Why effective PPI format change?

Hello there!
The effective ppi format change to "effective resolution", like 2356x1678px. I want back to real ppi, like 370ppi. How do i get back?

Since I notice in your screen shot that you have two different images with non-proportional scaling, I might point out that you can use InDesign's Preflight panel to search for such images. In the IMAGES and OBJECTS section of the Preflight Profiles dialog box, check "Non-Proportional Scaling of Placed Object" in your preflight profile.

  • Why does the format change when i share a presentation?

I develop a presentation in Keynote in my Imac.  I then place it in a flash drive and pass the presentation to my MacBook.  When I open it, all the fonts are changes, it has added bullets, the sizes have changes and many of the pictures are gone.  I have the same fonts installed in both computers.  How can I stop this?

I can't even see where that setting is.. for my information all the footage is from a GoPro so what I've had to do is convert them to .mov and Apple ProRes 422 now. Now when I have them in final cut the samples in 'All Clips' and in the time line look ok in till I hover over them and then they have the red hint again, they do how ever export the right colour now but this is going to make colour correction difficult

  • Format changes from one computer to another.....how come?

Just bought a new laptop.......I have been doing all my editing on the computer at home without a problem......all clips are saved in MPEG and everything works fine.....(ultimately posting them all on YouTube).  As I needed to get a new laptop anyway, I set it up so it would have plenty of giddyup to work on videos away from home.  When I copy the folder containing the video clips (all in MPEG) on the desktop at home and then copy the folder to the desktop on the new laptop, the clips have changed from MPEG to MOD format........This results in an error message when I try to preview the clip (in Windows Media Player) about being unable to find the app that created the clip......I can click "try it anyway" and the video will play but minus the audio.  I do all my previewing in Media Player to go through the clips quickly to sort out what I want to keep and what to toss out.
Why would the format change from MPEG to MOD when I copy the files from desktop at home to laptop?....anyone have any ideas?.....is there a phone number at Adobe that anyone knows of with a human on the other end that may be able to answer if I can figure it out here.  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Welcome to the forum.
    Now,
When I copy the folder containing the video clips (all in MPEG) on the desktop at home and then copy the folder to the desktop on the new laptop, the clips have changed from MPEG to MOD format
This is a new one to me. I have never seen any version of Windows that would change the file extension of any file copied, regardless of whether it was over a network, or to a new drive/folder.
Now, with the JVC cameras, their files are MOD and TOD (for HD material). Could you have copied the wrong folder? Otherwise, something really odd is going on. Could it be that you thought that you had copied a certain folder and actually got one with the same file names, but at the original level, when they were still .MOD?
    Good luck,

  • Export window format changed, don't know why

You know aperture is a love/hate relationship. What do I love? I became an advanced user fast, it's intuitive, but the bugs are just maddening and apple has never responded even once to my countless bug and crash reports. Apple has strayed so far from computing as it's central focus... the impression I get is they just don't care about my bug problems or if I stay an apple customer after owning that little baby Duo laptop, PowerPC, ibook and now MacBook Pro. I think that's sad. Just keep pushing the phones and ipods- Steve, and don't worry about me. I'll eventually just go away. That said, the format of the export window changed to first line: export preset, 2nd line: Subfolder Format, 3rd: "Grayed out" customer subfolder name, 4th: Name Format, 5th: Custom Name, 6th: File Name Example. To my knowledge, this new export window format changed without any action on my part. I don't like it because I can no longer just export it to the desk top without it being automatically put in a folder. The old export window format just had an option for tiff, jpg, psd and a name to type in and where it was heading. How do you get back this old export window format? This is baffling like the disappearing library in the trial version every time you shut down and restarted.

Addressing your final remarks, I don’t see any problem. First: have your current Preset -> Image Export set to what you want in terms of JPEG or PSD etc. Second select the image(s) you want to Export. Select something like File -> Export -> Versions (or whatever you want). The Export panel defaults to the Desktop, and the images will be placed there - no folder is required.
Maybe I’ve missed your point, but I don’t see any problem.

