Windows 7 SSD Install - SLOW with Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R

Hey guys,
I've been trying to reinstall Windows 7 onto this SSD for the past few hours. The bad thing about it, is that 1. When I try to reformat the drive via the installation disk (or even DiskPart), the format fails. I have to format the disk via Minitool Partition
Wizard. I believe that's irrelevant.
When trying to install Windows 7 with a GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard, I get to the expanding windows files portion and it's DEATHLY slow. For example, I let it sit there from 0% and it got to 14% within an hour. Mathematically speaking, that's a total of 6 and
a half hours for a Windows 7 install.
The SSD is plugged in with a typical SATA cable, but I just don't know what else to do at this point. I've disabled my floppy drive, entered the controller via AHCI mode. No avail.
Does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

It can be something related to hardware only, are all the devices compatible to each other ? BIOS updated?

  • Fusion SSD very slow with Mavericks

    Hi Everyone,
I have a Late 2012 Mac Mini with 2.3 quad core i7, 16g ram, 1TB of HDD and Samsung 840 250G SSD installed. I recently bought the samsung SSD in order to create my own Fusion drive but Since the expected release of Mavericks I decided to wait for it.
Soon as Mavericks was released I tried to create a DIY Fusion drive. I have done so with the help of OWC Fusion drive creation guide. and in theory managed to create it successfully.
The problem is that SSD start performing VERY SLOW!. Before the Fusion drive I had 250 Write and 500 Read, now I have between 40-50 Write and 120 Read.
Can anyone help me with this? I am pretty new in the mac world and not sure how to deal with it. I tried looking in forums (including this one) but could find solution.
    Thanks,

Did you ever figure this out?  I have a very similar issue going on right now that leaves me uncertain whether I am really getting strong speeds out of my SSD.

  • Windows 7 Install Issues with Mac Pro

I have Mac Pro with Windows XP SP3 installed with Boot Camp on a separate, dedicated 250GB HD.
I purchased an upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium. I hoped to install the 64-bit version. I upgraded, per Boot Camp I&S Guide, Boot Camp to version 3.1. After Boot Camp upgrade, I mounted the Windows 7 64-bit installation disk. Since the Windows disk did not open automatically, I then attempted to open the Setup.exe file but got the following error message –
“D:/setup.exe is not a valid Win 32 application.”
I suspect the Boot Camp 3.1 upgrade was for the 32-bit Windows XP system currently installed and this caused Windows 7 (64-bit) not to open.
If my suspicion is correct, would upgrading to Boot Camp 3.1 (64-bit) cause problems with the currently installed Windows XP? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have since attempted to boot from the Windows 7 install disk by using both the OS 10.6.3 System Preferences/Startup Disk and from within Windows XP using the Boot Camp Control Panel. In both cases, all I saw was a black screen with a “Select CD-ROM Boot Type” and flashing cursor. No keyboard input was possible.
If anyone encounters this problem, go to the Boot Camp/Installation and Storage discussion and search for “Select CD-ROM Boot Type”. Hal Jay Greene has an excellent article here titled “Select CD-ROM Boot Type Error installing Windows 7 in Boot Camp walkthrough” dated Mar 20, 2010 that walks one through the process of creating a boot disk for installing Windows 7 x64. Two minor comments on his discussion. John Anderson’s blog is at www.AndersonsHatch.com (note extra s) and Imgburn can be downloaded free from www.imgburn.com.
I used Mr. Greene’s procedure and the resultant boot disk loaded Windows 7 correctly.
Unfortunately, a new issue arose. Installing Windows 7 over Windows XP requires a clean install that eliminates all Boot Camp installations. After installing Windows 7, I attempted to load Boot Camp by inserting the Mac SL installation disk and clicking on Setup in the Boot Camp folder. The result was this error message: “Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model”. Fortunately, there is a procedure that worked for me, and my MacPro, to bypass this error message. It can be found near the bottom of this article http://blog.andersonshatch.com/2009/01/11/windows-7-x64-on-a-macbook-pro-guide/ on John Anderson’s blog.

