Why is BT Customer Care So Bad at Dealing With Com...

More appropriately, BT Customer Care ought to be called the BT Customer Barrier. Its primary function is to defend BT from the problems its customers may be having and its fundamental ethos is that the customer is always wrong.
This is made abundantly clear at the point of initial contact, its internet pages, where the first thing to greet you is the statement that most faults occur within the customer’s own infrastructure. This bizarre assumption is carried right through the extensive faults procedure where each step is directed remorselessly toward persuading the customer to find and fix a fault that without further investigation is undoubtedly on their own premises and of their own making; BT does not admit that faults might occur outside of customer premises or make provision for those who are competent enough to have already carried out these basic checks and want to move on. Neither is there a clear onward step for BT to take ownership of a reported fault after the checking procedure has been completed – again there is an assumption that all faults are the responsibility of the customer. For a persistent customer it leaves the complaints procedure as the only option to progress.
The complaints procedure is another mechanism dominated by the customer-is-always-wrong ethos. The first thing a customer service operator will do is to insist a customer go through the same step by step procedure covered by its internet pages, regardless of whether or not the customer has already done this. Presumably the operator is trained to believe that the customer is incompetent. There is a pre-scripted, condescending and belittling conversation that follows which often involves the customer service operator magically changing from a care representative into a sales representative, offering new packages and various pieces of equipment that he is almost sure will cure the fault. The last resort, if a customer manages to stand firm and turn down all these alluring offers, is for the operator to reassure the customer that everything will be all right if they just be patient and give it a couple of weeks. Then it’s goodbye.
During the lifetime of a fault this procedure will repeat itself several times and each time the customer service operator will behave as if it were the first. BT appears to have no method of gathering useful retrievable information about a specific complaint or sharing it between operators. Eventually frustration and anger from a customer will lead to elevation where the customer is promised a call-back from a BT engineer. Call-backs from BT engineers are not lightly won.
If you are lucky to be promised a call-back you will be given a time slot and an automatic telephoned reminder first thing in the morning while you are still in bed. A pre-recorded voice message from a hugely condescending and suspiciously sceptic female will make sure you are awake and ready for your call, which may not be for several hours. If you are very lucky your call-back will be made, but often they are delayed or forgotten or have not been booked at all. And, of course, it will be your fault.
I know all this because I have been through it on more than one occasion. My latest battering against the BT Customer Barrier began four or five weeks ago after I had meticulously carried out my own checks. For some months I had noticed that BT broadband was either dropping out completely or reducing strength to download speeds that were unusable, sometimes as low as 0.01mbps, but mostly between 1 and 2. This always seemed to coincide with peak times when my BT contract assured me my signal would not fall below 5 or 6. My own checks consisted first of looking closely at my wifi which at the time admittedly was quite weak. I installed a wifi repeater which boosted the signal but did not resolve the problem so I changed my phone filters but this did not resolve the problem either. I tested the line using quiet mode but there was no noise on the line, I changed my router, I repositioned my router, I changed to Ethernet and used only the BT service socket cutting out all intermediate infrastructure in my home, and I tried all of the above whilst turning on and off various devices I thought might affect my broadband signal. Nothing solved the problem.
At this point I fully believed I had covered every possible self-check known to man, but BT felt differently and tried to make me go through them all again. BT then told me it was my router, which I knew it wasn’t, and that I would have to buy a new one, which I already had, so I declined; then they told me that most probably there was work going on in the area that I did not know about, but neither did the operator because when I asked him about it he admitted he did not know if there was work going on in the area or not. I actually admire him for making that bit up; it showed a spark of spirit. Eventually he told me everything would be all right if I was patient and to wait a couple of weeks, and then he said goodbye.
Everything was not all right and after two more weeks, two more emails and two more conversations that had to begin from scratch because BT had forgotten everything I’d said previously, I eventually won my call-back from a BT engineer and an agreed time slot. Only it didn’t happen. I waited for the call but it never came. A call did come, nearly an hour after the allotted time slot, but I was not there having already given up waiting for it. And that was my fault again.
So, what is wrong with BT Customer Care? Well, just about everything to be honest. It is fundamentally flawed from top to bottom. It has a preconceived conviction that the customer is always wrong and does nothing to hide that conviction. From a customer perspective it is like trying to swim up a waterfall. They make you feel so small. BT Customer Care needs dismantling and rebuilding from scratch, it is an appalling, abhorrent and arrogant organisation that ought to be banned from having the name British in its title; I am pro-European and British, and I am ashamed that BT Customer Care can use the same designation, which is less confrontational than it sounds given that it is mostly located in India. It has become the benchmark by which all poor customer service in Britain is measured by, a level of incompetence to avoid. It’s no coincidence that other internet service providers make a major selling point of not having the same customer service setup as BT.
Eventually my call-back came after weeks of trying and BT agreed to monitor my broadband speed to see themselves what was happening – an appropriate course of action I suggested at the outset. No apology because, naturally, I had been wrong to suggest it and it had only become the correct thing to do when they thought of it. They agreed to monitor my broadband speed and to call me back after three days. After only one day I received an email saying that I should monitor my own speed and send them the results. I pointed out that I had already done so, several weeks earlier. I sent them new results. In all the speed test results sent to BT a clear pattern of drop-out and poor signal strength at regular times during the day were obvious. BT then took to calling me back at times when they knew my signal would not be dropping and asking me to run a speed test, thereby proving I was wrong about having a fault on my line.
Fault or no fault, BT Broadband remains unusable for around two hours per day. When this current contract ends I shall be looking for a new provider.

