Why not add a custom URL variable to publishing options?

This program is great to animate with, but EXTREMELY FREAKIN' FRUSTRATING to implement. A lot of this could be alleviated if the "publish" options let me specify an URL at the host level (or better yet an FTP protocol that I could upload my work with, while I'm dreaming). This way, the code could reference the folder that I put it in on my existing website and save me the step of editing the javascript and declaring a variable and redirecting every asset to it EVERY SINGLE TIME I UPDATE the stupid thing, because in case you haven't been able to tell from MY ANGRY CAPITAL LETTERS I have been having issues with getting my Edge animations to display, and when they do they are HORRIBLY BROKEN (they work in the previews and no where else), and there doesn't seem to be a lot of support here for the problems I've been having.

Unless im missing some setting somewhere, this is a major oversight on adobes part. There should be a "push URL" and "preview location" settings for projects. Push url would be the root for your medias location in the site, say something like "//www.yoursite.com/media/project1/" (notice double slash, no httpxxx) then the preview location would be using the same folder structure in something local like "C:\Users\YourAccount\Documents\edge\project1", or something on a dev server like "http://dev.yoursite.com/test/edge/project1". The difference would be the "preview location" variable would be used during construction (to preview) whereas the "push URL" variable would replace it in scripts upon publishing the media.
Also to prevent source conflicts, and for speed, there should be CDN options for the edge library + use googles CDN for the extra jquery. No sense uploading multiple instances of libraries for every media project...this also doesnt take advantage of common client caching. Also prevent breaking sites and redundant calls, allow use of legacy jQuery.

What would this prevent? Lots of things...but mostly manual fixes. For example lets say you have a media object/banner that resides on every page on the site. Under current "/" root mantra, it would function only on the homepage. As soon as you traverse to a new URL, it appends the media calls after that url. So it ends up looking for "https://www.yoursite.com/banannas-for-sale/project1" instead of "https://www.yoursite.com/media/project1/"
Hopefully someone at Adobe actually reads this and answers the hundreds of folks who have ran into this issue. Thanks.

True, but SE Asia is the only place they'd be able to sell the phone, and that is not a significant enough market sector to warrant the R&D, especially with the news that Nokia is pulling out of the Japanese handset market.
In the rest of the world, a dual-SIM phone would only interest a fraction of 10% of potential users.

Why not add a scale for accessing both scaleX and scaleY (class extensions in as3?)

I've considered and am suggesting there be a scale for both scaleX and scaleY (via a setter & getter function)
I think that one might get confused trying to get a value out of scale if scaleX and scaleY are different, but...
You could throw an error when using a variable scale (getter only) if they (scaleX&scaleY) are different, and return the value if they are the same.
It could throw more a warning and return the scaleX or scaleY or an average, and or possible have a policy (although again I can see this may seem potentially more confusing.)
I remember with ObjectiveC you could/can create a class extension that would extend a class that already exists pervasively like String.
This way you could alter functionality like this where all onjects have inheritend from a DisplayObject or whereever scaleX & scaleY are. Subclass as an Extension Class this deep lying class and add that kind of ability without needing to do it to all of your higher level classes (or other such tricks String Utility Classes etc.), which as I recall existed in ObjectiveC (and other langauges) no doubt because it was simply impossible to achieve the same effect any other way.
Is there such a way in AS3 to extend a class? Is it impossible for some reason?

is not as nice clean as

would be. I think my thoughts on explaination for why and a simple possible selection of solutions (throw catchable/discargable errors/warning or alterable policies).

TCP has retry logic. The timeout period varies by OS and configuration. TCP will typically retry three times and wait for the timeout period to expire before reporting an error. I do not believe any OS will fail in less than two minutes with the standard timeout and some systems go to 5 minutes.

Why not add a "Save Slideshow" function?

I know there are a lot of Slideshow programs around, that maybe perform even better than the Bridge "Slideshow" tool, but this one is well there and the results are not too bad looking, so why no possibility to save the result in an ".exe"?

Losing url variable after logging into session

I have a coldfusion helpdesk application that is secured with a application.cfm login system. Once a ticket is submitted it sends out an email with a link to view the ticket. The link contains a url variable to link it back to the correct ticket. If the user is not logged in, the url variable is stripped off after the login process. Is there any way to prevent this?

From your description, at least 2 requests are involved. One request takes the unauthenticated user to the login page. Together with URL variables. I would imagine that a second request then takes him - without URL variables! - from the login form to the form's action page, where his credentials are validated.
If so, then that is the expected behaviour. You could change it as follows. Enable session management, and implement the following on the login page:

<cfset session[myVar] = url[myVar]>
</cfloop>
This results in ColdFusion storing the value of each URL variable as a variable of the same name in the session scope. Thus, the values of URL.x, URL.y, etc. will be stored, respectively, as SESSION.x, SESSION.y, etc.. You could then transfer the respective values from session back into URL scope in the links in later pages.

Open a jpg; save a jpg without loss; why not?

