Windows 7 64-bit SP1 failure to install

I tried to install Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (SP1). Everything appeared to have gone well until the system rebooted and when applyting the updates (Applying update operation nnn of 316581) I got this error:
Error C000009A applying update operation 115991 of 316581 (\Registry\...)
My system has updated all Microsoft update releases and scans (full scan) weekly without ever having had an error.
So now what?

I did hear from Microsoft this morning.
Their response is something like "Well, I don't know the answer to that problem, but let me tell you what I do know."
Floopy disk, anyone?
"Thank you for contacting Microsoft Windows 7 Email Technical Support. My name is Sai Teja, and I would be happy to assist you. For reference, here is your
service request number 1149719330.
From your description, I understand that you got an error after installing sp1.
I understand the inconvenience you have experienced.
Please be assured that we will do our best in assisting you with this issue. During the course of troubleshooting, if we find that the issue is with a Non-Microsoft
hardware or software, I would be guiding you to the right person who could assist you better on this matter.
Please follow these steps, and do contact us if you have any questions.
Step 1:-
Check in safe mode after disconnecting external devices.
In order to isolate the issue, let us start the computer in Safe Mode and check if system boots fine.
Note: Safe mode loads only minimum drivers and services. As network adapters do not work, you will not be able to access Internet in this
mode. Also, display appears bigger as display adapters are disabled.
Steps to boot the computer in Safe Mode:
1)   Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer by pressing power button. Also,
disconnect all external devices.
2)    Do one of the following:
a)  If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press
F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
b)  If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in
safe mode, and then press F8.
3)    On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the Safe Mode option you want, and then press
Enter.
4)    Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
If issue persists, please proceed with Step 4. If you are able to boot into safe mode, please follow the steps listed below:
Step A: Perform clean boot.
Clean boot:
To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
Note: If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.
We strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to modify the advanced boot options on the computer unless a
Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable.
1.  Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
2.  Click Start, type “msconfig.exe” (type without quotes) in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the
System Configuration Utility.
3.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
4.  On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini
check box is unavailable.) 5.  On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Note: Following these steps lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error
Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
Click OK, and then click Restart.
Try to check if you can boot in normal mode.
If it works fine, it means the non MS Program is interrupting. To find which program is causing this issue, execute Action 1 to Action
6 to find which application is causing the issue and uninstall it.
Action 1: Enable half of the services.
Action 2: Determine whether the problem returns.
Action 3: Enable half of the Startup items.
Action 4: Determine whether the problem returns.
Action 5: Resolve the problem.
Action 6: Reset the computer to start as usual.
After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
How to set your computer back to boot normal:
1.  Click Start type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
3.  On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
4.  When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.
Please look at this link for more information
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If you still find difficulty in booting into normal mode, please proceed with Step B.
Step B: Perform Hardware Clean boot.
Hardware clean boot is a troubleshooting technique that allows you to get the computer up and running with minimal hardware (disabling
Display adapter, network adapter and sound card devices) so that you can perform diagnostic tests to determine which hardware of the normal boot process are causing problems.
1.      Click on “Start button”.
2.      Right click on “Computer” menu and choose “Properties”.
3.      Click on “Device manager” option in the left pane.
4.      Right Click on Sound Card, modem, Network Adapter, Display Adapter, CD/DVD drive and click disable. (If
you are playing game online, please do not disable network adapter)
5.      Restart the computer and check for the issue.
6.      Then enable the drive one by one to determine which is causing the issue.
7.      Once you found the device which is causing the issue, please uninstall and reinstall the driver for the
device and check for the issue.
Note: It is always recommended to install driver from the computer manufacturer website. Please download and install the driver from the
manufacturer Website.
Microsoft doesn’t recommend you to leave the computer in Hardware clean boot mode. So, please set your computer to normal boot mode
after performing the troubleshooting steps by enabling all the devices.
How to set your computer back to boot normal:
1. Click on “Start button”.
2. Right click on “Computer” menu and choose “Properties”.
3. Click on “Device manager” option in the left pane.
4. Right Click on Sound Card, modem, Network Adapter, Display Adapter, CD/DVD drive and click Enable.
Step 4: Try last known good configuration.
The Last Known Good Configuration feature is a recovery option that you can use to start your computer by using the most recent settings
that worked. The Last Known Good Configuration feature restores registry information and driver settings that were in effect the last time the computer started successfully.
Steps to boot the computer in Last known good configuration:
1)  Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer by pressing power button.
3)    On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the Last Known Good Configuration option you
want, and then press Enter.
I eagerly await your response after you complete the trouble shooting steps.
Please reply to us with the status of the issue after performing these steps. If the issue was resolved, please let us know the steps (Step1, Step2,
etc...) that resolved the issue. If the issue remains unresolved and if any error message pops-up while performing the above steps, please

