Win7Pro + Office 2010 - integrate in same image and sysprep?

Hello,
are there any arguments against  installing Office 2010 Sp1 into an Windows 7 Pro image  and then syspreping the image? Image will be used for many 100 clients.
Activation is for both (Win+Office) over kms.
Is this against best practices? Should Office always be kept out of the image...?
Would be thankful for any help on this.
Hugo

Hi,
So, here is the best practice for you:
Configure Office 2010 for capturing an image

  • Office 2010 keeps deliver same email to pst

    Hi,
I have a few users having Outlook 2010 keeps deliver the same email from exchange mailbox to local pst.
the email at exchange mailbox do not remove after delivered local pst which makes Outlook 2010 keeps sending same email to pst in loop. The workaround is delete the email from exchange manually to stop Outlook 2010 deliver to pst
Is there any patches can fix this issue
    Thanks very much in advance
    Kabuto

    Hi,
As an initial troubleshooting step, I would suggest you to use scanpst.exe tool to scan and repair any errors in your PST file.
Please refer to this article on how to use scanpst.exe:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx
You might also want to create a new Outlook profile and have a try. For how to create an Outlook profile, please refer to:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/create-an-outlook-profile-HA102749460.aspx
I would also suggest you to troubleshoot on Exchange Server side, as issue occurs on multiple Outlook clients. You can post your question in the forum for Exchange:

  • Office 2010, Appdata, Roaming user profile and Normal.dot

    Hello,
We have roaming profile on our domain users and they are working fine within the network.
When they are at home using the same computers, they login with a cached copy of their domain profile.
    Server is 2008 R2, Windows 7 x64 clients and Office 2010 x64 package.
When the users go home, they get "The file Normal.dot cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents" and "Word cannot open the existing file (Normal)" error when they open Word 2010.
If they use VPN or connect remotely to the network, everything is fine. But when they are at home and just want to open a document from their USB stick, this happens.
The users Documents, Desktop, Favorites etc are mapped to DFS shares in the network.
This of course means, they don't have access to them at home, which is fine.
On the ADM template for Office 2010, the User Template path is set to  : "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates"
AppData folders is redirected to localprofile for the above to work and under the "Exclude Directories in romaing profile" we have added the entire "AppData\Roaming" (we are testing so that is fine for now) but still the "Appdata\Roaming"
travels with the roaming profile which means the Template path becomes unavailable (or so it seems) when the users disconnect from the network.
But what is confusing is, I can still browse to the above path manually, but Word 2010 some how seems to think its not there.
We do not want to use Offline feature (yet), and want to find if there is any other method of solving this.
    Ramu V Ramanan

Thanks Jeff. I don't want to go down that second path, autorecover is not our foe here, its the 'Templates folder'
As for the first part, that doesn't work. The problem is word still looks for the path "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates" which it thinks is not
available, when it is (as its exempted from being roaming using the registry value/GPO). Moreover, when the user is disconnected from the network, they can't click Modify and change the path, it simply doesn't do anything when you click Modify on
the screen to change the path to the template file.
We are considering ditching the roaming profiles, especially because the machines are now travelling outside the network. Or creating a special folder in all those machines where we can put a copy of the normal.dot. This is only affecting about 100 such
users, other users who have local profiles on the machines are fine.
    Cheers,
    Ramu

  • Zen 6.5 Imaging and Sysprep

Quick question. When imaging workstations via multicasting with Zen 6.5 is
it necessary to sysprep the source box before creating the image or does
Zen eliminate the need through its own process?
    Regards,
    Patrick Freeman

Hi, I am also wondering about SID generation with Zenworks. There is an
option in the ZisWin utility to clear a computer's SID in the Image-Safe
data, so I'm wondering if clearing this SID setting just before capturing
an image from the computer would result in a new SID being generated when
another computer received the "SID cleared" image.
    Thanks, Mike

