Why my applsys tablespace is so large?

now my applsysd and applsysx tablespace are larger than 7G,who can tell me if there are some problem?thanks!

The "e.g." is aimed at the possibility that the object extents are oversized vis-a-vis number of rows, etc.
Do any of the objects (tables/indexes) standout in terms of being significantly larger than the others.
You may also want to take a look at dba_extents. The file_id column relates to dba_data_files. This should allow you to see what objects have extended into the newer files.
Also, there are some tables (with assoc. indexes) that reflect activity. Are you running the concurrent processes to purge concurrent requests and/or signon audit data ?

  • Why does Java have such a large footprint?

I've been curious about this topic for a while, but I haven't ever looked into this to any depth. I also posted this to stackoverflow but haven't gotten any solid responses so far:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1107991/why-does-java-have-such-a-large-footprint
Java - or at least Sun's Hotspot JVM - has long had a reputation for having a very large memory footprint. What exactly is it about the JVM that gives it this reputation? I'd be interested in a detailed breakdown: how much memory goes to the runtime? (The JIT? The GC/memory management? The classloader?) Anything related to "auxiliary" APIs like JNI/JVMTI? The standard libraries? (Which parts get how much?) Any other major components?
I realize that this may not be straightforward to answer without a concrete application plus VM configuration, so just to narrow things down at least somewhat: I'm primarily interested in default/typical VM configurations, and in a baseline console "Hello world" app as well as any real-world desktop or server app. (I'm suspecting that a substantial part of the JVM's footprint is largely independent of the app itself, and it is in this part that I'd like to zoom in, ideally.)
I have a couple of other closely related questions:
Other similar technology, such as .NET/mono, don't exhibit nearly the same footprint. Why is this the case?
I've read somewhere on the intarwebs that a large portion of the footprint is due simply to the size of the standard libraries. If this is the case, then why is so much of the standard libraries being loaded up front?
Are there any efforts (JSRs, whatever) to tame the memory footprint? The closest thing I've come across is a project to reduce the on-disk footprint of the JVM [1] and to modularize the standard library [2].
I'm sure that the footprint has varied over the past decade or so with every new version of Java. Are there any specific numbers/charts chronicling precisely how the JVM's footprint has changed?

Presumably versus some other VM. I would suppose the fact that much of the VM is written in java has something to do with it.

Not sure I agree with that. What size do you see with a .Net app that uses 3.0/3.5?
I've read somewhere on the intarwebs that a large portion of the footprint is due simply to the size of the standard libraries. If this is the case, then why is so much of the standard libraries being loaded up front?
Good question. There is a feature that allows multiple VMs to use the same memory footprint version of the loaded libraries. That is a new feature and it isn't clear to me if it covers the entire API. I do not know if that is dynamically built.

  • Why would an alias file be larger than the original file?

I have a simple document that is 106kb. When I create an alias to the file, the alias is 133kb. Why would the alias file be larger than the orginal file when the alias file is simply a redirect to the original file?

  • Why are my .moxl files so large?

I am trying to slim down our team site collection--a never-ending struggle you're all famiiar with. :-)
So, I am in Storage Metrics looking for large files. Some of my forms library SharePoint Designer workflows are HUGE! in one, the .moxl file is 47 MB!
Why do these files get so large, and what can I do about it? I though all worlfow files were realtively small.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to know the reason of xoml file is large.
xoml file is a serialization of workflow object. When creating
the workflow in workflow designer, it builds object tree and serialized it into XOML format.I suggest you can check which workflow the xoml file belongs to.

  • Why execution of jar is taking larger time

    Hi,
I have the signed applet code in JDK1.1, and for the same code base size of jar file is larger then cab file, this is because of insertion of Manifest files in the jar.
Now I am executing the same code using both JRE(jar file) and MVM(cab file). But I am observing time difference between the two executions.
Using JRE 1.5.0_07, times comes out to be approximately 2 times of the time taken by execution using MVM.
Can anyone tell me the reason , why execution of jar is taking larger time then that of cab.
         Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for help
    Jim

Spilled messages (of that kind) are messages that are dequeued and stored on disks by the apply process. It happens when messages are in the queue for too long or consuming too much memory. That has several drawbacks (1) spilled messages are logged in the target database, you don't benefit anymore from the fact messages are usually in-memory and (2) You consume space in the partitioned table you've shown. On the other hand you don't have an unlimited set of memory and you must have a mechanism to release some.
An easy way to get messages spilled is to modify a large amount of data on the source on one transaction or leave uncommitted transactions. You can get data about the source transactions that generated those messages in DBA_APPLY_SPILL_TXN or directly in SYS.STREAMS$_APPLY_SPILL_MSGS_PART. You can use the the procedure Oracle provides in the doc to display the content of the messages.
Try to identify why you get those message and shorten transactions on the source. Make sure you run the recommended patches on top of 10.2.0.4 too. There are several known in that area.

