Why am I having performance Issues with an upgrade from CS2 to CS5.5?
I am struggling hard with an upgrade from InDesign CS2 to CS5.5 (part of CS5.5 Design Standard)
There is a very slow response when trying to produce a 45 page document which needs many .jpeg images inserting, sometimes up to six on each 3-column page. While InDesign behaves sort of normally on text only pages, it slows to a virtual standstill when on the pages with images. (But this is what its for and I didn't have this problem with CS2!!)
Having read through some of the postings on this topic I have followed all the advice without success :-(
1) disable LSD in Preferences – Interface
2) disable thumbnail display in Pages
3) adjust view settings to Typical with Raster and Vector Images greyed out
4) disable Save Preview Images with Documents
5) check Links before opening documents
7) switch Preflight off
I shouldn't need to do all this should I???
I am operating with the following:
Packard Bell ixtreme M5740 64 bit
Intel Core i5 CPU [email protected]
4.0 GB RAM
ATII Radeon HD5570 graphics card 2779 MB available memory, 1024MB dedicated
plenty of free space – 274GB on c: drive and 296 GB on a D: drive
My hardware conforms to/exceeds the Indesign recommended hardware spec. Oh yes I am working on my local drive and I don't have these problems with Photoshop or Illustrator CS5.5.
Has anyone an idea about what's going on?
I've lost a good 6-8 hours so far trying to sort it out. Any help and observations will be gratefully received!
Hi Peter
Thanks - I've found that the files were marked as 'hidden' and thus by switching them on gain I was able to recreate the original location. Regrettably this has had absolutely no effect on my problem. :-(
I have now created a fresh document, studiously linking all my images properly (similar number to a DK 'Eyewitness Travel Guide') and by the time I got halfway through its 80 pages, InDesign had slowed to a crawl - ie 15-20 seconds to respond to any command. It is clearly doing something that it thinks necessary despite all the 'workarounds' people have suggested. Please please Adobe what's going on???

I only have the desktop layout. As I was having such problems with the tablet and phone layouts. However there are banners and footers not reaching the edge of the screen. This is only a problem when accessing the site via a phone or tablet.
the site is www.excellententertainment.biz
Cheers
HughieDo a Select all on your pages (Most likely a master page if it effects all pages) and you will likely find an empty element or element that extends past the design edges in your desktop design.

Usage type issue with PI upgrade from 7.01 to 7.11
Hi guys,
We are currently performing an upgrade on our PI system.
We are upgrading from PI 7.01 to PI 7.11 and we've come cross an issue during the prepare phase of the install.
An error has occurred during the execution of the CHECK_SUPPORTED_SOURCE_USAGES phase.
This upgrade doesn't support upgrade of sap.com/MI usage detected on the source system.
You can find more information in the log file /usr/sap/PI3/upg/java/log/CHECK_SUPPORTED_SOURCE_USAGES_SSU_01.LOG.
Use the information provided to troubleshoot the problem. An SAP Note may provide a solution to this problem. Search for SAP Notes with the following key words: com.sap.sdt.j2ee.phases.PhaseTypeCheckSupportedSourceUsages com.sap.sdt.j2ee.tools.check.NegativeResultException This upgrade doesn't support upgrade of sap.com/MI usage detected on the source system. CHECK_SUPPORTED_SOURCE_USAGES INIT PREPARE NetWeaver Upgrade SAPJup Java Upgrade
When reporting problems to SAP Support, attach the trouble ticket file /usr/sap/PI3/upg/java/log/TroubleTicket_01.txt to your message.
We've looked through the main upgrade notes and they mention which usage types are supported, but they do not mention explicity what usage are not supported, and how to proceed with the upgrade if your system does have one of these non-supported usage types.
Considering our system does contain usage type MI, does this mean that we cannot upgrade our current PI system to 7.11?
Please help!
Thanks,
StephHello
Please see note #1247043 Release Restrictions for EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 - section "Upgrade: source system must be a dedicated PI system".
It is not possible to upgrade an existing system with the usage type MI. Even if you delete the usage type MI (if this is possible) the upgrade will not be possible.

