Why did Verizon send me a new Broadband Home Router?

I recently received an unexpected package from Verizon.  The package contained an Actiontec router and a letter with an inadequate explanation of why the new router is require.  It basically said that my current BHR is no longer compatible with their enhanced network and that they encourage me to complete the installation of the new BHR as soon as possible to avoid interruption to my broadband service.  I honestly have no desire to use the Actiontec router and want to continue using my existing router, which is not the original router they had provided.
What I really need to know is the technical reason why I need to change my existing router to the Actiontec router.  That way I can assess the options and decide whether or not I really need to use the Actiontec router.   Do I need a router that supports IPV6?  Or do they want me to change from PPPOE to DHCP?  Or is there some other reason?

Verizon has three Generations of routers.
Rev A-D are the first Generation Routers.   You probably have one of those, and any router above that grade should be a better performing router, and at least longer performing.
Consider it preventative maintenance.
Rev F and above get better wireless performance for example.
IPV6 is a possibility, and Possibly some enhancements to how they deliver the guide or VOD or widgets.
If you don't have TV service, and you use a third party router, then don't worry about it.  They are assuming that you have a Verizon Router, and if you do they care about getting their old stock out of the picture.

  • Why did Verizon suddenly disable my RIMS gps

This is outrageous. AND in my opinion illegal, as when I 'signed up' for  2 years, that app was part of the program.
    Does anyone know a workaround?
Just FYI, yes have checked my settings and all are as they should be.  This happened after a 'forced' download.  Then when I went  to my blackberry desktop, it too was forced to take a download before I could restore any apps.  Naturally, the GPS maps was disabled.
Whom do we complain to?  Anybody going to do a viral youtube spot?????
Any ideas if RIMS can do anything about it?

I did look but will look again.   It is BIS.  Google maps seems to work.  I downloaded it earlier today.
I have just looked through every folder and menu I can find. And, I did download it from the RIMS site two times. Same thing.
Good thing is that Google maps works, that means that your GPS locator system is operating properly.  I assume the program you are missing is "Blackberry Maps".  If so, Google Maps is a good alternative (some will say better) application.
As to why it was not loaded on your update, I don't know.  You may want to try and reload your OS and make sure that you select Blackberry Maps in the apllications selections section.

  • Why did my Macbook create a new desktop?

Hi. My Macbook either created a a new desktop in Mission Control or changed the wallpaper of one of them. Any thoughts on why this may have happened?

Backup first and then try deleting the 7th desktop. If there was an application assigned there, you can always add it back. Hover the cursor over the desktop to delete it.
I agree it is odd, because all my desktops have the same background. Troubleshooting can take awhile.

  • Why did my sync with my new phone bring in such old data from my apps

I recently upgraded from a 3GS to a 5S. Before activating the 5S, I synced my 3GS in iTunes. When I activated the phone and did my first sync with it, the data in all of my apps that store data was very, very old. I use Calengoo, for instance. The calendar that was imported to my new phone looked as if I'd last updated it in September 2013, despite the fact that I back up and sync that calendar regularly. My online google calendar was up to date, so I could rectify that situation without much effort.
I also use a reminder program called Due. The reminders that were imported were similarly the ones I'd had in the phone last fall.
I use Balance Pro to keep track of my bank balances. The accounts and information in that app are also very old.
I still have the apps and current info stored on my old 3GS. Is there any way for me to import them to my new phone so that I don't have to manually re-enter all that data?
As a side note, some of the apps on my old phone were not transferred to my new phone at all. Google maps and IMDb are the two that I recall off the top of my head.
    Thanks for any help,
    Chris

  • Why did Verizon come to the Alaska market when their coverage is so poor?

Even while using the phone in Anchorage, I continually receive a message that my phone is roaming to ACS's service.  I took my first road trip after signing up for Verizon and my coverage is extremely poor on the Seward and Sterling Hwys.  When I queried Verizon they stated that they only have 3G outside Anchorage.  Additionally, when I queried about Homer and Kenai/Soldotna service they stated they had "limited service" 4G LTE, in Kenai and possibly Homer.  This is in direct conflict with the information I was given prior to signing up.The techs on phone stated "that their data service was much better and the coverage more thorough".
I had better coverage and data with ACS. I will be returning my devices and having discussions with State folks about false advertising.
Beware study before you sign up.

