Why OBIEE on EBS?

Hi,
I'm looking for some good reasons why a company would deploy OBIEE over the top of EBS without the BI Apps (the customer is just using the Oracle Leasing Management area). The customer has a site license for BO but would have to buy OBIEE. I know you can leverage the security in EBS in OBIEE quite easily which is a good thing, and of course the Common Enterprise Information Model. Because it is EBS they have Oracle Database underneath, but I'm wondering what other great technical stuff has Oracle done to build the case for OBIEE on EBS (or even if it is just becasue it is on Oracle Database)...btw optermised SQL is good, but is there anything better?

BI Apps give you an out of the box datawarehouse sourcing from which ever components you choose (ebiz, Siebel CRM, Peoplsoft etc), if a company has the skills in-house to extract, transform and model this data then should they pay for it (again) unless they want it done quickly (< c.6 weeks).
If said company has a lot of OWB or ODI experience, why should they invest again in Informatica as the ETL tool ?
If said company already has a corporate datawarehouse, and the one module you mention is a tiny part of the jigsaw, why should they break the mould and get something new, even if it fits the Enterprise model (unlikely without some re-work) they will have a bigger picture that BI Apps cannot fill.
Each to there own but BI Apps offers good value for money.

How to intergrate OBIEE with EBS

Hello all,
How can i integrate OBIEE with EBS?
I want to run a concurrent program in EBS which generates .xml file and i want to use this .xml file in OBIEE and generate .pdf file.
So is there any way that i can automate this process.

Integrating OBIEE with EBS -   not logged in to the Oracle BI Server

I have followed Metalink Note 552735.1 to integrate OBIEE with EBS R12. In addition I followed the forum threads such as
OBIA 7.9.5 EBS Integration Not Logged On nQSError 43001 Authentication Fail
on additional steps.
After launching the url from EBS, I get the following error message:
Not Logged In
You are not currently logged in to the Oracle BI Server.
If you have already logged in, your connection might have timed out, or a communications or server error may have occurred.
My saw0log.log file is showing the following message. My BI Server is up and I'm not sure where I need to change the localhost in my config files.

We resolved the localhost issue but still receive the not logged in to the Oracle BI Server message.

Firstly, I am trying to make integration between EBS and OBIEE 11G.
When I press to the link that directs me to OBIEE 11G it says ;
You are not currently signed in to the Oracle BI Server.
If you have already signed in, your connection might have timed out, or a communications or server error may have occurred.

What do you think I am doing wrong?

Why OBIEE always joins all dimensions to the fact?

We have a fact table, which joins 10 dimensions. I have a report that gets data from the fact and only one dimension. However, when i see the physical sql, i see that OBIEE joins all dimensions to the fact, even if I am not selecting any information fro the dimension. Is there any setting to avoid this? eg Fact1, dim1, dim2, dim3. The report has data from fact1 and dim1, but the actual sql joins fact1 with dim1, dim2 and dim3 even if I am not selecting any information from dim2 and dim3 in the report

We do use star model at physical and logical layer. I wonder what change I need to make to avoid this. The fact should not always join all dimensions.

Unable to integrate OBIEE And EBS R12

I am pretty new to this tool am trying to integrate R12 and obiee my issue is,My production instance is in UNIX and my devlopment has been done on windows system,So on windows i created a RPD with a connection pool using ODBC connection and now it fails on UNIX.
Can someone tell me how to solve this issue,will i have to create a ODBC equivalent in unix or use a OCI connection,Which is the best option

Let me be more clear on this my development environment is windows so I have installed instantclient-basic- win32 -11.1.0.7.0 pkg on windows,my production is on Unix,So i create all my rpd in windows and I migrate it to my unix box.
Issue 1)
Right now my rpd that is created in windows with a connection pool using a ODBC connection.And I migrate this rpd to my unix box it fails,as there is no ODBC connection created in unix,So how will I create a ODBC connection in my unix box.
Issue 2)
By using OCI for my connection pool instead of OBDC will be useful? If so I am not able to use OCI connection on windows,The steps that I have mentioned on my last response has been done on my windows system.

Error while integrating OBIEE report with EBS using Rich Content Container

I am trying to integrate OBIEE report with EBS using Rich Content Container OAF functionality. I have followed the steps mentioned in oracle Note - Embedding Analytics in Oracle E-Business Suite [ID 974422.1]. When i run my page, the container region comes up with the error message - The requested URL /pls/ghrfpkd2/OracleSSWA.Execute was not found on this server. Can someone please help me with some documents on the steps to integrate OBIEE with EBS using Rich Content Container.

I'm getting the same error on WebSphere 6.1.5. Is there any solution for this?

OBIEE/EBS R12 - works, except for one user - ORA-06512 error

We are successfully using EBS integration with OBIEE, but for one user that we have created it doesn't work. When they try to access OBIEE from EBS we get this error in NQServer.log:

Has anyone else seen this problem?
Our EBS DBA has checked that the above sql can be run with the session set to the problem user, and compared with a user who can successfully connect to OBIEE. The results were the same for both.

I was on the wrong lines with this one.
The error in the NQServer.log was not from the problem user, it was a separate user.
The real cause of a specific user not being able to login was a corrupt web catalog (which we're still trying to resolve)

Unable to pass parameter to EBS Form from external system (OBIEE)

I set up the OBIEE to EBS Navigation as per a metalink note to the form PA_PAXTRAPE_SINGLE_PROJECT. I tried to pass a PROJECT_ID parameter. The form opens up but I do not see any indication of the parameter being passed through.
In general, when you pass a parameter to a EBS form from an external system, is it suppose to open the FORM with that specific value? In this case should it open up the Project for the PROJECT_NUMBER that I passed through?
Any way for me to diagnose the issue?

Rather than giving the name of the Block and Field name there create a parameter in the form itself and pass value to that parameter. You can use this values using :PARAMETER.<field_name>.

OBIEE Security - How to setup SSO-integrated EBS users & mobile access?

I'm looking for the best approach to solution my company's OBIEE Security requirements, they are:
1) Create a standard authentication/security process at an enterprise level
2) Maintain EBS Roles to provide object-level and data-level security in OBIEE
3) EBS Users must go through the EBS portal to get to OBIEE (ie. single signon integration)
4) non-EBS users must go through the OBIEE portal
5) Both EBS and non-EBS users need ability to use the OBIEE iPad mobile application
So for the EBS users, I've implemented the SSO integration between OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 and EBS R11 based on the Oracle white paper [ID 1343143.1]. I've also set up an Authorization session init block to read the user's EBS Roles and set up object/data level security.
For the non-EBS users, I've kept the default identity store (WLS-LDAP) and authentication provider.
My question is what's the best approach for providing mobile access to the EBS users? Obviously I can't pass an HTML cookie to the iPad for these guys. Assuming these EBS users are in an corporate-LDAP store, I was thinking to setup a dual authentication store that connects to both corporate-ldap(EBS) and the WLS-integrated LDAP(non-EBS).
Will this work? Does anyone have a better approach they'd like to share?

We have a customer, who has upgraded to EBS R12 recently. With EBS R12 there comes a responsibility that enables users to directly open embedded BI in EBS. When people do LDAP authentication to EBS, they can directly open the OBIEE inside the EBS. But, when the EBS is SSO (OAM+WNA) integrated, OBIEE SSO in EBS does not work. What is the error?
It could be related that OAM generated cookies are not recognized by embedded OBIEE.
Is there a way to do a setup with both OAM SSO enabled to EBS, and EBS-OBIEE SSO is enabled inside EBS ? I do not think there is a single document that covers all the above (I believe you are aware of the individual docs).

Why Rowwids are getting generated in OBIEE physical generatedquery

Why OBIEE physical generated query ( backend query ) is added his own conditions ( something like below ) other than specified in RPD in where clause while generation backend queries.
Also, in my case in environment where clause is adding his own conditions like below and in another environment it is not... why???

I checked in both environments already, there is no conditions under Content tab where clause.
Not only in this backend query, i thought BI server will automatically generate this where conditions in all physical generated queries. but it will not differ in Results.
In this cast results also differ. Could you please let me why OBIEE generates this addtional where conditions.
Do I need to check any join conditions in rpd??

Essbase - OBIEE connectivity

I am trying to establish a connectivity between Essbase(11.1.1.1.0.112) and OBIEE (10.1.3.3.2) to generate reports.
I have
- Created a simple cube in essbase with 3 Dimensions (Year, Market, Products) and with some measures and loaded the data.
- Imported the outlline into OBIEE Physical layer, then to BMM and presentation layer (Just drag and drop)
- Generated a report in answers using the lowest level attributes (Leaf members of the Dimension hierarchies)
i.e. using (Month, City and television)
The problem is:
- When I am using a higher level attribute to create the report(Using Quarter, City and Television), it is not pulling out any data. My requirement is to pull out the aggregated data in the various quarters.
The basic aggregations rules are defined in the essbase outline. So I would like to know why OBIEE answers is not generating an aggregated report when I am selecting a higher level attribute from the dimension hierarchies.

You can write a calc script that has one line "CALC ALL ;" or you can run the default calc. In case you're not familiar with how to do this, right click on the database in EAS, select the Execute calculation pick from the pop up menu, and then select (default). 99% of the time the default calc is to be avoided, or even actively set to essentially null, but in your case it should be sufficient.

Calling a BI Publisher Report in EBS 11.5.10.2

I have created a custom BI Publisher report in OBIEE 10.1.3.4. This was developed on my desktop. Now i want to implement this report in EBS 11.5.10.2 application. What are my options. Also I think i need to install an OBIEE Server in an environment that EBS can access, right? Appreciate your inputs as I am working on a customer PoC.

I do not believe you will ever be adding in OBIEE to EBS. You can create the report template outside of EBS and then publish it within EBS (assuming the format is valid, etc.).
Yes the Custom Report is Built with a Custom RTF Template. Now how do I get to this BIP report to be called from EBS

OBIEE: Incorrect SQL - with count function uses ORDER BY instead GROUP BY

I made a basic report that is a client count; I want to know how many clients the company have.
But, when I run this report, OBIEE generates a ORDER BY sentence, instead a GROUP BY. Remember that I'm using count function, that is a agregation.
The SQL generated was:

Do you know why OBIEE generates this SQL??? Why uses, with a aggregation function, a ORDER BY and not a GROUP BY? How can I resolve this problem???

Verify your repository design and make sure that you have defined count aggregate on fact column. You would also need to define the content level of each dimension in fact table.