Why am i having this issue with scanner 5590?
Excuse me for my bad English please!!! OK, this scanner is connected to a PC and is shared so we can see all documents, great but here begins the problem:
1- scan documents
2-select format type
3-select PDF
Everything´s OK until that point, but when i try to see the documents scanned
This is what comes up when i try to see with adobe reader(no matter the versions):
ADOBE READER COULD NOT OPEN (name of the file) BECAUSE IT´S EITHER NOT A SUPPORTED FILE TYPE OR BECAUSE THE FILE HAS BEEN DAMAGED (IT WAS SENT AS A E-MAIL ATTACHMENT AND WASN´T CORRECTLY DECODED.
NOTE 1:
If i save the file with only 1 page the file opens and i can see the documents but when i try more than one page comes up the error!!! And if try to send it over the net the receptor can not see it due to the same error!!!
NOTE 2:
Rarely when i try to open the file with foxy reader it opens!!! without any problems.
I don´t know what´s the problem please help!!! It could be the way i´m saving the file? I just reinstalled the drivers and nothing!!! same old sameAdobe Reader is adhering to PDF specifications, while Foxit is not.
Michael was asking for the actual PDF file, not a screenshot of the error message; see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/918624 -
Issues installing CS4 upgrade from CS2?
Hello,
I recently had to replace my hard drive on my Mac and am now in the process of installing CS4 Design Premium. I've downloaded the files from the Adobe website and when attempting to install I enter in my CS4 upgrade serial number and it is accepted. However, when it asks for the upgrade check there is no CS2 option in the product drop down box for me to enter in my CS2 serial number. How do I continue with the installation and get my CS4 working again?
Thanks,

Performance Issue with VL06O report
Hi,
We are having performance issue with VL06O report, when run with forwarding agent. It is taking about an hour with forwarding agent. The issue is with VBPA table and we found one OSS note, but it is for old versions. ours is ECC 5.0. Can anybody know the solution? If you guys need more information, please ask me.
Thanks,
SuryaSreedhar,
Thanks for you quick response. Indexes were not created for VBPA table. basis people tested by creating indexes and gave a report that it is taking more time with indexes than regular query optimizer. this is happening in the funtion forward_ag_selection.
select vbeln lifnr from vbpa
appending corresponding fields of table lt_select
where vbeln in ct_vbeln
and posnr eq posnr_initial
and parvw eq 'SP'
and lifnr in it_spdnr.
I don't see any issue with this query. I give more info later -

Pricing Engine call having performance issues
Hello All,
Morning need some help with this ,, we are having performance issues with the QP Pricing Engine call using seeded API : qp_preq_grp.price_request
We are having Pricing Context setup and have about 20 pricing attributes defined/setup with different values.
The price list is which is passed has a dynamic formula attached to it. This formula makes use of the pricing attributes and factor lists to provide final price.
For the Pricing control record we are passing below mentioned parameters :
p_control_rec.pricing_event := 'LINE';
p_control_rec.calculate_flag := 'Y';
p_control_rec.simulation_flag := 'Y';
p_control_rec.manual_discount_flag := 'Y';
Could someone please assist as to how we could trace or debug this pricing performance issue , means what exactly is causing the pricing call to take time.. Is there any other way other than taking a trace file and geting a tkprof.
meaning could something be analysed or checked within Pricing debug/trace itself to see what is causing the performance to degrade (specific to pricing debug)
ThanksSince you are using a formula to come up with a price, you no longer need the calcualte price flag as 'Y' . Pass as following:
p_control_rec.calculate_flag := 'P'; --- 'Partial Price; indicates that Pricing will not be calculated automatically by the system, but other charges will be'
OR, if you do not need the shipping charges to be calculated as well, pass the value as :
p_control_rec.calculate_flag := 'N';
Please let me know.