  • HT204247 Why is my iPhone Backup WAY larger than estimated? Pics incl.

    Thank you for reading!
I have an iPhone 5S 16 GB running ios 8.1.3. My iPhone is being backed up to iCloud. Currently the backup is estimated at nearly 600 MB. I am utilizing iCloud photostream. I do not have photos saved locally. The largest app under the estimate (when clicking "manage more storage" is only 12 mB.
Why is the backup SO large?!

You are welcome for reading. 600 MB backup is not large, by all means. I have no imessages, about 60 photos and my backup is over 1 Gig. You just don't realize what happens with files. If you were to create smallest file possible by using notepad on your computer and typing one letter, it would still have more then 20 kbytes. We are talking apps that require bigger files for even smallest stuff. So you can pursue that avenue - why or why or just be happy that yet you don't have to pay for storage over 5 gigs. Your poison.

  • Why is menu size so much larger than the files?

I am somewhat perplexed - I'm making a single-layer dvd and have a simple single screen theme (no animation) - it has one drop zone. The movie has 28 chapters so there are five of them, but so far I've added only one montage of photos to each menu page - it's a "mobile" quality in media browser and ave only 10 - 20 MB, then one song. On average these movie clips are 1:00 to 2:00 min long and the music is cut to that length. So, all told, it's probably less than 110 MB in files - but when I look at the project properties, the menus are 3301 MB!!!
The movie itself is only 1.1 GB so what is going on?
It's preventing me from doing the project and I've got no idea why it's making the menu size so much larger than the file sizes?
Can you please help me figure out what to do?
    Alexa

The 2 min clips were natively 2 min - I had each one separate and actually converted to media browser in "mobile" size (b/c the drop zone was 4 x 6 in size in the theme). They were tiny - in most cases I was shortening the audio (e.g. the song was 4 minutes and I was setting the loop to only 1:30 b/c that's how long the video clip was on the menu).
BUT, to resolve the question (I always like to post the answer) - I ended up duplicating the project to try to reimport the video. It was a fresh iDVD project and I happened to click on the project tree of screens - and, lo and behold, the ENTIRE menu was duplicated for some reason (and the movie, actually). I went back to the original and it was the same! I have no idea how that would happen do you? It only had one main menu screen - and then an entire duplicate menu - which I wouldn't even know how to access if I didn't see it in the project menu tree?
The only think of is that at one point I added a title menu link to the scene selection - it gave me a warning that my menu was more than 12 minutes, did I want to fix or ignore and fix later - which confused me b/c it was under 12 min, then but I clicked ignore. Does that create an alternate title menu and send people back to something else?
Anyway, I deleted the entire extra scene selection menus (5 of them) and it was back to under 4 GB.
So, I was able to burn, but still wondering about creating the "title menu" link on scene selections? It drives me crazy that it doesn't automatically do that so I like to add "main menu" links.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Why is my iBooks textbook so large?

So we  have been developing iBook textbooks at our offices for for a few months now. It's a great software and our company is really happy with interactivity of the books. However, we are using video now  inside our iBooks and I don't understand why the books are turning out to be such huge files. Unfortunately, we cannot link our books online right now, as we would like to keep the movies contained inside the textbook. But what really confuses me, is this:
    - after all of our videos have been converted into .m4v  format, the combined size is about 1 GB
    - one block, with several videos, turns out to be 750 MB (in the largest case). This book doesn't even incorporate one third of the videos.
The only thing I can think of, is that our books are developed so that several videos are reappearing in different pages. That is to say, a video that appears in page-one, might also appear on page 3, page 7, and page 10. So perhaps, as opposed to indexing the videos in the back end, and then pointing those files to the appropriate page, I have a feeling that iBooks is copying new instances of the same video file for each page. Can anyone give me any idea if they know this is what's going on? This is the only thing I can imagine that would make our books so large. And, if this is happening, does anyone have a workaround so that if we have the same video on multiple pages, it won't copy multiple video files - instead iBooks will be smart, and grab the one indexed file to be used in multiple pages?
I'm praying someone can give me some insight, because no one at the Apple store or anywhere else has been able to give me any satisfactory information regarding this, and we really need to bring the file size of our iBooks down.
    Cheers,

