Windows 7 laptop can't print to PSC 2410 attached to Windows XP desktop on home network

The subject line pretty much says it all.  I finally got the laptop to see the printer and went thru Windows update to find our printer model, but when I print a test page nothing happens.  I tried setting it up as a network printer but couldn't find a driver (which it required).  I finally went through the local printer option to get as far as I did with it.  I tried also getting on the XP desktop to add a printer driver for Windows 7 64 bit OS but that option isn't available...I was under the Sharing tab for the printer.
This is very frustrating because I had no problems setting up my Vista laptop.

Try the following: on the Windows 7 machine go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click on Windows Update and then select HP for the manufacturer and HP PSC 2400 series when the list refreshes.

  • Can not print PDF file at all with Windows Vista

I have Acrobat Reader 9.3.2.  I am working off of Windows Vista on my laptop to a network wireless printer (Brother MFC 9440).  I am unable to print pdf files.  About a week ago, we had problems with our printer printing anything.  I had to uninstall it and reinstalled it and it now works fine except the pdf files. I have had no problems printing any other files on any other programs but this one.  I am unsure what specific "updates" I ran while trying to figure out printers issue.  When in Reader, everything seems normal.  When I hit print, the printer box pops up as normal and then I hit ok, my printer icon at bottom pops up for about 5 secs and nothing happens.  I know that I am connected to printer due to all other programs can print.  I do not have access to another printer to see if pdf will print on another printer, but do know that the other two computers used in this office (mac laptop and mac desktop) both are able to print pdf files to this printer without a problem.  I have gone thru all the other help steps to try to resolve the situation:  it still will not print when I hit "print as image", made sure that my printer is marked as network and is default printer, made sure to check that I have all upgrades, etc.  I am not getting any error message, so am unsure what is wrong.  It just will not print.  Is there anyone that could give me some suggestions that I have not tried?  I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks!

Another user experience exactly the same issue with vista and printing from Adobe reader.

The problem was on my Auntys PC, and yes i did updated Adobe Reader to v9.3.2 and still the same issue underlned below.
My Aunty lives 70 miles away so will not be trying anything else.
The printer works fine with every other application only Adobe Reader files will print.

  • How Can I Print from my Microsoft Surface Running Windows 8 RT?

How Can I Print from my Microsoft Surface Running Windows 8 RT?
Most new wireless printers won’t have a problem printing from the Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 RT.  All you should have to do for these printers is tell them to print and they will.  Older wireless, Ethernet, and USB printers might not have an officially supported driver in Windows 8 RT, but there is a way to get the printers working.  There are different requirements depending on how the printer is being connected to the Surface.
Note:  All steps below are only for PhotoSmart, OfficeJet, DeskJet, and other HP Inkjet printers.  These steps are not for Laserjet printers or printers from other manufacturers.  These steps may not work for all Inkjet printers.  If these steps don’t work, try different drivers from the list until you find one that will work (you’ll understand what I mean once you follow the steps below).  If none of the drivers work, your printer will not work with the Surface.
For networked printers (wireless or Ethernet), all you need is either the Surface keyboard, or an external USB keyboard to connect to the Surface.  This just makes anything you have to type easier to type.  You will also need to have the Surface and the printer connected to the same network.
Starting from the right edge, swipe your finger left on the Surface screen to bring up the Charms bar.
    Touch Search.
Below the Search Box, touch Settings.
In the search Box, type Devices and Printers.
    Touch Devices and Printers.
    Touch Add a Printer.
Touch “My printer is not listed”.
Select the TCP/IP option and touch Next.
Enter the printer’s IP address and touch Next.  Note:  You can get this from the printer’s Network Configuration Page, or from your router’s DHCP list.
The Surface will locate the printer and try to install it.  The install will fail and the Surface will ask you what you want to do, search the internet for the driver, or manually install the driver.  Choose to install the driver yourself.
Touch “I want to choose from a list of drivers”.
If no drivers appear in the list, make sure the box next to “Show compatible drivers” is not checked.
Choose HP from the Manufacture list.
Choose DeskJet PCL 3 Class Driver from the Drivers list.  If that driver doesn't work, try using the Photosmart PCL3 driver, or the Officejet PCL 3 driver.  (Thank you JonW for letting me know about these other alternates. )
    Touch Next.
    Touch Finish.
    Test printing.
For USB connected printers, you will need a USB cord to attach the printer to the computer.
Connect the printer to the computer via USB.
Windows will try to find the drivers but will not be able to.
Here Windows may ask you if you want to choose the driver to install.  If it does skip to step 14 below.
Starting from the right edge, swipe your finger left on the Surface screen to bring up the Charms bar.
    Touch Search.
Under the Search box, touch Settings.
In the Search box, type Device Manager.
    Touch Device Manager.
Touch View and select Show Hidden.
Search for the printer in the Device Manager.  It should be under Other Devices with a yellow caution sign beside it.
Select the printer from the list.
    Touch Action.
Touch Update Driver, or Install whichever one it displays.
The Surface will ask you what you want to do, search the internet for the driver, or manually install the driver.