I have the new iPhone 6.
I have talked to telephonic customer support twice to no avail.  Please view my file.
Even while in Anchorage, often when I attempt to make a call I get a message that I am roaming on ACS's network and must use the area code while dialing a number.
Further, on leaving the Anchorage area I drop to 3G or 1x service.  when trying to use my hotspot, I get 3G or 1x service in Homer.
I specifically stated I needed 4G coverage and was told that Verizon had agreements and I would have complete service.  I realize Verizon is just moving into Alaska and has some tuning to do, but I am paying full price, therefore expect full coverage.  Further, while dealing with this issue I receive email notice that my phone bill was due -$190.17.  This was a shock as I only had the phone 1 week, was told that may monthly bill would be $100.00.  So on checking, telephonically, since new hotspot internet connection was all but non-functional, I was told I had 2 device activation fees on this bill.  Again quite a shock since I was told Verizon was forgoing activation fees to set up it's new Alaska customers.
So yes, you are in the process of losing me as a customer.  I feel I have been deceived, lied to, and scammed.

  • Why did FIOS send a bill to an alternate email address?

I prefer to receive a paper bill and pay by check.
    What's going on?

Just a friendly reminder, this is a forum where users help other users. It looks like your issue may require a Verizon representative to review your account details. Please contact our customer service team via live chat or email at:

  • So, Adobe downloader sends me a window that says "contact Customer support". That appears to be impossible. Why did you send the message if there is no way to communicate with you. This is a very poor way to treat your paying customers.

I don't want to start a discussion. I just want a phone number for customer support. Is that really impossible?

Alacatr I am sorry you are facing difficulty contacting our support team.  I would recommend that you utilize a different web browser, computer, smart phone, or tablet, to contact our support team at Contact Customer Care.
If you are receiving a download error then there may be an issue with the stability of your Internet connection.  This could also affect your ability to contact our support team.  I would recommend reviewing Error downloading Creative Cloud applications - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/error-downloading-cc-apps.html for information on how to resolve download errors.

  • Why did Apple send me a password recovery email to an email I never tied to my Apple ID?

I needed to change my password so I submitted a password recovery request. I was emailed to an account I don't think I ever associated with my Apple ID. When I check my Apple ID settings, this particular email doesn't show up in either primary or alternate email addresses. Even more perplexing, just a few weeks ago I had to change my password, and my correct email, the one tied to my apple id, was sent the reset link.
    What could be causing this?

Somewhere along the way something had to have been purchased to link that email address, or some account was setup using it.  Have you gone through the AppleID FAQ parts about Managing your Account?  You might also try using the ExpressLane if all else fails: https://expresslane.apple.com and then iTunes and iTunes Store since the ID goes through the iTunes Store.

  • Why did Mail send a message unasked?

Checking my mail the other day I heard the Mail Gone sound although I had no mail scheduled to go. When I checked the Sent folder there was no record of any mail having been sent. I'm a bit suspicious of a bug and checking through various folders came across something called 'pkcs11.shlb' in Library/Applications Support/Mozilla. Should this be there? What exactly is it?

Hi ernie, thanks for your speedy reply. That sounds reassuring, though I don't have firefox. I opened a copy of the document using TextEdit and it started off with the word 'Joy!' before it got into all its code which was what made me think it could be some kind of virus. I've tucked the original document away somewhere safe while I wait to find out if it does belong to the system...

  • Why did I crash on the new itunes update?

I just updated itunes yesterday.  Since then I can't backup to my computer.  Ended up losing everything on my iPad2.  Need a simple answer since I'm barely computer literate.........
    Thanks.

Also consider the following approach.  I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed.  It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4).  Please see and follow the procedure in the following article:http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reverting-previous-version-itunes-32590.html   The previous version works beautifully.

  • SOLUTION: Sending mail through BT Broadband home WiFi + O2 3G (UK)

This was really hacking me off this morning so I decided to pin it down. If like me you're often at home (sometimes with a poor connection to O2) and need to use WiFi to send mail then you need two SMTP server accounts setup under iPhone mail. Problem is that BT don't seem to have a readily accessible SMTP server. So...
Use your BT Yahoo email account to access Yahoo's SMTP server as in:
    smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    SSL authentication
UN: my BT Yahoo email address
    PWD: my PWD
I set this as ‘ON’ along with the O2 SMTP service.
This is one solution, there may be others... its also MUCH slower than sending mail on e.g. a MacBook Pro on the same network. Apple could help more here... and setting up non-SSL for additional SMTP servers as well as their respective port settings doesn't seem possible on 3G, 3.1

  • Why does Verizon shuffle arond local channels?

