Why do I have to have Mobile Data "on" just to get a good phone signal?
I went in to the Verizon store today to ask about dropped phone calls in Minneapolis. I was told I need mobile data "on" at all times for good phone signal. I told him I do not want to waste data just to make clear phone calls. I know that most apps run background data even when they are not used.
Data and voice are separate. You need both IF you use Advanced Calling. Otherwise, that's a lie.

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.

If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

Have timesheet data. Trying to get staff at risk of burn out (worked 8hrs a day during last 3 weeks)

I've been trying to get a semi-complex measure out for over a day now but seem to be going round in circles. Most frustrating is I don't quite understand why one version throws an error, another throws out the wrong number and then whatever you guys come
up with will give me the correct answer!
I have a workbook uploaded here which I used for a different question, but majority of the data model is the same :

What I'm trying to do is find staff members that are at risk of burn out (eg consistently working > 8hrs a day)
My main timesheet table (Time) is as such:
StaffID (fk to staff table)
ClientID (fk to client table)
TaskID (fk to task table)
TimesheetDate (fk to date table)
EffortInHrs
my date dim is standard fare, only thing i've added is an EndOfWeekDate (eg EOWDate. sunday is the last day therefore for each date for this week the endofweekdate column = 18-jan. For last week it was 11-Jan etc) and I also have a 'last freshed date' that
shows the last time the model was refreshed
A staff member can only record time against a specific task once per day, but they can have multiple tasks across multiple clients for one day
The business rule im working with is
if they've worked more than 8hrs at least once in the last 3 weeks (dates that fall between EOWdate for 'now' minus 3 weeks and EOWdate for 'now' ), then return the sum of EffortInHrs for all clients for every day in the last 3 weeks
I've given up in getting it in one go so i'm trying to cobble together a number of calc columns and measures to get me closer.. but it all seems to stall
eg the following calc column (DailySumOfHrs)

I get errors, i'm guessing because i'm mixing my fact and date tables now and it doesn't know it can use the TimeSheetDate 'context' to filter.

I am not happy with this at all. There are so many conditions (eg filters added) that need to be satisfied for this to return a sensible result and I need to expose a number of the 'backend' filters that users would need to add to the report to get the correct
answer.
As is, it only works for a simple Staff, date, burntouthrs report. If users attempt to create their own pivot table/chart and try to break it down by client or task it doesn't look right at all. I'd also like to be able to count how much stuff are working
long hrs but this approach wouldn't support that at all.
I could probably post dozens of my attempted dax that to me logically look like it should work but either aggregate wrong or throw context errors. Unfortunately my current approach to dax still is to try various, almost random variations until one works
for whatever reason
I always aim to have a measure that 'just works' in all contexts where it makes logical sense. For me to get that happening here i'd probably need to spend another few hrs trying all kinds of allexcept() conditions for each filter where i want it to work
and hope none contradict each other
Thinking about it now, this isn't really a separate measure at all.. i think a better approach would be to add a calc column to the staff table that checks if that staff member has >8hrs assigned for any day (i dont think the default time->staff relationship
would allow this though). But i'm still interested on how to accomplish it using the separate 'measure' approach
I'll go spend the rest of today trying to get the flag working in the staff dim!

Why do I have to browse all my email contact in the phone app?
When browsing for a phone number in my contact list from the phone app, why do I have to browse through the 100's of contacts for which I just have an email address with no phone number?

Why do I have Calendar Date Dimension in my Logical Layer?
If I look in my logical layer and then looking at the models, each of my Fact tables have their corresponding dates such as Order Date, Date Updated, Date Shipped etc. This is OK. But each single Fact, I see a Calendar Date which is a duplicate of another date dimension. What I mean if I look in Fact A, I will have Date Transaction, Date Shipped, Date Ordered and Date Calendar. Date Calendar has the same join relationship as Date Shipped. Another Fact table Date Calendar has a same relationship as Date Transaction.
Is this a common modelling practice, is this only used for ease of use for business end users? Do you know why would would do this and what the benefit is?

