Why AWT apps are faster than Swing apps?

I have written applications using both AWT and Swing. While running under Windows, I feel that AWT apps are much faster and smoother. In contrast, Swing apps fare terribly. Regardless, I can not go back to AWT because of thier limited capabilities.
I love Java APIs, it is great for programmer. But what about the consumers? Consumers do not care whether it is written in Java or Visual C++?
I am having a mid-"programming" crisis. I do not want to but, but would be forced to use VC++ for desktop apps abandoning Java.
I would like to know if you are a serious desktop programmers, what is your motivation for using Java, not VC++ or something?

well, for me, it's that one it's Platform Independent. and that does come in handy when your work uses macs instead of normal PCs. Second, it's free to use, unlike VC++ and Pseudo Code (Visual Basic), you don't have to pay unbeleivably large sums of money to get a good compiler. And then there's the whole "Swings Apps are Slower", yes they are, however, if you program them write, they only take a while to initialize, once that is done they run as fast as any Native Program unless you have a tremendous amount of calculations and dynamic generation of components. And also the no Excecutables, true, and... not true, creating a Jar File is almost the same as making a making an EXE, only Jar Files are... platform independent.... and unlike C++ which gives you enough rope to run around the world three times, jump over the moon and hang yourself for actually using it, Java is a clean programming language, not a whole lot of those nasty characters and styles that ugly up your code. at least these are the reasons why i pick Java as the language to come out on top of all others.

Make sure you are signed in with your Apple ID. Try reindexing Spotlight.

Try this:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

The Single App CreativeCloud package says there are "select apps" (not all apps) in this package. What is the list of those apps? And how are the services "limited" in this package?

I see what you're saying though. i.e. Subscribe to an app and get selected apps (which ones? Cloud lite?) along with it. But that's not the offer as I understand it. It's for a one app subscription only. Perhaps Adobe's wording could be clearer.

Palm Pre - Only free Apps are showing in my Apps Catalog

I just got my pre the other day. I've already verified my profile, updated my OS to 1.4, and everything seems to be working fine, but for some reason only Free apps are showing in my catalog. It's kind of strange because both my husband and I got Pres, and both are updated, but for some reason, his phone shows all the other apps (including the ones you can pay for). Is there some sort of setting that i need to change on my phone?
Notes: we're in Canada, and our carrier is Bell.

Yay! I got it to update my catalog. Just had to update and verify my palm profile (another long story), and then do a triple reset, and now everything is working fine and dandy : )

Why does audio run faster than video after burning my iMovie project in iDVD?

I created a project in iMovie HD and shared it to iDVD 6. When I played the finished disc, I noticed that the audio ran much faster than the video. I rechecked my movie and audio clips in iMovie to make sure they were matched correctly, and I saw no problem there. I burned the disc again through iDVD and got the same problem when I played it in a DVD player.
I have never had this problem before and I've been working on dvd projects all week. I think the only difference with this movie project is that I had movie clip audio and background audio playing at the same time at some parts of the movie, but I don't know if that's the issue.
Any suggestions?

And just to add to OT-s brilliant suggestions - really - Do a Save as a DiskImage ! IMPORTANT !
• When free space goes down on the Start-Up hard disk to 5Gb or less - strange things occurs - Yes even audio out of sync - to not working DVD at all.
I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space when using SD-video to iDVD - if HD material I would guess 4-5 times more as it has to be re-calculated into SD and this needs space.
DVD - is as standard SD-Video (as old time CRT-TVs) - even if You use DVD-Studio Pro or iDVD or Roxio Toast™ - That's what it is and using HD material doesn't improve a bit (may be even give a lesser result)

Why is Maps more precise than SDK apps? [iPhone]

I'm using Core Location Manager with best accuracy and get latitude and longitude. When I call Google Maps with the lat/long values I get a marker pretty close to where I really am.
If, however, I use the build in iPhone Maps application I get the PRECISE location, which is some hundred meters from what my own app yields.
I'm running on an iPhone 3G.
Does anybody know:
- Whether Maps uses internal APIs not available via the SDK?
- What is the appropriate way to "enforce" GPS over cell tower location resolving (CLManager)
- Any other hints re this issue

I have the same issue. My iTunes library and iPad mini both say they have 2215 songs but my iPhone 5s says it has 2225. All devices are set to sync entire iTunes music automatically. I do not understand how I have more songs on my iPhone than my entire iTunes library. Please help.

Do JavaFX applets tend to download faster than Swing applets?

