Will be leaving Verizon Wireless after five and a half years...

Note, people with Verizon please listen and think clearly on this.  I have asked Verizon a question and I can not get a valid response.  My question is:  How can a person pay their bill on time (due date August 15th for instance) when their bill is coming up as being past due on August 1st?  Yes, I will be leaving Verizon Wireless services after five and a half years and I will not be returning EVER.  So people, please, check your bill carefully because it seems that Verizon's billing software has had a few 'glitches' lately and yes, that glitch was apparently corrected for a short time on October 9th (Tuesday after Columbus Day) but has apparently returned.  Apparently Verizon seems to be making too much money bilking people for being past due before the due date and I just can not continue doing business with such a 'money grubbing' company,  And so many 'promises' broken in recent times that I know better than to believe anyone in the company that says "We're here to help".  I know better.  Goodbye and good riddance and please don't ever turn my phones back on, I wish to have some sanity back in my life again and Verizon Wireless is NOT part of that sanity.

My bill has NEVER come up as being PAST DUE before the due date ECXEPT for the 1 time several years ago when I forgot enter in the new expiration date on my credit card listed in autopay.
Currently, my bill due on Nov 11 IS NOT listed as past due.
My guess is if your bill says past due BEFORE your due date is because you did not pay all or some of your last bill.
Bad news is that other providers will treat you the same way if you do this with them, too.

  • HT5498 Is this information still valid after one and a half years? Are the lightning-to-HDMI or lightning-to-VGA cables the only available options to send video to a TV set?

There is a relative using an iPhone 5s and is interested in streaming video from her iPhone to an old TV set; unfortunately the TV set does not have either HDMI or VGA connectors; therefore we figured out getting a "lightning-to-30 Pin adapter", plug it to the iPhone 5s and use an old "Composite AV Cable" to do the trick. However, I found this post informing video streaming is not possible through the "lightning-to-30 Pin adapter", but -considering its post date- I would like to know if that info is still valid or if something has changed since then. Obviously changing the TV set is not an option, we have a limited "budget" to solve this.

Thanks for the feedback Rudegar. We're not planning using airplay mirroring using AppleTV, but directly as it used to work with old iPhone 4S. Just attaching the composite video cable (30pin-to-Composite) to the iPhone 4 worked on almost any TV set equipped with composite jacks. Maybe I have to rewrite the question to "...available wired options to send video to a TV set?"

  • Will anyone at Verizon Wireless make it right?

Absolutely horrified with my experience at an official Verizon Wireless store yesterday, then while on phone with official Verizon corporate CS rep while in store. Situation got even worse when following up with @VZWSupport on Twitter afterwards. 6 hours of direct messages and still no resolution. Endless loop of ineptitude. I am a loyal customer since 2003 and never had an issue prior. Was always happy to pay a premium for VZW service because I thought it was worth it. Now getting ready to file a complaint with the BBB and looking into another cellular service provider. Verizon Wireless, after all these years, shame on you. Will anyone on your team make it right?

I too just got off the phone with a CS rep and got the runaround about the same data promotion that I was promised but never recieved!!! I have been with Verizon about 7 years and used to like them alot. Now they have no record of my conversation and wont honor it!! They just want me to spend another $30 to up my data plan!! I am already spending $240.00 a month for the plan I am on!!! They claim I am such a loyal customer but yet wont accomodate my needs. I just read a consumer report about the top 10 carriers and I will be leaving verizon and using one of them that offer the same plan but higher data gbs for less than half of what verizon charges!!!! I am sickened by verizons ethics! DLM

I have a Macbook Pro 15" that is three and a half years old.  Although it has slowed a bit, it still runs well and runs every program I need. Any tips for how to keep this old computer running well and in good health?
I have a 250 gig drive and try to keep at least 100 gigs unused at all times, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, back up with Time Machine and CrashPlan, and have OS X 10.7.3.
This was my first Mac since an old Apple II GS.  After that I used PC's and got really good at reformatting, replacing drives, reinstalling, defragging, resolving software conflicts, etc.  Since switching back to Macs (five in my extended family now), I haven't had to do any of those things. So, although, the cost is three times as much, the aggrevation has been ten times less.
I'm retired and living on a fixed income and would therefore like to keep this computer running as opposed to constatntly upgrading.
    That said, any tips?
    Thanks
It does have a crack on the left of the screen case about 3/4'' up from the bottom.  I've posted that as another question.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Adding more RAM, if feasible, and a new, faster hard drive may also help pep it up a little.

