Will my 12" G4 PB 1.5ghz ,,, Run Leopard ?  Minimum system requirements ?

The Genius told me to wait for Leopard os X . Well I would like to know if I need a dual processor with an intel chip machine. Will it be retro compatible ?
Thanks Hans K.

Yes your machine will run Leopard very well. I've used both retail and developer seeds since before the 10.0 public beta and every major Mac OS X update has increased performance on the same hardware. There have yet to be any negative comments (performance wise) about the current developer seeds.
In addition, the GPU in your machine supports Core Animation, so theoretically in many respects you should get a smoother experience.
Leopard is scheduled to be released by Spring 2007, so that's why you were probably advised to wait for an upgrade.

  • Will LE9 work on a PPC G5 running Leopard?

Will be getting a new iMac in a few weeks but was hoping to get the LE9 update and install it on my G5 running Leopard. Will it work?
    Thanks

I run LE9 on a G5 dual processor with Leopard and it is fine for me. There were updates that I wanted to load that required an Intel processor so be sure the version you use does not include such an update.

  • Will Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 run Leopard?

I just bought a MacBook Pro and purchased Leopard (had to get the install disks since I bought the Macbook prior to Leopard release). I also have a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 and need to know if I can load and run Leopard on it? It currently has OS 10.3.9 and would like to get it up to speed and in sync with my MacBook if possible . . . but am still confused about everything I see on in discussions as to whether or not this is possible. Help!
    Robin

The G4 can readily run Leopard. Here's the requirements:

However, the license that came with your Leopard install DVD limits you to one Mac, unless you bought the family pack.

  • Anyone running Leopard on an 867 Mhz computer?

I've got a Titanium G4 867 Mhz and I'm wondering if Leopard will run
decently on my machine or not. I know that it meets the minimum system requirements but if it runs poorly it's not worth it.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

    Hey There,
I just installed Leopard on both of my G4 powerbooks last night. One is a titanium 667mhz DVI and the other a 667mhz titanium Vga model... I tricked out the installer into believing i had a 1ghz cpu by using openfirmware before i inserted the install dvd which I purchased at my local Apple store. If you want me to tell you how let me know. I had a few problems do to the consitency of my previous Tiger drive. I had to reinstall it a couple of times which honestly was a pain in the behind. When I totally erased the hard drives and installed fresh new Leopard It was a success. The very first boot was reall slow as expected. When leopard opened up for the very first time after all the welcome stuff and registration, It was a lot slower then tiger to my surprise which didnt make me to happy after all of those long hours of install after install. So I decide to go to the upgrades menu and check for upgrades. Once I installed the leopard 10.5.1 upgrade it was Way faster then my tiger ever was. I really don't see why Leopard needs at least an 887mhz because it runs Superbly on my 667mhz. And I've messed with everything already with massive multitasking to really see stabillity and It is better then tiger at least for me. The trick is A CLEAN install with No previous data from tiger. and then after install just manually transfer documenst and applications if you like But def not the user data especially if your tiger was modified in anyway shape or form by you.

  • Basic System Requirements for running 3rd party samples

    Here's a VSL instruments conundrum.
From what I can see, I've got approximately double the minimum system requirements spelled out by VSL for running Vienna Instruments II. But my system is crashing immediately with only one instrument plugged in.
Here's my full setup and things I've tried so far.
MacBook Pro, 1.86gHZ Dual Core processor, 2G DRAM.
    MOTU Ultralite I/O Interface
    Logic Pro 7.2.4
500Gig 7200 RPM, 8mb cache RAM external Western Digital Hard Drive.
Firewire 400 (the early MacBook Pros from last year didn't have 800).
VSL installer, Logic Pro, and Syncrosoft are the latest updated versions (just bought VSL last week).
Vienna Instruments are installed on the external. Logic Pro and Vienna standalone are installed on the internal computer drive (200G, 40G empty).
Since I only have one firewire slot, I have tried piggy backing the MOTU and the 500G external hard drive both ways (MOTU plugged directly into the computer in front of the HD, with the HD piggy-backed into the MOTU's firewire slot, and the HD in front of the MOTU). No difference in results.
Specific issue: everything works flawlessly until I plug in just one Vienna sample. As soon as I choose it (before playing anything), the system starts to crackle, and even just trying to audition the sample in the AU Standalone taxes the system beyond being able to make a consistent sound. As I touch the "piano keys" in the standalone, most of the time I get no sound, other times I'll get the note accompanied by a lot of crackling. Then when I actually try to play the sample in a Logic Pro track, all sound is hosed. Only solution is to reboot Logic Pro, and 1/3 of the time I have to reboot the computer itself.
This happens whether I have 10 other Logic Pro instruments plugged in or none. One highly optimized Vienna sample by itself hoses the whole system (example - I've tried the Bosendorder optimized to only take up 1MB of RAM - same result including only 20% of the notes playing in the VSL standalone before I even try to play it in a Logic Pro track).
The system requirements spelled out by VSL are about half of what my system has. (VSL calls for a minimum 1G processor and 1G of RAM - I have a 186gHZ Dual Core processor and 2G Ram). I don't mind having to optimize and play some tricks to get 6-10 instruments to play at once, but I can't get a single instrument to run (with double the minimum system requirements).
Spent 2 1/2 full days working on this so far with no progress. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, you've managed to start three separate threads about the same thing. This not only fragments all the responses you'll get, but it also limits the search engine for future users experiencing similar problems, looking for solutions.... but hey, it ain't my forum...
I can't help but wonder if having two FW devices on the same bus is causing a bottleneck on the FW buss. Getting an external FW card for your mac might be necessary...keeping the VSL Hard Drive and the MOTU interface on separate busses.
In the meantime, try this... switch your audio driver to "Built-In Audio", so that Logic is using it's internal sound card, not your MOTU. Try loading a VSL instance and playing.
If it works, playing through your computer's speakers, then you've possibly found the trouble.
Have you emailed VSL Tech support yet?