  • Need assistance creating applications with superseedence to uninstall Office 2010, Lync 2010 and then install Office 365 click to run 2013

We are getting ready in a few months to uninstall our locally installed Office 2010 and head to the cloud with Office 365 2013. I have created applications to uninstall Office 2010 and Lync 2010 and then added them to the supersedence tab for Office 365
office 2013 click to run with appv5.
When deploying the office 365 2013 application it does not uninstall office 2010 or lync 2010 with the supersedence.  I am able to manually uninstall Office 2010 and Lync 2010 with the command lines I am using in the applications.
The application uninstall for Office 2010 is:
The application uninstall is an exe so I created an application, created a deployment type with the location of our Office 2010 admin point, installation program and uninstall program are set with the same line as I have tried to deploy it separately and
also as a supersedence in the Office 365 application setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config "\\sccmserver\share\Office2010\ProPlus.ww\silentuninstallconfig.xml.  The silentuninstallconfig.xml was created from the original config.xml file and edited
    to these settings:<Configuration Product="ProPlus">
     <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="NO" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
     <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="Never" />
     <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="NEVER" />
     <OptionState Id="ProductFiles" State="Local" Children="force" />
     </Configuration>
The detection method is the folder path to see that office 14 exists.  When I deploy this the machines finish with success showing this exists, but does not uninstall Office 2010.
running the command line manually mapped to this location on a machine uninstalls office 2010 without issue.
    Lync 2010 uninstall:
Lync is an exe so I am using the LyncSetup.exe /silent /uninstall.  The application is in the supersedence tab for Office 365 2013. This never installs.  If I create a softare distribution and deploy it on its own it uninstalls without issue.
We are going to use Lync 2013 with our office 365 2013 installation so we need to uninstall this.  The detection method for lync is file system folder and the Microsoft lync folder for detection.
MS Office 15 (Office 365) was created with the click to run tool.  I can install this with the application I created using the appv5 package created with the click to run tool.  The issue is we need Office 2010 and Lync 2010 uninstalled first.
Having both versions of Office installed in test has caused issues where Office 15 365 will not list in add and remove programs and cannot be uninstalled even with the fix it article to remove office 2013.
I have looked at many articles and so far it is not working for us.  Any help appreciated to get us to the cloud.
    Thanks,
    Brit

The applications I have for uninstall of office 2010 and Lync 2010 for some reason do not uninstall. Manually testing the command lines they do.  The detection method seems to be hanging things up.  On the lync uninstall detection method I have
the setting type of file system, type folder, path c:\program files\ folder name Microsoft Lync.
I highly recommend using something other than a file/folder "exists" detection method. Installers are constantly leaving things behind due to environmental inconsistencies. It may leave files/folders behind with a schedule to delete files on next reboot.
These things are unpredictable and very hard to use. I just use the "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" Registry location. There you can actually key off the "Product Version" DWORD as well which gives you an even more accurate method
to determine if the application you are trying to deploy (or expect to exist) is truly there. This, of course, being if you are not using an MSI. If you have MSI technology ALWAYS use the product code unless the person writing the MSI chooses to use the same
product code for every version release of their product. In which case, Use the registry method.
As far as getting the supersedence and everything working. You need to start from the basics. Create Applications for all of the apps you want to remove. Make sure they install and uninstall properly (seems like overkill but it isn't that hard). Once you
have working install/uninstall applications then you can easily apply supersedence to your new applications with a setting of Uninstall on the superseded apps you should have no problem getting rid of them. I have done this for numerous things.
For example, I did this with Cisco Jabber to replace older versions of jabber, older versions of cisco unified personal communicator and lync and OSC. All of these replaced versions had to have an Application but once it was in it took two seconds to apply
all the supersedence rules and now I know when I push that software out no matter version is running on any machine it will pull all the old apps off and put the new one on.