  • My MacBook Pro (2 and a half years old) won't start

My MacBook Pro (2 and a half years old) won't start up. For a long time it showed the apple logo and a load bar. When the load bar completed 7 hours later, the computer shut off and now I can't get it to start up past the first screen w apple logo. Help!

Watch this video -> http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macbookpro_13_unibody_early11_hd/ - it's for late 2011 models, too: if it looks too daunting, have an AASP do the job.
I don't know of any websites in S. Korea but you should decide on what capacity you want (prices have plummetted for 1 or even 1.5 terabyte drives) and look for the dimensions of 2.5" x 9.5mm.
Personally, I like HGST (Hitachi) drives - particularly the Travelstar 7K1000 (a one terabyte drive with SATA III (6.0Gbps - which your model supports) speeds.
One thing I've been hearing a lot of positive views on, though, is the Seagate 1 terabyte SSHD (a 'hybrid' drive that uses both SSD and spinning drive technologies -> here's one at Amazon). Your machine would run much faster with one of these hybrid drives.
Take a look at the video and decide if you can DIY. I'm tickled that you have backups - most people, it seems, don't!
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Verizon Wireless Network Extender and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Customer Service experience

It was a dark and stormy night...
For the past eight years, I had been happy with Verizon wireless service. Great coverage and rarely a dropped call. However, all of that changed when I moved into a lovely mid-century modern condominium. The solid concrete walls and ceilings were blocking my attempts to communicate with the outside world (i.e. order pizza).
Enter the Verizon Wireless Network Extender! My own personal cell tower! Alas, the VWNE was $250, which was a lot of money. So, being the resourceful recycling advocate that I am, I procured a refurbished one and hooked it up to my network. Then I called Verizon to begin what would soon become one of the Bottom 10 Least Enjoyable Experiences in customer service history (note: obvious foreshadowing).
The first technician I spoke with was Benjamin, who was actually quite helpful. He noted the VWNE's MAC address and other information before attempting to allow me to access my unit. But he could not. Why? Apparently the unit was still registered to another Verizon customer. He told me the matter would be forwarded to "Verizon Correspondence Support" who would contact the registered owner and get their approval to reassign the unit.
A week later, I called in to ask about the status of my request, but was told by Darryl (another tech from the VWNE department) that the "Verizon Correspondence Support" department did not exist. Did. Not. Exist? Fine, I explained the situation again, and Darryl eventually told me he would submit a special access form which may resolve the problem. He apologized for the mixup, thanked me for my patience, and told me to wait 24-48 hours for his return call with the results.
120 hours later, I called to ask about the status of the change access form because I had not received a callback. Michelle, another representative of VWNE support, told me there was no record of this form having been submitted. No. Record...? After which, she made no effort to help me after reading through my transcript. In fact, quite the opposite. To paraphrase...
"I'm sorry we wasted two weeks of your time leading you to believe we had a solution. Actually, there is no Verizon Correspondence Department, there is no special access form, and no tech will be calling you back. Furthermore, I will not allow you to use our unit because the previous owner hasn't filled out Release Form 27B stroke 6. For all I know it might have been stolen. Perhaps by you? I guess we'll never know for sure, because I won't contact the owner for any reason. In fact, there is nothing I can do to help you whatsoever. But if you like, feel free to throw our network adapter in a landfill. Thank you and have a nice day."
OK Michelle, here's the deal. I don't even WANT this doohickey. You see, all I want is for my phone to work. That's why I am calling you. To get THIS piece of your equipment working, at my expense, so that I can continue to be a Verizon customer. Seems like I'm doing my part. Why is this so difficult?
    "Sorry"
Lesson of the story? DON'T BE A MICHELLE. If a customer is in trouble and you can't solve his/her problem, contact a supervisor and work out an alternative. In my example, perhaps Verizon could have provided me with an "official" VWNE? At a discount? Or have a technician sent out to examine the signal? Really, *anything* is better than being brushed off. After being brushed off.
    After being brushed off.

