White Border upper left
Oh, I know this is probably a rookie error, but... My coding knowledge is minimal and I'm trying create a video portfolio for a friend. I'm starting in Fireworks and dropping into Dreamweaver. I've read through endless information and not quite finding the solution to this issue. This is what the page looks like in the browser:
I've seen hints of margin and paddings to be set at zero, but the code is always presented in a manner which is typically different from what I'm seeing in the code.
I'm sure my procedures are all wrong, but I learn with little steps. Your assistance is appreciated.

As a portfolio site we aren't publishing for the public. It is simply serving as a distribution site for particular schools and individuals. My friend will send out links to the url. Otherwise, I would be loading up the tags for SEO and learn to layout more properly. Although, I have to say, it isn't like I haven't been trying. I have attempted to set these up as slices and export to Dreamweaver, but what ever I have been doing has not distributed properly - obviously, operator error. I was really expecting my issues to be elsewhere - which they still are. I have yet to figure out how to properly set-up the flash video.
I always enjoy the challenge of a new experience, but in this case I find the overwhelming amount of material makes it difficult to find the correct approach.

The BIG WHITE MOSTLY BLANK , MOZILLA START PAGE was blocking my use of PRINT PREVIEW, from the orange "Firefox" in the upper left corner.
I was told i was using an out of date version of Firefox.
But no "click here to update".
So i downloaded the new edition of Firefox.
And still, i can not see PRINT PREVIEW, because the large white screen of the MOZILLA START PAGE is blocking it.
I have selected a background wallpaper, so would rather not see ANY of the BIG WHITE START PAGE, at all !!

Every now and then, a weird white box with a keyhole, gear, and lock pops up in the upper left of my screen. I can't seem to close it or move it, and when I try to use another application, it stays there and blocks features. The only way I've found to make it go away is by force closing Firefox.Why does it pop up and how do I close it? I'm on an iMac, Snow Leopard. Have the latest version of Firefox, 10.0.2.

Black screen/white circles in upper left when testing iPad3 Retina app (Air 3.3)
I'm developing for iOS, particularly the iPad 3, on Windows. I downloaded the AIR 3.3 SDK and added it to Flash Pro CS6 per this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4583745#4583745
My app runs fine in Air 3.2 but you can't run apps at Retina resolution with 3.2. If I compile the app with 3.3, it compiles dramatically faster (roughly 10x faster) but when I try to run it on the iPad, all it displays is a black screen, with five small white circles in a horizontal line in the upper left corner of the screen. The circles are animated like an old console progress indicator, cycling through showing one, two, three, four, then all five of them.
I've tried Googling this but if I search "white dots" I get dead pixels, and a bunch of miscellaneous unrelated results if I search "white circles". Does anyone know what might cause this issue or a solution for it?It turns out you have to enable SWC in the Publish settings for a Retina/iOS5.1 app to work. You don't need the SWC under AIR3.2.

I get the same thing... no matter what site i try to pull a pdf for IE10, it gives me the black x... if i use chrome it works, but my client does not want to use a different browser.
I followed the guide that Pat posted... nothing worked... I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java, Adobe reader, Adobe flash,.. upgraded to IE11, then back to IE10 due to medical software that is not compatable with IE11...
The kicker is that my Admin profile works just fine.. no issues.. so i know it has something to do with his profile....

White spot in upper left hand corner appears when changing apps since iOS7
When I upgraded to iOS7 on my iPhone 4S a bright white spot started to appear in the upper left corner when I change apps. It is random when I happens. I was hoping it would stop when I moved to the 5s, but it is still happening. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks!
diesel: Please read the experience others had before advising. The person above even changed his phone. THe only thing that fixed it for him for was not migrating his apps, while the solution is not that extreme, it is related to the app icons you have.
This is an issue with the apple zoom feature when you open apps. Depending on which app icon is where on the screen makes a difference. Reseting, rebooting, updating are no help if the icons are still in the same place.
To reproduce on any iphone 5/5s with ios 7 place the google maps app in the second row and second column of the first page. Open the yelp app, not from the multi-tasking screen, but search for it in the search bar and open it. you'll see a disc on the top right corner. Also, when you close the app by pressing the home button, you'll see it again.

White Screen with "1, unknown word_" in upper left corner
I was attempting to reinstall system software (original was 8.1, upgraded to 9, and then 10) to this old computer so that I could give it away without giving away my personal info -- it seemed no matter what, it kept asking me for my password on restart.
God knows what I did next (because I tried EVERYTHING!) but now all I get is a white screen with "1, unknown word_" showing up teeny in the upper left corner of the screen.
Real problem is, I can't get it to start up from any of my old system CDs -- I'm thinking that maybe it's not recognizing my USB port for the keyboard? (installed in one of the PCI slots -- not original hardware).
USB keyboard always worked fine BEFORE I tried to re-install software. Unfortunately, I burnt out my old ADB keyboard so that's an unavailable alternative....
Any suggestions on how to get it up & running? I would just as well trash it, but there's a nonprofit I know that could actually use it...