  • Post Windows 7 Install Issues with T500

Windows 7 install went smoothly, but everything else thereafter is not working properly:
    - Updated BIOS per system update 4.0, the computer tries to reboot but is frozen with the Thinpad start up screen, fan going at full speed and all the little indicator lights for power, battery, caps lock, num lock, etc all lit up
    - Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard is powered up, but the "connection manager" app that existed before is no longer there (I believe it was called "find wireless networks / profiles" in the start menu)
    - The blue "ThinkVantage" button, when pressed, now does nothing
    Help please!!
    T500 / 4GB / T9600 processor

Now just got another notification from Windows: "Intel Active Management Technology (AMT, including IMEI and SOL) isn't working properly because it isn't compatible with this version of Windows" The other message: "Your wireless card isn't working properly because a compatible driver is not available for this version of Windows" ARGH!!

  • Can I install windows 8.1 from windows ssd hard drive with bootcamp?

I recently bought a 2009 macbook pro wiht Maverick 10.9.  I had a PC running W8.1 on a crucial ssd.  The ssd is working fine, it was the motherboard that was broken.  I was wondering if I could image a partition on the macbook with the image software crucial provided to install W8.
    Any input can help
    Thanks

Instead of trying to copy the Windows copy you have on the SSD to the internal hard drive, what I would do is to buy a USB to SATA hard drive and connect the SSD to the Mac through the USB port, and then start up your Mac from it if you need to use Windows 8.1. To do it, hold the Option (Alt) key while your Mac is starting up.
Apple does not support Windows 8 on the 2009 MacBook Pro, so you may have some problems with the trackpad and function keys

  • HP TM2 SSD install worked (with problem)

i have hp tm2 2150st and Corsair f120 SSD. i  install windows 7 a few times on it . Operating system installed and notebook worked. but when i start, my tm2's fan  worked  full speed and very noisy, and stop only when shutdown notebook, not even restart. When notebook works on this condition, i looked at device manager and see "intel management engine interface" problem. i install driver over and over but problem never changed. Also i use AIDA64 software for notebook condition and see motherboard temperature is 88 °C.
Then i install original 320 GB HDD and reinstal windows, it worked fine.
I read some TM2 owners post , who use ssd (with some problem cold boot etc.)  but didnt see any report like this. so what is my problem, hardware or only ssd incompability.
    P.S. :   I update BIOS,Chipset etc. drivers
LAST:  Today problem continue altough  my original HDD in notebook. so i'll send it to customer service.

  • Satellite X200 with Windowa 7 became slow with JAva 6 update 17

After installing Windows 7 on my Satellite X200 I made the upgrade of Java from update 10 to update 17. The computer became very slow when ther a Java window opened in IE8. I uninstalled update 17 and installed update 10 again at no avail. Please help!

I agree with you and will try to get an answer on a Java forum. I tried a recovery to an earlier date but the recovery failed, probably because I had already unninstalled the original java update 10. The same happened even after I reinstalled update 10 (which, by the way, is not shown on the list of programs of the Control Pane remove programs list.

  • Why we need a proper Windows 7 install DVD with our netbooks...

    Because of things like this:
-- Part 1 of email conversation with Microsoft Windows Update Support follows --
    Dear Scott,
Thank you for prompt reply.  I want to thank you for your time and kind cooperation on this case.
Based on the troubleshooting steps we have performed, it appears the issue is caused by some system corruption. At this point, I suggest we perform an In-place Upgrade to repair the system. I would like to tell you that the In-place Upgrade will not affect settings like photos, movies, documents, etc. that are saved on the computer.  However, it is recommended to first backup your important information and files to other partitions or other disks. Then please perform the following steps:
Step 1: Turn off Windows features before performing an In-place Upgrade
    =======================================================
    1. Click Start, and click Control Panel.
    2. Click Classic View on the left pane, and double click Program and Features.
    3. Click "Turn Windows features on or off on the left" pane.
    4. In the Windows Features dialog box, uncheck all of the check boxes, and then click OK.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    Step 2: Perform In-place Upgrade
    =========================
    1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
    2. Click Start and choose Computer.
    3. Please find the "setup.exe" file in the DVD-ROM and double click it.
    4. Click Install now.
    5. When we are prompted to input the product key, please click Next without inputting any key. The setup wizard will prompt and ask if you agree to install Windows 7 without the key. Please choose to confirm.
    6. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows 7.
Note: While performing the In-place Upgrade, the system will restart automatically (several times) to merge the files and programs. Please leave the computer alone and do not configure it until In-place Upgrade is completed. The system will start Windows 7 once it is upgraded.
When the In-place Upgrade finishes please restart the computer and run Windows Update again. If anything is unclear, please don't hesitate to let me know. I am glad to be of assistance.
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Best Regards,
    Judy xxxx