Follow up: I acquired another VWNE from a local seller, just in case he had to be contacted for the Nuclear Priority Phone Release Code (geez). Ironically, it wasn't necessary, because said fellow had already left Verizon after too many negative customer service issues. Oops.
The good news is that Verizon was able to properly activate the second unit. I was connected to a VWNE tech named Bertha who was VERY helpful and treated me like a human being. Which made all the difference and restored my faith in humanity. I requested that my story be relayed to upper management so that the hordes of secondhand VWNE buyers wouldn't also get burned by Verizon's "hands off and look elsewhere" policy. Bingo. Finally. Done.
Epilogue: Until Verizon eases up on their needlessly stringent policy, beware the unchecked VWNE! Be sure to get the MAC code and check it with a local store/tech support before buying it.

  • New York Customers - Do not go to the Verizon Wireless on 57th and 6th Avenue in Manhattan!!

Hi, everyone.  I am a Verizon Wireless subscriber for years now and am extremely knowledgeable in terms of Wireless Technology, CDMA/GSM networks, ESN numbers, etc. Basically, everything that a Verizon Wireless employee should know.  In any case, I did not know where to complain about a specific VZW store, so I decided to do it here and hopefully help some people avoid problems at this store if they are in the area.  I have been to the 57th Street and 6th Avenue store on several occassions, whether it was for an upgrade, inquiries, swapping phones with a friend, tech support, or just browsing.  Whenever I enter the store, there is usually an employee there to "greet" you; although their greet is nothing more than "Can I help you?" with a less than enthusiastic tone.  I will give below just a few examples of why I hate this store:
    1) I went there a few weeks ago because I had a upgrade on 1 of my 5 Family Plan lines.  So, I walked in and was taken over to a computer by the Manager.  He asked me what kind of phone was I looking for.  I told him that I wanted the iPhone 4.  He told me, "Well you know that the iPhone 4s is coming out soon, right?"  I said, yes I knew that but for now i wanted the iPhone 4.  I asked him about the return policy on the phone (which I already knew thoroughly), but just to make sure, and he explained that a customer has 14 days to either return or exchange the phone without penalty, aside from paying the $30-something restocking fee.  So I said, ok, great I will take the iPhone 4, and if for some reason I choose to exchange it for the iPhone 4s within those 14 days I will do it.  Then he tells me, "well, no, in fact, we don't want you to do that.  That's why I am asking you now.  If you return it or exchange it, that's money that comes out of my paycheck."  I couldn't believe he said that.  For one, I don't understand how exchanging comes out of his paycheck, perhaps returning it, but either way, that's not my issue.  Verizon Wireless has created a return policy for a reason and I should be able to do whatever I want without comment from a snotty employee regardless, as long as I am within the polcy's limit.  To sum that up, I basically made it seem that I wasn't going to change it and that I just wanted the iPhone 4.
    2) In regards to the above story, I eventually ended up returning the device, all while avoiding this nasty manager I dealt with, and picked up a iPhone 4S at another Verizon Wireless Store.  This brings me to my next ridiculous story.  So, one of my other lines had an iPhone 4, which I then upgraded to an iPhone 4s.  Now, I had an extra iPhone 4 so I decided to sell it online.  I finally found someone who was interested in purchasing from me, and asked to meet me at my nearest VZW store, which happens to be the one down the block that I spoke of above.  He wanted to meet there in order to ensure that the ESN was clean.  So, we meet there, walk in, and we are "greeted" and asked what we wanted.  He says he would like to check the ESn of the iPhone to make sure that it is clean (not on the lost/stolen list) and can be activated withour a problem.  She looks at him as if he had 6 heads and asked again what exactly he wanted.  He repeated "I would like to check if the ESN on this phone is clean so it can be activated."  She continues to stare at him as if he's crazy then says "Oh, I see, you mean like if its stolen or something?"  He said yes and she replied fairly nastily "Oh, well, we don't have that information here, (which is a lie) you gotta call Customer Care on one of these phones."  So he says "Uh, ok, thanks."  She goes to get the number to VZW Customer Service which, I already know by heart, although I told the guy, just call 611 from one of the handsets.  In any case, it ended up being clean (obviously) after speaking with a rep on the phone, and we went on our way.
These might seem like trivial issues, but remember that these are only 2 specific examples.  Almost every person in that store has an attitude.  Also, the story is fairly busy, so you will more often than not, be spending a fair amount of time there, waiting and waiting, even though there will be 20 employees on the floor, but only 5 working.  I have been a VZ Wireless subscrtiber for a long time and have never had a complaint about service or even the telephone Customer Support Center.  But when I walk into a store, I feel as if they should be working for "me" and other customers and should at least have basic knowledge of Verizon Wireless policies, phones, plans, etc.  And I know, you all may think, well just go to another store, but for me it is conveniently located and I shouldn't "have to" go out of my way just to get basic things done.  There have been times when I've walked in there, that I really don't want to deal with VZW anymore and just take my business elsewhere.