So it looks like the real answer I need is: how do I reduce file size but keep as close to HD quality as possible.  I know there's no magic formula but I think I'm tired of trial and error / survival. I don't understand how someone can rip a 2 hour DVD quality movie into 700MB but one of our ultra compressed, 5 minute videos we make takes up 90MB, and is nowhere near the quality of a DVD (despite being filmed in a film studio with HD cameras in the beginning).
I have over two hours of video in my book and encode as 640x480. That looks decent on an iPad, and costs about 10 MB per minute. That kept my book size to a (not entirely reasonable) 1.3 GB.
Work on your encoding process. How many minutes of video do you have in total, and how much of that is duplicated by being included more than once?
Also, Michigan, can you post your prior advice again below so that I can give you the "this solved my problem" points?  Thanks to both you and KT for all the help thus far.

  • Why are the incremental backups so large??!!   16GB vs. 300MB

I have the Time Machine system preference turned to Off, as I do the backups Manually every couple of weeks (Back Up Now from the Menu Bar). Here is what puzzles me: I don't work with large files. My incremental increase in size in a couple of weeks might be 200-300 Megabytes. Yet, each incremental backup is 12- 16 GB, which of course takes forever. Can anyone shed any light into why the large size??

what Tesserax said ! or, if you have +disk warrior+ installed, it could be its +trash protection+ folder.
install timetracker from here. it will let you look at any given backup and determine what has been backed up. that way, i discovered the DW folder as the culprit and excluded the sucker from being backed up. voila, backups came back to a regular size

  • Can you tell me why my temp tablespace can not release automatically?

when i up the database, the temp tablespace is used by o,but after some time it is used 99.99%,even all the task are finished,it is still used 99.99%,and can not release automatically!
who can tell me than is why?

Are you receiving an error ?
A "Temporary" tablespace manages it's allocation differently than a normal tablespace. The idea is to avoid the overhead of extent allocation, etc.
    Take a look at:

  • Why can't I export as "large"?

I have made a movie that I have shared to the media browser as medium. I would also like a "large" version but the option is greyed out. Where it is listed in the project library, the two smallest blobs are grey, the medium blob is white but the large blob is an open square.
The other movie I have made, using the same DV camcorder, has the large option available.
    So why the difference?
    Rachel

I've worked out what I was doing wrong.
I was able to export my first (widescreen) movie as large without difficulty. In the subsequent movies I wasn't given the large option as they were 4:3. They were filmed when we'd just bought the camera and hadn't realised the widescreen button wasn't switched on. Goodness knows how I can have been working with iMovie for nearly a fortnight and not realised I was looking at 4:3 clips!
Aaron, I just want to add, your blog is excellent. Today I found out how to make black spaces between scenes after searching the iMovie help in vain. Here's a link for anyone who's not read it yet.

  • Converting TableSpace : Normal  to Large

    Hello,
    I have a SAP R/3 470 - DB2 9.5. A few years ago was migrated from DB2 8.2 to 9.5, but Tablespace not been converted to LARGE.
Today I have one Tablespace (PRD#BTABD) that is near the limit of growth (64GB).
    I have the following questions:
1 - What are the steps to convert only that Tablespace? Can I convert one tablespace only?
2 - I need to organize indexes and tables afterward? How to do this?
3 - I have three environments: DEV - QAS and PRD. Converting only Tablespace  PRD#BTABD in the environment PRD, could have problems with transport requests or client copy?
    thanks

    Hi Johannes ,
So to avoid the SQL1236N scenario, first I convert the Tablespaces PRD#BATABD and PRD#BTABI and then run reorg on all tables of these tablespaces.
Running reorg these tablespace is already rearranging the indices. OK?
I'm following the procedures of the link http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0702nesiem/
    Q. Do I need to run the REORG INDEXES first and then REORG TABLE?
    A. The table REORG performs the reorganization of the data and the indexes on the table. An index REORG is not required after this action. Bear in mind the table REORG That takes more time and must be Performed offline. An index REORG Might be sufficient depending on the expected growth of the table
    doubt:
Since I convert the Tablespace PRD#BTABD and PRD#BTABI and run reorg on tables these tablespaces, I do not need to convert all the other SAP tablespaces. OK?
    tks
