Windows 7 and Nokia 920

I have had my Nokia 920 since November and am generally very happy with the phone, except for one small detail.  I can only access the files on the phone if the battery is at 100%.  If the battery needs any charging when I plug the phone into my computer then the computer attempts to charge the phone instead of browsing the files.  This is a terrible feature and there should be an option to determine the expected behaviour of the phone when connected to a PC, either charging, or mass storage device/MTP mode.  I do not charge my phone with a PC as the phone requires much more power than the PC can provide it, so it should not bother trying and just let me look at the files.  The current behaviour is as follows:
1. Plug in phone
2. See files in explorer
3. Phone disappears from explorer and the charge icon is displayed on the phone
4. Phone shows back up in explorer
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 about ten times before phone is gone in explorer completely.
Any ideas or help on this subject would be appreciated.

This sounds like more of an issue with your computer or USB ports than a phone issue. I can connect my 920 to my Windows 7 PC at any battery level to browse or transfer media.
Have you checked that the USB drivers for your PC are fully up to date? Also it may be worth trying a different USB cable.

  • Nokia 920 Bluetooth and SMS Speech

I have a Nokia 920 and I recently changed from a Toyota RAV4 to a VW Golf 2013 MK7 TSI 90 Comfortline in Australia on Telstra.
Previously, when paired with my RAV4 whenever I got incoming SMS text it would announce text from the phone contact and offer the option to 'Read it', 'Reply' using voice commands.
I've paired it to my VW Golf but it no longer announces SMS text or give me voice command options.  Is this a bluetooth compatibility issue; is there any option to upgrade or modify settings to enable this feature?
    Richard

Hi, when i refer to voice commands I was specifically referring to scenario:
    1. SMS text arrives
    2. Announcement is made of new text - with option to 'Read it', 'Reply', 'Send'
-- I was referring to the above options as it relates to voice commands back.
    3. Voice commands via holding the Windows Logo on phone - this works fine.

Uninstall Ovi and re-download from Nokia web. Reinstalled Ovi Suite but that didn't work.
I then uninstalled all Ovi and all Nokia related software, cleaned Registry and reinstall Ovi Suite: Failed to fix.
Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize.

    How to solve this problem?

    LOL
I just tried Nokia Ovi Suite again to copy the full error report that it sends to Microsoft.... lo and behold it started to work again?????

Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize with Nokia PC Suite.
Made a complete backup on my phone.
Installed Nokia Software Updater and I reinstall the latest FW 51.0.006 to my phone.
Then I organized my content for a few minutes.
Shut down Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater.
    Started up Nokia Ovi Suite.

  • Ovi suite and nokia c5-03

I have tried continually today to get my phone to be recognised by ovi suite.
It see's the phone model when adding a new device, but when i click on the phone, it comes up with the phone is not in ovi suite mode????
What the heck, its the only mode available apart from mass storage etc.
It IS in ovi suite mode, I have done this several times, unplugged the phone from the USB cable and replugged it in. restarted ovi suite. restarted the computer, all to no avail.
Cannot even use pc suite, which is the program i actually prefer to use. PC suite recognises i have the c5 connected but wont allow me to do anything either
Please please help i need to back up and put stuff on the phone that i had saved from my old phone (old phone lost somewhere on the motorway so cannot sync that way)

    Hi,
Can you try the suggestions below?
-Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (called Programs
and Features in Microsoft Windows 7).
Select Nokia Ovi Suite in the list of applications and click
    Change/Remove.
In the dialog that appears, choose Repair.
    - Click Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and repair
-Try creating the connection between your phone and computer
totally from scratch. Start by disconnecting your phone. In
Nokia Ovi Suite, select Tools > Options > My devices. Select
your phone at the top of the window and click Remove this
    device.
Then, select Tools > Add new device, and follow the
    instructions to reconnect the phone.
If this doesn't solve the problem,
-Uninstall the following programs withAdd/Remove Programs in
Control Panel (called Programs and Features in Microsoft
    Windows 7):
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Then, download and install the latest version of Nokia Ovi
    I hope this helps.

I have a new windows phone Nokia lumia 530. In trying to set it up I accidentally put a typo in my email address.I have done a use a different address as your primary alias, yesterday by making a new outlook account. However, I can't get the security code.

    HELP!

