Wildcards in "IF" expressions

I want to make an IF expression that is based on whether an adjacent cell contains a certain text string "No School".  That text string could be part of a larger string, or might be by itself, so I can't use a simple "=".  I'm thinking it will involve wildcards, but I'm not versed on using wildcards.

So, here's exactly what I'm trying to do.
Column A: is a series of schooldays derived from a formula based on the a date manually entered at the top of the column.
Column B: is a Lookup that only returns a result if the date in column a matches any date in a column on another worksheet.  The "Labor Day - No School" is on the same sheet in a different column, and corresponds to the date in Column "A" on this sheet.
Column C: is the number of the day in this school term (1-90).  There's the rub.  The numbers in Column C Skip Holidays.  What I originally had was a simple "previous cell +1" formula, but that meant for every version of this sheet, I had to manually skip holidays.  That's not what computers are for.
So, what I want to do is create a simple =IF(B1="*No School*","",don't skip this cell)
This seems like it should be really easy, but it's driving me nuts.

  • Find and Replace using Wildcards

    I am following the procedure outlined in Trent’s Blog:
    http://www.trentmueller.com/blog/search-and-replace-wildcard-characters-in-dreamweaver.htm l
    This is fantastic stuff and will really help me.
    I have a few (but only a few) times had success.
    It says to “Use regular expression.”  What does that mean?  What is an “irregular expression?”  I have tried with the box checked and unchecked.  Usually with the box checked it will not Find my string.  I uncheck the box and it sometimes does.
    Example:
    Link to    www.schembs.com/TEST_jds_1.html
    At the moment all the Cases are identical.  I have not uploaded the .css to the site so the right-most formating is not properly displaying.  It does work when the .css is available.
    In the source code I literally copy the line of code:
    <p class="type_X"><u>Joh. Heinrich Sch&ouml;m (1713-1785) <span  class="right-most">1.</span></u></p>
    and paste it into the Find box of F&R.  I then put my cursor above the line and it does not Find it, giving me the “Done.  Not found in current document.” response.  I uncheck the “Use regular expression” box and it will find it.
    THEN,
    I try using a wildcard (with the box checked), Finding:
    <p class="type_X">([^<]*)< p>
    or
    <p class="type_X">[^”]*< p>
    and it will find the misc. lines, e.g. where the text is “Case #1”, but not the lines of interest, with Heinrich’s name.  With the box unchecked it Finds nothing.
    Really would appreciate help.  Thanks.

    A regular expression is a pattern for matching text. It uses a combination of literal characters and special symbols or sequences of characters (technically called metacharacters or metasequences) to represent such things as the beginning and end of a line or any alphanumeric character. For example, \d represents any number (single digit), \d* represents zero or more numbers in sequence.
    I have written a tutorial series on using regular expressions in Dreamweaver here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/regular_expressions_pt1.html.
    I try using a wildcard (with the box checked), Finding:
    <p class="type_X">([^<]*)< p>
    or
    <p class="type_X">[^”]*< p>
    They're not wildcards, but regular expressions. The first part matches the literal characters <p class="type_X">. The next sections use metacharacters.
    ([^<]*) matches zero or more characters (and as many as possible) that don't include an opening angle bracket (<). The parentheses "capture" the value that's matched so it can be used in a replace sequence.
    [^"]* matches zero or more characters (and as many as possible) that don't include a double quote. There are no parentheses, so the value is not captured for reuse.
    The closing <p> matches those literal characters.
    Regular expressions are not easy, but they're extremely powerful, and a good skill to acquire.

  • Report Builder Actions Expression

    I'm trying to link the returned values in one report to another but need to add a wildcard to the expression.  I've tried a bunch of options but so far it just keeps displaying errors.
    My thoughts would be something like =Fields!Site_Code.Value Like Site_Code% but so far no luck.
    If I leave it at the default (=Fields!Site_Code.Value) it does bring up the report, but returns no data because the code I'm passing is the first two characters of a computer name.
    Can this be done?

    Try:
    =Fields!Site_Code.Value+"*"
    But you'll need to compare it to the other value, rather than itself.

  • How do I best implement a comparable parameterized class?

