Why My iPhone Shuts Off When I Still Have Battery Life Remaining?

iI'm using iPhone 5, since last week, my iPhone has kept shutting down Suddenly. Although, there is plenty of battery.
However, it happens if the battery remains less than 30%, it seems to be shutting down.
Do I need to see someone at Genius Bar sometime soon?

The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.

  • My MBP randomly shuts off at around 40-45% Battery Life

    Hi:
About 2 weeks ago, my computer unexpectedly shuts off when it reaches around 40-50% battery life.
I've done all the necessary calibration tests but to no avail. I've had my MBP since 2007 along with the original battery. Is this a matter of the battery dying or are there other bugs in the MBP that I should be worried about. Here are the details when it's at 45% and likely to shut down:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4328
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1726
    Amperage (mA): -2442
    Voltage (mV): 10350
    Cycle Count: 747

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The usual rule of thumb is that a good battery should retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 300 cycles. You have 747 cycles, and are well beyond the 300 cycle benchmark. It is no wonder that it is beginning to show signs of failure. In my opinion, it is just worn out from normal usage and it's time for a new one.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone shuts off when I use the internet on the 3G network & I can't upgrade/restore because of network connection error. Any Help?

A few months ago, while on the 3G network, my iPhone 3GS starting turning off randomly when I was using safari or an online app and the battery was somewhere around 5-20%. When this happened the only way to get the phone back on was by fully charging it which sometimes took a few hours even. It wasn't a big deal at the time because it was infrequent and while the phone was at a low battery %. However, in the past few months, around the time I upgraded to iOS 5.1 it started happened more and more often and at higher and higher battery percentages. It is now at a point where my phone shuts off every time I connect to the 3G network regardless of what my battery life is. I have called Rogers several times to complain about this and I have been told it is because of the battery for the most part but I don’t buy it; the problem has got to be more significant than the battery alone because I can listen to music and send texts at anytime and fully use the internet when I am connected to Wi-Fi. I more recently talked to someone in tech support from Rogers who said my phone cannot support the iOS 5.1 software and that is why it is crashing. They also asked if my phone was heating up more now than in the past and it is. They said this was further evidence that my phone was couldn't handle the new software and was basically on overload.  I was told to the best solution was to "Back Up" my iPhone then do a full "Restore". Here is where my next problem comes along. I cannot "Restore" my iPhone without doing an upgrade and every time I attempt to "Upgrade & Restore" an error message pops up that says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "...". The network connection timed out/was reset. -Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later". I have followed all of the protocol that is readily available online to address this problem but still no success. I disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs, I have ensured my connection is active and stable, I have upgraded to the newest iTunes, I have uninstalled iTunes and all apple programs in the correct order then reinstalled iTunes, I have disabled my DNS cache. Nothing works.
If you have any advise whatsoever please share as it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I was actually able to upgrade to the newest software, iOS 5.1.1 without connecting to my computer/iTunes but rather directly through my phone when I was home on Wi-Fi. After the upgrade I plugged my phone into a different USB port at the back of my computer and was able to do a full restore. I really don't think the USB port had anything to do with it because I use the same front USB port all the time with my external hard drive and other devices wuth no problems at all; regardless of what the actual solution was, I am now able to connect to iTunes and upgrade/restore without any problems so that half of my problem is resolved.
I have yet to leave my house since doing the upgrade/restore so I am not sure if the problem with my phone crashing when I use the interent on the 3G is still an issue. I will test it today and tomorrow and give you an update.
    Thanks

  • IPhone shuts off when in sleep mode

So I am currently on a refurbished iPhone 3g because my other one had some visual issues. Now my problem is everytime i have my iPhone in sleep mode it shuts off after about 20-25 seconds and i can only turn it back on again by holding down the home button and sleep button together. Does anyone know a solution to this problem or had the same problem???
    Thanks, Michael

    Hey SurgeCentral,
Are you using any 3rd-party accessories with the iPhone?
Try syncing and backing up the data on the iPhone, then restore it and set it up as a new phone.

  • Computer dying when it still has battery life?

I don't know what's going on, my laptop is just shutting off without any warning and there is still about half of the battery life left. I will just be searching the web or chatting on AIM and it just shuts down. Any explanation for this or something I can try to prevent it from happening? thanks so much.