  • Windows laptops can't connect to Macbook Pro shared internet when WEP security is on

As the title states, my Windows laptops can't connect to Macbook Pro shared internet when WEP security is on.  My iPhone has no problem asking for the password when I try to access the shared internet my MacBook Pro on Mountain Lion is sending, but my Samsung Slate on Windows 8 sees the network and only succeeds in connecting when no password is required.  When security is on, it just tries for a moment and says it can't connect to the network without ever prompting me for the password.  The same thing occurs on my Asus Netbook running Windows XP.  Since all the reviews about OS X's internet sharing mentions "any wifi device" can access it, I haven't assumed it's only compatible with Apple products.  I want my MacBook Pro to save me from needing an external router.

I would post a new question, outline the specific problem you are having and skip all the extra. Outline any steps you have taken already to try and solve the problem. Post the question in the forum most likely to have followers who can answer your question. Give your topic a good title such as: My MacBook Pro cannot connect to my WEP-enabled PC.
Provide any hardware information that may be relevant such as the make and model of your router and method of connection - wired or wireless.
I'm no authority, but have you tried using WPA2/Personal on your PCs? This method is most compatible with Macs.
If the WEP password is a hexadecimal password then on the Mac you need to preceed the number with a $ sign or the hex digits, 0x.

  • P1005 Windows 7 can't print from remote PC

    Very strange issue.
Windows 7 computers. All HP compaqs. Printer P1005. Driver just downloaded (version 20090918).
No problem to print from the host PC
From the remote PC. Windows 7 Pro with 3 local account.  After lot of issues I'm now able to print on using the administrator account. However the 2 others accounts can't print.  Everytime the print dialog should come on the screen Windows 7 report an error and application crash (even printing a test page).   In an application if I default another shared printer (deskjet 5940), the print dialog come on, then I select the P1005 in the dropdown and got the error again.  Deskjet have no issue on all accounts.
To install on the admin account I did the following:
       - deinstall the P1005
       - decompressed the install app on the HD
      - Add a printer, select a local printer on USB, and manual selection of the drivers. printed without problem (with printer connected locally)
     - added a printer, selected the network one, added it and printed without issue (yes I switch back the printer to be on the shared one)
I tried the same tricks on the others accounts but still crashing when printing
I tried to upgrade the 2 others account to Admin role, no luck same issue.
I have exhausted. sounds this printer is not very compatible with Windows 7.
PS. my windows xP remote PC is able to print through the Windows 7 host without issue.

If it is not wireless it is USB connected.  So you need to choose USB connected and let the program do it's thing.   Are you trying to share the printer from the desktop to the laptop?  If yes, just go to Add Printer and follow the instruction.  Make sure File and Print Sharing is enabled on the desktop.