  • Essbase Excel Addin on 64 Bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Office 2010

    Hi Everyone,
I have installed 11.1.2.2 on server with Essbase and Shared Services.
Now, on the client I have 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit office 2010.
I tried installing Excel Addin client only (without Essbase client) and restarted machine after install.
After install Addin didnt come up automatically and i tried to manually set the add-in, I'm getting an error "This is not a valid add-in"
Is it because i am using 64 bit of office and have to go back to 32 bit.
Isnt 64 bit supported for latest 11.1.2.2 Essbase ?
Any ideas or experience in this regard will be helpful to me as our company is going for Windows 7 and Office 2010 across the business users and if 64 bit Office is not supported or has issues i would have to suggest them to go with 32 bit Office 2010.

  • Visio 2013 and Office 2010 Professional Plus

I am using KMS.  Both Office 2010 and Office 2013 keys are installed on the KMS server.  On a Windows 7 system, Office 2010 Professional Plus in installed and activated.  Visio 2013 Professional is also installed, but it is not activated.
I see hits in the event log for activation requests, furthermore slmgr.vs /dlv all shows a 4 count for Office 15, KMSHostVL edition.  This is probably correct, we haven't deployed Office 2013 or many Visio 2013 apps.  The problem is every time I
open Access 2010, the Office installer runs.  This does not happen for Word, Excel or Outlook.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem or how to troubleshoot it?
I tried running the VA client diagnostic tool, but it said Office was activated.  I am sure in looked at my 2010 Pro and not the 2013 Visio.
    Thanks

when you have a combination of Office products installed upon a single machine, (even sometimes with a single product installed), the Office applications can sometimes suffer a repair/re-registration sequence upon application launch.
This can happen in non-KMS scenarios, and, is usually caused by missing registry keys or a damaged installation.
It can also be caused by updating/patching one of the Office products, since updating/patching will sometimes cause the registry entries to be re-written, which can "toggle" the registered default application.
This is one of several reasons why MS recommend against having multiple versions of Office installed upon a machine.
Try a repair of Office2010, to see if that will correct the registration of Access2010. If successful, then check Visio2013 is still launching ok. Then check Access one more time (to see if launching Visio has disrupted Access again).

  • PDF Maker Issue - can't find add-in in adobe folder, doesn't work in MS Office 2010.

    Hi Guys,
Since last few years I've been using Adobe Acrobat Reader (IX, X, XI) on my Sony Vaio.
It was integrated with MS Office 2010 and worked perfect with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Last week I had serious isues with my notebook and had to do a clean instalation of Windows 7 64-bit.
I installed all software back (Eset Endpoint Antivirus 5, MS Office 2010 32-bit, etc.) and at the end, yesterday
I finally installed Adobe Acrobat Reader XI (free). Then I noticed with dissapointment that there is no Adobe ribbon.
I did everything mentioned here PDFMaker unavailable | Office 2007, Office 2010 | Acrobat 9, Acrobat X, Acrobat XI
including instalation in a simplified mode, but it doesn't work for me.
The path mentioned in above link doesn't exist in my computer "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat [9.0 or 10.0]\PDFMaker\Office".
I can find only: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader"   - a path to AR app. There is no PDFMaker folder at all.
And another path: "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Replicate" - Replicate is the only folder under "11.0".
Do You have any idea what I could do to instal PDFMaker module , and use it with MS Office 2010?
    Sorry for my poor English.
I'll be very gratefull for help.

If you have all of those Adobe Reader products on your system, you are asking for problems. Adobe states one should not have more than one copy of an application on their system.
Reader has no plug-in for MS Office of any version.
Only Acrobat has a plug-in for MS Office. Again Adobe does not approve of more than one copy of Acrobat on a system. And if you dare to have Reader on the same system then Acrobat and Reader should be at the same major version.

  • Is it possible to activate Microsoft Office 2010 with the answer file?

