Why does Apple TV lose all favorite podcasts after update?

This has happened to me several times. After a software update, all favorites in podcast are lost, as well as the setting for home sharing. Have others experienced this?

Unfortunately the last update required/forced a reset of the Apple TV, hopefully this is a one off event.

After update this morning, i have returned to the old 5 mimutes of connection to library, and then connection dropped... Very annoying.Of course apple will blame Windows XP, or my router, or my firewall, etc. etc.. funny thing is, it worked perfectly until the update this morning... Any ideas other than port forwarding, windows firewall changes, etc. etc.? Any idea what Apple has done this time?

    Check your Energy Saver settings
    System Preferences - Energy Saver
Maybe it is putting the hard drive to sleep and not waking for network access.

  • Why does my keyboard and mouse freeze intermittently after updating to 10.8.2?

After updating to 10.8.2 on my early 2011 Macbook Pro, whenever I pause for more than a few seconds using either the keyboard or the mouse, the pointer freezes. It takes a few seconds of dragging my finger across the keypad or hitting a number of keys before it begins to respond again.
It doesn't appear that any background process is frozen or that the whole system is frozen because video still plays through without stuttering, and downloads continue updating the progress bar as the freeze occurs.
The same thing has happened since my wife updated her Macbook Air. Very frustrating.
Suggestions on a workaround or solution?
    Thanks.

Have subsequently tried doing a re-install with the combo updater, repaired permissions, reset SMC and PRAM. No luck. When booting into safe mode, works fine but cursor is 'jittery' and the screen is erratic (like an old tv with rabbit ears antenna.)
Any thoughts or help would be significantly appreciated.

  • HT1918 Apple has an old email address and my new email address. The first one which is charter cannot be deleted on the game center or icloud.  I want only my new att email address to be my Apple ID.  Why does Apple not correct all the areas with old emai

How do I get rid of my old charter email address on the game center app and icloud.  It is messing things up when I go to sign in with my new Apple ID using Att? I am continually asked to update my password!!

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • Does a cloned computer lose all its data after updating to Mavericks?

When I got my MacBook Pro, my dad did a clone on my laptop from a Power Mac G5. I running on 10.6.8 and I've been wanting to update to Mavericks. Can I safely update without any problems. Or do I run a risk of all my data earsing after I update?

If you create a full backup of your system and all your important data, you'll have nothing to worry about.

  • Why does my iMac lose its IP Address after being asleep?

It appears that after an hour or so of being asleep my iMac will not reconnect to the wifi internet. When I open the problem it says No IP address but the problem is quickly fixed by going into diagnostics.
I've done all of the updates, I have reinstalled, and I've tried to change my location several times.
    Whats my computers diagnosis?

Hmmm, is this any more than any ISP DNS Server would do? (A much lesser concern, but I have the NoRedirct Add-on in Firefox. When I type in a misspelled URL like nsojs-,gpi-0skf, it goes to Google, not OpenDNS and I have all Google cookies blocked, as well as Google's link tracking redirects, using NoScript.)
Anyway, I've read the ToU and the Privacy Policy. But it's written in obtuse legalese. What I'd really like to know is what they do in practice. FWIW (and maybe not worth that much)
    2) We have never sold, nor do we have any intention of selling any customer data ever. You have completely taken that line from our privacy policy out of context. All that means is that when you click an ad, our advertising partner (Yahoo) will see your IP address and the typo you made that resulted in you seeing the ad you clicked on. Nothing more.

Gen -- We don't do anything with your query history other than pull some stats from them. Moreover, your ISP has a far far more privacy-invasive privacy policy...
And while it's not intended to satiate the tin-foil'ers, we're currently putting together some new features now that will let you turn off all stats collection for your requests. That means we'll bitbucket all your stats and anything even remotely personally identifiable (and not like AOL-style anonymize it, we'll actually get rid of it).
As for being free, EveryDNS.Net is free too and we've been making money for six years. Go figure. :-)

I will continue to research this. Maybe post something in the Lounge.

  • Does anyone else "lose" all outgoing email after shutting off an Exchange account?

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.1.  A few times now I have experienced the following phenomenon and hope that someone can offer a resolution.  This didn't happen on my iPhone 4 with iOS 5.
I have mutliple email accounts - icloud, gmail x 3, hotmail, comcast pop mail and a corporate Exchange account.  I don't usually want to get Exchange mail on my phone but sometimes I have to turn it on.  When I do turn on the Mail through the Exchange account, everything is fine.  However, once I deactivate Mail in the Exchange account, the phone will no longer send mail from any account properly.  This happens in a completely quiet manner - there is no "Sending" bar at bottom of the mail screen, the messages aren't stored in the Sent or Outgoing mail folder for any of the other accounts.  There is no warning that the messages aren't being delivered.  They apparently just cease to exist.  The only way to resolve the issue is to reboot the phone - then everything goes back to normal.
Any idea how to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
Go to System Preferences - Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list of devices by pressing the "-" button. Take the batteries out of the keyboard and reinsert them. In Bluetooth Preferences press the '+" button to add the new device. If the keyboard begins to pair, click the word "pair" and type in the passcode. Press return. The keyboard is now paired.
If the mouse is not pairing, try this: shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse.  ONce the computer starts up again, wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse.  Turn on the power to the bluetooth mouse.  It should work normally now.

  • Why can I not play all my songs after updating to IOS5?

Only some of my songs play on my Ipad since upgrading to new IOS.  How do I get them all to play?  It simply skips over as if they are not there?