    I am trying to implement a parameterized Wrapper class that I want to make Comparable, and the ordering is supposed to
    be consistent with equals(). How can this be done? I'm kind of lost ...
    My first approach looked like this:
    class Wrapper<T> implements Comparable<Wrapper<T>> {
      private T theObject;
      public Wrapper(T arg) { theObject = arg; }
      public boolean equals(Object other) {
        if (this == other) return true;
        if (other == null) return false;
        if (getClass() != other.getClass()) return false;
        ... comparison of theObject based on T.equals() ...
      public int hashCode() { ... }
      public int compareTo(Wrapper<T> other) {
        if (this == other) return 0;
        if (other == null) throw new NullPointerException();
        ... comparison of theObject based on T.compareTo() ...
    }This does not work, because I cannot invoke T.compareTo(), since T's bound it Object. Okay, it makes sense to perform
    comparison only against wrappers around something that is comparable to T. Next try:
    class Wrapper<T> implements Comparable<Wrapper<? extends Comparable<T>>> {
      public int compareTo(Wrapper<? extends Comparable<T>> other) {
        if (this == other) return 0;
        if (other == null) throw new NullPointerException();
        ... comparison of theObject based on T.compareTo() ...
    }Now it compiles and I can compare a Wrapper<Integer> to a Wrapper<Integer>. But I cannot compare a Wrapper<Number> to
    a Wrapper<Integer>, although the Wrapper<Number> may well contain a reference to an Integer object that is
    comparable to the Integer in the other wrapper and the comparison is meaningful in such a case. Simply for reasons
    of consistency with equals() I want to compare Wrapper<Integer> and Wrapper<Number>, but with the implementation above
    I can't:
              Wrapper<Integer> p0 = new Wrapper<Integer>(10000);
              Wrapper<Number> p2 = new  Wrapper<Number>(10000);
              boolean equ = false;
              equ = p0.equals(p2);
              equ = p2.equals(p0);
              int less = 0;
              less = p0.compareTo(p2);
              less = p2.compareTo(p0);The error messages say:
    compareTo(Wrapper<? extends Comparable<Integer>>) in Wrapper<Integer> cannot be applied to (Wrapper<Number>)
              result = p0.compareTo(p2);
                               ^
    compareTo(Wrapper<? extends Comparable<Number>>) in Wrapper<Number> cannot be applied to (Wrapper<Integer>)
              result = p2.compareTo(p0);
                               ^Okay, a Wrapper<Number> is not comparable to a Wrapper<Integer>. Obviously, the wildcard "? extends Comparable<T>" is
    too restrictive. So I tried "? extends Comparable<?>", but then I cannot invoke T.compareTo(). Hence I use the raw
    type Comparable:
    class Wrapper<T> implements Comparable<Wrapper<? extends Comparable>> {
      public int compareTo(Wrapper<? extends Comparable> other) {
        if (this == other) return 0;
        if (other == null) throw new NullPointerException();
        ... comparison of theObject based on T.compareTo() ...
    }Now, it is asymmetric; I can pass Wrapper<Integer> to Wrapper<Number>.compareTo(Wrapper<? extends Comparable>), but I
    cannot pass Wrapper<Number> to Wrapper<Integer>.compareTo(Wrapper<? extends Comparable>). I see, Number is simply not
    comparable to anything.
    Is there a way to express that a Wrapper<T> shall be comparable to another Wrapper<U> where U is comparable to T or is
    a supertype of something that is comparable to T? The wildcard Wrapper<? super Comparable<T>> isn't what I'm looking
    for; it requires that Comparable<Integer> would be a subtype of Number, which it is not.
    Eventually the best implementation I can come up with is this one:
    class Wrapper<T> implements Comparable<Wrapper> {
      public int compareTo(Wrapper other) {
        if (this == other) return 0;
        if (other == null) throw new NullPointerException();
        ... comparison of theObject based on T.compareTo() plus a cast to Comparable<T> ...
    }As soon as I try to be more specific and require that the wrapped object must be somehow comparable I cannot get
    access to a comparable object through a non-comparable supertype any longer. I had somehow hoped that wildcards would
    help expressing things like this, but that's a misconception, right?
    Or does anybody have an idea how to express my intent in terms of wildcards or any other Java feature?