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
By posting on the forum I assume you would like assistance and not just a rant to blow off some anger
you appear to have tried what normally would be suggested but in order for the forum members and/or mods to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Why is the customer care so poor at Adobe

    I am completely frustrated with Adobe customer care. I have had to call daily to the care having to wait 30 min and more to get through.
    They are unable to help with simple registration problems. Having clocked up over 5 hour of my life wasted on their poor service I have now been told they do not support Adobe Acrobat.
    I have never experience anywhere such poor service and such flaky software

    The advantage is that it has made this one of the best set of forums for getting help on a software product. That is how many of us got here, and in many cases that was a decade or more ago. Thus, things have not changed.
    Just ask your question here and "wait" for an answer. You will often find one that would be better than the scripts read to you by the support folks anyway. Here you are talking to folks that use Acrobat all the time, not someone that was hired to go through a diagnostic chart with you. We don't always know the answer, but I think you will find the answers here to meet your need -- they just are not immediate. Some of us still work for a living, not for Adobe..

  • Why Is Verizon Customer Service So Bad?

    Why does Verizon choose to have such bad customer service?  Doesn't Verizon understand that if they had good customer service, they'd have a lot more customers?  And if they had a lot more happy customers, they'd make a lot more money and even be able to lower their rates a little, which would get them even more customers and money.

    I agree, I used to think Ntelos was bad till I got here. Try dialing *611 and finding a human to talk to after exhausting all the patronizing menus. Don't see any phone numbers for people on their website either, might be well hidden.
    My wife finally called the local store and got thru to a person.

  • Simple question. Why is your customer "support" so bad?

    You're f@#king p#ss$ng off your customers so that you get a better bottom line. That no way to run a business. I've had the same problem now for almost a month. Have been getting 1 email/repsonse a day for 2 weeks and now the last week i've gotten no responses. I'm a premium customer and i'm about to cancel my subscription over this. I don't want to be told "Just fill in our contact us form" or "You can tweet us on @SpotifyCares" because i've done both those things and your support has been less than helpful. Why do you not have a chat platform or a phone number i can contact?