Performance issue with transaction MC50
I am not sure where to post this question. If I need to post it in another forum, please let me know.
We are having performance issues with transaction MC50. After reviewing SAP Note 457615 we created an index on mseg with the following fields: MANDT, MJAHR, MATNR, WERKS and SOBKZ.
When running an explain on the sql statement, the database is using a different index. This index has the following fields MANDT, MATNR, WERKS, LGORT, BWART and SOBKZ.
The sql statement is ( sql trace from ST05):
SELECT * from mseg WHERE "MANDT" = '400' AND "MJAHR" BETWEEN 2009 AND 2009 AND "MATNR" = '000000000054001121' AND "WERKS" = 'SAT' AND "SOBKZ" IN ( 'K' , 'V' , 'W' , 'O' , ' ' )
Is there any way to force the database to use the newly created index.
Thanks....Tommy

Edited by: Tommy Knight on Dec 8, 2009 3:08 PMHello Tommy,
at first your database release and patchset is missing.
If you are using Oracle 10g, the advice of Peter is useless, because of statistics are automatically collected by a CREATE INDEX.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_5010.htm#i2075657
COMPUTE STATISTICS
In earlier releases, you could use this clause to start or stop the collection of statistics on an index. This clause has been deprecated. Oracle Database now automatically collects statistics during index creation and rebuild. This clause is supported for backward compatibility and will not cause errors.
The other thing is - are you really sure that this SQL statements was executed with literals?
I know that on MSEG (with histograms) it is recommended sometimes, but i just want to be sure.
If you want us to help you - we need much more information .. please check sapnote #1257075 and upload the information to a webhosting platform, so that we can take a look at it.

need help with premiere pro cs6 having performance issues please help
Welcome to the forum.
First thing that I would do would be to look at this Adobe KB Article to see if it helps.
Next, I would try the tips in this ARTICLE.
If that does not help, a Repair Install would definitely be in order.
Good luck,

Not Updating Customized Table when System having Performance Issue
Hi,
This is actually the same topic as "Not Updating Customized Table when System having Performance Issue" which is posted last December by Leonard Tan regarding the user exit EXIT_SAPLMBMB_001.
Recently we changed the program function module z_mm_save_hide_qty to update task. However this causes more data not updated. Hence we put back the old version (without the update task). But now it is not working as it used to be (e.g. version 1 - 10 records not updated, version 2 with update task - 20 records not updated, back to version 1 - 20 records not updated).
I tried debugging the program, however whenever I debugged, there is nothing wrong and the data is updated correctly.
Please advise if anyone has any idea why is this happening. Many thanks.
Regards,
JanetHi Janet,
you are right. This is a basic rule not to do any COMMIT or RFC calls in a user exit.
Have a look at SAP note 92550. Here they say that exit EXIT_SAPLMBMB_001 is called in the update routine MB_POST_DOCUMENT. And this routine is already called in UPDATE TASK from FUNCTION 'MB_UPDATE_TASKS' IN UPDATE TASK.
SAP also tells us not to do any updates on SAP system tables like MBEW, MARD, MSEG.
Before the exit is called, now they call 'MB_DOCUMENT_BADI' with methods MB_DOCUMENT_BEFORE_UPDATE and MB_DOCUMENT_UPDATE. Possibly you have more success implementing the BADI.
I don't know your situation and goal so this is all I can tell you now.
Good luck!

Hi,
I am having serious performance issue due to BSEG table .I am having a change request in which I have to solve the performance issue with regard to BSEG. The situation was that previously they had used select * on both BKPF and BSEG. I removed the select * and selected only those fields which are required as shown below. I also tried using cursors. But the problem is happening in the TEST server where BSEG is having more than 1 crore entries. I have gone through some threads but still not able to understand how to solve this problem. Please help
select bukrs belnr gjahr bldat bstat from bkpf into table T_BKPF_p
WHERE BUKRS IN sd_bukrs AND
BLDAT < s_bldat-low
and BSTAT = ' ' .
select bukrs belnr gjahr shkzg dmbtr hkont from bseg into table T_BSEG_C
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN t_BKPF_p
WHERE BUKRS = T_bkpf_p-bukrs
AND BELNR = T_bkpf_p-belnr
AND GJAHR = T_bkpf_p-gjahr
AND HKONT = SKB1-SAKNR.Hi Kunal,
Here is my take on your issue.
In your select statement on BKPF you are selecting every BKPF record for a specified company code and blank document status that was created before a specified date. If your company has implemented SAP 10 years ago, and your user enters todays date and leaves the company code field blank you will effectively be retrieving almost all the records from BKPF (excluding the ones created today or those with non-blank document status). This would effectively be a huge amount of data. After that you are looking for the corresponding BSEG records for all the records that you have selected in BKPF.
My question to you is why do you need to look at all the records before a given date? Why not ask the user to enter a smaller date range and make the document date and the company code a mandatory entry? You do not have to look at 10 years worth of data especially if you are running this online (as opposed to in the background).
Your BSEG select looks correct. There is very little that you can do except for adding BUZEI to the field list. If you use for all entries and do not include the entire primary key you could lose data.