    Hello
I'm not sure if this is possible but I have a volume product Key for Microsoft Office 2010 and I am currently working on an image that would activate Office 2010. Is that possible and how would I put that in the answer file? Everything I see on product key
activation just goes to activating for Operating systems on the image. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, it's completely possible, but there are some specific steps you must perform, to avoid issues in the deployed computers.
This is because the Windows sysprep providers don't include a provider for Office (which means that Office doesn't get generalized by sysprep).
You must also take care *not* to execute any Office applications/components *after* running ospprearm.exe (because that will cause the Office components to indivuate, which un-does the effects of ospprearm.exe)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178964(v=office.14).aspx
    Preparing the reference computer
To prepare the reference computer for imaging, follow these steps:
•Install Windows 7 Enterprise Volume Licensed version from DVD media.
    •Enable the local Administrator account.
•Delete the temporary user account and profile.
•Install Office Professional Plus 2010 from the network installation point.
•Rearm the Office Professional Plus 2010 installation.
    •Generalize the installation.
Also, some people find it useful to insert a specific Office activation command as a last step in the deployment. This is because Office setup will by itself only attempt automatic activation one time and will not retry. This can lead to unactivated installations,
warnings to the user, and helpdesk calls to you.e.g.:
    'cscript.exe "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\ospp.vbs" /act'
This is not really an issue if you are using KMS, it's more of an issue when using MAK.

    Max -
No offense intended, but while I agree that this could be the case, your answer is for XP and I find it lacking a good solution with a rather bland explanation.
I'm seeing this problem with Windows 7, but we are not using a KMS, however the OPPSVC does run rather frequently, as seen in the Event Logs.
When opening Word documents in Office 2010, the computer will "hang" and applications show the "Not Responding" message for several minutes before returning, if at all. It will not happen every time the application is opened, and happens regardless of whether
or not Word is already open at the time the document is opened. It almost seems as though the Office Platform Protection Service is the CAUSE of the problem, and when looking at the process in SysInternals Process Explorer, I don't see anything out of the
ordinary that would explain why the system resources are being tied up by that service, although I admit I have not been able to capture the problem when it's occurring because it happens pretty randomly.
I'm less convinced that there is a third-party software causing the problem and more convinced that if the OPPSVC is already running, and you happen to open a document at the exact same time that the service fires off to do it's check, it enters a minor
race condition of some kind and either never responds, or takes a long time to resolve/timeout.
This issue is having a major impact during sales demonstrations that my organization does because it causes the entire demonstration to pause or crash and is totally unacceptable. All of our licenses are in order and I can't shut off the OPPSVC to verify
if it's causing the problem because Word will not start if the service is disabled.
A better solution would be much appreciated.

  • Is Lync 2013 perfectly compatible with Office 2010?

Microsoft Office 2010 and Lync 2013 are two diferrent instances, but they use some common elements.
In our company we have over a hundred MS Office 2010 licences and we dont need/afford to change them all to 2013. Now we want to install Lync 2013 and I wonder if there could be compatibility issues or, if Lync 2013 can modifiy the common files they use,
so that certain functions in Office 2010 will not be available or not work properly.
Is there a risk of this happening or they can work together "in complete harmony"? This is very important to me and I cannot afford to make a mistake. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Hi Cristi,
Checkout these Lyncs on compatibility and interoperability:
    Lync 2013 Compatibility http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412817.aspx
    Client Interoperability http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204672.aspx
As far as having Lync 2013 & Office 2010 on the same PC, largely it SHOULD be ok and I've not had many issues. The exception to this was on a recent Citrix deployment, where for some reason running Lync 2013 was causing the Office 2010 instance to rerun
everytime it was started. All desktops were ok though.
My suggestion is to make sure you thoroughly test with every scenario that you can think of before rolling out to the masses.