Ipod is detected as USB Mass Storage device under Device Manager and as IPOD under the category Unspecified device in Device and Printers. It does not get detected in Itunes and also does not show up in my computer. I have un-installed Itunes and all apple software and drivers and re-installed it, un-installed the USB Mass Storage device but nothing is working. Few things I have noticed is that when I connect the IPOD and perform a scan hardware changes in device manager, the process goes on for ages. Upon, unintalling the USB Mass storage and rebooting the system, when I connect the IPOD, the computer tries to install the driver after a while it gives a message, driver installation failed.
I have connected my IPOD to all USB ports on my motherboard but the problem remains the same. Also, when the IPOD is connected and I perform a shutdown, the computer stays on the message shutdown unless I remove the IPOD. When I right click and select Eject IPOD, the IPOD is not ejected and upon removing the IPOD I get a message that Windows could not eject due to some problem using the IPOD but nothing was running on my system.

This is a Microsoft Windows Issue.
    From a MS Support Engineer:
    "Hi,
    ·        Is the computer on a domain?
    ·        Is the issue isolated to only this software or you get the same error message with other software’s as well?
Try the steps below and check if it helps.
    Step 1:
Run the software setup file as an administrator and check if it helps.
    a. Right click on the setup file of the software that you are trying to install.
    b. Select “Run as administrator”.
    Step 2:
Temporarily disable the antivirus software running on the computer and check if you are able to install the software.
    Disable antivirus software
    Warning:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
    Step 3:
    a. Click Start, type "Local Security Policy" (without quotes) and press enter.
    b. Click on Software Restriction Policies.
    c. In the right pane, double click on the "enforcement".

  • No Protection Tools! I have enabled enhanced security. This is Acrobat XI on Windows 7 64-bit. Did same install on a Win8 server and it's fine.

I just want the protection tools to show on the Tools dropdown! So I can use them...

    Hi Sara,
Thanks for putting me in the right place. I'm not much of an
    online-community person!
Here's what happened after your email:
    1. I went into Acrobat and clicked the down arrow as you described. I
previously had been clicking in the View menu. I saw the Protection
tools and I was so excited.
    2. So then I clicked on "allow multiple panels open" whereupon the
Protection tools disappeared! They did not reappear when I unclicked the
    "allow multiple panels open".
    3. Remembered that I hadn't reinstalled the updates after reinstalling
Acrobat in hopes that would fix this problem, so I installed the
    updates. I'm now on 11.0.07.
Sadly, still no protection tools appearing in either the View-> Toolsets
or the down-arrow in the upper-right corners of the Tools panel. Bummer.
This is so strange, since the same installation worked great on our Win8
    server!

  • Parrallels/ VMWare with Windows 7 64 bit from Free Source (Installing)

I am still a rather new Mac user and making the transition from Windows.  Unfortunately, there are numerous, small programs that I am still relying on that is virtually only compatable with Windows (using wineskin seems unstable for these programs).  So, instead of letting go of Windows completely, I'd like to get Windows on my Mac (which was a huge selling point for me when I got my Mac).  I have attempted to install Windows XP Pro using the latest version of VMWare - this was unsuccessful for some reason.  I have decided to make a second attempt at installing Windows using either Parrallels or VMWare, however this time using Windows 7 64 bit Full Version.  The only hold up in following through is obtaining the Windows 7 software.  Looking into getting the best price I have found plenty of websites offering ISO downloads for Windows 7.  Unfortunately, the official Microsoft website does not sell Windows 7 any longer.  Thus before taking the dive into buying the software from a source like Staples, OfficeMax, or any other place, I am wondering how legit these websites are (please see the websites below).  In no way am I trying to be cheap, however, if this is something that is legit, I thought "why not".  The attention grabber for looking into these websites (website #3) was the explanation of the Service Package 1 files not being included on the software disc when purchased.  Whether this would make a difference or not when installing Windows 7 on my Mac or not, I would not know.

    http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/25105-windows_7_home_premium_sp1_64-bit
    So my questions...
Would the downloads on these websites be a legit way of obtaining Windows 7 and getting it to work on my Mac?
Would obtaining and purchasing a software disc be the best?
Lastly... what should I look out for when purchasing Windows 7 software to avoid any pitfalls?
Finally, I am using a Mac Book Pro, purchased brand new from Apple in May 2012 - I have no exact clue of any of its specs.
P.S.  I read through plenty of questions of the forum and have found not very many questions covering this issue.
To any who can address the questions here on this post, I thank you for your time and assistance in advance.

Actually, see this website for the explanation of the SP1 files:

  • ITunes10.5.2  and MS Office Home and Business 2010 (running on MS Windows 7 32-bit SP1): can you help me please?