    Hi,
This is the incorrect forum however I have had this issue myself
The issue is based on the Microsoft live account verification, if you created a new Microsoft Live account while registering the phone or registering for a new store account you will need to log into the windows live website with the same credentials and
    verify/validate the account.
Once done, power off the device completely, then power it back on and you should be good to go :)
    Regards,

  • 6280, 6230 and Nokia PC Suite - no calendat sync

I am using version 6.81.13.0 of PC Suite on a late-model Dell 9300 notebook. I connect using a Nokia CA-53 USB cable supplied with my 6280 phone. The PC is running Windows XP Professional SP2 with all available Microsoft patches.
Until recently, I was using a Nokia 6230 phone and an older version of PC Suite. The calendar was sent from the PC to the phone with no problem at all, and I could always refer to my phone to check my calendar. This connection used Bluetooth.
When my new 6280 arrived, I loaded the PC Suite software from the 6280 CD. The software immediately demanded an update from the Nokia website, which I downloaded and installed. After a couple of successful bluetooth connections, suddenly neither phone would sync with Outlook.
Very soon after that, no Bluetooth connection would work at all, and I resorted to the USB cable. With the USB cable, the phones communicate with the Sync software, but no data is sent to either phone. I have removed the software, used the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner, reinstalled, created new profiles and tried every single option, but the system simply will not sync.
Can anyone help? By upgrading my phone, I have lost my sync facility altogether.
Here's the system info from PC Suite:
    Operating system:
    Microsoft Windows XP
    Build 2600
    Service Pack 2
    Language: English (United States)
Language for non-Unicode programs: English (United States)
    Locale: English (United Kingdom)
    Input language: English (United Kingdom)
    Nokia PC Suite:
    Version 6.81.13.0
    Language: English
    Connectivity Cable Drivers:
    Version 6.81.1.2
    Microsoft Outlook:
    Version 11.0
    Build 8010
    Bluetooth stacks:
    Microsoft Bluetooth stack
    Version 5.1.2600.2180
    WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack
    Version 4.0.1
    Build 2401

The difficulties people with XP SP 2 (with Microsoft Bluetooth) and any other Bluetooth(like Widcomm) are having, is really sad.
YOu can try to run arepair to PC Suite and Nokia Connecitivty solution from add/remove programs and see if that helps.
Also check that is the Bluetooth software you are using (I cannot tell by looking at your list), is working with the phone.
    Last resort:
I can only suggest that you start from scrach, uninstall the widcomm, Pc Suite and Connectivity solution, run Pc suite cleaner and reinstall PC Suite(includes the connectivity solution).

  • No whatsapp in app store? (Nokia 920, UAE)

Just bought Nokia 920, in Dubai and noticed no whatsapp in App Store. Went to Whatsapp's site and clicked on DOWNLOAD. It took me to the App Store with whatsapp but it says no download available
    What's the issue here?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Lately it seems that WhatsApp is having a succession of updates and fixes making its availability unreliable at best.
As the Microsoft Store is not under the control of Nokia and WhatsApp is not a Nokia Development I'd suggest you contact either the Store or WhatsApp support.

  • Slideshows which work for Mac, Windows AND ipads/iphones???

    Hi.
My first post here & just getting into mac after many decades of windows!!
After much searching around I have finally found a place (Yola) where I can design a website which is compatible with all browsers/mac/windows..hurray.
However, due to the type of work that I do I need to display 50 photos (before/after). I want to do this with a slideshow. I have made up around 8 from different sites but each time there's a compatibility problem with ipads or iphones (but no problem with mac/windows/nokia smartphone).
Is there a slideshow (FREE) which will work across all platforms? Is iphoto the only way - and will that work with windows and is there a free version.
Finally, the website design software uses 'widgets' to place code into the site for photos/slideshows etc etc.
Any help would really be appreciated!

PS Hope to be getting an ipad soon.

come on guys, someone here must play some games on their intel mac?
please help me make my mind up

  • Problem to synchronize C7-00 and Nokia Suite

    Hi,
I have a C7-00 for 18 months with no major problems.
I synchronized it with the MSOutlook on my PC through Nokia Ovi Suite - Calendar, Tasks, Messages, Photos with no problems.
Few days ago I got a message on my phone to install the new phone software, and I did it.
    Now I have a C7-00 with Symbian Anna 022.014.277.04 installed on 5 Dec 2011.
Many things are looking different than before.
And I also upgraded my Nokia Ovi Suite to latest Nokia Suite - version 3.2.100.
And the syncing stopped to work. I get a warning that some calendar tasks are not synced, but actually, no one is synced.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi PMar,
Welcome to the Nokia Discussions support forum! If syncing all other content works, but only calendar fails, then find these files from your pc:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANPST.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANOST.EXE
Right click with mouse and select "run".
you should take a back- up of the Outlook folders to avoid any loss of information.
You can also try to do manual sync and see if it works:
Select Sync > Sync option, and uncheck all automatic sync options.
Then select Sync > Sync now > Contact, Calendar& tasks, Messages or Notes one by one individually.
If the issue still persists, reinstall Nokia Suite. Go to add/remove application in Windows > Delete Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver, Nokia Suite and Nokia PC Connectivity Solution.
Then download the Nokia Suite from this link. Save to your pc, don't click "Run". Open the installer and follow the installation wizard.
Hope you get the sync working again!

  • Nokia 920 on Pay Mountly account does not work in Europe..again.