    Hi Judy,
    Thanks for your reply,
Unfortunately this hasn't totally solved the issue - now, although Windows Update 'completes', it reports that the following three updates have failed:
    KB980182
    KB980302
    KB978262
I also tried the instructions you gave in your previous email again, just in case that made any difference, but it did not.
Is there a way to get these updates to work?
    Thanks, in advance,
    Scott.

    Hi Judy,
    Thank you for your reply.
I think you may have slightly misunderstood the issue - it is not that the KB978262 does not download, nor is it that the update process completes and says that KB978262 hasn't been installed correctly.
KB978262 downloads OK, and it start installing, it just never completes installing and Windows Update just sits there, not getting any further (see screenshot in attached zip file).
Also, I had already tried everything you suggested, but tried them all again - it still fails to install.
I have, as requested, attached a zip file containing a screenshot, system info and windows update log.
    Thanks in advance,

    Dear Scott,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Windows Update Support. My name is Judy, and I am glad to work with you. For your reference, the case ID for this service request is <removed>. You can contact me directly by sending an email to @mssupport.microsoft.com with the case ID in the subject line.
From the case log, I understand that you can not obtain the update KB978262. If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.
I fully understand the inconvenience you have experienced. We will work together to resolve this issue through the course of the case.
This issue can be caused by one of the following factors:
    1. The Windows Update service has been stopped.
    2. Corrupted Windows Update Temporary folder.
In order to narrow down the cause of this issue and resolve it, please refer to the following steps. After finishing each step, please check the result again on the Windows Update website.
NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing Windows Update later. Please understand that we are disabling these programs only for the purpose of troubleshooting and we can re-enable these programs after we finish troubleshooting.
    Step 1: Clean boot
    ========================
This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:
    1. Click the "Start" Button, type "msconfig" in the search bar and press Enter.
Note: Please click the Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.
    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System"
    4. Test if we can update the system in Clean Boot.
Note 1: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later.
Note 2: We can check on Normal Startup in the General tab to roll back to Normal Mode after we get this issue resolved.
Step 2: Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder
    ================================================
    1. Click "Start", in "Start Search" item, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter.
    2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop CryptSvc
    ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.old
    ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution sold.old
    net start CryptSvc
    net start wuauserv
    3. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "rename.bat" as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the location.
    4. Refer to the Desktop and right click the rename.bat file, then choose "Run as administrator".
    5. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
Please test the issue again and let me know the result. If the issue persists, I will help you check the Internet Connection in our next communication. To clarify the issue and provide more accurate troubleshooting steps, please assist me in collecting the following information.
    How to capture a screenshot
    ======================
    1. Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
    2. Click the "Start" Button, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.
    3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste". Then click the "File" menu, and click "Save".
    4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot".
    5. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click "Desktop" on the left pane and then click "Save".
Please send this saved JPEG file to my email account at <removed>@mssupport.microsoft.com
How to collect the System Information
    =============================
The System Information can provide us with more information about the current status of the system. I would like to check it for you. Please send it to me using the following steps:
    1. Click the "Start" Button, type "MSINFO32" in the Search Bar and press Enter to start System Information.
    2. On the popup window, on the menu bar, click "File", and click "Save", type a file name and then choose NFO as "Save as type", click "Desktop" on the left pane, and click Save.
Please send it as an attachment to <removed>@mssupport.microsoft.com. If the file is too large to be sent, please right-click on the exported file, choose "Send To" -> "Compressed (zipped) Folder", and then send the zip file to <removed>@mssupport.microsoft.com for further research.
How to collect the WindowsUpdate.log file
    ================================
    1. Click the "Start" Button, type "WindowsUpdate.log" (without the quotes) in the Search Bar and Press Enter. We will see a file named "WindowsUpdate.log"
    2. Now click on the "File" menu and then click on the "Save As".
    3. From the left panel, click "Desktop" and click the Save button.
The file will be saved to your Desktop. Please send the file as an attachment in an email to <removed>@mssupport.microsoft.com.
Note: When attaching files to emails, the process will vary depending on the email application being used. While you are composing the email, most applications will provide you with either an "Attach" button or Paper Clip Icon to click in order to attach a file. After clicking this button/icon you must browse to the file you wish to attach and select it by either double clicking it or clicking it once and then clicking on the "Attach" button.
Please try my suggestion and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
I am standing by for your response.