FACTTABLE1.ORDERDATEID joined to W_DATE_ORDERED_D.DATEID AND FACTTABLE1.SHIPPEDDATEID joined to W_DATE_SHIPPED_D.DATEID
FACTTABLE2.TRANSACTIONDATEID joined to W_DATE_TRANSACTION_D.DATEID AND FACTTABLE2.UPDATEDDATEID joined to W_DATE_UPDATED_D.DATEID
The above part I understand fully, what I also have is this:
FACTTABLE1.ORDERDATEID joined to W_DATE_CALENDAR_D.DATEID
and
FACTTABLE2.TRANSACTIONDATEID joined to W_DATE_CALENDAR_D.DATEID
Documentation states that calendar dates are used more for business logical reasons for the end users, and that the Calendar dates joined to the fact date ids, the fact date ids are the more commonly used dates for reporting.
Does that make sense?

Why do I have to insert a slug to get the right outpoint?!??!
I have a timeline with audio/video, a background and a title/close graphic. In just about any other editing program on the planet, one would mark in/out, and the program would be smart enough to know that you wanted to include all the tracks in your output unless you explicity told it to ignore something. On that same premise, ALL pro editing tools would also know that you'd want to, you know, use the actual in/out that you set in your output. But no - it would appear that X thinks otherwise and forces the editor to put a slug at the end of your primary storyline in order to catch the elements you want. Why? This is such a stupid timesuck that I am certain I must be doing something wrong and/or missing a step along the way.
Pictures may help explain what I am talking about....Here's my timeline:
So, I have set the playhead at the end of my close graphic, but note where the 'range' selector says my outpoint will be. I can't even select the outpoint of the graphic - the program won't let me and instead insists on using the last part of the primary storyline as my out - despite there being content that extends beyond it. I thought Apple wanted us editors to "abandon the timeline"????
Instead, I am forced to do an opt/w and insert a slug - as shown here - in order to output the correct content:
NOW I can output that last bit of content! But why force the editor to go through the extra step of inserting a slug?!?!?!?! To many, this may seem like a trial complaint. But when you're in a production-factory environment and cranking these things out by the boatload - the extra steps mean lost time and wasted energy.
As I stated earlier, I strongly suspect that the problem is the part behind the keyboard. At least I am hoping so... No pro editing solution should be this stupid. That should be left to the editor...Paul Figgiani wrote:

See, here's the rub, Paul. I love working with X. I was initially one of the people that DID jump ship from 7 to PP because X freaked me out, and in the early days - it was pretty far removed from the tool it is now. Apple has made tons and tons of awesome improvements to the platform and I can now edit circles around the other two editors in the shop - one on PP and one on 7. I've been editing for over 20 years, so while I was pretty darn set in my ways - I was eager to figure out a new way of working if that meant more speed, more posibilities, and more flexibility. Since I've made the total-jump to X, I've found all 3.
But how did all those changes happen between the inital offering of X and what it is now? Yeah, you got it - the ******** and moaning from the users about stupid, bone headed workflow ops like having to insert a slug in order to output the content you need to versus just using I/O and being done with it. When Apple has NOT addressed something that the majority of users have complained about, 9 times out of 10 - someone out there makes a plugin for it that addresses the problem. I was hoping for someone to say "Oh - yea go get plugin XYZ and be done with it.." (Like, say, the brilliant decision to leave out the ability to rotate something around the Z axis, the lack of a garbage matte, and others...).
It turns out that this is "just the way it is" - at least for now, so I'll deal with the frustration. The rest of X is pretty great.
Your reply was frustrating this morning because instead of simply offering "Nope! That's the way it works" - you elected to attempt to school me and publicly shame me by telling me to RTFM. Far from helpful, and borderline confrontational. Neither of which I've ever been able to grow fond of. Thus, the offer for a cup of Joe - which still stands. A quick Google of your username shows you as someone that knows a lot about a lot, and I certainly feel like we got off on the wrong foot.

shift and qotation, Why?Having the same issue!!! After I haven't pressed the Caps Lock button for a while, I have to press the button twice for the light to come on. Had a MBA, talked to a Apple Care representative and they said that was a defect, returned the MBA, bought a MBP and now I am having the same issue. If it's any reassurance I noticed this same issue in a notebook display at an Apple Store. I'm wondering if I not actually pressing the button hard enough each time.