  • Unsatisfactory customer care

    There is still no official word from Nokia on the low audio problem with the Lumia 800 after the 7.8 upgrade.
    Maybe Nokia have their head stuck too far up the backside of the camera division and have forgotten that smart phones are equally used for music and audio.
    If Nokia can't fix it, or can't be bothered to, then they should give users the option of restore to version 7.5 since many would regard an effective audio player more important than larger tiles and the frippery of the 7.8 upgrade.
    First wp7 users were abandoned by MS when they dumped it for wp8 and now Nokia seem content to let a major smartphone feature fail.
    My contract comes up for renewal in November and I'm considering going back to Apple or maybe even android. Bad audio and bad customer care is a big deal breaker for me.

  • Poor Customer care and product

    We finally need to stop purchasing HP computers until they get their act together. I was a strong supporter of HP. Now they can't get me to buy a cord! Their are a lot of people that WAS satisfied with HP, such as myself. I have learned my lesson very well!!! They are the WORST company ever! DELL does help and u <I am going back to great service.

    Hi there,
    I just read about your bad experiences with HP customer service, I had to deal with the same thing and I was angry because few days ago I just got my HP Compaq back from Geek Squad because I had a faulty hardrive. When I got it back to me few days ago they didn't bring my AC Adapter and my power cord like they were suppose to I got very upset. I had to buy one that cost me $85.00 from Best Buy and I called HP customer service and I told them what happened and they did post me my AC Adapter and I just got it today and they didn't put in the powder cord with it and I was very upset and I called them and made a complaint.
    This stupid lady told me that she will put me through hardware and she didn't, she kept lying to me. I told her "THE PROBLEM IS THAT NOBODY IN THE HARDWARE DEPARTMENT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, IT SEEMS LIKE THE RUSH AND NOT PAY ATTENTION. When I did talk to this guy from Hardware, he was very arrogant and rude and he was arguing with me and I said, "YOUR NOT LISTENING TO A WORD I'M SAYING, I SAID THAT I'M MISSING A POWER CORD WITH MY AC ADAPTER AND I NEED THAT. He wasn't going to do that for me til I yelled at him.
    I'm sorry I don't like to speak to nobody from India because I can't understand them. I'm not prejudice at all and I wished that I can talk to one of my fellow Americans. I don't think I'm ever going to buy an HP computer again, I may switch to Dell because I heard they are good. My dad says that he never had a problem with his HP Pavillion ever.
    He thinks they are so great, I don't think so
    I know how you feel trust me

  • XmlDataProvider .... is gone completely in my Xaml file. Why? How many different ways to deal with xml data source through WPF

    I followed a procedure described in a book.
    1. insert "Inventory.xml" file to a project "WpfXmlDataBinding" .
    2. add the XML data source through the data panel of "blend for 2013", named it "InventoryXmlDataStore" and store it in the current document.
    3. dragged and droppped the nodes from the Data panel onto the artboard.
    Then I checked my Xaml file against the one provided by the book
    Xaml file by the book:
    <Window.Resources>
    <!-- This part is missing in my xaml file --><XmlDataProvider x:Key="InventoryDataSource"
    Source="\Inventory.xml"
    d:IsDataSource="True"/>
    <!-- This part is missing in my xaml file -->
    <DataTemplate x:Key="ProductTemplate">
    <StackPanel>
    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=@ProductID}"/>
    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Cost}"/>
    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Description}"/>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding XPath=HotItem}"/>
    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Name}"/>
    </StackPanel>
    </DataTemplate>
    </Window.Resources>

    <ListBox HorizontalAlignment="Left"
    ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource ProductTemplate}"
    ItemsSource="{Binding XPath=/Inventory/Product}"
    Margin="89,65,0,77" Width="200"/>
    </Grid>
    my Xaml file:
    <Window x:Class="WpfXmlDataBinding.MainWindow"
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"

    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Cost}"/>
    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Description}"/>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding XPath=HotItem}"/>
    <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Name}"/>
    </StackPanel>
    </DataTemplate>

    All looks quite the same except the <XmlDataProvider ....> part under <Window.Resources>, which is gone completely in my Xaml file.