I just purchased Elements 8 to run under Windows 7.
If I open a jpg in the editor, why do I have to experience the loss of saving it as a jpg? It's already a jpg.
In Photoshop it is possible to open and save jpg's repeatedly without loss. But not in Elements? Why not?
I understand that I have the option to save the file in photoshop format and then save it as a jpg again only after the final editing is done and the image flattened.
And I understand that I have the option to save it as a high-resolution jpg more than once.
But in Photoshop neither of those processes is necessary.
It is inconvenient not to be able to open an existing jpg and save it as such, without having to experience the loss inherent in making it a jpg again, when it is already a jpg to begin with.
Clearly this problem has been solved in Photoshop. Why not in Elements?

Saving as a jpg implies loss.
save a RAW file as a JPG -- you have loss -- cannot be avoided because JPG files hold less datasave the same RAW file as a JPG and should get the same result -- same loss
when a JPG is loaded into PSE, the missing pixels are rebuilt by expanding the data to a normalized form, but this WILL differ from the original RAW, it has to since the JPG save discarded data -- so saving again as a JPG will also discard data and since the loaded expanded form differred from the original form, this new save will discard data a bit differently -- so you get accumulated loss - hopefully not as large as the first JPG save.
Does PhotoShop differ from this? I don't see how -- unless it retains the original and keeps changes (which I believe LR does and maybe NX2, not sure).
So you CAN eliminate compounding the loss by always applying edits to the original -- but that would seem like a difficult task when you get into layers for example, so perhaps PhotoShop can reduce it for some edits -- but I don't have photoshop so I cannot test.

Add firewall rule with custom environment variable in program path

We want to create a firewall rule for a program which is placed in folder which changes sometimes. I know you can add a firewall with the ProgramFiles environment variable like this:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Test Firewall rule" dir=in program="%%ProgramFiles%%\Test\Test.exe" action=allow security=notrequired
The environment variable ProgramFiles isn't expanded and if the Program Files folder is different on a system the rule still works.
We try to use this with a custom environment variable which we set a system environment variable with this command:
SETX SomeFolder "D:\Some Folder\Apr 2015" /M
If we use the command below to add the firewall rule in a batch file the environment variable SomeFolder is expanded correctly and the program path is added as a static path.
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Some Firewall Rule" dir=in program="%SomeFolder%\AFile.exe" action=allow security=notrequired
Because the folder changes sometimes we want to change the environment variable SomeFolder and not remove the old firewall rule and create a new one. We want to add the environment variable SomeFolder to the program path as a (dynamic) environment variable
and not as the expanded path at the moment when the rule is added. If we use this command:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Some Firewall Rule" dir=in program="%%SomeFolder%%\AFile.exe" action=allow security=notrequired
We get the error:
          Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
          An error occurred while adding the rule.
          Error: The parameter is incorrect

Based on my plenty of test with this problem, it seems like there is no better method to achieve your requirement. To add new policy to firewall, it would be better using general cmdlet. The path parameter like %%SomeFolder%% do have problem in add firewall
policy cmdlet.

Default value of BeX customer Exit variable not Displayed in WeBI??

Hello Experts,
We are stuck with a problem where WeBI report is created on top of BeX query and we are not able to see the default value of Bex Customer exit variable in WeBI run. Here is the complete scenario:
1. One restricted KF is created in BeX, restricted with Customer exit variable on net Due date. And this variable is mandatory, ready for input, and Default value in calculated is user exit as current Week's Monday.
2. So, by default KF data should be restricted to Monday of current week, if user does not change this value.
3. Now, WeBI report is created on top of this Bex query, and all is working fine, i.e. we are getting variable as Prompt in WeBI, but Default value is not shown while Running the Webi Report.
So, need your inputs on the same, if default values from BeX in WeBI is supported or not? If yes, why this is happening, and how to resolve it?
Please notice, the restrcition is in KF only, it is not a separate restrcition on Net Due date in Filter area or in Defualt area of BeX
and we are on SAP BW 7.1 and BOXI 3.1 SP4.

Note: If the BEx variable has property 'ready for input' set / enabled, then its WebI prompt shows ok, but no default value appears.

Any way to add a URL variable to EVERY SINGLE url in the site, all at once?

I'm managing a web application, and we're looking at changing from using cookies, to passing session variables in every HTTP request to maintain session information.
So basically, I have a variable that needs to be appended to every single URL in the entire site - not just in links, but in cflocation tags etc.
Is there any way to just ADD information to the end of every URL, without otherwise CHANGING anything in that URL?
This site is hand-coded, but I have access to Dreamweaver CS3, so I thought I'd ask if it was possible - it'd save me a bunch of time!

I am familiar with DW's basic find/replace functions, but I don't think it'll work in this case.
See, the URL's are almost ALL unique. Many of them already include other URL variables... This is a pretty server-intensive web application, with a lot of data manipulation and database reads/writes.
So I was hoping for a function that could find all URL's (it could just look for a string containing .cfm), and append the code to include one more variable to the URL.
I see there's a way to use a regex in the find/replace tool, but it'd probably take me as long to write and debug the regex as it'd take to manually mod the URLs lol.