Historically, the biggest concern with Java applets is that they take too long to download.
Is it true that JavaFX applets will download faster?
In particular, by using CSS properties instead of all the Swing method calls, will JavaFX applets tend to be smaller and download faster (since the browser, not the bytecode, will do the work of translating the CSS code to graphics commands that the operating system can understand)?

I do not think size is the main issue for startup.
It is only applicable to cold start (i.e. first launch) as on subsequent launches jars will be coming from cache.
And it does not impact much "perceived" startup as typically application can appear to be "live" earlier than it is fully loaded
(e.g. using preloaders).
For the warm start scenario it is still the same plugin but
a) JavaFX applications are by default deployed in a way to minimize number of network connections
b) JavaFX toolkit is initialized instead of AWT/Swing
This gives JavaFX fundamental benefit over "Swing applet" scenario but ...
a) it does not magically make it instant as jvm still need to be started, etc.
(if your application is slow to start as standalone it will not be starting instantly in the browser)
b) JavaFX runtime and Java deployment code may have bugs that lead to suboptimal performance
Best is to give it its own try and see if it is fast enough for you.

All of my apps are missing in the apps panel and it says download error

When I open my apps panel, it says download error and wants me to reload the apps. However, it won't work. I was trying to download After Effects and it did download and now it won't work.

I will provide you the steps to resolve the issue for Mac operating system .
Please follow the below steps :
Close Creative Cloud Application (up right corner, click on the cog menu and then "Quit Creative Cloud").
From Finder, click Go > Go to Folder at top in Menu bar
Type ~/Library/Application support/Adobe and hit return.
Rename the folders 'AAMUpdater' and 'OOBE' to 'AAMUpdaterOLD' and 'OOBEOLD'.
From the Finder, click Go > Go to Folder.
Type /Library/Application support/Adobe and hit return.
Rename AAMupdater, folder to AAMupdaterOLD
Launch your Creative cloud desktop.
Introduce your CC credentials.
Select install/update applications.
Hopefully it will work for you. If it does, then you can remove the folders that you renamed as <something>OLD.
I assume that for Windows users, the steps are different , if you are using Windows OS, please follow the below steps :
Hold Windows + R key from your keyboard.
It will open into a run window.
In RUN application type: %localappdata%
Next, navigate: \Local\Adobe\OOBE
Rename OOBE as OOBE.old
Then, Navigate to C:Program files/Common files/Adobe(32 bit) or C:Program files(X86)/Common files/Adobe folder.
Rename AAMupdater folder and try signing to Creative Cloud desktop application.
If you face same issue again, please reply back .

Certain apps are repeatedly launching the App Store

Starting a couple of days ago, I have been having an issue with strange behavior in three gay dating apps: Grindr, Jack'd and Scruff. It happened initially in Grindr and then seemed to spread to Jack'd and Scruff.
I am using an iPad 2 with the latest iOS update. My iPad has never been jail broken and I've only ever installed apps from the App Store.
The behavior sometimes occurs as soon as I open the app and other times I can open it and use the app for a couple of minutes before the behavior happens.
The unwanted behavior is that the App Store is launched, prompting me to download one of the following 7 games:
- Midnight Castle - A Hidden Object Game by Big Fish Games
- Evolution: Battle for Utopia by my.com
- Farmville 2: Country Escape by Zynga
- Jungle Heat by my.com
- Cookie Jam by SGN
- Fairway Solitaire HD by Big Fish Games
- King's Empire (Deluxe)
When this happens, I close the App Store and switch back to the app (e.g., Grindr), but as soon as I switch back I am redirected to the App Store for one of the above 7 games in an endless loop. This renders the app unusable.
I have seen some other posts saying this behavior might be related to scripts in banner ads in the apps, but the three apps affected have different banner ads and it is always the same 7 game apps that I'm redirected to.
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here and how to stop it? I've tried closing and reopening the apps and rebooting the iPad, but this did not have an effect. I stopped using the apps for a couple of days and when I tried again today they were working fine for about an hour or so and then the behavior started again.

Skydiver119 and pjl123, thanks for taking the time to respond, but I really suspect something else may be going on here.
If it was just one app with this behavior, then I would say it's a bad app and stop using it. However, when it starts with three different apps all on the same day, that`s too much coincidence for me. Even if an app developer were somehow in collusion to do something nefarious, it would just be stupid to render the app unusable. That's shooting yourself in the foot.
I know that Apple claims that iOS devices can't get viruses, but this sure feels like a virus to me. It seems to be some kind of "click fraud" (game developers paying someone for number of referrals). I have no idea how the hackers are doing this, but it feels like something running outside the apps that is hijacking them.