  • Windows 7 install issue with Snow Leopard

    Hey Guys!
Just upgraded my Macbook Pro (Unibody Late 2008) to Snow Leopard and did all software updates.  I then partitioned the drive to install Windows.  When installing Windows it would only install if I reformatted the partition I wanted to install it on.  So I did that.  After hours of installing and udating Windows 7 I found that I did not have bootcamp on the bar at the bottom.  I tried to upgrade to BootCamp 3.1 but it says Bootcamp 3.0 is needed and not present.
How do I install Bootcamp 3.0 from Windows?
How do I get back to Mac OS?  I have been stuck (ugh!!!) in Windows since Friday...
I tried to download the pdf file to read about installing Windows 7 but Windows will not install Acrobat Reader  (I really hate windows), fought with it for 1 hour trying to install it.
anyways thanks in advance for the help
    KK

    Hey Guys
I eventually solved the Boot Camp Problem but then shortly after that had a different problem crop up.
It will not boot my Mac OS, it says the partition is corrupted.  Even if I boot from an install disk, it will not mount the Mac portion of the Hard drive.  Best info I can get on the issue is that part of my B Tree is too large?  Mac Repair utility will not fix it.
Suggestions?  Even if I cannot use the partition as a bootable drive I would like to get my data from that disk.  Unfortunately I do not seem to have a backup of the data on that drive.
    thanks

  • Windows 8 Install issues with Elements 6

Does anyone know if Photoshop Elements 6 is compatible with Windows 8.  Just got a new PC, and Windows 8 is confusing enough.  Now I am running into issues trying to install Elements 6.  It just hangs at the installation window

Windows 8 is not the officially supported version for Elements 6. I would suggest that you upgrade to Photoshop Elements 11, which is supported. Apart from all the amazing new features over so many versions, the new upgrade has been redesigned to make the process of editing and organizing photos much simpler.
    Thanks,

  • Save as dialog window display is slow with EVERY app

    Hello guys,
Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.2 I see a VERY annoying issue each time any application opens a "Save as..." dialog : the dialog takes about 5 seconds to load. I think I also hear something like a small beep during the time the Save window tries to open and most of the time I see the spinning wheel a few seconds before the Save as dialog is displayed.
Specs of my Mac are as follow :
    Macmini 6,2
    Intel Core i7
    2,3 GHz
    RAM: 16 Go
    Intel SSD
I don't have any network drives attached, only 3 USB drives.
This Save As bug is a HUGE issue for me, sorry but I can't wait 5 seconds every time I need to Save something.
Anyone here found a solution to this issue ??
    Cheers,

    Hi CW3X,
I think those settings are saved in Safari's property list file. Opening that file in either Property List Editor or TextEdit and scrolling through the entries highlights a cluster of "NSPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode" strings, which look like they may be relevant.
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
If you're not comfortable editing the file manually, you can try moving the .plist file to your Desktop and restarting Safari. Hopefully everything will return to normal.

  • Windows Explorer EXTREMELY slow at copying files from network, but robocopy works

    Hi guys,
I'm having a REALLY BAD performance issue when copying files over from SAMBA 4 to any Windows 7 computer. To copy a folder containing 50 files with a total of 10 MB using the explorer it takes about 20 minutes (!!) at a rate of 3-5 KB/s, but when using robocopy
the same folder takes like 3 seconds to complete. Also, the issue does not occur with older versions of Windows, like Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
Please please please come up with some ideas except the usuals like disabling Remote Differential Compression, disable autotuning using netsh, setting local security policies for NTML authentication or trying new switches / upgrading network drivers or windows.
I DID IT ALL, but nothing helped!
    Thanks in advance!