    Thanks, guys.

    Never do yourself down Richard.
    Leave that to other people.
    It's quite common for smart developers to think they're not as good as they are.
    I coach a fair bit and it's a surprisingly common feeling.
    And to repeat.
    Never use anything ends .. provider.  They're for trivial demo apps.  Transform xml into objects and use them.  Write it back as xml.  Preferably, use a database.
    You want to read a little mvvm theory first.

    I'm writing an article at the moment which is aimed at beginners.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/30564.wpf-uneventful-mvvm.aspx
    The sample is just a collection of techniques really.
    I have a sample which involves no real data but is intended to illustrate some aspects of how viewmodels "do stuff" and how you use datatemplates to generate UI.
    I can't remember if I recommended it previously to you:

    And I have working samples which are aimed at illustrating line of business architecture.  This is an incomplete step by step series but I  think more than enough to chew on once you've done the previous stuff.

  • Xperia z1: a BAD BAD experience regarding customer care, service center and sony india.

    I have bought a xperia Z1 at 29th march 2014. I was very happy after buying it but after 2 months it becomes a trouble for me. after 2 months of purchasing i found a sensor problem occured in the phone, due to which auto rotate function was not responding. i submitted my mobile and after 7 days i got a new one. but unfortunately my mobile slipped from my pocket and fell down on floor, because of that my mobile phone screen gor a crack. since it was under accidental warranty i submitted my mobile phone to the service centre and they told me that they have sent the application for approval at 21st july. later on 23rd morning i got information from customer care, that my application has ben rejected. again at 23rd july they told me that they have again submitted the application an will revert in 2 days.
    after 2 days i.e. at 25th they told me that there is no answer from sony india head office due to which they are unable to provide me standby. after a long argument with service head at customer care, service centre provided me a stand by, till i was using nokia 1100  . the biggest problem arised yesterday i.e 4th aug, when i called at service centre they told me that there is no approval and same word was on behalf of service center.
    its been more than 15 days and the service center told me that i'll have my mobile after 15 days. now i'm losing my temper , no clear solution is provided to me and still i have no info about the application they have sent. this my message to aware all about the bad services provided to me by (don't know personally i.e service center/customer care/sony india). this is clear warning if i doesn't have my mobile within 7 days, i'm gonna complaint to consumer court.

  • Why was I given false info about my delivery from customer care?

    I pre-ordered two phones in store. I had to pay out my current edge up price in order to edge up early to the iphone 6. I also got another phone on my line edged up to the iphone 6 plus. At the store I asked if I could bill the initial payment to my account (I have billed to my account on several other occasions). The in store rep said I could not bill this particular charge to my account, which I was totally okay with. I gave my debit and he swiped it. This morning my card was charged because my order shipped; I have no problem with this method, but I am frustrated I did not know this from the beginning.
    Also, I contacted customer support after receiving a text that my account had been charged $54.13. I checked my bank account and Verizon had actually charged me $80.90. Why wasn't I notified of the correct amount?
    I spoke with customer service this morning. The first rep was named Courtney I believe. She told me my phone was out for delivery today. After both USPS and UPS had been to my apartment I went down and checked for a slip saying they missed me: no slip. I called customer service to get the tracking number so I could further look into the issue. The second rep I spoke with was Mitchell. He said the package was in the city of the store I had ordered at and may have been delivered to the store. He called the store I ordered at and conferenced me into the call. Mitchell was no longer on the line randomly so I stayed on to see if someone at the store could help. The store rep told me that phones are not delivered to the store and she could not look up any account information over the phone. She referred me back to customer care. I called for the third time hoping to get some answers; I believe this rep's name was Ignasio. He was absolutely the most helpful and straight forward, but he informed me that the previous two reps were incorrect and could NOT have known any information about my phone's delivery status because it had not been issued a tracking number yet-he called Fed Ex with me on the line and Fed Ex confirmed that a tracking number had not been created because the package had not been shipped yet. I WAS SO FRUSTRATED that I was given false information from two different reps and never told a charge would be placed on the account the day the phone began processing to be shipped. Had I known that information when I placed the order in-store I would have known that the phone had just been processed for shipping today, because that's when my payment processed. I was not rude to anyone that I spoke to today, but I wanted to write this out because I was frustrated with the entire experience. How could I be given specific delivery info about my package if there is not even a tracking number for it yet?