So this is the second holiday I have gone on with my Nokia 920 and its not worked in Europe.I've had phone and account for well over a year now.Am on a Pay monthly deal and activated the "Euro Talk & Text Booster"  before I left. Checking my account - it is still active. Would not work - again. Pretty dissapointed, and if it happens again I will consider my options when it comes to renewing my account.. Annoyingly my wife and son's Nokia 620 and iphone 4 respectively both worked with cheap'n'cheerful GiffGaff PAYG accounts, but not my Pay Monthly phone. In all countries an Automatic search found nothing. Manual search in any location (France, Italy, Gibraltar and Portugal) found networks, but when I selected any of them it would say they could not be connected, whereas the Giffgaff phones worked with any network they found. Any help appreciated. MD

Sorry I don't see that. I have already looked here. When I get into my account I don't have have "Devices and Usage" option to select.I have a "My Phone", which I have recnetly manually selected as  the Nokia 920, as it was blank. The menu on the left hand side of the dashboard is shown belowI should point out I am currently on a SIM only deal I beleive. and the phone was not purchased through EE/T-mobile.I got the discounted SIM only deal when I tried to leave EE over a year ago. • ISync 3.1.2 and Nokia X6

    Hi
I have an iMac running OSX 10.6.8 and I'm trying to Sync my Nokia X6 Smart Phone contacts etc to it using iSync 3.1.2, it locates it via Bluetooth and then says the Nokia X6 is not supported by iSync. Is my version the latest one, or is there a new one or anything else that I can try.
I have a virtual Windows 7 set up because there is some software that is only run on Windows and the software that I use for my business is one of them. I hate using Windows at the best of times. It's true that 'once you Mac, you dont go back' unless you have to reluctantly!
I could download the Nokia PC Suite to do all of this but, I want to do it on my Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

My installation went smoothly and everything is going fine!

  • Windows and Leopard??

When I use DVDFAB to create a movie for my Nokia N95 using Windows, will it save to a folder that is accessible from Leopard?? Do they share the same hard drive or is your hard drive split to the allotment you set for each?
In other words, can each operating system acccess files created by either one?
I get my mac in the mail tommorow and alreay purchased vmfusion, and xp! Was this an ok choice?
I am a newbie also, so hello everyone. I can not wait to dive into the mac world!

VM Fusion creates a pseudo-drive - sort of a disk image used by Windows when VM Fusion is running. You can implement file sharing between Windows and OS X through VM Fusion. Read the documentation carefully.
If you create a Boot Camp partition in which to install Windows, then in order to share files between each you will need to format the Boot Camp partition FAT32. Do not use NTFS because OS X can only read from an NTFS drive, it cannot write to one.

  • Cannot receive Viber calls on my Nokia 920 unless ...

Hi.  My friends asked me to get viber so they could call me from overseas.  Unless I have the program open, I cannot receive any calls.  I imagine this is an issue with push notifications?  I did not have this problem on the messaging-only version that was first out.  Eventually missed calls pop up (with time stamps in order!), but that makes it super inconvenient to use this app.  Even if I have the app open, it will time out with my screensaver (which I can control), but I cannot just disable the screensaver and even if I did, chances are I'm using the phone and thus not merely leaving viber open hoping for a phone call.  I have ATT.
The viber boards (thank you, Viber, for not allowing me to contact you directly about this), list the following on their website (http://helpme.viber.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/455/29/messagescalls-notification-issue):
    Messages/calls notification issue
In case you are not receiving messages/calls notifications or receiving them later
than expected, please follow the next steps:
    1. Open phone settings
    2. Go to WiFI.
    3. Tap on 'Advanced'.
    4. Mark 'keep WiFi on when screen times out' .
The problem with this is on my Nokia 920 phone, there is no "keep WiFi on when screen times out" selection.  Similarly, in the "background tasks" section of Settings, Viber isn't even listed (I cannot even selected "allowed" like I can for AccuWeather or Kayak).  HELP!
    Thank you.

This is a regional software issue and looks like ATT have crippled your phone as here is option:
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Problem With Ford Sync and Lumia 920

I have a Ford Flex with Sync by Microsoft and the Nav screen. I was able to have Sync read incoming text messages and reply with short ones with my Samsung Focus. After pairing my Lumia 920 I no longer can do this. The message I get is that "Texting is not supported by this phone via Bluetooth". It seems like Nokia either forgot to add this feature or there is a bug in the phone.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion.  My wife and I both have Lumina 920's.  We have no trouble pairing the phones to and incoming calls work fine.   When we try to make outgoing calls, SYNC puts us in Privacy mode automatically -- so we can't hear the phone ring or the party we are calling answer.  We can take the phone out of privacy mode by touching the Privacy mode on the SYNC screen -- but we shouldn't have to.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we fix this problem.  We try a master reset on the SYNC system and a soft reset on the phone.
Same issue here (and same vehicle, except 2012), it is very annoying.  My 900 I had before and One X+ do not have this issue.  My first 920 had the camera die, so I replaced it.  This issue was present on both phones.  This has just been tested and is still and issue after all of the latest updates from MS and Nokia.
So, 93tid, why don't you STFU with your all-knowing air about what is and is NOT fixed!