    I have a question.
Now, I currently have DirecTV but I've been thinking about getting Verizon FiOS when it is finally available in my area.  One thing though that I'm noticing about Verizon is they appear to be doing this same crazy practice that the local Cable Companies does... It drove me crazy all the time...  Basically, it is where they shift all the local channel numbers around so you have to keep stopping to think about where the channel has been moved to.
For example in the Boston, the local terrestrial channels are like this.
    2(WGBH), 4(WWBZ), 5(WCVB), 7(WHDH), 11(PBS New Hampshire), 25(WFXT), ... 44(WGBX), 56(WLVI) 62, 68,etc. Simple enough.  Now thankfully DirecTV keeps this same pattern...
However on Verizon for say the city of Belmont, MA (Zipcode "02476") the channel lineup is like this.. 38 comes in on 3. 25 comes in on 8. 56 jumps to 12...  etc.  No kind of normalcy basically....
Why did Verizon do this????I see they already have channels going over 1000 so why didn't they vacate 0-99 nationally so the local channels can fall into their correct slot and then start the cable stations like say above channel 99???
In having DirecTV, I've noticed the way that company gets around needing to shift all the local channels all over is they start all of their cable TV stations above channel 99.  This leaves 2-99 as open- so that the local channel can goto its correct allotment anywhere in the USA.  It just seems logical to leave the local channels in their true slot so I'm wondering what was soo appealing about this type of format where everything gets scattered all over.
Does anyone have some idea of what I'm missing and perhaps if there's some kind of method to this madness-- which I've never quite understood?
    ~J. P.

I'm glad I was able to reassure you, but I now think I went too far. Looking at your channel listings you provide, Verizon has some major problems to make it all line up. And looking in more detail at ours, it isn't as simple as I made it out to be.
Verizon, IMO to their credit, has tried to standardize channel assignments for most everything around the country. Easier for them I suspect. Anyway, they start their SD cable channels at 50 in most places, I think; that means that UHF channels 50 and above must be relocated somewhere, and they do that, down into the low range. Here in Texas, some of the higher broadcast channels, but not all, are relocated - 27 to 7, 33 to 9, 39 to 10, etc, while 21 is on 21, 29 is on 29, etc.Verizon puts the local PEG cable channels at 30-47, then TV Guide at 48, and local weather at 49, then the real cable channels 50 and above. So all of the local broadcast channels that they carry are reloacated if necessary to below 30 here.
The HD channels (the ones that do offer HD channels) do follow the scheme I mentioned, local + 500.
When I made my statement earlier, I was really thinking of the "major" channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS, etc), because those are pretty much the only local channels I watch, I forgot about all of the various smaller channels (religeous, Spanish language, etc) that they do carry. Sorry, I really didn't mean to make a mistake, I should have actually looked at the lineup first.

  • Why did you return your N97 - fail

Somebody suggested to take this conversation elsewhere.  I'm starting this to really help Nokia as to why I returned my N97, and maybe somebody else looking to buy one, it will help them decide its nothing that matters to them.
After reading Nokia's return policy I found that you really only have 7 days to return the phone with the California exception being 30 days but having to pay a 15% restocking fee.
I returned my N97 because of all the hoopla about being the new flag ship phone that was a touch screen phone. When I tried to use the phone for 4 days and the back light would not turn on (This has since been fixed in the latest software update)  Knowing I only had 7 days (30 really in my case) I called tech support and they quickly decided to have me send my phone in for repair, they said they had not heard of this problem and it was better to get it in earlier than later. All was so far ok, not great, about 4 days after they received the phone I received a call from the "executive offices of Nokia" telling me they understood I purchased their flag ship phone and they didn't want me to be without a phone, they were going to send me a N71 because the parts for my phone would not be in in 2-3 week. I said ok, and hung up the phone. Then my partner asked if this is a new phone without parts, why not just send you a new phone. I called back and the story changed, now it seemed they didn't know if it was software or hardware. I lost it, and asked for a refund, they said being a new phone they would give me 100% refund and send me out a box that day, and my refund would be mailed out in 6 weeks or more. 1 week later and no box to return the phone in, I called back, Seems they did not send a box out, its going out on Monday, When I said if I didn't get the box by Wednesday I would dispute the charges on my credit card. They also admited that the refund check has already been mailed and if I disputed the charges they would stop payment on the check.
    Issue
#1 - Customer support never gave me the same story twice, it kept changing
#2 - I own an iPod touch to listen to music at the gym. The web browser blows the N97 browser away, I don't think Nokia even looked at the iTouch/iPhone to enhance their browser. I found I couldn't use the browser
#3 - Out of the box the phone software was bad, had they waited till July 1st to ship the phone (about 2 weeks) they would have had a phone that seemed to work
#4 - OVI prices on application are too high, why are there not any application for $0.99 everything seems to be $2.99 and up
#5 -  Days after the phone release, when the software still didn't work, Nokia lowered the prices for 1 day, Would not give a refund of the difference.
#6 -  Memory for the C: default drive is limited, when I send over some ring tones via blue tooth, I filled it up, after reading the forums I found I could set the memory to the 32G partition, Why does a $700 phone cause me to tweek it like that.
These were my major complaints, I figured for $700 (usd) I would get a phone that worked and smoked all the other phones out there.