    Welcome to dealing with Verizon's customer anti-care.  I have had a similar experience over the last week.  I tried to order 2 Iphone 6s and an Iphone 6 plus to replace the Iphone 5s, my family now use.  When I tried to order the phones on Apple's website, there was a weird error saying that I could only pick up the phone in an Apple store.  I called customer care to find out the issue.  They of course blamed Apple and said I could order the phones on Verizon's website.  I said that would be fine except that I was concerned with the shipping times, since my wife and daughter's phones are starting to have issues and I did not want them  to have to wait until late October - early November when the phones they want showed to be in stock with Verizon.  The representative said that the phones would ship as they are available so the silver 128GB silver Iphone would ship the next day, the Space Gray 128GB would ship on 10/3 and the Iphone plus would ship on 10/31.  I went ahead and went online and ordered the phones.  I waited until 10/2 to call to find out what happened to the silver Iphone and was told that none of the phones would ship until they were all in stock.  I cancelled the order and figured I would order them from Apple.  I asked when I cancelled the order how long it would be til I could place an order with Apple and was told it usually will let you order immediately, but in some cases it can take a couple of hours.  This was at about 8:00pm on 10/2.
    On the morning of 10/3 on went to Apples website and it said that there was a reservation for the lines in question.  I again called and spent an hour on the phone with Verizon to find out that the previous representative had not cancelled the order.  There were lots of notes to cancel the order, but the order was still pending.  The rep Louise was terrific and even sent me a screen shot to show that the order was cancelled.  I waited a couple of hours and tried to order the phones again.  The error saying that I would have to go to the Apple store was back.  I called Verizon they said it was on Apple's end.  I called Apple and they said it was on Verizon's end.  I decided to go to the local Apple store to see if they could help.  The rep at the Apple store was really helpful and said that is the same message they see when someone is setting up a new Verizon account (We have been with Verizon since 2002, and have never been late on a payment).  During our investigation the Iphone 6s showed available at another Apple store about 10 miles away.  I ordered the phone and set up personal pick up for the phones.  I went to the Apple store with the phones showed them my personal pick up confirmation and Verizon was blocking the phones from being sold.  I checked my account and I had already been charged by Apple.  Luckily the Apple store have a personal representative to contact for issues, it took 2 hours on the phone with her but eventually I was able to get the 2 Iphone 6s and go home.  I also had the Verizon representative tell me that it could be my employer discount causeing the error.  I went through the process of removing the employer discount and still cannot order the phones through the Apple store.  I bit the bullet and ordered from Verizon knowing that I will probably not receive my phone til next year even though my email says it will ship by 10/31.

    I have upload my Adode Creative Suit 5 design premium on my first apple mac pro successfully.,i purchased in a retail shop few year ago...!as it have two use of the CD when installing ..i'm trying to install it on my other apple mac pro..but this time it is say that the serial number is not valid..i got it checked by Customer care, they said it is valid and should be working when set up on my laptop..can someone pose help as i don't know who to turn now to find answers...many thanks
    Kind Regards

    Hi Rich,
    The cause of this can be multiple. First of all be sure you use the original CD + serial. In case of a download same story. Try to find out if the installed version match the language of the serial (they need to match). Last but not least: Check if you use a upgrade version, if so it might be needed to fill 2 serials.
    Can you share a screen of the error (please hide the SN )

    Their service centres at gujarat and toll free no.s customer care executives are non responsive and indifferent to issues/problems of customer. they dont pick the phone, If once the call is attended the call is disconnected after giving uncooked anwers and take no liability and in opposite they direct me to do things which are supposed to be in their domain.