bnjr86 wrote:  There have been times when I've walked in there, that I really don't want to deal with VZW anymore and just take my business elsewhere.
I  wonder if another provider would really be much different?  Read some of the other carrier forums - seems to be the same story everywhere.
I'm not disagreeing with you - I've found that I am usually more informed about Verizon policies and procedures than some of the reps in our local store.

  • Hp laserjet cp1525nw will not sync to wireless after the Internet network is lost and returns

My hp laserjet cp1525nw works fine UNLESS the cable modem losses signal. At this point the blue light on the printer blinks. This continues after the signal comes back from my ISP. The only way to get the printer to work wirelessly again is to power cycle it. I have tried pushing the wireless button below the blue lite. My J6480 works fine.
    Any ideas,

Hey there @FC111 , welcome to the HP Community
If you are running a Windows OS, you can try running the Print and Scan Doctor to potentially find your home network again and connect to it. If that does not work, try Uninstalling the Printer Software and reinstalling the printer.
I hope that helps, let me know the results and which OS you're running.

  • Loyal customer leaving Verizon Wireless

I have been using Verizon since I got my first cell phone - not even sure what that was... Well over 10 years ago.  I stuck with Verizon as their customer service was outstanding!
In the past month I have called twice about my bill.  The first call they told me they would remove my overage charge as I had made a mistake with regard to dates. They said a supervisor would call me back if there was an issue.  No one ever called me back, and the charge wasn't removed.  So I called back, as I didn't want to pay until resolved.  I spoke with a representative who took off a much smaller amount & said that he would have a supervisor call me back to discuss the rest.  No one ever called.
Today I paid the bill - I may not agree with it, but I do have a choice - to look for a new provider.
Verizon - you lost a truly loyal customer.  And with more & more options these days, you will continue to lose more with the deterioration of your customer service.
Note - I would have reached out directly to Verizon, but since I tried that twice to no avail, and since they don't make it easy to submit issues via email or phone, I'm posting it here...

You read right. However the process is also in state consumer laws. I would have to research it on McKinneys
the process is any disputes regarding overcharges, bogus charges and charges in dispute will be handled as a collection if verizon sends it to Financial Security it is in collections.
Over 34 years ago I disputed my invoice with Cellular One. it was not a large dispute but they kept billing me after my dispute of the amount, they did not say why it was owed or for what just a dollar amount. Eventually I get a in house collection letter stating to pay up or dispute it. The other option was call them up to discuss the situation.
Since my dispute was already sent I need not send it again, I called and this very nice lady and I went through the account and my dispute and she was aware of the certified letter and she said I was correct. Take invoice, subtract payments and credits and it actually was they owed me money. Funny the creditor always thinks they are right.
If you read the back of your credit card agreement it also tells you how to dispute your charges and your bank does the same thing. Verizon is not above the consumer laws.
Even though its for debt collection, the certified letter dispute holds up in small claims court and in arbitration hearings. However the difference is verizon states your invoice must be paid while its disputed. This is not enforceable since it conflicts with Federal and State Consumer Laws.