Linking in your post over on Server Fault in case it gets resolved over there first ;)

WIndows can't find a better one than the installed LSI Conformed 1394 Hostcontroller

Read and follow the Bootcamp Installation instructions that you were offered to view when you ran Bootcamp Assistant.
Run Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to download the Bootcamp Support software. Follow the instructions. Then boot into Windows and install the Windows Support software you downloaded and saved.

  • SSD Upgrade to Late 2008 MBP, Plus Windows 8 Install

    Hi guys,
I have a 15", late 2008 MBP that was a beast in it's time, but has started to show it's age, especially due to my aging hard drive.  I've read great things about performance improvement through installing an SSD, and so I want to perform this upgrade.  Also, while I do have my computer backed up through Time Machine, I'd rather just be proactive on replacing my hard drive before it fails on me (which will definitely happen at some point).  Here's some more detailed specs for my computer:
CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 4 GB of 1067 MHz DDR 3
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
Note about the GPU: This comp has the dual graphics chips, but I've been always using the "high-performance" one, which is what is listed above (the other one is a GeForce 9400M).
OS: Most current version of Mavericks (OSX 10.9.2)
In looking up SSD's, I've found that people that have had laptops with similar specs to mine have had success with the Crucial M500 SSDs.
After I get my drive all figured out, I want to use Boot Camp to install Windows 8 on the SSD.  Currently, I do not have any Windows installations on my computer.  My computer is not supported for Windows 8 installation through Boot Camp, despite the fact that hardware-wise, it is compatable with Windows 8.  However, I have found discussions that are pretty standard on how to get Windows 8 installed on my computer.
-So, my first question is: Was my research good for this given SSD for my computer?  It seems like Samsung makes the best SSDs, but I haven't found any evidence that it would be really compatable with my computer.
-My second question: Given that I will have just installed an SSD, will Windows 8 installation be doable?  This is probably the most important question for me, because if it's not possible, then I'd rather just buy Windows 7 right off the bat and install that in boot camp instead.
-My third question: If I can get Windows up and running, how does my computer's double graphics chip configuration work in Windows?  I'd want to make sure that Windows is using the more powerful of the chips and not the less powerful one.
-My fourth question: My computer has gone from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Mavericks, and I never performed a "clean install" for any of these OS upgrades.  If I clone my HD to the SSD, would it be beneficial for me to run a Mavericks clean install, and then pull all my necessary data off my backup drive?
Sorry for the long-winded post, and I know much of it is demonstrated elsewhere.  I have found many discussions involving SSD upgrades, and getting Windows 8 on a late 2008 MBP, but I haven't found anything that has shown both being done.  Both seem easy to do, but I just don't know if doing both in tandem is going to cause a bunch of problems.  Has anyone out there done this, and can anyone offer me any advice on how to make this process any smoother? I really like doing this upgrade now, because if I run into Windows issues, or other issues on the SSD, I could still just boot from my old hard drive and use my computer.  Thanks everyone!

    beestmode,
I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and I put a Samsung 840 PRO SSD into mine. Where did you find evidence that this model SSD would not work in your MacBook Pro? (The SSD which you’ve installed has a good reputation, so you should have no reason to regret your choice.)
Windows 8 via Boot Camp will not be possible with your model MacBook Pro. In Boot Camp, you could install up to Windows 7, either 32-bit or 64-bit. A virtualizer such as Parallels Desktop or VirtualBox could allow you to install Windows 8, but virtualizers have their own sets of positives and negatives.
Since I have a 13-inch model with only one GPU, I don’t know how your dual GPUs would be handled on the Windows side.
When I’d installed my SSD, I did a clean installation of Mavericks onto it, keeping Snow Leopard on my old internal disk, and putting it into an external enclosure.

Barcode1 I would recommend you install the Adobe Creative applications included with your membership to your Primary hard drive which contains your operating system.  For questions on how to optimize specific settings such as scratch disks I would recommend posting in the relevant point product forum.  You can find a list of available forums at https://forums.adobe.com/welcome.
