Win10 Browse for networked folder or share

So I can't seem to get BrowseForFolder, in vbscript, to show mapped or networked drives and locations in Win10 :\
Dim folderOptions, oShell, oFolder, oFolderItem
 folderOptions = &H1 + &H8 + &H10 + &H20 + &H40
 Set oShell = CreateObject( "Shell.Application" )
Set oFolder = oShell.BrowseForFolder( 0, "Select a Writeable Folder to Copy To:", folderOptions, "" )
 If oFolder Is Nothing Then
  GetFolderPath = ""
  Exit Function
 End If
 Set oFolderItem = oFolder.Self
 GetFolderPath = oFolderItem.Path
The browse dialog box opens, but there isn't any networked options. I've tried adding in &H1000 as well :\
I've checked
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb773205%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
and tried different numbers, but can't seem to get it working in Win10 tech preview. Anyone have any ideas? or is this a Win10 issue? I'm using build 9879 and fully updated as of 14 Dec 14
Thank you.

Those dialogs are deprecated since Windows Vista.  Use PowerShell instead of COM/VBScript.
The Shell calls were never intended to b used from script so there are many things that can be very flakey.

  • DFSR - This member is waiting for initial replication for replicated folder SYSVOL Share - How long should it take?

Yesterday we were forced to perform a non-authoritative sync of the SYSVOL folder as replication had stopped because one of the DCs had been disconnected from it's replication partner for more than 60 days (caused by a unexpected shutdown and we did not

  • Comment Repository:  Losing settings for Network folder

Using Acrobat Professional 7.0.8 in Windows XP Professional
Users are setup so that the Comment Repository is set to Network Folder. In the Administrator Provided Server Settings is a standard UNC path to common folder for comments to be stored.
Problem: The UNC path to the Comment Repository becomes "unset" (i.e. it's blank). I have reset this multiple times where it works for several days and then it mysteriously becomes "unset".
These are generally laptop users who are sometimes connected on the local LAN and sometimes connected through VPN.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Robert,
First ensure the permissions are also set correctly by right clicking the shared folder, and then open the Security tab.
If your user name is not listed as Full Control click the edit button, add your user name and check the box for as Allow full control.
If that does not help, follow these steps in Windows Vista to make sure that your computer is configured to allow network sharing.
Step one: Make sure that the computer user account is password protected
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
Click User Accounts , and then select the account you used to log into the computer.
Click Change your Windows password , and then find the user account you used to log into the computer.
If the user account is password protected , continue to the next step.
If the user account is not password protected , click Create a password for your account to create a password, and then continue to the next step.
Step two: Define the network location
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
    Click Network and Internet .
Click Network and Sharing Center .
Click Customize next to Your Network . The Set Network Location window opens.
Select Private , click Next , and then click Close .
Step three: Make sure that the network sharing and discovery options are correct
Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
In the Sharing and Discovery section, make sure that the following network options are set to On :
    Network Discovery
    File Sharing
    Public Folder Sharing (password required)
    Printer Sharing (password required)
    Password Protected Sharing
Your computer network is now successfully set to complete the Scan and Fax to Network Folder or Digital Fax to Network Folder Wizard.

  • Shortcut on desktop for network folder

I have a network of 2 machines (one Mac one vista).. i need to put a shortcut on my MAC desktop to one of the (networked) Vista folders.. how do i do this?.. I have tried just dragging the folder onto my (mac) desktop but that doesn't do it-- any help would be appreciated! thanks

Instead of just dragging, press the Option and Command keys before dragging the icon for the network disk onto the desktop. The icon being dragged should now have a curly arrow, which indicates it is an alias. Drop it on the desktop to create the alias.
You can also right (Control) click on the network disk while it is already mounted on the desktop, then select +Make Alias+ from the contextual menu.

  • HP8600 Scan Network Folder stops working to Win XP Pro whenever Web Printing is enabled

I have my HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g configured to allow scan to Network Folder with shares on two of my home computers. One runs Win 7 Professional (64b), the other runs Win XP Professional. On the printer's Embedded Web Server, I confirmed that Scan to Network Folder was operational for both systems using the "Scan" tab's "Network Folder Setup " links named "Test" for each device.
Then I enabled Web Printing from the 8600 front panel and returned to the Embedded Web Server to repeat the Network Folder Setup Tests. The test with Win 7 Pro passed, but the test with Win XP failed.
I then went back to the printer and disabled Web Printing, then returned to the Embedded Web Server for a third round of tests. This time both Win 7 and Win XP passed the Network Folder Setup tests, as they did before I enabled Web Printing.
Is this an expected behavior? If so, is the restriction when using Web Printing due to one system running XP Pro or to my having Scan to Network folders set up for two systems?
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dennis,
Based on your description, I understand that you configure redirected folder via Group Policy. If anything

Is there a registry change I can make to redirect the path from the local C' to the UNC path?
    Please type
regedit in Run to open Registry Editor and follow the path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Personal
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Personal
Please check if Value data was set to correct path.

  • Mail freezes when trying to browse network folder

    HELP HELP HELP!!!
mail opens fine, sends and receives fine.
If I attach a local file to the new email it works fine
If I browse the Server 2008 share through finder it works fine
*In a new email if i click on attach and try browse the server 2008 shared folder, mail locks up and I have to force close..*
I have 2 macbooks (OSX 10.6.4) and this happens on both..
FYI: I need the windows server so please don't worry about replacing it comments
Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue....

