Why Is OS X Lion Still Broken?

Is there a fix for the Lion Root User Logout Problem? After logging into the root user on Lion I cannot logout by choosing logout, I cannot shut down the computer by choosing shut down, I cannot restart the computer by choosing restart, and I can not open "about this mac" by choosing that option. So, virtually, all the choices under the apple menu, when logged in as root, with Lion 10.7.5, do not work. The one time it did try to logout the machine "hung" and I eventually had to do a hard shutdown. Further, if any other user is also logged in when I try to logout of root on Lion I can switch to that account and find that choosing logout in root is actually logging out that other account. I am really not laughing about this, not by any means; if I wanted an operating system that does not just work, then, I would have used one of the operating systems I have always believed is j***, or something.
note: I want to logout of root by using the options under the apple menu, not by any other means. If that can not be done, then, I consider lion broken. I understand root and how to use it; what I do not understand is this outrageously bizarre behaviour while trying to do something as simple as logout, restart, or view "about mac" from Lion 10.7.5 root user. Incidentally, my root account, on OS X, is usually disabled; I have always enabled them only when I need to use them, and when I am not online, and then disabled them again. Most of the time I use a standard account.

Nothing to be concerned about. The download is available if you want to download Lion again to create an install disc or re download Lion on any other authorized Macs you have for free using the same Apple ID.

View Options Still Broken

View options was broken in Lion (some carried over, others became a white background with greyed out options). I was hoping against hope that this would get fixed in mountain Lion, but my User folder's View Options, for example, is still broken. What will it take to fix this? Can anyone help?

Ok, I think I might have figured out what you are describing.
Sorry to inform you, but you can't set any backgrounds if you have an arrangement set. Arrangement must be set to None in order to set a background color or picture. And, it can only be done in Icon view.
There is nothing "broken." Just too difficult to implement, I imagine.

Everyday I start download of xcode, at the end of day it archived several hundred MBs, but the next day the download start from 0 again, it took me two weeks and I'm still trapped in this!

Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General
Click the lock icon bottom left corner of the pane. You may be prompted for your admin password.
Select: Mac App Store and identified developers
Click the lock icon to prevent further changes.
Relaunch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar (top of your screen) click Store > Check for Unfinished Downnloads or follow the insstructions here > Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads
If you still have problems ...
- Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed
- Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading
- Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.

We are fellow users here on these forums. Have you tried logging out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then logged in and seeing if it then works ?

I don't know what happened. It was fine until I tried to play back a video I was making and it didn't want to. Imported videos play fine, but when I drag a clip to the editing part it doesn't play.
I also made a short project a while ago, but no matter what I tried I couldn't delete it. I also couldn't play it again or even access the editing screen
I don't know if I imported too many videos, or have too many videos in the Project Library, but the playback screen is just not working!
The audio is completely fine, however.

Have no clue - but You might try some of this
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
• iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
• Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
• Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
• a codec is used that doesn't work
• problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
• version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
• preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
• other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
• External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
• USB-flash-memories do not work
• Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
• iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
• external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
• GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
• Screen must be set to million-colors
• Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
• Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
• Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
• Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
• In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

Apple Configurator still broken in 1.4.2 for me

My testing of 1.4.2 today shows it's still broken. I need to transfer existing supervised iPads from old 2008 MacBooks to new 2013 MacBook Airs with Mavericks. I have special ed students each assigned iPads that have unique configurations for each user. I can't just wipe the device and start over. They have many apps setup to communicate with teachers and parents that took time to configure. In the past when I needed to transfer an iPad to another laptop I was able to make a backup in iTunes un-supervise the device off the old laptop then re-supervise it on the new one. Once I copied the backup to the new laptop I was then able to open iTunes restore the backup for the students data. I then opened Apple Configurator which showed the device still supervised at which point I refreshed the device. This put the correct profiles back in place and I was off and running to enroll it back to our MDM. The product now just wipes the device and prepares it again. Since it's first release at the very beginning I've been held hostage to many times by this product. If Apple truly believes this product is the answer for enterprise and education device preparation they really need make sure the product actually works before releasing it to the masses. The hours I've wasted trying to get this working I'll never get back.
If anyone has any suggestions in how I can transfer existing devices to another laptop then restore, retain, & refresh the device without being brought back to square one I really appreciate it.

I am having issues with it not restoring the app locations on the screens or if they were in a folder.

Why is the LinkSys WET11 still expensive?

I'm needing to connect my 8 yr old daughter's CRT iMac to my wireless LinkSys router so I was going to go with the LinkSys WET11 route. I bought my router for about $40 after the rebates, why is the LinkSys WET11 still twice that? Cheapest I've found it is around $75, does that sound about right?

I can get the above adapter at my Best Buy for 19.99 after rebates, are these not worth it even for my daughter who only plays Flash games on her Barbie website a few hours a week? Her computer is about 20' away in the next room.

The install is really simple.
Set the device to "Client" with the switch on the bottom.
Plug the ethernet plug into the ethernet port on the iMac and the plug the USB cable into the USB port for power. If the port is not available, you can just use the supplied transformer.
Open your browser and Type "http://192.168.0.30" in the URL box unless the included instructions give you a different address to use. This will begin the communication between the device and the computer.
A login screen will appear. Type "admin" for the user name and leave the password blank. Press the enter key.
The home screen will appear and give you a lot of selections that may seem kind of scary. You really don't have to worry about them. Select the "Run Wizard" option.
The next screen shows you the steps that follow.
Select the "Next" option.
The next screen allows you to change the username and password for the device. Use your own judgement here if you want to make any changes.
Select "Next" from the bottom.
The next screen allows you to select the wireless network connection you want. I recommend you choose the "Site Survey" option and allow it to find your wireless system. Then select it and Select the "Next" option at the bottom.
The next page allows you to select encryption if you want to use it. Do what you want here. (I left the encryption off for my own reasons.) Then select "next"
The next screen tells you that the setup is completed and that you need to restart the device. Select "Restart"
The next screen will prompt you to close the wizard and will return you to the home screen.
Close your browser.
I am running OSX10.3 so I went to system preferences/network and made sure that the etherent showed it was connected. Voila!
Open your browser and you should be connected.
All of this assumes that there aren't unusual setups or preferences already set.

Why can't I see still images in the playback monitor when editing a video? I have rendered the images in the project. I checked my system to make sure it meets all the requirements for the software, no problem there. When I "share" the project and save it as an MPEG, the images show up in WMP just fine. But I need to be able to see what I'm doing to the stills while I am editing. Help!

compiled Test class is located in the same directory as the source file and

I have my username(@me.com)@icloud.com plus the current 3 aliases + 4 old aliases from MobileMe.
So 16 possible email directions ?¿ I cannot see these 4 old aliases nowhere except on friends preferencies.
Can be removed somwhere?