  • Format changing when IDCS3 file exported to PDF

I am using Acrobat 8 version 8.1.2, and InDesign version 5.0.2.
I am noticing a very specific problem when exporting some files to PDF from InDesign.
We often have a format where we have a numbered list of right-aligned number, followed by some text, a leader line, and then another number at the end of the line. This is set up with a left indent and a first line left indent (rather than using the numbered list options, we are required to do it this way where I work), and then the necessary tabs later in the lines.
I am finding since we switched to IDCS3, that when I export to PDF, lines containing this format change in the PDF. The text that appears after the number in the front of the line is pushed over on top of the leader line, leaving a huge white space. On rarer occasions, it will move things in lines that have no indents, but contain tabs that aren't being used.
I have been able to get the files to export correctly by removing the left indent and first-line left indent and using tabs instead (or by removing unused tabs). But we have hundreds of files set up in this manner so going in and changing how they are all set up is problematic to say the least. Many of these are also multi-line and not using the indents means we have to manually tab lines over.
Is this a known issue? Does anyone know why this might happen and how I can prevent it?
I tried posting in the Acrobat forums and it was suggested since it's an export issue that I might get more help from the InDesign folks.

Given that the file is being exported to PDF and not going via a driver route, there really is no reason why changing the default printer should make a difference whatsoever in this particular case. Changing default drivers in Microsoft Office applications, yes, but for this situation, no. And since Acrobat doesn't change formatting, the issue sounds like some problem associated with InDesign. Please report this problem directly to Adobe Tech Support and be prepared to send them sample files. Thanks!

I haven't tried printing to PDF. I will try that and see what happens. Unfortunetly, where I work we are required to export to PDF rather than print to PDF, so if it works it will only be a clue for me rather than a solution.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try a cross post to the InDesign forms.

  • Date format changes in the middle of a program execution

In my C code I have a series of select statements.
When I first get a session to the database I use the following command to set the date format
    alter session set nls_date_format = 'MM/DD/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'
It works fine for a few queries. After a while during the program execution I see that the date format changes to 'DD-MON-YY' format. This results in a series of error in my code because I expect the date format to always be in the 'MM/DD/YYYY HH24:MI:SS' format.
Any idea why the date format should change all of a sudden in the middle of the program execution.

I second the idea that you should always use TO_DATE and TO_CHAR if you want to reliably convert between dates and strings.
Without seeing your code, it is hard to say why your date format is changing, but the most likely reason is that you are changing users somewhere in the code. For example:
    SQL> show user
    USER is "OPS$ORACLE"
    SQL> SELECT sysdate FROM dual;
    SYSDATE
    11-JUL-2003
    SQL> ALTER SESSION SET nls_date_format='dd-Mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss';
    Session altered.
    SQL> SELECT sysdate FROM dual;
    SYSDATE
    11-Jul-2003 10:15:12
    SQL> connect jtest/test
    Connected.
    SQL> SELECT sysdate FROM dual;
    SYSDATE
    11-JUL-2003TTFN

  • Original and effective ppi

Hey everyone! I would like to ask for some urgent help on Indesign + PDF print document subject.
I prepared a document for offset print (business cards 8,5cm width x 5,5cm height) and it turned out that the pictures were very rastered on the Proof. Like, you could see the raster dots on it.
I checked out my Indesign document again and I found out that the original ppi of the images was 762 and the effective ppi over 1000. I then realised that on Photoshop, I setted by mistake the pictures´s resolution for 300 pixel per cm instead of pixel per inchs!!
I changed that and they have now:
    300 pixel per inch resolution
    4cm width x 5cm height
and the pixel dimensions are: 472 px width x 591 pixel (height).
In the Indesign document, it appears now:
    300 original ppi
between 300 and 400 effective ppi
    472 px x 591 px dimensions
My question is, do you guys think I solved the problem that way or should I still change something before I sent it again to print?
The real dimensions of the pictures on the business card should be about 4cm width x 5cm height, so I decided to have them on Photoshop with that dimensions and 300 pixel per inch resolution, so that I don´t have to scale them much on Indesign. Did I do it right?
    Thank you!

The original psd file has, more precisely:
Image size: 14,8 cm width x 21 cm height
    Resolution: 762 px / inch ( = 300px/cm )
    Pixel dimensions: 4440 x 6300
Then, I changed the Resolution from 762 px / inch to 300 px / inch, and checked in the "resample image" option, which converted the Pixel dimensions into: 1748 x 1418
    (Image size remained the same)
This file has good detail quality, it looks sharp.
Then, I drag the layer from this file to a new one, with the image size I need :
    Image size: 4cm x 5cm
    Resolution: 300 px / inch
    Pixel dimensions: 472 x 591
Which makes me think of another question: Are these Pixel dimensions enough for print? Is this psd file good enough to place in Indesign and for print?

  • Why does iCal automatically change the date of the entry i am making to the day before??

why does iCal automatically change the date of the entry i am making to the day before??
for example, when i am attempting to make a 'all-day' appointment on october 2nd 2011, it automatically shifts it to october 1st.
but if i am doing a timed appointment for only a few hours, it will allow me to put it on that day.
i am trying to put in travel dates so any help on how to fix this, would be greatly appreciated.

    alsdman,
Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Since that Library is now hidden, you have to use the Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.
Also go to System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region: and set/re-set the appropriate "Region."