If you can't temporarily borrow one, you might consider buying one:

I'm sure there are other Mac stores where you could find a ADB keyboard, check for ads in the back of your favorite Mac magazine.
Now, when you did the OS installations/upgrades, did you select an option that preserves the existing User accounts rather than a clean installation? I don't know why else you would get prompted for your password unless that was the case. One option to completely erase the disk before the OS install is to run Disk Utility, it's usually available from the Menu Bar when the installer first starts. If you truly want to wipe the HD clean of any info, select the Zero All Data option, which might take a while for a 4GB drive. -
White pixel appearing in screen in upper left corner when using fullscreen

Whenever I use fullscreen a white pixel will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
The pixel is also appearing in a screenshot, so it must be software.
Last week I did a clean install on my mac, and only put my files back (not the preferences). But I have the same problem again.
When I delete the loginwindow.plist and log off and in again, the problem is gone. But will reappear when my mac will go to sleep and wake again (or restart).
Can anybody help me fix the problem?

Resetting the PRAM fixed this for me.
Resetting PRAM:
Start up computer hold down CommandOption+PR
Hold until 2nd startup sound

Why is there a blank/white graphic on firefox 4's upper left corner just beside the menu button?
After upgrading from FF3.6, I noticed at the upper left corner of FF4 that a small graphic a few pixels was not rendered properly and showed up like a small white blank square.
I have disabled the Firefox Tab add-on I think it was and it worked. No more white box for me ^_^

Just tried setting up bootcamp on 2014 MacPro 13" laptop. Computer now boots to white screen before going to black screen with curser in upper left corner. Can anyone get me back to Mac operating system so I can start over again?

My PDF has a half inch white border on the left when I open it in firefox
My PDF has a half inch white border on the left, as though the margins were inset by a half inch. But when I open up the PDF in Adobe Reader or Safari, it displays with borders as I need them.
For instance, the cover page, which is green, has a half inch border on the left.Firefox might be reserving space for the sidebar that shows the page selection.

New white macbook, moire pattern in upper left
we bought this from the store on Friday so it's brand new. in the upper left of the screen, there is a subtle moire pattern that fades as you go right and down on the screen. it's faint, but it drives me crazy when i use it - but my wife (it's her computer) doesn't notice/mind it.
is this a bad display or a bad driver? i've never seen anything like this or heard of it happening. i can't imagine that it's being dithered like this. it's running 10.5.7 w/ all of the available updates installed.Without seeing it, it's hard to say. But, as you've just purchased it, I would suggest that you immediately bring it back to have it looked at. Where ever you purchased it from, they should have floor models that you can look at to make a comparison. It's best to bring it back right away as that makes it obvious that the problem was there out of the box and you'll be more likely to get a replacement vs. a repair if there is a problem.

On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?
I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!

White border problem when zooming with SWF in PDF

I'm having problems with zooming whedn trying to create a PDF with SWF inserted.. at certain levels of zoom I get a white border on the left and right of the document which squashes the content into the middle and makes it a little pixelated. I also get a thin white border on the right when zooming out. Does anyone have any ideas where I might be going wrong?

EmNot wishing to be rude, but that workflow is not supposed to be used that way.
InDesign's ability to export SWFs is intended for showing the file in a Web page, and Acrobat's ability to embed SWFs is only intended for small annotations placed within the pages of a conventional PDF file. By placing the entire Layout as a SWF you are in effect playing the entire thing as a movie in Flash Player - all the advantages of the PDF format are completely lost, there is no vector-rendering of any content or text, and users will find it very hard to understand what's going on (the navigation buttons in Acrobat or Reader will not work, text is not searchable or accessible, multiple pages cannot be printed, etc.).
It's not entirely trivial to do this 'correctly', as at the moment we don't have full support in the PDF standard for all the interactive features that InDesign can apply to page objects - that's why they are grouped into PDF and non-PDF in the various selection menus in InDesign. Rather than saving as a SWF you should be using Export to Interactive PDF, and ensuring that the various interactive items and media are all selected on the export dialog.
Basic stuff such as links and video will export just fine that way, and the PDF will preserve everything else in the Layout as native text or graphics so it'll look fine, navigate properly and be searchable. Animations and buttons will not work as expected, so you may have to revise their behavior if PDF is your intended output destination. -