I've a PC running W7 32-bit SP1 and Office Home and Business 2010. The issue is that iTunes last version (10.5.2) doesn't work with Outlook 2010 and vice versa. With iTunes installed Outlook 2010 doesn't open itself.
No error message, but the program doesn't open.
I tried the restore, but nothing even so.
Either-or: or iTunes or Outlook. It's not possible. This is a seriou bug
I've really tried  all suggestions found in this bolg, but in vain.
Can someone from Apple help me to fix this bug please?

Hi guys, thanks for your responses.
What is this vboxnetflt for? Which modules are the essential modules for virtualbox? What I mean is: do those nice features like mouse point integration, full screen supportment etc... rely on vboxnetflt and vboxnetadp?
What I have in my configuration file is:
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(vboxdrv vboxnetflt vboxnetadp)
I think vboxnetadp is used for networkiing. and vboxnetflt sounds like network filtering stuff. Can someone please confirm me? I think the problem was the sequence of upgrading. Firstly it updated the kernel and then installed the new version of virtualbox. I think if it could install the new version of virtualbox first and then the kernel, it would go without any problem, just my opinion as I said.
Let's keep tracked on this. Maybe someone will find a solution before virtualbox developers :-)

My HP Pavilion p7-1297cb pc which is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS will not install any HP print drivers. All my windows updates are current, HP print and scan doctor did not fix it, I also tried MS fix it manager and did not work.  When I try to use my HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus installation CD or HP's download center, software almost installs, but says print drivers will not install.  Also, I tried using USB connection and windows tries to install software, but does not work.  Same for HP print driver support.   I tried installing 3 different HP printers I had and all had the same issue. Any ideas on why my system will not allow any print drivers to install?

  • Windows 7 64 bit machine with printer installed locally takes 2-3 minutes for printing most of the time and fails to print some time.

Our customer  have 3-4 windows machines in local area network (No Domain Login) with different OS versions and platform architecture (32 / 64 bit)
I have no idea about the configuration of  machine to which printer is hooked up but it is running Windows for sure.
This machine is accessible from any other machine in LAN. They have another machine running Windows 7 64 bit OS  on which they have installed the printer connected to earlier machine  using local printer driver installation
with local TCP/IP port being selected during installation. Installation goes well,  printer gets installed successfully and  shows ready state. but when we try to print anything on it takes 2-3 minutes to complete print job. They have tried
this on printers with couple of different model and make but the result is same delayed printing. They have also tried to install different printer drivers like HP printer model specific driver and HP universal driver too , but the result is
the same in all cases. earlier when they were using  32 bit XP machine with printer installed same way that they installed now for win 7 64 , there was no issue seen with regards delayed printing. is this a issue with windows  7 64
bit printing system ? or it has to do something with mixed and matched (32/64 bit )printer drivers running on different machines on LAN ?
I will try to get more information with regards to the machine to which printer is connected. In the mean please revert back to me if any one had face similar issue and able to resolve it successfully.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
Have you tried ping ip address of printer? and check if there exists any data lost in network connection. If your network connection is crowded, it can cause delay for printer.
Also, please attempt to disable all security software temporarily, such as antivirus, firewalls, etc and
    clear all printer cache.
Locate to task manager, check the state of spoolsv.exe, including cpu and memory. If it has high cpu or memory usage, it may be caused by malware. Thus, you'd better to make a full scan with the latest anti-virus.

  • Windows 7 64-bit and need to install both 32bit and 64bit Oracle 11g client

    Hello
First I am sorry for asking what is probably a common knowledge answer from most in the forum. I just cannot find a straight forward answer searching these forums or via google.
We have Windows 7 64-bit planned as our next desktop upgrade. We have several Oracle databases, and all of the client software in our environment is 32 bit.
I want to try and be ahead of the curve so I want to deploy the latest 64-bit 11g client instead of our current client (10g 32bit).
The simple question is this: Can we actually do that with our 32bit application suite or do I need to install the 32bit client for 32bit applications side-by-side with the 64bit 11g Oracle client for future 64-bit clients?
For a follow up to that, if I do, then does anyone have good instructions on that? I found one article on this but it seemed custom and made use of the mklink command, so I have my doubts this is correct.
    Thanks

Thanks for the tip. What I wonder though is should I do that or does the 64-bit client have a 32-bit layer that works with 32-bit applications or, am I forced to still deploy a 32-bit client because of my 32-bit software?
    Thanks

  • Windows 7 64-bit - how do I install Photoshop CC 64-bit, because the 32 bit version was installed automatically?

I am running window 7 64-bit and the version of photoshop that CC installed is 32-bit. I want to install a 64-bit version of photoshop so that I can access all of my RAM (I keep getting error messages). Apparently CC should install the correct version for the operating system automatically ...

    Thanks for the reply.
I just re-opened Photoshop after it crashed and now it is a 64-bit version and in preferences I can now see all of my RAM. That sounds odd but I checked Help/About Photoshop and earlier it was x32 and now it says x64. Fairly sure I'm not going mad.
I think I need to re-phrase my question.