  • Actual vs Effective PPI

I see in the info when I click on a specific link in the links panel two items I don't know how to tell them apart.  Can anyone give me a good explanation of the difference between actual and effective ppi.  Which one is important and which one you really need to pay attention to and why.  I understand that a picture needs to be at least 240 ppi for print.  I've read several articles and just don't really understand.

Actual resolution is the resolution as you would view it in an image editor like Photoshop.
Effective resolution is the scaled resolution. If you scale the picture smaller in InDesign, you're "squishing" the pixels into a smaller area, increasing the effective resolution. If you scale the picture larger in InDesign, you're spreading the pixels over a larger area, decreasing the effective resolution.

  • Effective ppi

    Hello All,
My friend and I are working on an art book project being printed on a satin/matt 100lb artpaper.  All images are full bleed 9.75 x 12.5.  Our effective ppi's are ranging from 280 to 400. We were going to downssample them to 300 dpi on export in order to give the printer a document with all the same ppi.  Do I need to upsize the ones that are 285?  Can that be done in InDesign?  I have originals on some of them that are larger if need be.  Would you see the difference?  Is there a reason to give a pdf to a printer with a consistant ppi?  Would they change their lpi within a single job or just print it all at the lower one?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Bob,
I think it is a pretty high end press.  They do a lot of art books.  Will they reduce the overall lpi for the book because of those few images that aren't 300 ppi?  Or would they still use 150lpi or 200lpi on the whole thing?   Or would they adjust the lpi for each image?

  • Effective PPI in .eps files

Anyone know how to extract the effective ppi info in .eps files? Photoshop.eps and Illustrator.eps files are different, so whichever you may have info on would be appreciated. I believe Illustrator generated ones are read as .pdf docs, so it may be impossible.
    Thanks,
    Seth

    absqua wrote:
Why not use the built-in preflight for this? It will get the effective ppi of Illustrator and Photoshop eps's.
Uh-oh. Egg on face and all of that.
I didn't get to see the effective ppi, but if I place this EPS image into InDesign
I get a preflight message 'something is wrong'. If I make the image smaller (and thus increase the ppi), the error disappears.

  • STCD1 Tax Number 1 - Format Change

    Dear Gurus,
I want to change the format of this table: STCD1 which only contains numbers in the standard SAP settings.
The reason why I need to change it is because the client in which we do the implementation is Romanian.
In Romania, the format of the tax number contains LETTERS and '/' signs as follow:
    J23/2808/2008
We are not allowed by law to 'compress' this number and remove the letters and the signs
This number has to appear on all official documents such as Invoices, Credit Memo, Debit Note etc...
I have the 2 following questions for you:
1- How can I change this format?
2- How can I make sure this information appears on all sales documents?
    Your help is needed please.
    Regards
    Chris

  • CF 8 - pdf format changes with page count

when crating a cfdocument as pdf format when we create a
document approx. 500 pages or less everything is fine. when we go
over that number the font size and some formatting changes. we are
at a complete loss as to why this happening as we have checked and
rechecked every option possible. even going as far as scaling the
report down to only 1 or 2 lines. very bizarre. any thoughts on why
this is or a direction to troubleshoot this would be great. thanks
    -Ralph

I'm not sure if this helps, but we've noticed formatting changes when the PDF writer considers the items in the cfdocument page too big for the layout (fonts resizing, inconsistent styling, etc).  We shrunk our content down (especially images) to make sure everything fit on screen.  also, if you are using images, make sure you are placing images in the cfdocument at the same height/width as the actual image file.
Not sure how helpful that's going to be - sounds like your issue is more about raw file size than anything else, but thought I would mention it.

  • Numeric format changes depending on Driver Version

Scenario: JAVA application accessing Oracle 8.1.6 with last Oracle 9.2.0 JDBC Driver (classes12.zip) JDK1.3.
We have found numeric format changes using old oracle.zip and new classes12.zip.
With oracle.zip value 0.346 is returned
With classes12.zip value .346 is returned.
Why the format change depending on the driver version?
Is the new format the right one?
    Many thanks.

If you're working in CMYK, "softproof" your colors by choosing View->Overprint Preview. Note the keyboard shortcut
If you're working in RGB, make sure the Creative Suite color management is synced. This is done through Bridge. May I suggest looking that up in Adobe Help.