    Have you tried the following declaration:
    class Wrapper<T extends Comparable<T>> implements Comparable<Wrapper<T>> This should pass the restriction imposed on T upwards
    to the super-interface.
    Maybe that works as you expected?It's more restricted than I want because then all my wrappers would be wrappers around a comparable object and I cannot have a Wrapper<Number> any longer. Perhaps that's what I will resort to: a Wrapper, a ComparableWrapper, a CloneableWrapper, ...
    >
    BTW, what is this declaration of yours supposed to
    mean:
    class Wrapper<T> implements Comparable<Wrapper<? extends Comparable<T>>>
    I think it is a wrapper that is comparable to another wrapper and that other wrapper contains an object that is comparable to T. It does not have to be a T, it suffices that it is comparable to T.
    My gut feeling says that the use of wildcards in the
    supertype of a derived class declaration should not be
    legal, since it would render the supertype of
    Wrapper<T> into a "family" of supertypes. Doesn't make
    any sense to me, but if the compiler swallows it, then
    it's probably just my limited understanding...The use of the wildcard in not in the supertype; it is in the type argument of the type argument of the supertype. A declaration such as ... implements Comparable<? extends Wrapper<T>> would be illegal, as far as I understand wildcards.

  • Ironport - Specific URL redirect without catching all domain traffic

    Hi we have a set up using Cisco Ironport S370 running Async OS 7.5
    We would like to redirect users requests for some very specific top level domains such as www.bbc.co.uk
    however we do not want to redirect urls such as www.bbc.co.uk/news
    Is this possible? using our current set up?  at present everything we have tried catches all traffic under the main domain so that www.bbc.co.uk/news or www.bbc.co.uk/sport are also being redirected.
    Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.
    Paul

    Hi Chris thanks for responding much appreciated.
    I am working on this project a little third hand and so can not test directly here.
    For the first custom category would it be possible to use a wildcard in the expression without this wiping out the 2nd custom category?
    I dont think it would be workable if we had to maintain a list of all the urls used by the sites we want to perform this on.
    So the first category would be allow
    www\.bbc\.co\.uk/*
    and the second custom category would be redirect
    www\.bbc\.co\.uk
    Thanks and regards,
    Paul

  • Regular Expressions/Wildcards in IronPort ESA Recipient Accept Table

    Is it possible to define Recipient Accept Table entries using Regular Expressions or wildcards ?
    For example, given a very large email address space in the format [email protected], where x ∈ [0..9], for which one needs to bypass LDAP Accept, could RAT entries be added like: abc-1[0-9]{9}@domain.com or at least abc-1*@domain.com or it's just literals ?
    Thanks. :)

    No.  It will not read the entry as a regex for the RAT.
    The following formats are allowed:
    Hostnames such as "example.com", "[1.2.3.4]", "[2001:420:80:1::5]"
    Partial hostnames such as ".example.com"
    Usernames such as "postmaster@"
    Full email addresses such as "[email protected]", "joe@[1.2.3.4]" or "joe@[ipv6:2001:420:80:1::5]"
    Separate multiple addresses with commas.

  • Importing Wildcard Cert into Messaging Server and Comms Express???

    Hi all, does anyone know how I can import a wildcard certificate, private key, & CA cert into Messaging Server 6.3 and Comms Express 6.3?

    1) A wildcard cert from DigiCert
    2) The DigiCert CA cert
    3) The private key

    Hi, we are upgrading from iMS5.2 to SJMS6.3 later this year but in the mean time i'm trying to work out how to import the wildcard certs, key, etc from DigiCert into our current iMS5.2. I've heard it can be done.
    We're currently using a cert from Verisign in our iMS5.2 environment.

    I've got some processing working using regular expression where I need to process words e.g.
    regexp_replace('word1 word2','(\w+)','myprefix{\1}') - results in - 'myprefixword1 myprefixword2'
    However, if I'm presented with this; '%word0 word1% wo%d2 word3', then I need to treat % as special case and leave the word as is, so result here would be; - '%word0 word1% wo%d2 myprefixword3', is this achievable using regexp ?