Also tried speaking to Microsoft, was less then amusing. Being bounced back and forth to finally be told to log it through support.microsoft.com/oas , which turns out you need to specify a contract number or credit card etc. I don't have any Microsoft support
agreement, just looking for a little assist!! I was able to sort out the deployment of windows by resetting the rearm count surely its possible for office!!
Failing the option to rearm office. If there was a way to remove its CMID, this would work for me as well.

o.O I might have figured this out. I've managed to get another CMID generated with a bit of messign around. Just doing a full test to ensure multiple VDI's get diff CMID's then ill edit this post with details *fingers crossed
Ok managed to resolve this not only does this get the CMID sorted but the rearm count too!!
I've not done full testing of each step but this is exactly what I did and it works
    1. Kbfix it ran to uninstall office 2010
    2. Delete the HKLM\software\Microsoft\office & HKLM\software\Microsoft\officesoftwareprotectionplatform (had to mess about with permissions to do this). This is the main point, something in one of these registry keys must hold both CMID and rearm count.
    Nothing obvious thou.
    3. Reboot and then reinstall office
    4. run ospprearm and windows rearm. (office rearm was required for me as I tested this after step 3 to check new CMID was created first). NOTE CMID for office is generated on starting office or anything office related (including ospp.vbs to check CMID).
If you didn't do this , just windows rearm is required.
If like me you are using Xendesktop and this is a golden image, this is point where you want to power it down, snapshot it and then provide this snapshot to the virtual PC's so they pick up unique CMID's for both windows and office on next boot up :D

  • Question on Office 2010 rearm

    Hello
I have always deployed Office 2010 in our base Image with MAK key and rearmed Office before capture. We are now moving to a KMS server. I have now
configured our Office 2010 install to use a KMS key in our base image. Do I still need to rearm like I did with the MAK before capture? The second part of the question we are using MDT 2013 and I did find this in the LTISysprep.wsf line 146 to 168 a command
to Rearm Office 2010 if it is present. Does this work?
    Thanks

  • Office 2010 DDE not being added to registry

I have captured and done a test deployment of Office 2010 with SP1, everything works fine, activation (KMS using app-v toolkit), all the apps launch, the icons are all there, but...
There is one application that is used that doesn't pick up the fact that Excel and Word are installed. The application is SIMS .Net (An education MIS system by Capita)
Looking at the file type settings, .xls files are associated with the spoon-launcher app. Delving into the registry though, there are no DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) commands listed for any of the Office 2010 apps. I have compared this with the ThinApp version of Office 2010 that we previously used and that does include the DDE settings in the registry and enables SIMS .Net to work fine. There is only a single command listed, which points at the spoon-launcher.
Looking at the capture for Office 2010 all the DDE commands for each file-type have been captured correctly. Registry values have been added to HKCU and HKLM. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no entries added though, they exist on the actual snapshotting PC though.
When using spoonreg I have been doing
    spoonreg /allusers /cache Office-2010.exe
Windows XP + SP3 (with windows updates) no other apps installed
    ZAV 9

My guess is your going to have to add a "ProgID" under the MSI Setup section of ZAV. That is where I'd be exploring. What ProgID and extension combination needs setup. As noted in my other post...
    http://forums.novell.com/novell/nove...ssociates.html
I had to include a ProgID that was in the captured registry information but wasn't being automatically brought into the MSI Setup section for Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
Also about the classes root being blank. You probably want to look at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\. That is the same thing as Classes Root and ZAV just knows not to pull both of them in because that would just be duplicates. It shows as "Local machine root\SOFTWARE\Classes\" in ZAV. You can dig around in there to see if there are ProgIDs that were captured with the install but that need manually added to the MSI Setup area.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • How do I relink multiple instances of the same image, in Illustrator CC?

Is there a feature, like InDesign, where links automatically relink if they're in the same folder?
Currently I have to search through the file structure multiple times even if the linked image is the same.
Surely Illustrator should relink all instances of the same image and give the option search for any additional missing links in the same folder?
I'd love to be pointed in the right direction, or if anyone has a script they've written to solve the problem, do let me know.
    Cheers

try the script (version 3) in this post,
Remember last folder location lost with Mac Lion updates