Performance issues with dynamic action (PL/SQL)
Hi!
I'm having perfomance issues with a dynamic action that is triggered on a button click.
I have 5 drop down lists to select columns which the users want to filter, 5 drop down lists to select an operation and 5 boxes to input values.
After that, there is a filter button that just submits the page based on the selected filters.
This part works fine, the data is filtered almost instantaneously.
After this, I have 3 column selectors and 3 boxes where users put values they wish to update the filtered rows to,
There is an update button that calls the dynamic action (procedure that is written below).
It should be straight out, the only performance issue could be the decode section, because I need to cover cases when user wants to set a value to null (@) and when he doesn't want update 3 columns, but less (he leaves '').
Hence P99_X_UC1 || ' = decode(' || P99_X_UV1 ||','''','|| P99_X_UC1 ||',''@'',null,'|| P99_X_UV1 ||')
However when I finally click the update button, my browser freezes and nothing happens on the table.
Can anyone help me solve this and improve the speed of the update?
Regards,
Ivan
P.S. The code for the procedure is below:
create or replace

EXECUTE IMMEDIATE l_sql_stmt;
END;Hi Ivan,
I do not think that the decode is performance relevant. Maybe the update hangs because some other transaction has uncommitted changes to one of the affected rows or the where clause is not selective enough and needs to update a huge amount of records.
Besides that - and I might be wrong, because I only know some part of your app - the code here looks like you have a huge sql injection vulnerability here. Maybe you should consider re-writing your logic in static sql. If that is not possible, you should make sure that the user input only contains allowed values, e.g. by white-listing P99_X_On (i.e. make sure they only contain known values like '=', '<', ...), and by using dbms_assert.enquote_name/enquote_literal on the other P99_X_nnn parameters.

Performance Issues with large XML (1-1.5MB) files
Hi,
I'm using an XML Schema based Object relational storage for my XML documents which are typically 1-1.5 MB in size and having serious performance issues with XPath Query.
When I do XPath query against an element of SQLType varchar2, I get a good performance. But when I do a similar XPath query against an element of SQLType Collection (Varray of varchar2), I get a very ordinary performance.
I have also created indexes on extract() and analyzed my XMLType table and indexes, but I have no performance gain. Also, I have tried all sorts of storage options available for Collections ie. Varray's, Nested Tables, IOT's, LOB's, Inline, etc... and all these gave me same bad performance.
I even tried creating XMLType views based on XPath queries but the performance didn't improve much.
I guess I'm running out of options and patience as well.;)
I would appreciate any ideas/suggestions, please help.....
Thanks;

Performance issues with 0CO_OM_WBS_1
We use BW3.5 & R/3 4.7 and encounter huge performance issues with 0CO_OM_WBS_1? Always having to do a full load involving approx 15M records even though there are on the average 100k new records since previous load. This takes a longtime.
Is there a way to delta-enable this datasource?Hi,
This DS is not delta enabled and you can only do a full load. For a delta enabled one, you need to use 0CO_OM_WBS_6. This works as other Financials extractors, as it has a safety delta (configurable, default 2 hours, in table BWOM_SETTINGS).
What you should do is maybe, use the WBS_6 as a delta and only extract full loads for WBS_1 for shorter durations.
As you must have an ODS for WBS_1 at the first stage, I would suggest do a full load only for posting periods that are open. This will reduce the data load.
You may also look at creating your own generic data source with delta; if you are clear on the tables and logic used.
cheers...