    And for those who don't know, I guess we should explain why we're having to expand single spaces to double spaces...
    (I'll use the "¬" character to represent spaces to make it clearer to see)
    If we have a string such as
    word1¬word2¬word3and we want to identify the words in the string (without using any special regexp word identifier) then we are going to use the spaces to identify the start and end of words. To make life easy, we manually put a space at the start and end of the string so we can say that each word in the string will have a space before and after it regardless of where it is in the string...
    ¬word1¬word2¬word3¬However, when we specify what we want to search for we are going to say we want a space, followed by a number of characters (not spaces), followed by a space...
    ¬[^¬]*¬So, ideally, you'd expect it to look through the string and say
    ¬word1¬word2¬word3¬
    \_____/... found word1
    ¬word1¬word2¬word3¬
          \_____/... found word2
    ¬word1¬word2¬word3¬
                \_____/... found word3
    Unfortunately, there is a problem. Once the first word has been found the pointer for searching the rest of the string is located on the next character after the match i.e.
    ¬word1¬word2¬word3¬
           ^So it won't be able to pick out word2 and will only get to word3. Let's see it in action...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  with t as (select ' word1 word2 word3 ' as txt from dual)
      2  --
      3  select regexp_replace(txt, ' [^ ]* ', 'xxxxx') as txt
      4* from t
    SQL> /
    TXT
    xxxxxword2xxxxx
    SQL>In order to deal with this, if we replace the single spaces with double spaces (not required at the start and end) our string looks like...
    ¬word1¬¬word2¬¬word3¬So as it searches it finds word1 as a match and then the pointer in the string is located...
    ¬word1¬¬word2¬¬word3¬
           ^... so the next match for the pattern of space-characters-space is word2 and then the pointer is located...
    ¬word1¬¬word2¬¬word3¬
                  ^... ready to find word 3. Example...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  with t as (select ' word1  word2  word3 ' as txt from dual)
      2  --
      3  select regexp_replace(txt, ' [^ ]* ', 'xxxxx') as txt
      4* from t
    SQL> /
    TXT
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    SQL>Hopefully that's a little clearer. You just have to remember the "pointer" principle and the fact that once a match is found it is located on the character after the match.

  • Regular Expression Find and Replace with Wildcards

    Hi!
    For the world of me, I can't figure out the right way to do this.
    I basically have a list of last names, first names. I want the last name to have a different css style than the first name.
    So this is what I have now:
    <b>AAGAARD, TODD, S.</b><br>
    <b>AAMOT, KARI,</b> <br>
    <b>AARON, MARJORIE, C. </b> <br>
    and this is what I need to have:
    <span class="LastName">AAGAARD</span>  <span class="FirstName">, TODD, S. </span> <br />
    <span class="LastName">AAMOT</span> <span class="FirstName">, KARI,</span> <br/>
    <span class="LastName">AARON</span> <span class="FirstName">, MARJORIE, C.</span> <br/>
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Make a backup first.
    In the Find field use:
    <b>(\w+),\s+([^<]+)<\/b>\s*<br>
    In the Replace field use:
    <span class="LastName">$1</span> <span classs="FirstName">$2</span><br />
    Select Use regular expression. Light the blue touch paper, and click Replace All.

  • How to include wildcard in FTP adapter header variable?

    I have two partner links that use FTP adapters. The first one puts a file on the FTP server. It specifies a dynamic outbound file name based upon an input variable and the timestamp in the format "test_BATCHID_yyyyMMddHHmmss.csv" (e.g. test_1011_20050925153059.csv). This part works as expected.
    The second partner link is supposed to pick up a file on the same FTP server. This inbound filename will be based upon the outbound filename and another timestamp in a format such as "originalfilename.yyyyMMddHHmmss.txt" (e.g. test_1011_20050925153059.csv.20050926091541.txt). I have created a Transform action with a mapping to convert the outbound filename and assign it to the inbound header variable. It concatenates the outbound filename and ".*.txt" within the mapping. The inbound header shows up as test_1011_20050925153059.csv.*.txt in the audit, but the process hangs at the receive activity and the file never gets retrieved. Perhaps the asterisk is being interpreted literally?
    Does anyone know how to specify a wildcard character in an xpath expression in a way that it will be interpreted as a true wildcard? Or is there another way to tell the inbound adapter to look for a dynamic filename using wildcards?

    BPEL patch 1 supports performing a synchronous read using a BPEL invoke activity. The following forum post shows how to configure a read adapter manually.
    Re: Help! Three questions about FileAdapater.
    The subsequent patches of JDeveloper allow such an apdater to be configured automatically.
    ps: This adapter can be used to read a single file only i.e. you cannot use a wild character.