  • Windows XP can't print to MacMini OSX 10.4.9 Tiger shared HP printer

    Hello All,
I have a MacMini running OS X 10.4.9 with an HP Office Pro L7780 All-in-one installed via wireless. I can print from the Mini but I can not print from my Windows XP laptop. I do have sharing enabled, the printer is installed on the Windowx XP laptop, etc. everything looks fine.
When I try to print from the Windows laptop it thinks it's printer, but nothing happens on the actual printer. If I look at the print queue on the Mini I never see the print job in the 'active' window, but I do see the print job in the 'completed' window.
    Any ideas? I'm stumped.
Oh and I did try resetting the printing system, I deleted and added the printer on the Mini and Windows XP a few times, I rebooted both machines.
    -tjw

On the XP laptop, try using a generic PostScript driver instead of the L7780 Windows driver. If there is no generic option, try using the HP LJ5000PS.

  • How can I print from Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8?

I need to print information from my dropbox that is a .pdf format.  How can I print from ART for Windows8? I can't find the print icon nor does a right click give me the option to print.  I'm using a laptop, not a tablet. (And not loving Windows 8!)

Please see FAQ: Printing a PDF file in Windows 8.
If you are running Windows 8 on a laptop with an Intel-based processor, you can install Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI) alternatively.
Go to your Windows 8 desktop.
Go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/ in your browser.
Download and install Adobe Reader XI.
Launch Adobe Reader XI and open a PDF file.
Select File > Print from the menu.

  • New Windows laptop fails to print to Mac-shared printer

I prevoiusly had a shared HP DeskJet 5900 shared from my PowerBook G4 to a Toshiba Windows laptop via Bonjour. The printer was set up as a generic Postscript printer and printing worked fine.
I replaced the PowerBook with a MBP C2D and the Windows laptop with a Sony Vaio, and this same printing arrangement no longer works. Setting up the printer in Windows goes fine. The Bonjour printer setup assistant finds the shared printer just fine, and set-up appears to succeed, but printing from any Windows app fails with the error message, “Printing failed because an error occurred.”
    What am I doing wrong?

…On the VAIO, are you still creating the
printer as a Generic PS? I've seen problems when you
add the Windows driver for the printer instead of
setting it to PS (the Mac does the conversion so it
is recommended to leave it set this way).
Yes, it’s Standard/Generic Postscript, although I also tried setting it up with the appropriate printer-specific Windows driver with the same result.
It might be worth checking Console in the MBP to see
if there is a better explanation as to what is going
wrong. The cups error log may be helpful (providing
the spool file is getting to the MBP).
Good idea. Unfortunately nothing shows up on Console. I suspect the connection is failing entirely on the Windows end.
However, the connection does work on the file-sharing level. In a Windows Explorer window, I can successfully browse \\[Mac name]\ and see the printers as well as shared files

  • Can't print checks on HP 3310 (with Windows 7)

    Hi,
I'm using Quicken 2011 Home & Business on a Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop.  I downloaded the latest software from HP for my HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One printer.   The laptop and printer are connected via a wireless home network.  The HP software says the two machines are properly connnected, and I can print a test page.  I can also print from my word processing software.  But when I try to print a single check, I get an error from the printer, saying the paper is the wrong size or type.  But it isn't.
Quicken tech support tried a bunch of things to get the checks to print, but had no luck.  I was told the problem was with HP.
So, does anyone out there have any idea how to get the HP 3310 to print these checks?
I'd greatly appreciate any help you could provide.
    -- Steve

    Thanks HevnLgh,
Thanks for your time and efforts in answering my issue re viewing ink levels for HP 4215. I followed your suggestions in running the "HP Print and Scan Dortor for Windows."
I went through this utility and printed a "Test Page." But no ink levels on this page.
Alas, I did look at the pull down: Printer>Printer Services...
    also Printer>Ink Levels...
The Ink Levels page on the monitor does not have any ink level info. Below the notification that ink levels are approximate, it is blank. No pictorial at all. Just a large blank area.
Printer Services shows data concerning the printer, i.e. Version number, warranty info. But no levels.
Thank you again. I will check the box that my question was answered... basically, I have only limited fuctions for this printer.
I am resolved with the fact this is a rather old printer being used with a rather newer OS (Windows 7) and that I will just not be able to check ink levels.
Again, thank you for you help.
