky to use a mouse, I use the touchpad. The setting where tapping=clicking really annoys me, and I also don’t like the inverted scrolling. I change these settings on my preferences, but for some reason they are never saved once I turn my computer on. They used to be saved before updating from Windows 8 to 8.1. Any suggestions? Not actually solved. The problem still happens and isn't limited to me or my headset.
I just want this question out of my sidebar and this is the only way to do that! -

I have a simple file in MP4 with a duration of about 45 minutes.
I have not edited it, only add a little movie file (about 30 seconds) at the begin and at the end.
After about 20 hours of sharing process the FCPX crash.
Here the log.
Can somebody help me to understand why a lot of time to share and crash?
Thanks

How can I trash my preferences? FCPX freeze after some seconds it is launched
Why'd you use uncomrpessed? Those mst be really big files and you'll need a fast RAID to play them.
OK. But, in this case the uncompressed file was very small! -
LOL - Update 4.3.1 worked while my computer crashed
Hi there
I spent too much time to get this update working! First I did normal update, and got an error 3194. My phone stucked in recovery mode. After that I tried to recover it (my only clickable option) -> error 1015. Researched a bit and tried some things... recover again -> error 1013.
But the thing is, at least the (IDIOT) apple signing control worked then and see a progress bar on my phone. but after 2/3 of the installation it aborts, phone went to recovery mode and itunes still showed me error 1013.
Then i changed the usb port and retried again. Same here, see progress bar, and then, my computer crashed to a bluescreen. BUT my iphone is still installing and finally finished it CORRECTLY.
I don't know if it was because the usb port or the crash. But if it was the crash which helped. SHAME ON YOU APPLE, just make working software, i paid for that!
Btw. I saw you deleted all my ipsw files - thank you really much! I read some things about, were unable to restore to the actual installed firmware. Why that? I like to install the version i like - and restore from backups i like!
This was my last apple product i'd bought.
greetsBarry Porter1 wrote:

how did I do that?
This forum is just users helping other users. There is no one from Apple here. Did you check to see if you had antivirus/anti spyware programs running when doing the update? these have been known to cause problems.
the signing controls are for your protection.
saw you deleted all my ipsw files
ups sorry then its the wrong place for my anger
but maybe it helps someone -
Computer Crashes while trying to sync iPhone with iTunes
Everytime I try to sync my new iPhone 4 with iTunes it goes thru the backup and then starts with syncing like 3 or 4 songs then the computer crashes Please help
When this has come up before the most common answer was that it was caused by some driver incompatibility - usually to do with printers. You could try turning off your printer and seeing if that helps.