  • File System Task - using a wildcard in variable

    Hi,When using the "delete file" operation in the file system task I get an error stating that I have an incorrect path when using the wildcard symbol.  Is there a way around this or do I have to spell out the whole name for each file in the
    directiory.  I cannot not use the "delete directory contents" operation because I have two sub directiories in my directory.  I'm trying to use the following when I get the error
    \\devbox\df\*.csv  when I spell out whole name of the file it works.  Any suggestions?
    LISA86

    this cant be done like this. Only possible if you put file system task in for each loop container and perform deletion one at at time.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms140185.aspx
    The File System task operates on a single file or directory. Therefore, this task does not support the use of wildcard characters to perform the same operation on multiple files. To have the File System task repeat an operation on multiple files or directories,
    put the File System task in a Foreach Loop container, as described in the following steps:
    Configure the Foreach Loop container   On the Collection page of the Foreach Loop Editor, set the enumerator to
    Foreach File Enumerator and enter the wildcard expression as the enumerator configuration for
    Files. On the Variable Mappings page of the Foreach Loop Editor, map a variable that you want to use to pass the file names one at a time to the File System task.
    Add and configure a File System task   Add a File System task to the Foreach Loop container. On the
    General page of the File System Task Editor, set the SourceVariable or
    DestinationVariable property to the variable that you defined in the Foreach Loop container.

  • Receiver determination wildcard in condition editor

    Hi experts,
    I have a question regarding the condition editor for receiver determinations on PI 7.1. I have an xpath expression on the left side and I need to have a condition on the right side that includes a certain pattern.
    One example:
    p1:myDocument/element = 1A2B*
    There I would want to read the xml element "element" and redirect to a certain communcation component if the value of 'element' starts with 1A2B.. regardless if its 1A2B3 or 1A2BC and so on.
    Is that possible? I tried like in the example to use * as a wildcard, but that didn't work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    It should not be = operator ....it should be Contains Pattern Operator

  • Need help in unix regular expressions

    Hi All,
    I'm new to shell scripting. Please help me in achieving this
    I am trying to a find regular expression that need to pick a file with begin with the below format and mask variable is called in xml file.
    currently the script accepts:
    mask="CLIENT_ID+'_ADHSUITE_IN_'+date2str(now,'MMddyy','US/Eastern')+'.txt'"
    But it should accept in the below format
    2595_ADHSUITE_IN_ANNWEL_030309_2009-02-10_15-12-46-000_648.TXT715.outpgp_out
    where CLIENT_ID=2595. How to place wild card character '*' in the below to accept file in the above format. here is what i made changes.
    mask="CLIENT_ID+'_ADHSUITE_IN_'*+date2str(now,'MMddyy','US/Eastern')*+'.TXT'*+'.outpgp_out'"
    Please help.
    Thanks

    I believe your statement is being passed over twice:
    First Pass: (This is done by something like javascript)
    CLIENT_ID+'_ADHSUITE_IN_'+'.*'+date2str(now,'MMddyy','US/Eastern')+'.*'+'.TXT'+'.*'+'.outpgp_out'In this pass the variables and functions that are enclosed in literals are processed:
    (1) CLIENT_ID is replaced by 2595 or whatever is current value is:
    (2) date2str(now,'MMddyy','US/Eastern') gets replaced by 040609 (if the current time now is 4th april 2009).
    So at the end of this first pass we have a string:
    2595_ADHSUITE_IN_.\*040609.\*.TXT.*.outpgp_outThis string at the end of the first pass is a Posix basic regular expression. (ref: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression] ) accessed at time of post).
    This is the string I put in the Regular Expression text box on [http://www.fileformat.info/tool/regex.htm]
    and it matches "2595_ADHSUITE_IN_ANNWEL_040609_2009-01-27_17-02-28-000_631.TXT715.outpgp_out" for me (though I prefer my egrep test).
    I hope this is somewhat clearer. Remember I have very little information about your system/application and I make big guesses.
    NB: (I should thank Frits earlier for pointing my sloppiness between wildcards (for eg unix shell filename expansion) and regular expressions).
    For the second pass this used to compared other strings to see