I have recently purchased Microsoft office for mac. I have installed it on my imac with no problems. However it will not in stall on my mini mac. Sounds like you've got a PowerPC G4 mini?  i.e. NOT an Intel mini?  What does it say after "Processor:" in "About this Mac"?

  • System requirement for the LV and VISA run-time library

    Dear
My application built from LV8.2.1 didn't run on the old-fashioned notebook, which was under XP and 256 RAM.
(The application was tested successfully in several times in other computer.)
In the only first running, there was no problem.
But after that, the application executed "twice" and one of two couldn't be removed even in Windows Task Manager.
(I had to switch off the computer for restarting PC)
However,  I am not sure if this problem is a kind of the library's bug but suspect the out-of-fashioned notebook.
What's the minimum system requirement for the LV run-time library and VISA runtime library of version 8.2.1?
    Or any other check points?

    Thank you, falkpl and smercurio_fc.
Of course, my application and the libraries have no problem in other computers.
There were no error messages but it seemed not to run normally.
My application had to show a status message prior to a VISA routine, but only a blank in the status control.
When I click the application one time, the application was not launched.
Then  the two same applcations were appeared in the second click.
One of two applications could be removed by the Taskmanager. (malfunction of the program exit button.)
But the remained one can't be exited by the Taskmanager or Exit Windows.
Maybe, I had better remove the XP and then try again.
Anyway, I can't understand  the reason why any NI Labview developer remained in silence for this kind of postings.

  • Could you please let me know if Flash Player will inform a user that his system requirements are insufficient when trying to use a given version of Flash Player?

    Hi,
Could you please let me know if Flash Player will inform a user that his system requirements are insufficient when trying to use a given version of Flash Player?
    Regards

It depends, but in general, no.
The guidance on minimum system requirements is mostly about what we will and won't fix bugs for.  Flash Player probably works on Windows Server 2000, and we're not going to intentionally break it or prevent you from installing it, but we're also not going to fix it if it breaks.  In instances where it's going to crash on launch or have some other horrendous out-of-box experience, like attempting to install on a PowerPC Mac, then we'll prevent the installation outright.

  • Increasing speed and power on G4 to run Leopard

    Hello Everyone,
I have an old 533MHz Power PC G4 with 384 MB SDRAMM. I bought this computer back in 2000. I am trying to increase it's processing power to accommodate Leopard. My purposes are to use it as a node machine running alongside my 4x2.5 GHz PPC G5 with 16 GB DDR2 SDRAMM, while running Logic and I can't do that unless they are both running the same operating systems. My questions are as follows:
    1) Can I pull the memory in my G4 and replace it with the memory that I pulled out of my G5 some
    months back? (Wishful Thinking)!?
    2) If question one is not an option, could someone please direct me to the absolute best solution for increasing my G4's processing power so that I may use it as an effective node machine?
As always, thanks to the forum in advance.
    Chad

Here's the spec sheet on your G4 http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg4/stats/powermac_g4533.html
    #1 - No. The G4 uses PC133 RAM.
    #2 - Here's the *Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements*
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950
You could add a faster processor (not cheap), since a processor speed of at least 867 MHz is required. Also you would need to add RAM, as 512MB is the minimum, but 1GB is really needed.
You would be better off getting a used G4 MDD with at least a 1GHz processor.

  • Getting new 8 core today - will it run Leopard?

My 2006 Mac Pro died today. I have 4 SATA drives in it's bays. One of the HD's has a Snow Leopard install and another has Leopard 10.5.8 on it. The other two have media files on them. I want to drop all 4 into the new Mac Pro and pull the one it comes with (for now)
Will I be able to option boot into my 10.5.8 HD like I did with my old Mac or will the new 8 core not let me run an OS lower than what it came with?
I'm a Pro Tools user under a deadline and it would be extremely convenient (I'm really under the gun at the moment) to just boot right into my Leopard drive and keep working!
    Thanks ahead of time!
    Dan-

My suggestion would be to get an older Mac that is capable of running Leopard in your case. The newer Mac is only going to cause you grief with your older software.

  • Will my Mac become too old to run an iPhone in 18 months?

    Hi
I have an iMac G4, which at 700 MHz is too slow to automatically upgrade to Leopard and is currently running 10.4.11.
Can I be confident that if I buy an iPhone on an 18 month contract I will still be able to use it with my Mac for some time into the future - at least for the next 18 months! The assistant at my local apple store could not reassure me and said there would be no refund on my contract if Apple upgraded iTunes beyond what 10.4.11 could support.
    Thanks for any comments
    Fif

You have gotten good info from others, but there is another way to look at it:
If you are willing to risk =potentially= having to forego iTunes and/or firmware updates in the future, then you can virtually guarantee that your existing setup will continue to work with your iPhone (assuming it works now).
You can also find lots of info about running Leopard on older Macs here:

As long as you don't use platform specific tools (such as IMAQ vision, ActiveX...), or advanced DAQmx functions, LabVIEW portability between platforms is excellent.
On MacIntosh, LabVIEW works fine with virtual PC, but is very slow (5-10 times...). Try it and see if it suits you needs.