Once you're in System profiler, click on the first item in the list called "hardware", it has an arrow next to it and when you click on this arrow, a longer list should appear. Scan down the list under the hardware title until you see the item named "power", once you've done this, all the information about your battery will show up... it should look like this:
    System Power Settings:
    AC Power:
    System Sleep Timer (Minutes): 0
    Disk Sleep Timer (Minutes): 10
    Display Sleep Timer (Minutes): 20

    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 5546
    Amperage (mA): 0

I placed the piece of information you're interested in, in bold. If this number is signifigantly lower than 5500, then you have a defective battery. Check your battery for bulging, or seperating, if there is serious bulging immediately stop using the battery as it could be dangerous. As said before, you will have your battery replaced free of charge by apple, as there was a silent recall for these defective batteries. I hope this helps.

  • Macbook shuts off at 28-34% of battery life!

hello, im not sure what the problem is but it shuts off at 28-34% battery life.
i updated the battery stuff and it still does it. It normally tell me if the battery is low like at 7% battery life. I need help!

Just so you know, the battery is considered a "consumable" part. It's not covered by the warranty or an AppleCare Protection Plan. If resetting the SMC and calibrating don't help, they're under no obligation to replace the battery.
That is not entirely true. This is from the Apple Warranty info.
    (f) to consumable parts, such as batteries,
    unless damage has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship;
The problem the OP is describing is not normal. My battery was replaced under warranty and it was doing the same thing. Also in the update it is noted the battery warranty/repair coverage has been extended an extra year for core duo batteries.

  • IPhone Shutting Off When In Sleep Mode

So, I had a problem with my iphone, and took it to the mac store and got it replaced.
now, my new iphone will completely shut down within minutes of being in sleep mode. it will only stay on in sleep mode when it's connected to power. is there any way to solve this problem without having to go to the mac store again?

    Hi!!
I too have the same problem. I bought the 8GB iphone about 20 days back.
Few days it worked ok, but during this time the battery was getting exhausted within 12-14Hrs. After that, one day it went into trans and stopped working. Now it only works when it is connected to the power otherwise it keeps on displaying the Apple Logo, and of course the mobile net work is disconnected.
Can somebody help me resolving the said issue.

  • Iphone shuts off but has a full battery

    Hello,
My two month old iPhone 4 just shut itself off but has over half a full battery. This has never happen before and I cannot get it to turn on even after plugging it into the charger. I have never dropped the phone either or gotten it wet. Please any help is welcome. Thank you.

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • 14" iBook G4 shuts off when I open it up

I just started having this problem two days ago with my iBook. When I close it everything looks fine, the little light in the front is lit showing that it is still on but when I open up the computer, instead of waking up, it just shuts off and then won't turn on forever. It seems like I have to hit the power button just right for it to come back on. It does not shut off at any other time, only when I open up the computer. Other than this I have no problems. It does not appear to be the battery and it does not shut down at any other time. Why is it shutting off when I try to open it and why will it not turn on again? I hope this question makes sense!

    nerone,
but when I open up the computer, instead of waking up, it just shuts off and then won't turn on forever. It seems like I have to hit the power button just right for it to come back on. I tried to put it to sleep through the Apple menu and it also shuts down then.
OK that last step eliminated the cable, reed/cable and inverter problems.
So that makes it a PMU problem. The PMU is actually a tiny computer within the computer. It's official designation is PMU99.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/DeveloperNotes/Macintosh_CPUs-G4/12inchPowerBookG4/2_Architecture/chapter_3_section4.html
    "Power Control IC
The power manager IC in the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is a Mitsubishi M16C/62F microprocessor, also called the PMU99. It operates with its own RAM and ROM. The functions of the PMU99 include:
*controlling the sleep and power on and off sequences
    *real time clock
*controlling power to the other ICs
    *monitoring the battery charge level
    *controlling battery charging
*supporting the interface to the built-in keyboard
The 12-inch PowerBook G4 can operate from a 15-volt power outlet on an airliner, however for safety reasons the computer will not allow battery charging. In order for the computer to detect the connection to airline power, the airline power cable should have a sense resistor of 24.3K ohms connected between the power plug's shell and ground.
The PMU99 also provides the hardware interface to the keyboard. Software in the PMU99 IC scans the keyboard, then sends the data to the system in packets like those from the ADB. To the system, the keyboard behaves as if they were ADB devices"
    Try resetting it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
If that doesn't work try what I call a deep PMU reset.
Pull all power including the battery, push the power button to remove residual charge in soft start capacitors.
Then walk away from it for at least 10 hours.
Try it again in the morning. Stuff like this has happened and people have left things alone and come back days, weeks and months later and their Macs are fine.