And why cant I send events to wife and son and vice-versa so they show up in each of our caleddars
it is so frustrating and far too complicated
now there is an icloud one, i cant use icloud as i do not have enough space, so i have turned if off, i backup to PC
can i delete all the calendars I dont want and just leave one that synchs with work and home?
I am so fed up with all the complexity
would it be better to get another app and just delete the apple one? woudl thsi work if i was invited to attend things from other people

OK, I did not realise you could delete them. Have now deleted them and have only one. But there is another one under icloud called family that i have shared with wife and son? Not sure where this one came from, possibly when i set up family sharing?
In icloud settings icloud drive is off, photos on, mail off, contacts on, calendar on, find my phone on, rest are off - I don't really know what on earth I am doing with icloud as there are no instructions as to what everything means or does if you turn on or off? Apple assume we have the same knowledge as the staff who work in the app store!
wife and son have apple id's, I don't understand what you mean by icloud acounts? it's all so confusing. yes they both have iphones, yes I have set up family sharing and that seems to work ok, for sharing apps. That is the only bit we have to be working OK!!
But if my wife sends me an invite i don't get it. My one remaining calendar does synch with outlook at work.
My wife and son are just as clueless on all options/settings. I asked my sons friends (teenagers) and they were just as clueless and only used whats app, instagram, twitter, etc, as they don't understand all the apple stuff either.
Apple have turned everything so complicated. If it helps you at my level of frustration, we have never managed to get any music on the three iphones from cd's copied to my PC. its too complicated, I did do it once on the first ipod, years ago, but never since. It kept saying iphone in not allowed on this PC and we just gave up, and was trying to synch hundreds of CD's we could not just to copy on the cd's and tracks we wanted. We have given up and subscribed to Deezer.
I am happy to move to another calender if it makes it easier, as I am really at the end of my tether with Apple complexity!

Why does it have to be so difficult to get help from Apple?
I have been having problems with both Safari and my Hotmail (live) email account on my iPad 2, and I have spent the past 3 hours just trying to get to this point where I could even ask a bloody question. I am one very frustrated consumer right now. Fortunately, I have had few problems with my iPad over the past year, but now that I have... WOW! I had always heard Apple support was good. Not for this paying customer!
Yesterday, I had to change my hotmail password because my account had apparently been hacked. I have had nothing but error messages from the iPad since. I have reset, re-entered the password, deleted and re-created the account... And I still have trouble receiving and viewing the contents of some messages. The error message says the username or password are not valid, or something like that. I am not locked out of the iPad as some people have been.
My other issue is with Safari. When I try to navigate to msn.com (US), I always get rerouted to msn Hong Kong, and everything is in Mandarin! Nothing i do will get me to the US site, let alone change the default.
A year of bliss with my iPad, but now 24 hours+ of ****.
PMMYes, I recognize this is a user forum... But I did end up here through the Apple site and after rummaging through other posts, manuals, the Express Lane, etc. I admit I did not call Apple yet, but I was hopeful I could find someone with a similar problem that could offer assistance without coming to that.
I admit I am frustrated out of ignorance as much as anything else, but the process of establishing an Apple ID and password with my iPad was bad enough. That alone took several tries. Everything seemed to work, but then in the end it would kick me out and force me to start all over again.
The whole problem solving process may be fine for a regular member of the Apple techie faithful, but as a first time, casual consumer... It was not what I would expect from Apple.
To answer the microsoft question: I have perused their site as well for help, but I have really had no trouble with hotmail or msn when accessing these sites through my windows based laptop/Internet explorer. I have only had trouble with my iPad.
I assume my HK msn problem is due to the fact that I have actually used my iPad in HK on occasion. I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere in the iPad or the msn site that is remembering that fact and defaulting to HK. I just can't figure out how to change it because most of the text in the site is in Mandarin.
Again, whether it is in the iPad or msn isn't the point. As this is a user group, I thought there may be another IPad user that has experienced this and could help. -
I have checked with my Internet provider; all settings are set to 'download' at opening & every 5 minutes after that.
Have you considered using either a jump drive or a portable hard-drive to back up your iTunes files?
In the beginning, I was using a 8GB jump drive to back up my iTunes music folder. I ran out of space on that, so I purchased a 250GB portable hard drive and have been backing up my iTunes music folder on that. Very easy.....you just put the USB port of the hard-drive into your computer...COPY your iTunes music folder from the computer and PASTE it to the portable hard-drive.