  • Why does my music play at abnormal speeds after updating to iOS 8.2

Since my update, my music will either stop, or play at an abnormal faster speed. It is intermittent and only happens to songs that are purchased from the iTunes store.

Have subsequently tried doing a re-install with the combo updater, repaired permissions, reset SMC and PRAM. No luck. When booting into safe mode, works fine but cursor is 'jittery' and the screen is erratic (like an old tv with rabbit ears antenna.)

  • Why does my right click has no function after update to 10.7.2

I have just updated my software to 10.7.2 and it seems that whenever I right-clicked, there is no function to it. Which means I can't compress my documents, etc. Has 10.7.2 disenabled it? Or is it just my mac that is encountering problems?

go to system preferences, then your device. There you'll find the option to right click. if it is off turn it on, if it is on, turn it off and on.
send feedback to apple about this issue if it was on but didn't work.
People have found toggling the option off and on fixes their issue. that and restarting the computer.

  • How can I retrieve video podcasts after updating to new iTunes?

  • Why does Apple keep breaking the podcast app?

Why does Apple keep breaking the podcast app?

Here are my issues, maybe you can help... And yes "breaking" and "nightmare" are accurate descriptions of this update...
    1. Syncing is now impossible without WiFi or a Cellular connection. I've tried your guide in the other thread, but it didn't help.
When I sync podcasts with iTunes, they DO NOT SHOW UP in the app unless I connect my iPhone 5S to WiFi or Cellular. As soon as I connect it to something, new episodes that I manually synced finally show up and can be played.
    2. Arranging the podcasts in any order is now pointless. Any sort of wireless connection will reset my order to a randomized one. It's not even "podcasts with the newest episodes on top", it's just random.
    3. Apple doesn't seem to allow any other podcast app to use the manual sync in iTunes. Am I wrong about that? I looked at countless paid apps and they all have their own cloud or system to only deliver episodes wirelessly...
    4. And that constant prompt about Cellular data access could drive anyone insane!
I have never been this frustrated with an Apple product in my life...

  • Why does Apple misslead us selling what appears to be Game of Thrones Season 2 when in fact all it is - is a few trailers and the actual program is only available 18th Feb - this gives me a real bad feeling toward Apple and its branding!!!! deceitful

Why does Apple misslead us by selling what appears to be Season 2 Game Of Thrones when in fact it is only some timewasting trailers and the actual program is only available on 18th February 2013!
    Deceitful comes to mind....
I am sure they will say it is in the small print and you should have read it and what you got was these 'Really Cool Trailers'......but come on Apple - don't screw up your BRAND now if you carry on you will have a core problem! My trust is waning.
Its is not like Aple will be stocked-out on the 18th February is it - in reality I guess they just want the money upfront well in advance of delivering the product....just not on Steve will be turning in his grave.....

etresoft, I think you are being unnecessarily harsh to gloriastitz. She is frustrated and doesn't understand computers at the level you do. What she is experiencing is frustrating, so she is frustrated. I have been a help-desk professional for over 15 years now, and emotions are part of the business.
I know it has been over 6 months since gloriastitz posted her reply. I hope she got a useful answer, but I fear we have satisfactorily scared her away from seeking help.
So, the first best response to tell someone is that the problem they are experience is almost certainly fixable, but may require more information to solve. You tell them you understand their frustration (even if you personally don't experience frustration or don't understand why people my express frustration publicly about a problem that frustrates them). It's just good protocol.
Then you work with the person to break down the problem into steps. If you don't have a ready answer and don't think you might even know the answer with sufficient data, then back out and leave it to others to tackle.
I've been having a similar problem with my Mail program. The cause is still unclear to me after vieweing the logs and changing settings where I know them to be. There appears to be a setting that is not clearly placed in any of the typical UI locations for initiating the desired action for either a feed: or mailto: call.

I'm sure I'm not the only one having these frustrations.
I think you are. This is not a place to rant and complain. It will just encourage people to give you unhelpful responses. If you want to complain, go elsewhere. If you want help, ask for it.
For example, can you explain what those dialog boxes actually say? Regardless of who is starting Mail, it will not prevent your machine from sleeping.

  • In Address Book, why does Apple let you create custom fields in the Template cards but not have them available for importing?

I open Address Book, go into Preferences, select Template and under the Names field (friend, assistant, father, etc) I add a custom field called "Principal".
I also add two more custom fields in the Email area.
Quit Address Book then relaunch. Add a new contact and the new custom fields, Principal, etc. are there. All good so far.
I have a Now Contact file with about 200 contacts in it. I export all fields as a Text file, Tab delimited. No problems there. With Address Book launched, select Import, pick the text file, leave Text Encoding on Automatic and click Open.
The window that shows the fields for Address Book and fields for the text file side by side opens. This is where you match up the correct fields for importing. If I go to one of the fields from the text file that I created a custom field for, click under the Address Book heading on the Do not import, scroll thru the Apple choices of fields, none of the custom fields show up. Only the original Apple ones are there. Why does Apple let you create them in the Template area but not have them available for importing? Does anyone have suggestions on getting around this?

While most likely not of interest to you, Spotlight can also tell you where the files it finds are located
Hover the mouse pointer over the name, and press Command-Option and the path to the file will be displayed.
As for opening a terminal session in the directory where a file is located, there is Applescripts that do just that as well as specific features in Lion/Mountain Lion terminal:
