Wikis Webclip icon

I use a profilemanager to create a Webclip of my Wikis, changes the icon according the my needs. When the profile pushed to ipads, the icon is fine. But after i entered the webclip to see the web, then it changes to Wikis icon. I want to know why and how to make it permanently change.
I tried to use " full screen", but i cannot download the file in my wikis ( icon changes permanently)
Plz help

You add the favicon code in the HEAD of the webpage.
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/YourdotMacID/apple-touch-icon.png" />
You'll have to open the page with a HTML editor of your choice.
You can use TextEdit.

  • Here's how to use your own custom Webclip icons for the sites you visit.

This method is pretty much 95% taken from this URL: http://allinthehead.com/retro/319/how-to-set-an-apple-touch-icon-for-any-site , so credit where credit is due. The instructions are a bit hard to understand though, so I'll try to make it easier for everyone.
Fortunately, this works for both Macs and PCs.
    INSTRUCTIONS:
    Requirements:
    - iPhone on 1.1.3 and any version of iTunes that can sync to iPhone
    - Adobe Photoshop or any other image editing program that can crop, alter image size, and save .png image files. (Recommended 24-bit .pngs as they are higher quality)
    - Apple Safari ( http://www.apple.com/safari/, and yes, you need it.)
    - A website or ftp where you can upload images and directly link to them, like Google Pages.
    Warning:
    - This requires you to sync your Safari bookmarks to your iPhone. You will probably lose all of your iPhone's bookmarks if you don't already sync your Safari bookmarks with your iPhone. Only proceed if you do not mind losing your iPhone's current bookmarks and do not mind re-entering them after the bookmark sync. NOTE: The bookmark sync DOES NOT get rid of your current Webclips though, so don't worry about those.
    Easy Steps:
    1) First, make sure that you are following these instructions in the Apple Safari web browser.
    2) Find an image you wish to make into a Webclip icon. (ex: I prefer to use movies.yahoo.com to look at movie showtimes, so I found an image of a movie reel from Google Image Search and decided to use that.)
    3) Open the image with your preferred image editor and crop your desired image into a perfect square. Resize that picture down to 57x57 pixels. Save as a 24-bit .png file. Upload the icon to your webpage or ftp. (ex: I ended up with this icon of a movie reel: http://ctolpin.googlepages.com/appleicon01.png )
    4) Select and copy the javascript code in this .txt file: http://ctolpin.googlepages.com/webclipcode.txt
    5) Go to Bookmarks and select "Add Bookmark..."
    6) Type in "Webclip Icon URL"
    7) Go to Bookmarks again and select "Show all Bookmarks."
    8) Right-click your new "Webclip Icon URL" bookmark and select "Edit Address"
    9) Paste your clipboard's contents into the field.
    10) Plug your iPhone into the computer if it's not connected already.
    11) In iTunes, select your iPhone from the right column. Select the Info tab. Scroll down to "Web Browser" and check "Sync bookmarks with: Safari" (obviously, make sure Safari is selected from the dropdown menu).
    12) Once your iPhone is synced, use your iPhone to navigate to your intended website target to make into a Webclip. Remember that Webclips save where you zoom in as well! (ex: For me, it was movies.yahoo.com and then entering in my zip code.)
    13) Once you've loaded your target website, open up the bookmarks in iPhone's Safari, select Bookmarks Bar, then select Webclip Icon URL.
    14) Type in the address of your uploaded icon. (ex: In my case, it is http://ctolpin.googlepages.com/appleicon01.png)
    15) iPhone's Safari will seem like it didn't do anything. However, add that webpage now to your home screen as a Webclip. Magic.
    Additional note:
It is easiest to make a bunch of icons at first and to upload them. However, once that "Webclip Icon URL" bookmark is in your iPhone, there is no need to go back and do any of the computer Safari steps again
My front page icons in order (Sorry Stocks, it's the second page for you!):
    Google, Wikipedia, Definr, Showtimes

3 Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.G
Your display obviously is not like mine as mine does not dosplay the port associated with the ip address
whatever, the STB's start at 192.168.1.100 and icement by 1 for each
the port addr's will be 63145 alo incrementing by 1
there is 1 entry for each in my pf list
however each ip addr also has a port entry starting at 35000 also incrementing by 1 for each ip addr
For some unknow reason these are duplicated e.g I appear to have 11 entries exaactly the same for each stb and as the fios services rules have no action switc there is nowhere to delete the extraneous garbage.
Why do you clone the mac addr??

Is there anyway to incorporate a favicon and a webclip icon (for iPhones) using iWeb '08?

  • Iphone Webclips Icon Problem (One works, one does not)

I have two websites with two different hosts. One is Teamkong.net and the webclip I created works fine. The other one is d2football.com and the webclip does not work. I did them the same, put them in the same place and one works and the other one does not. Has to be a server setting or something, right? Suggestions are appreciated.
Here is the instructions I followed do the process:
    http://vjarmy.com/archives/2008/01/h...clip_icons.php

that link doesn't work, so cannot really tell you.
But can say this you should have a reference to it in page and not rely on it just finding it by name as icons such as it and favicons for browsers, rely on finding them at the root...and your provider may be giving you a URL that makes it look like you are at your own root, but in reality you are on a shared server with other sites all subsites off a real root thus cannot be found.
So add a reference to it to your pages like this
    <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/traffic.png"/>
Add that to your head section and replace the name of the file.
Can see it working at one of my simple webapps for traffic cameras where I live at http://vcreations.net/traffic/
Doing it at the page level also allows you to control a bit more each page if you want.

  • Disable the Wiki Preview icon.

I'm looking for a way to disable the Preview icon on the default wiki server.  I'm running into an issue where some of the video we're uploading to share internally is very large format, and as a result when a user chooses to preview the video on the site, opposed to downloading it to view, the preview screen is larger than the typical display.  I suspect the orginal video was shot and edited as 720p or higher, and thus the sizing issue.
Is there simply a way to disable the Preview icon, the eyball, so users are required to download the files opposed to just looking at the quicklook-like preview?

Well, I must by now reply to all of you.
First, "urami" made a good point when referring to kiosk
interfaces. It makes sense to have no roll over in this case and I
    fully agree with this statement.
But in the case of the interfaces we commonly create in Flash
we need the finger icon to indicate that there is a photo-button or
a drawing-button or a clickable text here and, if we want to "hide"
it or if we do not want the user click it, we can with simple
functions (related to _x and _y mouse position) disable or enable
depending the circumstances the hot spot when the pointer rolls
    over it.
The quoted remark of "DMennenoh" is not relevant.
Why? Simply because in the OS all buttons are clearly
designed as... buttons! There is no need to change the pointer icon
as we perfectly know what we are going to do and where we must move
the pointer to do the action: Open, Save, etc. And it is not only
the case for buttons, it's also the case for the menu bar...
In the interfaces we design, it is not always the case.
In all my interfaces, I always have in mind these:
How shall I react if I see this interface for the first time?
What can I do and where?
I suppose you'll agree with me if I say that some interfaces
are so bad that it is very helpful to have the finger icon just to
indicate that the area under the pointer is clearly a hot spot...
I think this discussion is far from ending...

  • IPhone WebClip Icon not staying to what I set it

So I am using the iPhone Configuration Utility to set up a profile that I would like to setup on a bunch of phones at my company.  One thing I am trying to do is to create a Web Clip that goes to my company's help desk website.   I'm able to create everything and load the profile onto my iPhone.  The icon shows up correctly and goes to the correct page. But when I return the homescreen the icon changes,  it goes to some image that is stored somewhere on the site I'm going to.   I've attached pictures using google.com as an example of what is happening.
First picture here is when I first load profile onto the phone,  the "HelpDesk" icon is showing up correctly
But I then click it to the the page (in this case google.com), it goes to google, but then I go back to the home screen and the icon changes to the google icon.  Same thing happens when doing it to other sites too.  Is there anyway to get it to keep my icon? Or am I just not doing something?
(sorry if the pictures are large, doesn't seem to want to let me resize them very well on here)

Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data

  • IPhone Home screen icons

When I create a home screen icon most of them place a custom icon on the home screen, usually with the websites logo. But a few of them just place an icon with a shot of the whole page.
Is there a way to request or create a custom home icon from a site?
In particular I'm looking for one for the Royal bank of Canada website at either:
    www.royalbank.com
    or
    www.rbc.com

The website your are visiting must have a webclip icon stored on their server... You can try contacting them to see if they will add one... Here is what they need to do:
To specify a bookmark icon for all pages of a web site, place a PNG image named "apple-touch-icon.png" at the root directory of your web server - similar to the "favicon.ico" for site icons.
To override the site bookmark icon on a specific web page, insert a <link> element similar to <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/customIcon.png"/> within the <head> element of the page.
The bookmark icon dimensions should be 57x57 pixels. If the icon is a different size it will be scaled and cropped to fit.

  • Webclips not working now

Not sure what I did, but not my webclips won't work at all now. I can't even make new ones as I'll hit the webclip icon in Safari and it goes to make the webclip, but when it puts it in dashboard, nothing is there.
When I click the little + button in the lower left corner to open up the add-widget bar across the bottom of the screen, then I notice a little "X" button in the middle of the screen where I'm presuming the Webclip widget is....but it's got nothing attached to it at all.
What am I doing wrong...is anyone else having this problem?

    Hi all,
In terms of webclips, I have solved mine working by the link provided at the end of this thread as well by setting Safari as the default browser. However, I have never used any stylesheet in Safari yet my webclips seem to inconsistently refresh. I have read that if you click once on a webclip and hit command + R, it will refresh. I try this all of the time and my webclips never refresh. Nothing seems to happen. I have read that some people say that you should see an animation at the time of refresh but this doesn't happen on my machine. Other times I will activate the dashboard and the clips never refresh. Arrrrggggh!

  • Editing App Icons

Does anyone know of a way to add an icon to a web link or news story that's been added to the home screen on a 3G? For example, my bank just made mobile banking available via a third-party website, but when I added the site's URL to the home screen on my iPhone, it isn't distinctive enough to find easily (it's actually a tiny image of their login screen). I'd like to be able to replace that image with the bank's logo, for example, if that's possible. This would be for my private use only; no intent to "spread the wealth" or infringe on copyrights.

I don't know whether this tip still works:
    http://pixelspread.com/blog/321/override-webclip-icons
You need some webspace to host the icon and script.

  • Google Earth glitches

After a long time not using it I installed Google Earth 5. What is strange is that the maps render OK, speed is acceptable, but the fonts in some menu entries get garbled up, as well as the text that appears in the map (like e.g. city names, map data etc). Characters are missing or distorted. The same happens with text that appears when hovering over an icon that indicates pictures or wiki entries.
It looks like an overlay proble, but I am not sure how to fix it.
I run it under KDE4 on an HP laptop with Intel 945 GM chip. Have already tried disabling Kwin effects, changing fonts in Google Earth and changed some settings in xorg.cong (AccelMethod EXA) but no difference.
Starting in a terminal gives no errors either. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem (GE5.0, KDE4.3, Dell Inspiron 6400 with Intel 945GM).  I believe it started when the X system video driver "i810" was replaced with the new "intel" driver, during the upgrade of kernel 2.6.27-2 -> 2.6.27.10 (I'm now using 2.6.28).
There appear to be two categories of fonts in the text overlays: a slightly larger font used for placemarks, labels of picture and wiki entry icons and for the text at the bottom of the screen, and a smaller font that's used for street names.  Often now, one of these two font categories is intact, i.e. all the letters are there, but many of them are missing in the other, and then again, after I clear the cache or change a font or do some other things, the situation is reversed.  As for numbers, all of them but the numbers 8 and 9 are always missing, and I can't read the calibration on the distance ruler nor the elevation or the geographical location.  The most usable 3D font I've found is Helvetica Bold 12; others are even worse, in terms of legibility.  But with all of them, there is always something missing.
This is not a problem with GE but rather with font rendering in Linux that is probably specific to the new "intel" video driver.  I.e. when I replace the "intel" video driver with the "vesa" driver (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf), i.e. run GE in OpenGL with software emulation, then all the text in the overlays is there, but GE runs very slowly.  I can't use the older "i810" driver either because that one was removed during the upgrade to the "intel" driver with kernel 2.6.27.10.  It's not compatible anymore with the newer kernel: the "i810" driver would crash the system and X windows would never start up.
This problem is extremely annoying, and it seems to be fairly widespread with GE for Linux but nobody seems to have come up with a solution.
Some pertinent (?) entries from my xorg.conf:

  • Need dashcode to access an rss feed from another server

my client uses a blog set up by a professional organization he belongs to, and he wants me to create a web app that opens the blog on his iphone - trouble is dashcode specifically says I have to install the app on the same server that the rss feed is located. I can't do this as this server offers only blogs.
    Are there any workarounds?
    thanks

  • Safari Buttons Missing?

I am used to using Safari on my Mac, and now recently got an iPhone, but having trouble using Safari.
I cannot find certain buttons that are on the browser, such as a HOME button to take me to my home page, a RELOAD button, a STOP buton to stop a page loading.
Also, when I do open Safari, it opens to whatever website I last had loaded. How do I get it to open to my homepage all the time?
    Thanks

As already provided, Safari on the iPhone does not include a home page selection and home button.
In addition to creating a bookmark for your homepage, you can create a webclip for the URL for your chosen home page which will be placed on your iPhone's home screen as an icon.
With the website loaded that you want for your home page, at the bottom select the + icon. Options are; Add Bookmark, Add to Home Screen, Mail Link to this Page, Cancel.
    Select Add to Home Screen.
Enter a name for your home page in the space provided and select Add.
When you want to go to your home page with Safari, select the webclip icon for your home page on your iPhone's Home screen.

  • Contact button on main screen

Is there a way to put a contacts button on my main/home screen ? The only way I can reach it is if I go into the phone call feature.

Not really, but there is a web app that helps put a contacts single number to a single quick dial icon.
    http://www.springlets.com
If you visit from computer you will only see it's advertising talking about it. If you visit from iPhone you will get options of making a WebClip icon onto your main screen for any number you enter.
When used it does launch Safari (since WebClips are just web shortcuts). But the URL it goes to is what is known as a "data" URL. The code for the page is all in the URL so it doesn't have to go anywhere to load anypage or anything. Sort of like putting javascript into a URL.
So when it loads it pops up to dial the number.

  • Wiki icons broken after last upgrade?

Has anyone noticed that the wiki icons after the last update 10.7.2 are broken?
I just did a remote upgrade and noticed the links are now broken on the wiki pages..  I'll troubleshoot it from an apache perspective later tonight, but I was just curious as to if anyone else has run into this anomaly..

So after getting home from a business trip yesterday, I decided to look into this..   I found that screen sharing was also not working.
I rebooted the server and screen sharing started working again, as well as the icons are now also being displayed properly in the wiki's.  I wanted to get screen sharing working first as the server is in the basement, and I'd rather sit at my desk to troubleshoot   (Simply restarting screen sharing did not fix that problem)
If it happens again, I'll troubleshoot before rebooting.