The same no.s are also given by customer care executive .  They refused to give verified current no. and do not feel the responsibilty to provide working nos.Any how I managed to get the current working no. The person responding Mr. sanjay outrightly rejected my service request on the ground that I have purchased the blackberry Z10 through online retail portal. They did not even pay attention about to check IMIE no. to verify whether it comes under Redington India perview.My series of conversation with various people on customer care centre and service centre made them realise that their notion of not providing service to a online purchased phone is not correct. They realised , even after they not attend to our problem and issues.
     Even my blackberry phone, the worst phone I purchased is in dead condition , it is under warranty , still no people of the service centre or toll free people show any concern or directed the path to follow.

    hi i called the customer care to repair my iphone 5c and the advisor told me there are no Apple store in Belgium you have to go to paris, i have to pay 300euros to travel to paris !!! i bought a battery on eBay and i replaced the mine but the problem was not the battery but the logic board.
    i called i second time Apple customer care and the advisor told me you can take your iphone to Easy-m (repair center agreed by Apple inc.). i left my iphone to this shop and now he will not repair it for me because i opened this one.
    the first advisor told me there are no apple store in brussel and you have to travel to paris ... it's not my fault if the advisor was not good trained ... i bought my iphone and he still on warranty to 27 December i will this iphone 5c repaired

    if this iphone is not repaired i will do a complaint !!!
    thanks for understanding

    Apple will not touch any iPhone that has been opened by anybody other than certified technicians, especially when they install an unknown battery from an unknown source.  You have sacrificed any support and warranty from Apple:
    "This warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports; (c) to damage caused by use with another product; (d) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquake or other external cause; (e) to damage caused by operating the Apple Product outside the user manual, the technical specifications or other Apple Product published guidelines; (f) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider ("AASP"); (g) to an Apple Product that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Apple; (h) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the Apple Product; or if any serial number has been removed or defaced from the Apple Product, or (j) if the product is stolen or Apple reasonably believes that the product is stolen based on information provided by law enforcement authorities."

  • How can I better influence Customer Care to cover the known defective NVidia 8600 processor in my MBP which is just over 4 yr old?!

    I have an 11/2007 MBP... 4 yrs, 2 months and 3 weeks old tomorrow.  Yesterday I got the "black screen of death".
    I won't bore you with what I tried, but today a local expert assessed the situation: reset SMC and PRAM, noted that it booted into target disc mode and would screen share, in other words, he proved it was one of the known MBP's of this genre (15", 2.4/2.2GHz) to have a defective NVIDIA 8600 graphics processor.  I called the recommended local Apple Authorized repair facility only to be told that, while these WERE being repaired at no charge, out of warranty, it had been discoved that, OMG they were repairing a WHOLE BUNCH of them and a time limit had been imposed and there were no longer being repaired after they reached four years from purchase date.
    WHY WAS THERE NOT A RECALL?  WHY WAS NO ONE EVER NOTIFIED OF THIS DEFECT? And why am I just SOL because my computer chose to work an extra two months and eighteen days?
    I plowed through the "you don't have phone service" with battering ram efficiency this evening, past the Apple care agent, his supervisor, and to "Customer Care" with whom I will be speaking again tomorrow.  I have told them I "EXPECT" a "customer satisfaction code" which will provide me with a free repair.  I have armed myself with the absolutely outrageous information that Apple, after booting NVidia out three years ago (one guesses after the rotten graphics bit) is welcoming them BACK this spring - Oh, so ANOTHER generation of MBPro users can get screwed?
    I sure could use some help here when I need another argument!  Does anyone know the magic language to induce Apple to behave in an Apple-like manner concerning this matter?

    Their is no "magic language".  The 4 years has passed and you have nothing to argue about: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377.  Apple owes you nothing anymore regarding the out of warranty repair on your mac.  How long do you expect them to repair this for? 7 years, 10 years?