  • May leave Verizon only after one month!

I recently graduated from college and started my first real job- in the process of trying to become as independent as I can I had my number released from my family's plan and got started with my own. I was still covered on my family's plan for another week, so there was a decent amount of overlap in coverage. In my discussion with the Verizon sales rep she told me my new account was set up and ready to go at that moment. A couple weeks later I get my bill and I had overage charges for the day I switched my account! Apparently when you switch accounts you get an allotment of 15 minutes of calling for that day; that may have been something helpful to know before I switched. Not once in my conversation was a 15 min limit brought up, because obviously I would have waited another day to start up my account! I had 45 min. of usage that day (and this 45 min call was done before I set up my new account) and was charged for 30 minutes, even though I was "ready to go" and still technically paid through another week with my family. I thought it must be a mistake and I'm sure someone in customer support will be able to help me, boy was I wrong. I got to talk to an extremely rude woman, Monique, who told me that it was not right for me to expect to get that day free and be exempt from paying my bill. I tried again to explain the situation and she continued to imply that I was in essence a free loader and then magically my call was dropped. I am not happy at all with verizon; the only reason I decided to stay with them was convenience. Are there any further steps to take to get a bill adjusted? Or does Verizon not assist with mistakes and misinformation given to new customers?

        Hi Largesj,
Congrats on graduating from college! That is a big acheivement. I am happy to read that you took over your own line too. We want you to have a great relationship with us.  I am following you, please follow me (bobbys_Vzw) and send me a direct message with your number and billing password. I want to look into your account and get this figured out for you.  I look forward to your response.

  • Verizon wireless customer service and the iphone 6

I just upgraded to the iphone 6. It is a nice phone. Fast, sleek, seems more durable than the reports of it bending etc.
    (Knock on wood).
The biggest problem I have is VERIZON. Having been a customer for well over a decade, I was annoyed that I had to pay them $30 to sign a two year contract to give them money in exchange for service. Why the fee, I ask?
"Because everyone charges a fee". Cool. There is also a cliff right over there.
The customer service agent was polite and offered to offset this charge on my next bill, and to go ahead and pay this fee on top of the $300 for the phone. I did. And signed the next two year contract. Did he give me said credit? Nope. When I asked the next customer service agent of this, she said "we don't do that". When I asked Brandy, a supervisor, she also stated that this cannot be credited. Convenient timing as I had already signed the contract. I don't like giving money to companies that trick people out of money. I think I have out grown Verizon. Or Verizon's customer service has outgrown itself.
Regardless, it's the principle. Getting lied to and treated like a sucker doesn't feel good. And I paid money to have it done to me.
    Thanks Verizon!

Bluevelvet, I'm sorry you feel this way. Although it was a difficult decision to implement the upgrade fee, we did decide that doing so would allow us to continue to provide savings to our customers. While a $30.00 upgrade fee may not sound like savings, the savings comes in the form of being able to subsidize our devices with contracts. Additionally, the upgrade fee can be avoided with Edge since the device is not subsidized.
You mentioned purchasing an iPhone 6. I'm glad to see that you are happy with the design and performance of it. Normally, the iPhone 6 16GB (I'll use this for an example) is $649.99 for full retail. With the larger memory and different model, it's even pricier. By charging a $30.00 upgrade fee, we can subsidize this cost for you in exchange for a two year contract, so intead of paying $649.99 out of pocket, you only have to pay $199.99.
I do want to review the offer that was presented to you. I have sent you a direct message here. Please reply to the direct message.