I am also experiencing this issue, Mail is freezing when browsing network folders when trying to attach to a composing email.
I was using Ubuntu 10.4 on my other notebook, where I have tried using smb:// and afp:// modes of shares. Both seem to produce the same beach ball freeze experience in mail when attaching. The shares do work well for all of the other applications I have used so far however.
For now I am able work around this by using Finder to browse the network share to copy the file to a local folder, and then navigate Mail to that local copy to attach that. Though it is the inconvenient kind of extra leg work that I am used to and expect when using (other PC type OS)
And I am interested in figuring out how to attach files on network shares too.

  • Browse for Folder path.

    Hi,
I have a requirement to store a directory path in a database, and would like the user to be able to browse to a folder and select it, so that the full path can be stored in a table.
I plan to have the initial browse point default to a network drive and parent directory, under which the user will navigate and select the appropriate child directory, probably at least 2 levels down.
The user will be entering data via a form. I had envisaged using a display only field to show the path, (blank for new records), and then having a 'Browse' button to select the directory, before submitting the form.
The question is how to achieve this. The File Browse item type is nearly there, but is obviously more concerned with uploading files. I just want to select and store a directory path.
Any ideas on how I can achieve this please. I have been trying to get a button to run some java script to open up a dialogue and return a directory path, without success, and I am not sure this is the best approach.
    Thanks in advance
    Mark

For security/privacy reasons recent versions of browsers by default do not send local file path information from File Browse items to the server, nor expose the file path in the control's JavaScript methods. Firefox, Safari and Chrome only provide the filename. IE6 & IE7 still yield the path in Windows format. IE8 and Opera have adopted an irritating approach of replacing the path with a wholly imaginary "C:\fakepath\".
Changes to IE's security config setting “Include local directory path when uploading files” enables the path to be exposed in IE8, but unless you're working in an intranet environment where: IE is the only browser used; it's possible to make remote changes to this setting on every desktop; and this won't break/expose anything else, then you'd be strongly advised to rethink this requirement.
    For more information see:

I have a requirement to store a directory path in a database, and would like the user to be able to browse to a folder and select it, so that the full path can be stored in a table. If you explain what this requirement is then possibly some alternative approaches can be suggested that don't involve storing file paths.

  • "Browse for Folder" Issue

Has anyone else had the problem where they cannot go to any subfolders in their "Browse for Folder" dialog box?
I have all of my photos organized by year and then by month.
I have made changes to various photos and want to save them. However, when I go to export my changes, I can only export to my "Main" folder. When I click on the plus (+) sign, nothing happens besides the plus (+) sign disappearing. Nothing locks up.
For now, I am saving to my main folder and then manually moving them to the folder I want them in.
    Thanks,
    -Lou

All I'm trying to do is find a folder to export my modified photo to.
For example, I pull up photo DSN_5678. It was imported from My Pictures\2007\06-June folder. I make my changes to the image and now want to "save" the changes so I can have it available for other users on my network. (NOTE: Ignore the network comment since I use another program to backup my pictures to my network from my local hard drive. I keep all my pictures on my local hard drive and back up to a server for everyone else to see and use.)
When I click on Export, the dialogue box comes up just as it should.
I then click on the "Choose..." button in order to change the directory. When I go to "choose" the folder I want to save/export the image to, it doesn't allow me to select any other folders than the ones listed in the "Browse for Folder" dialogue box (My Computer, My Pictures, Shared Documents and a few others that I do not want my pictures saved to). Everytime I click on the plus (+) sign to expand the tree, nothing happens beside the plus (+) sign disappearing.
    Any suggestions?

  • Can Lightroom references files in a network folder? And can multiple people all share a Lightroom catalog?

I would like to use Lightroom 5 at work to organize and manage photos. There are 10 people that consistently access the photos and videos. All of the photos and videos are on a network folder/drive. Is it possible for all 10 people to have a copy of Lightroom on their computers and then have a single catalog that all of the computers references? I guess the first question is whether Lightroom can references files on a network folder (if not than my first question isn't really relevant). If it is possible, what happens if two people (or more) have Lightroom open at the same time? Does that cause problems with the database? Please let me know if there is some way to make this work. Thanks..

Photos can be stored on Network Drives.
Catalog files cannot be stored on Network drives, and there is no way to allow multi-user access.
If you need multi-user access, you might want to consider software that allows multi-user access, such as Daminion. (Note: I am not endorsing Daminion, as I have never used it. I simply state that it claims to have a feature you are asking about)

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Network Folder Setup to Yosemite share

I have an HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro (N911g) that is hooked up to the network wirelessly. I have used the scan to network folder extensively during the time I've owned it, connecting to either an Apple Time Capsule or an OS X workstation with an SMB share.
I recently upgraded the workstation in question to Yosemite (OS X 10.10), and now the scan to a network folder fails with the error "Incorrect credentials". I have recreated the setup on the printer to verify that the credentials and path supplied are correct, and have tested the account name I'm using from a windows machine to confirm that the credentials are valid. I have also tried turning off the AFP share on that workstation to ensure it was not interferring with the SMB share, and there was no change in the behavior.
Any thoughts on further troubleshooting steps?

Just to let you know I posted the same issue in another thread a few days ago.  We don't have a solution yet, but there are a whole bunch of us with the same problem you've posted about:

  • Problem with Copy To/Browse for Folder

Don't know when it started doing this, but now when I right-click and select Copy To and select Browse for Folder it only shows me folders that are under my W7 user name.
I need to get to my external drive, but it doesn't display Computer.
    Strange and very inconvenient.
    Looking for a solution.

Hmm, can't imagine how my workspace would relate to what drives Bridge reads using the Copy To. My drives show up just fine in the folders view. And also in the Export to dialog.
I keep my images on an external drive.
Folders that are not under my user name on C drive, but still on another drive show up in the recent ones in Copy To and access just fine.
So it makes no sense that Copy To>Browse for Folder only displays my drive C Windows user folder on that other drive.
